LEGO Ideas Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Contest Announces Winners

Way back in September, LEGO Ideas held one of its biggest contests yet .It was a LEGO Harry Potter competition in celebration of the line’s 20th anniversary.  Participants were invited to create a commemorative “Harry Potter” build with the number “20” located/hidden in their work. This contest saw plenty of submissions, but there can be only one winner and a couple of runners-up. While the entry phase ended in October 6, judging still took up the better part of a month. But finally, the LEGO Ideas staff has made their decision. We’re sure you probably agree with their choices too.

As revealed on their contest winner announcement, the grand prize went to LEGO Ideas 10-K member Ivan “bulldoozer” Guerrero. The creative mind behind LEGO Ideas Sesame Street (21324) created “Legacy,” depicting Harry before the Mirror of Erised. For your perusal:

The runners-up presented a common theme for many entries on this LEGO Ideas contest: Hogwarts Castle. Gitto-Negron Workshop gave a creative twist to the motif in their “HP20 – Magical Cabinet of Characters” as seen below:

PedroPRS.AFOL meanwhile submitted a straight castle micro-scale build with a number-20 flag on the steeple. He calls his creation “Hogwarts is My Home,” like so:

Buldoozer got to receive the most recent LEGO Harry Potter 20th anniversary sets as Grand Prize. Gitto-Negron Workshop and PedroPRS.AFOL for their parts won Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) and some Limited Edition Minifigures (6232944).

LEGO Ideas Spruces Up Unity Ninjago Microgame Contest Prizes by Adding Actual Ninjago Sets

LEGO Ideas and Unity launched their “Ninjago Microgame 1-Button Challenge” on the Ideas Contest page last September 29. Their challenge for Ideas members interested in programing was to develop a Ninjago-themed microgame using the Unity game engine. The “ideas intake” period for the contest runs until November 4 but no members have submitted any ideas yet. Aside from the more technical nature of this Ideas contest, apparently some Ideas members felt the prizes were lacking. For one thing, despite the variety of LEGO sets to be won, none of them are LEGO Ninjago. Fortunately, LEGO Ideas got the message too.

According to Brick Fanatics, LEGO Ideas announced that they have updated the prizes for the Ninjago Unity microgame contest. While the official contest page details remain the same, they showed off the changes on social media. The additional prizes follow thus: Grand Winner for each category also gets LEGO Ninjago City Gardens (71741). The runners-up gut will also receive LEGO Ninjago Fire Stone Mech (71720). Add the existing prizes of LEGO NES (71374), Mario Starter Course (71360) and LEGO Minecraft Abandoned Mine (21166) and they’re better. Unity of course has their own prizes: Asset Store credits and a 1-year Pro subscription for the Grand Winners.

Seeing as not all potential contestants might theme their microgame after Ninjago, that’s only one category. LEGO Ideas will also accept original creations and microgames for Unity’s Behavior Bricks template. It would be nice to finally see the entries begin coming in soon. They have until November 4 to submit.

Newest LEGO Ideas Contest Can Get You Two Fender Stratocasters: the Set (21329) and the Real Deal!

As a LEGO Ideas contest ends, so a new one begins. After the LEGO Harry Potter 20th Anniversary contest concludes, another based on a new Ideas set release is on. Surely you’re still basking in the glory of the Fender Stratocaster (21329), music lover or otherwise. That Ideas set could be yours, along with an Ideas Grand Piano (21323) and (GASP!) a real Stratocaster. Got your attention now? Then read on with our little feature for details then check out the contest page for specifics.

“Strike a Chord with the Fender Stratocaster!” So goes the latest LEGO Ideas contest title. How do you do that? The Ideas crew wants you to depict music-related imagery featuring the legendary guitar. Was the Stratocaster featured on the cover of your favorite album? Recreate it in LEGO. Remember a musical performance where the band members carried it? Build it brick by brick with minifigures. Indeed, this is another contest where Ideas members participating can use third-party IPs. But just make sure those said IPs are allowed by LEGO. Thankfully LEGO Ideas has an IP verification tool on their site, usable when submitting product ideas. They do give you full blessing for using the Beatles.

