CN LEGO Store Calendar Reveals 90th Anniversary GWP, Forest Hideout (40567)

All year this 2022 LEGO’s celebrating 90 years as a company older than the plastic bricks that made them iconic. One key component of their milestone celebration is the throwback sets. These products harken back to the early days of the LEGO brick system but are no less fun. Some 90th anniversary LEGO sets are out now while others are either still coming or rumored. And not all these milestone products are full sets; there will be some 90-years GWPs also coming our way. This much we know thanks to info in a local LEGO branded store calendar from China.

Courtesy of Brickset, which found it on LEGO Facebook fan-page Candidbricks, we have this image of the 90th anniversary gift-with-purchase. Like the other milestone LEGO sets, this one calls back to an oldie theme. In 1988 LEGO released Forestmen’s Hideout (6054), a Robin Hood-esque tree-house hideaway. This 90th anniversary revamp is called the Forest Hideout (40567), comprised of 258 pieces. It’s a fantastic callback to the Forestmen sub-line of the LEGO Castle theme. The Chinese LEGO Store Calendar announces the set’s GWP period as June 15-30. That’s for China of course, so we’re waiting for the rest of the world.

New LEGO Star War Sets Now Listed for Preorder; Coming August 1

Star Wars Celebration 2022 lasts for much longer than just the observance of May the 4th. On the LEGO front, that means more LEGO Star Wars sets for fans to collect through the year. In fact, no less than two sets were revealed over the past weekend, celebrating the wider “Star Wars” franchise. One item ties into the 2019-2021 EA multiplatform title “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.” The other set is for the upcoming Disney+ series “Andor”, spinning off from 2016’s “Rogue One”.  The Brick Fan tells us that both LEGO Star Wars sets are now up for preorder. They’ll finally become available in August.

LEGO Creator Expert Becomes LEGO Icons in June – Packaging Rebrand Starts 2023

One significant development in the naming of LEGO themes happened back in the year 2020. That was when the brand officially retired the “Creator Expert” offshoot of LEGO Creator. The company reasoned that the naming potentially scared off potential LEGO newbies. As part of the reorganization LEGO began using the Age 18+ classification for sets formerly under Creator Expert designation. You might notice though that we still tended to mention the name in our reports. The LEGO.com Shop continued using Creator Expert in their online listings after all. But starting next month, Creator Expert will finally have a new moniker – enter LEGO Icons.

According to Brick Fanatics, the former LEGO Creator Expert line will now become LEGO Icons effective June 1. The new designation will also blanket encompass specific set subthemes that originally popped up under Creator Expert. If you recall the Botanical Collection and Modular Buildings that LEGO.com lists as Creator Expert sets, they’ll become Icons sets. That upcoming LEGO Optimus Prime (10302) will thus be known as a LEGO Icons set upon launch. Icons itself will slot under the wider “LEGO for Adults” classification of 18+ sets introduced in 2021.

LEGO’s statement on the reveal of the Icons theme is to help “adult consumers”. They note that 18+ builders tend to go for sets that either reflect their interests/passions or be deeply immersive. That being said, apparently upcoming sets will not carry the mark in product packaging until next year. We at The Brick Show might bet that the next LEGO modular-building set in 2023 will debut the Icons mark. For the moment, let’s appreciate the nifty branding as featured in the banner image at top.

LEGO Ideas Contest “Ready, Set, Go STEM!” Crowd Vote Begins for GWP Shot

It’s a given that custom creations on LEGO Ideas have a long way to go towards official set-dom. Gaining supporters is one thing while impressing pro LEGO Ideas reviewers is quite another. On average, less than a handful of product ideas will emerge approved per Review Stage. Fortunately, Ideas provides alternative venues for its members to see their builds become LEGO products. Sometimes they open Contests for submissions to get fast-tracked towards approval. Just last month for instance, LEGO Ideas launched a Contest for STEM-themed submissions. Following a review period in the middle of this month, the vote’s finally ready.

