May 2020 LEGO Store Calendar Highlights and More

May the 4th is just around the corner, as highlighted by LEGO’s May 2020 LEGO Store Calendar. And in keeping up with this year’s busiest week for LEGO Star Wars fans, LEGO is now doing its share of promotions and offerings from the galaxy far, far away.

Now just a word of caution – I am not encouraging all of you to go out there for a frenzied shopping spree to get the latest Star Wars merch. Since LEGO and other establishments have complied with the government’s marching orders to stay at home then, by all means, let’s continue to do so. So until such time that we ease up on our quarantine guidelines, LEGO has made it clear that it will keep its 150+ stores around the world temporarily closed until further notice.

But of course, we don’t necessarily need to remove the fun from this otherwise festive occasion. LEGO Shop@Home is still up and running and we can still enjoy the many LEGO freebies that LEGO has to offer. With that out of the way, let’s check out the details of next month’s LEGO promotional and freebies. You may also download a PDF version of the May 2020 LEGO Store Calendar via LEGO.com.

Free Limited-Edition LEGO Star Death Star II Battle (40407) Set

May 1 to 4, 2020

40407

The LEGO May the 4th gift-with-purchase (GWP) set has been revealed last week, and it pays homage to that trench run scene aboard the Empire’s Death Star II straight from Episode 6 Return of the Jedi. This LEGO Star Wars GWP set will only be available from May 1 to 4 or until supplies last. This micro build will be added to your cart automatically once your LSW purchases reach $75 or more, so I hope you don’t miss out on this one.

May 2020 LEGO Store Calendar

Free LEGO Mother’s Day Card (5005878)

May 4 to 10, 2020

May 2020 LEGO Store Calendar

LEGO is one with the world in celebrating this year’s Mother’s Day. And of course, you can always express your love to all the super moms out there with this lovely buildable token. This offer will be available from May 4 to 10 and will be added to your cart once your LEGO purchase reaches $40 and above.

Free LEGO City Beach Buggy (30369)

 May 18 to 31, 2020

30369 1

If you plan your purchases carefully for May, then chances are, you can still get this nice LEGO City polybag for free. For the same minimum single-receipt purchase of $40 and above of any LEGO set or merchandise, this beach combing mini build will be included in your cart upon checkout. I’ve always been a fan of polybags especially those from the LEGO City theme, so this one will be a nice part of any collection.

Though the first week of May is predominantly for LSW fans, you’ll be glad to know that some of the LEGO Minions sets are now available including other film-inspired sets such as the LEGO DC Superheroes Wonder Woman vs Cheetah (76157) and the LEGO Technic Dom’s Dodge Charger (42111). For CMF collectors, the LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 20 (71027) is also available as well.

And while we’re waiting for this pandemic to be somewhat under control, LEGO has launched its #LetsBuildTogether campaign to help LEGO fans and families have a better home experience during these trying times. For more info, you may visit LEGO.com/LetsBuildTogether. You may also want to check out Tyler’s series of video tutorials called Quarantine Creations for more inspiring builds.

Keep safe and happy building!

LEGO Star Wars Death Star II Battle (40407) GWP Set Officially Revealed

LEGO servers have been updated to include official images of this year’s LEGO May the 4th promotional, gift-with-purchase (GWP) set. Earlier this week, it was revealed that LEGO will be throwing in a limited edition freebie in the form of the LEGO Star Wars Death Star II Battle (40407) as this year’s exclusive GWP set for LSW fans who will make their next LEGO Star Wars purchase on this grand sale day.

LEGO Star Wars Death Star Battle II (40407)

Valued at $14.99, the LEGO Star Wars Death Star II Battle (40407) comes in a similar diorama format like that from last year’s LEGO Star Wars Battle of Endor 20th Anniversary Edition (40362) set. Coming in at 235 pieces, this display piece takes its cue from Episode VI Return of the Jedi during the final encounter against the Imperial forces on board the incomplete Death Star II. The micro-build/diorama features a sort of a trench run between a Rebel A-Wing ship and a dreaded TIE Interceptor. The set will also come with its own exclusive 2×4 printed tile.

40407 alt1 40407 alt2

There is no particular mention of a price point required to obtain this set, but we can surmise that it will be probably the same as that of last year’s $75 qualifying purchase. Other than this freebie, LEGO is also bringing back its Double VIP points during this period, plus super sweet discounts on LEGO Star Wars sets and items. And if you’re eyeing for this year’s UCS set, then May the 4th is the best time to get the LEGO Star Wars UCS A-Wing Starfighter (75275) which will retail for $199.99.