IP complexities aside, participants who are also music enthusiasts will find this contest worth it. To reiterate the prizes for the grand winner, they are:

LEGO and Unity Launch Ninjago Microgame Development Contest on LEGO Ideas

When LEGO drops teasers for new product, game, or media, we do our best to guess what they’re planning. Sometimes we hit the nail on the head; other times our theories go wide. But hypothesizing on advance hints by LEGO is fun too. Take for example their recent teaser about a collaborative effort with Unity. We believed that meant a LEGO Ninjago-themed microgame using the Unity game engine, much favored by indie game-devs. A reasonable guess, to be sure; but what LEGO finally unveiled threw our theory off. They’re not making the microgame. LEGO Ideas members will, in a contest.

Heck, we have the official LEGO Ideas Contest page for it. “The LEGO Ninjago 1-Button Game Challenge” pretty much sums up what interested participants are in for. If they have game coding potential they can download the Unity game engine, and their LEGO microgame template, free. The objective: to create a microgame (short, simple videogame) with only one button as input. Think perhaps of a basic “endless runner” app and you’d get the idea. It can be themed after Ninjago or an original idea. Naturally LEGO Ideas won’t allow third-party IPs for this. Designers can then show off their microgames on the LEGO Ideas contest page via trailers or screenshots.

The contest will award one winner for each of three categories: Ninjago-themed, original, and Unity behavior-bricks. And look at these prizes for the lucky ones:

Check out the contest page for links to download Unity’s LEGO microgame for development. The Ninjago Add-On pack also went live on Unity’s Asset Store for participants planning to theme their game after Ninjago. Entries must be in no later than November 4. The Top 15 will be subjected to a fan vote on November 18, with the three Grand Winners announced on December 2.

LEGO and Flickr Kick Off “LEGO Build and Capture Photo Contest 2021,” Runs Until November 1

LEGO already has plenty of its own platforms with which to hold contests for their fans to participate in. Beyond that, they also manage to partner with various enterprises for more varied competitions. Recently LEGO and image-hosting platform Flickr launched a new photo contest for LEGO fan-shutterbugs. Do you love LEGO and have a Flickr account? Why not show off your photography skills on this Flickr-cohosted contest? You might even have a chance to win some sweet LEGO Art sets for your efforts. Flickr and LEGO proudly present the “LEGO Build and Capture Photo Contest 2021.” It officially began in the middle of last week and will run until the first of November. Contestants must have a Flickr account and are at least age 18 upon joining. They simply need to add three photos of artistically-presented LEGO builds/minifigures to the official contest group. Even older Flickr-uploaded LEGO pictures are eligible provided that they are no older than January 1, 2020. The submitted photos must be fun, artsy and judged by Flickr moderators as “safe” for the competition. And remember this contest must have all entries by November 1.

The LEGO x Flickr Build and Capture Photo Contest 2021 will have six grand winners. First Place winners each get the 4-panel LEGO Marilyn Monroe Art Sets designed by Andy Warhol. Two Second Place winners will each get a Marvel Studios – Iron Man 3-panel LEGO Art Set. And finally the Third Place winners will receive Star Wars – The Sith 3-panel LEGO Art Sets. I have to say that these are pretty impressive sweepstakes raffle prizes. It will be nice to see that 2-feet tall, brick-built LEGO Lady Liberty Statue become the centerpiece of any LEGO collector’s room. LEGO even based this statue on the actual Lady Liberty minifigure included in 2012’s LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 6 (8827). Since the Second LEGO Ideas 2021 Review Stage is yet to be concluded in September, we can still expect a lot of product ideas to reach the necessary 10,000 votes in the next couple of months. The LEGO Ideas platform has seen a surprising increase in fan/member engagement as evidenced by the exponential growth of product ideas that qualify for the Review Stage. The First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, for example, managed to gather a record-breaking 57 product ideas last month. Personally, I’m happy to see such levels of activity from the LEGO fan community. I just hope that the LEGO Ideas Review Team will somehow take time to revisit its selection process to include a wider range of qualified entries, considering the volume of product ideas that made it through the voting stage. I’m not familiar with the inner workings of the LEGO Ideas Review Stage, and the challenges that the team needed to hurdle during their review. But I’m speaking from the perspective of a LEGO fan that is very eager to see his supported project become an official LEGO Ideas set. I guess we just have to wait and see shortly.