Brick Fanatics tells us that LEGO Ideas Contest “Ready, Set, Go STEM!” opened its Crowd Vote on Thursday, May 26. No less than 15 entries are in the running to become an official LEGO gift-with-purchase set. And of course, the Grand Winner and runners-up will receive some cool and recent LEGO sets from various themes. Check out STEM-themed submissions, some with animated images too:

LEGO Technic 42143 Not Delayed After All; Ferrari Daytona SP3 Rolling June 1

Speculation might runs rampant when LEGO teases new sets and then delays them before revealing more information. The latest LEGO Technic supercar set seems to follow this pattern. The biennially-released product was supposed to release this year. It even got a set number – 42143 – and launch date of August 2022. Then word came out that the set could be delayed until 2023. This triggered discussion on what vehicle the Technic set would depict, with the wildest theories like the Tesla Cybertruck. Fortunately LEGO made an announcement this week about Technic 42143: it’s coming next month!

Legoceo’s Auto Repair Garage 1930s Gets 10K Support for Ideas Second 2022 Review

We’ve got another LEGO Ideas 10-K support update to give now. This makes it the fourth such submission to enter the Second 2022 Review Stage. Subject-wise, two of the previous three entries for this stage are structural in nature. Both of these are also based on licensed IPs that LEGO’s made sets of in the past. The latest 10-K product idea for the Second 2022 Review Stage is an original concept. It’s also nostalgic trip to the past of sorts. And while not minifigure-scale like the earlier submissions, it’s got a larger, more detailed charm.

ideas legoceo garage1930s 1

So it goes for Auto Repair Garage 1930s, as designed by LEGO Ideas member legoceo. The build is a quaint garage with the inter-World War design aesthetic. The construction appears convincingly brick-and-mortar, with even aging effects like creeping vines.

ideas legoceo garage1930s 4

The outside boasts various car components and two self-service gasoline pumps. Inside is a nicely-cluttered workspace with period tools and appliances to sell the 1930s look.

ideas legoceo garage1930s 2

ideas legoceo garage1930s 3

But it’s not a garage without a car, so legoceo took care of that too. The blue car is similar to a ‘Thirties Chevy, especially with the spare tire next to the driver-seat door. Overall the set looks fantastic even with no minifigs in sight.

ideas legoceo garage1930s 5

Even so, having no people in the set will give Auto Repair Garage 1930s a challenge to engage reviewers. It’ll have to be an Age 18+ LEGO Ideas set if successful. We’ll just have to see how it fares among Second 2022 by next year.

“LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” Update Includes 4 Additional Capital Ships

Never has a LEGO videogame been so highly anticipated as “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga”. This massive multiplatform title from WB Interactive and TT Games was a victim of timing. First revealed in 2019, it was subject to delays throughout the worst of the global pandemic. In fact, “Skywalker Saga” only finally released last month. Even then, the game was beset by bugs, some of which actually held up story progression. Thankfully, TT Games has been busy working on patches to these. The latest “Skywalker Saga” update will not only have fixes; it’ll add some cool “rides” as well.

Brick Fanatics tells us that the latest update for “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” also includes new capital ships. After all, it’s not “Star Wars” without the sleek vessels that various factions in the Galaxy used for battle. Four named starships are now added to the selection of LEGO Star Wars brick-built fleets with this fix. According to their tech notes, “Skywalker Saga” players will soon get to play with the Venator and Invisible Hand (prequel trilogy). Then there’s Home One (original trilogy) and the Fulminatrix (sequel trilogy) too.

As for the bugs the above update is primarily tasked to fix, they’re story-trigger issues in Episodes 3 and 7. It also resolves a camera error for one free-play mission. The fact that TT Games added content for “The Skywalker Saga” in a bug-fix update can potentially mean more additions. This is in spite of the May 4 DLC batches being touted as the last ones for the game. It’s something to look forward to even if not guaranteed. “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” already holds the best-selling LEGO videogame title since release. It also got many positive reviews.