So what do you think about this year’s LEGO Star Wars May the 4th gift-with-purchase set? Do you think it’s a great choice to celebrate the occasion? Do you have other famous and iconic Star Wars scenes that you want to be given the official LEGO treatment? Share us what you think in the comments below, and remember to always be safe.

LEGO Star Wars Mini Droid Commander (75522) Now Back As An Exclusive VIP Reward

If you recall from September last year, LEGO released the LEGO Star Wars Mini Droid Commander (75522) as an exclusive gift-with-purchase (GWP) set for those who will be getting its much larger (and motorized) cousin, the LEGO Star Wars Boost Droid Commander (75253). Though LEGO was kind enough to publish the building instructions for this promotional item, this GWP had a relatively short life span, offered only between September 9-15, 2019.

In case you missed out on this promotional, you’ll be glad to know that it is made available again as a redeemable reward at the LEGO VIP Rewards Center.

Mini Droid Commander (75522)

Unlike the first time it was offered, you can now get this directly without making any particular purchases. Just be sure that you have enough VIP points (1,350 points) to redeem this exclusive. There is no particular promo period mentioned at the Rewards Center, but just be sure to get it quickly since these kinds of offers tend to run out pretty quickly.

LEGO Star Wars Mini Droid Commander

The LEGO Star Wars Mini Droid Commander comes in at 62 pieces and features a micr0scaled version of a Gonk and Mouse Droid, plus an R2-D2 minifigure. It is further accentuated by a commemorative LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary 2×4 plate found only in two other promotional sets: the LEGO Star Wars Battle of Hoth (40333) and Battle of Endor (40362) 20th Anniversary sets. On the other hand, the LEGO Star Wars Boost Droid Commander (75253) is available at LEGO Shop@Home. It comes in at 1,177 pieces and retails for $199.99.

LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2020 Promotions Revealed

Following the announcement of this year’s LEGO Star Wars UCS set in the form of the LEGO Star Wars A-Wing Starfighter (75275), LEGO has now revealed its LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2020 promotions.

Similar to previous years, the month of May will see a lot of tempting offers coming from the LEGO Star Wars theme which will include the usual LEGO Double VIP points and great discounts across LEGO Star Wars sets. However, given the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is highly likely that most LEGO fans around the world will opt for the LEGO Shop@Home experience.

LEGO Star Wars May the 4th
The LEGO Star Wars A-Wing Starfighter (75275) is this year’s UCS set slated to be released in time for the May the 4th celebrations.

One highlight of the LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promotions is the inclusion of its exclusive gift-with-purchase (GWP) set. And according to insider info from Brick Fanatics, this year’s exclusive GWP will be the LEGO Star Wars Death Star II Battle (40407). Though we don’t have official images of this set as of posting, it is expected that this limited-edition set will feature a similar diorama format like that from last year’s LEGO Star Wars Battle of Endor 20th Anniversary Edition (40362) set. If you recall, this brick diorama was LEGO’s exclusive promotional freebie last year as part of its Triple Force Friday offers.

40362 3
The LEGO Star Wars Battle of Endor 20th Anniversary Edition (40362) set was last year’s exclusive Triple Force Friday promotional set. How do you think this year’s limited-edition LEGO Star Wars gift-with-purchase set will look like?

This year’s LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2020 freebie will be added to your LEGO shopping cart once your LEGO Star Wars purchases reach $75 and above, same as that of previous offerings. Given the required price point for the LEGO Star Wars Death Star II Battle (40407), it is assumed that this set may also consist of around 170 to 200 pieces. Hopefully, we’ll have more info about this next promotional set once the May 2020 LEGO Store Calendar is published. For now, be sure to check this month’s latest LEGO Star Wars releases including the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Series, and the new LEGO Star Wars D-O (75278). Sets inspired by the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian are also available for pre-order: the LEGO BrickHeadz The Mandalorian & the Child (75317) and the LEGO Star Wars The Razor Crest (75292).

LEGO Star Wars May the 4th
The LEGO Star Wars The Razor Crest (75292) is now available for pre-order at LEGO Shop@Home

I wish that LEGO will also bring back some of its exclusive LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promotional minifigures that come with a lower price requirement. We just have to wait and see. Be sure to stick around here at our blogsite for more updates.

LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise (30385) Polybag Revealed

After the reveal of the first wave of LEGO Super Mario Expansion sets and the particular introduction of the theme’s first gift-with-purchase (GWP) set in the form of the Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) freebie, the Nintendo-inspired LEGO theme will also have its first polybag offering. The LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise (30385) polybag is a free item that will be thrown into your cart once you pre-order the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course (71360) via third-party retailers particularly Zavvi.

LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise

Due to an overwhelming response from the LEGO fandom, the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course is now sold out at LEGO Shop@Home. However, if you wish to be one of the first to have their try on this first LEGO Super Mario set, then you may be glad to know that Zavvi has this set currently on sale over at their site. The caveat though is that it seems that both GWPs, set 40414 and the polybag 30385, are different freebies that LEGO opted to offer depending on where you will make your purchase of the Starter Course. The better deal, of course, is what LEGO Shop@Home offers. And since the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course is now sold out from LEGO’s official online shopping portal, those who missed out on that window of opportunity last week when LEGO launched its pre-order, have to settle for what 3rd party retailers have to offer.

30385 1

Brickfinder also noted the same with LEGO Certified Stores in Singapore when the Super Mushroom Surprise (30385) polybag was advertised as its promotional freebie for the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course. Now I completely understand that it’s just a marketing decision for LEGO to offer a better promotional deal over at their turf, but from a LEGO fan’s perspective, especially if I missed that opportunity and has to settle only for a less attractive deal, then it really sucks. Just to be clear, I’m not against the idea of a polybag promo – LEGO in fact released polybags that even contained exclusive minifigs such as, for example, the LEGO Batman Classic TV Series – Mr. Freeze (30603) polybag from 2016. But again from a fan’s perspective, having two different freebies for one particular set offering, depending on where you will purchase it, sounds a bit odd and disadvantageous for a customer.

There’s no word on when the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course with its free Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) set will be available again at LEGO Shop@Home. But for now, if you want to be assured of your LEGO Super Mario Starter Course when it is released in August, then you may want to check with Zavvi with its free LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise (30385), for that matter.

LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) Set Images Released

The first set among many from the LEGO Super Mario theme has been revealed already, and with it comes a nice pre-order freebie. LEGO Shop@Home has been updated to include the LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) expansion set as a pre-order gift for those who managed to bag the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course (71360) base set.

LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom

This free expansion set comes in at 163 pieces and has a retail value of $14.99. It features a brick version of a Super Mushroom (or Power Mushroom), a Stone Eye from the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and the cunning Monty Mole. A closer look at some of the pieces of this expansion set reveals several sensor tiles where the LEGO Super Mario figure can interact with. As previously revealed, the said figure is equipped with several sensors that will interact with certain set elements or pieces coming from future expansion sets. The LEGO Super Mario figure is also equipped with LCD screens and speakers for that leveled-up play feature and building experience. LEGO also intends this theme to be modular, so builders and hobbyists can re-arrange all these sets in many different ways possible.

It’s not yet sure when this pre-order bonus will go live once again since the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course is now immediately out of stock. Though LEGO specifically states this promotional item will be made available until July 31, it’s yet to be seen when it will be offered once again. As a side note, you might be interested to know that Walmart also carries the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course and is still currently available. However, the better deal is still with LEGO Shop@Home since it has the LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) expansion as a gift-with-purchase item.

You may want to click on the following link below if you wish to add the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course to your LEGO wishlist and be notified if this set is available once again. Thanks to The Brick Fan for the heads up.

April 2020 LEGO Store Calendar Now Available

Allow me to begin by saying that next month’s LEGO Brand Store Calendar is noticeably underwhelming – and for a very good reason. Considering the global pandemic caused by the notorious COVID-19, all LEGO brand stores are effectively closed until the first half of April. However, that does not deter LEGO from making our Spring Break a bit more fun, even at home. You may still want to check out the April 2020 LEGO Store Calendar and what freebies are in store together with your next LEGO purchase. You may download a PDF copy, or view the gallery below.

As you may notice, the April 2020 LEGO Store Calendar is pretty much bare, with LEGO only giving emphasis on the freebies that it will offer via LEGO Shop@Home. In fact, two of these have been offered already since last week, with one promotional item to expect during the first half of April. I am still optimistic though that the LEGO store closures that we are experiencing will not last long beyond April, and I hope that normal store operations, and our lives in general, will soon be back on track.

At the most, we can be excited about the upcoming LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay (21322) which will be most likely released via LEGO’s online shopping portal. Anyways, here are some of the LEGO freebies in store for us next month via LEGO Shop@Home or LEGO catalog phone orders.

Free Exclusive LEGO Easter Egg (40371)

40371 1

For single-receipt purchases of any LEGO products worth $50 or more from March 23 to April 13 will entitle you to a free LEGO Easter Egg (40371). This gift-with-purchase set comes in at 239 pieces and features a chick mini build inside a decorative brick-built egg casing.