ICYMI: Last Two Days Left To Join the LEGO Ideas You’re The Final Piece! Contest

Last month, LEGO Ideas and premium puzzle maker Chronicle Books have teamed up for a new and unique LEGO contest. Dubbed as the LEGO Ideas You’re The Final Piece! Contest, this contest challenges you to come up with your very own LEGO design or photograph that can be rendered into a 1,000-piece puzzle.

The contest has already begun its Idea Intake Stage last month and is about close this stage on July 20. As of date, the contest platform has already received almost 300 fan entries and will close its intake in two days. The LEGO Ideas You’re The Final Piece! contest mechanics are very much the same as that of the Music to Our Ears, and We Love Sports! building contests. After the Idea Intake, panelists will determine which among the entries will proceed to the Fan Vote Stage and the Product Idea Review Stage. Again, the LEGO Ideas Team reminds us that being selected as the winner from the Fan Vote Stage does not automatically guarantee that the winning entry will qualify to become an official puzzle. This will be determined by the Review Team under the Product Idea Review Stage.

We’re talking anything older than 20 years or so, but brought back to life in LEGO bricks! Dig out the classics— LEGO nostalgia to vintage clothes, patterns, hairstyles, tech, or anything else that screams ‘retro-cool.’

Architecture

Modern, classic, ancient, futuristic? You be the architect! Find inspiration from classic styles or dream up the next big thing.

 

Four winners from the fan vote stage (one per category) will be chosen and will get to receive the following super-cool prizes.

Check Out the Winners of the LEGO Ideas Your Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Hero Contest

In case you missed it, the LEGO Ideas platform has announced the winners of one of its latest building contests. Kicking off last May, the LEGO Ideas Your Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Hero Contest challenges all LEGO Spider-Man fans out there to come up with their best LEGO rendition of the web-slinging Marvel superhero. And after two months’ worth of fan submissions, LEGO Ideas has now considered the following entries as the best among the rest. Let’s take a look at our winners.

The building contest itself consists of two categories – Brick and Art – with each category having a Grand Prize Winner and a Runner-Up.  I just have to say at this point that the winning entries for the Brick Category are just mind-blowing. I can just see how these original creations can inspire future LEGO set offerings. Perhaps as a comic book cover subtheme of LEGO Art? I guess we just have to wait and see.

A New Fan-Voted LEGO Minecraft Minifigure Skin Is Coming in 2022

LEGO CON may well be over, but there are a lot of things to look forward to thanks to LEGO’s very first virtual fan convention. If you recall from last month, one of the highlights of LEGO CON 2021 is a LEGO Minecraft poll where fans are asked to vote among three suggested LEGO Minecraft minifigure skins: a ninja, a warrior, and a ranger. And after several weeks of gathering support, LEGO has finally announced the winner via its social media channel.

With more than 56% of fan votes, the overall winner of this fan vote contest is the LEGO Minecraft Ninja Character minifigure skin. To be precise, this is not the first ninja character that was introduced to the LEGO Minecraft theme. Just last year, LEGO added in the Illlager Raid (21160) set a LEGO Minecraft version of Kai as a way of celebrating Ninjago’s 10th anniversary. However, having a new and original ninja skin added to the growing number of Minecraft-inspired minifigures is a very much welcomed offering.

There is no final word yet on how this new LEGO Minecraft Minifigure will make its debut next year. Whether added to the usual LEGO Minecraft set, or skin packs like those from 2016, I’m pretty sure that this is a welcomed treat to all fans of the theme. We’ll soon find out.