LEGO Con 2022 Set for June 18; Official Page Up; Free Building Instructions for VIP Rewards

One of the biggest tools of companies, from manufacturers to media production, is the convention or con. What better way to entertain and inform customers and the public of their latest developments than a flashy media extravaganza? While they’re a tad late out the gate, LEGO’s also a part of the con bandwagon now. Their inaugural LEGO Con kicked off back in 2021 during the pandemic to notable success. It stands to reason that it’ll be a regular fixture for the standard LEGO year. In fact, LEGO.com now has a LEGO Con 2022 page up. But there’s more to it.

According to The Brick Fan, the LEGO Rewards Center for has some LEGO Con goodies for VIP members. They come in the form of building instructions for simple brick-builds themed after the LEGO Con event. LEGO VIPs can choose between downloading one-page instructions or page-by-page presentations for these easy-build items. Thus far, three builds are featured: an “ultimate device stand”, “brick box” and “couch caddy”. Young builders should have no problem putting these together according to instructions. All they need are the right bricks on the sheets. These activities would serve as a nice buildup for LEGO Con 2022 itself.

LEGO Con this year will be happening next month, on June 18. It will go on live from LEGO House in Billund and be accessible via live-stream on YouTube. Featured events include a LEGO Masters live show and a WB Studio London tour. But the real nitty-gritty will be the LEGO-related reveals. From videogames to upcoming sets to a heavily-hyped new partnership, LEGO Con’s shaping up to be sheer awesome. Check out the LEGO.com page for more details and a LEGO Con 2021 reveal review.

LEGO Ideas “Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night” (2133) Revealed, Coming June

“The Starry Night” by Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh is one of the most famous late-19th Century paintings. This artwork catches the eye with whimsically swirling sky patterns and brightly glowing moon and stars. But those same patterns have been interpreted as visualizations of Van Gogh’s lifelong inner turmoil. As a masterpiece painting, “The Starry Night” has featured in pop culture. Don McLean sang about it in his 1971 song “Vincent”. A 2010 “Doctor Who” episode on BBC featured the artist in monologue while imagining the night sky like his painting. And now LEGO’s getting its own interpretation of it.

After months of collectors knowing it was coming, LEGO has officially listed Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night (21333). This brick-built rendition of the named painting arose from a LEGO Ideas submission by Truman “legotruman” Cheng. “The Starry Night” bursts out of the frame via LEGO-brick relief. At the foot of the frame is a Van Gogh minifigure at his easel with a mini-version of the scene. This is sure to be a sought-after LEGO Ideas product as soon as it launches next month according to Brickset. Now let’s check out some more product info:

New LEGO 90th Anniversary Space Set Arriving Soon

For your friendly reminder, this year is the 90th anniversary of LEGO. That plucky Danish toy company turned global brand giant’s been a good part of the lives of children and collectors. And in celebration, LEGO’s been hyping up revivals of classic sets given fresh new design revamps. Cases in point: LEGO Classic 90 Years of Play (11021) and the upcoming Lion King’s Castle (10305). Of course, those aforementioned sets are just the beginning. In fact, there’s a rumor about a possible 90th-anniversary set in the vein of the classic Castle theme. That means a classic LEGO theme throwback is arriving soon as the LEGO 90th Anniversary Space set.

Brick Fanatics has it that a new LEGO set number’s been floating around for the Creator Expert or Icons line. According to the rumor, it’ll be a space-themed set that remakes a classic entry of that LEGO theme. The LEGO 90th Anniversary Space set number 10497 will allegedly bring a new version of the Galaxy Explorer from 1979. This classic set features a space shuttle, planetary outpost, and rover, plus astronaut minifigs. You can see from the image how bare-bones the vehicle details were back in the day. It also means that if the rumor is true, a Creator Expert or Icons treatment of the set will look extremely fine.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This is a rumor, and until LEGO makes an official reveal, we must treat it as such. There is, after all, the matter of the 90th anniversary LEGO Castle (10305). Castle and Space were among the chosen themes voted for an anniversary set in 2022. The Castle (10305) was announced first, so one can assume it won. But maybe LEGO decided to give us more. You may be tired of hearing this by now, but it’s a matter of waiting once again.