Free LEGO Easter Bunny (30550)

30550 1

Similar to the LEGO Easter Egg, the LEGO Easter Bunny (30550) will also be offered during the same time period of March 23-April 13 but on a lower qualifying purchase. For every single-receipt LEGO purchase (online or via phone) worth $30 and more will allow you to bring home this hopping mini build as well. It somehow comes close to what LEGO stores offer with their Monthly Mini Builds (MMB).

Free LEGO Trolls Poppy’s Carriage (30555)

April LEGO Store Calendar

This final freebie for the month of April features a polybag promotional for the LEGO Trolls World Tour theme. For every single-receipt purchase of any LEGO Trolls set worth $35 and above will qualify you for a free LEGO Trolls Poppy’s Carriage (30555) polybag. Though the LEGO Trolls sets have been out since January, it is still nice that LEGO managed to throw in an incentive for LEGO fans who will opt to buy these new sets. Though some parts of the world manage to show the movie, the US is yet to schedule a film release tentatively slated for April 10.

As I mentioned earlier, all LEGO brand stores are closed until April 12 which practically suspends all in-store activities such as Make and Take events, minifigure swaps, and other socially engaging activities. Its a drag really, but it’s for the best of all in the long run.

Keep safe brick fans and keep on building!

Here’s A Chance to Win an Exclusive LEGO Star Wars Maz Kanata Minifigure

This collectible LEGO Star Wars Maz Kanata minifigure also comes in a UV acrylic case and is subsequently awarded by UK Graders (UKG) with the highest Gold Level grading.  Here’s a brief description of it from the LEGO Rewards Center.

Building Instructions for the LEGO Easter Egg (40371) Now Available

The LEGO Trains 40th Anniversary gift-with-purchase promo is still up, and while we’re still far from this month’s next LEGO Store promotional freebie, LEGO is kind enough to release the building instructions for the LEGO Easter Egg (40371) ahead of its release later this March 23.

LEGO Easter Egg (40371)

If you recall, this limited edition LEGO Easter Egg (40371) is our next gift-with-purchase set slated to be offered from March 23 until April 13 as featured in the March 2020 LEGO Store Calendar. Coming in at 239 pieces, this set features a customizable egg that houses a small, brick-built chick. What is great about this freebie is that it comes with plenty of small, decorative pieces that are usually found in the new LEGO DOTS sets. Additionally, it features a modular design that allows you to have a small storage compartment to house these pieces and another for the brick-built chick. This new LEGO Easter Egg will be added to your cart (both in-store and online at LEGO Shop@Home) if your next LEGO purchase reaches a $50 and above price point during the abovementioned promo period.

While waiting for this set, you may want to give it a try and see if you can build your own LEGO Easter Egg since the set’s building instructions are now available online via LEGO’s customer service. Since it is a highly customizable set, I expect this to have plenty of room to allow you to personalize this set with your own choice of color scheme and design. You may get the building instructions in PDF format right here. Check out the parts list below and see if you have these in your own LEGO collection. I don’t see any rare parts included in them so you can easily swap these with ones with any colors that you have.

LEGO Easter Egg (40371)

Be sure to check back with your local LEGO store starting this last week of March for this limited edition freebie.

LEGO Trains 40th Anniversary (40370) Gift-With-Purchase Set Now Available

The first LEGO Store promotional for the month of March is already out, and this is something that most of us are looking forward to. LEGO Shop@Home has been updated to now include the commemorative LEGO Trains 40th Anniversary (40370) gift-with-purchase (GWP) set, and will also be available to fans who will opt to make their next LEGO purchases in-store.

LEGO Trains 40th Anniversary (40370)

The LEGO Trains 40th Anniversary (40370) set comes in at 188 pieces including a minifigure train attendant. It is a sort of a throwback to 1980’s LEGO Push-Along Steam Engine (7810) that marked the beginning of other popular LEGO Train sets. As an exclusive commemorative set, it is a near-perfect replica of set 7810, with an exact copy of its minifigure.

7810 1
The LEGO Push-Along Steam Engine (7810) from 1980 that served as the inspiration for LEGO’s most recent promotional set.

With a retail value of $19.99, the LEGO Trains 40th Anniversary (40370) set will be added to your shopping cart for free once your LEGO purchase reaches a qualifying, single-receipt purchase of $99 and above. This promo will run from March 1st until the 15th or until supplies last and is expected to be popular among adult fans who grew up with LEGO.

LEGO’s Customer Service also uploaded the building instructions for this commemorative train set in case you want to give it a try in building your own using LEGO parts that you may already have. Check out this parts list and see if you have these lying around in your collection.

Remember that this promo will only run from March 1 to 15, or until supplies are ample enough so be sure to bag this one as soon as you can.
