LEGO Relaunches Its #BuildtoGive Holiday Campaign

The LEGO Group relaunches its charitable campaign from last year in line with the holiday season. #BuildtoGive is LEGO’s way of giving back and sharing to the world the gift of playing with LEGO bricks. If you recall, LEGO began this philanthropic endeavor last year with the goal of sharing 1 million LEGO sets to needy children across the globe.

The idea is simple: build a holiday-inspired ornament either at home or at select LEGO stores and upload and share a picture of it via social media with #BuildtoGive. For every qualifying uploaded image with the necessary hashtag, the LEGO Group will donate 1 LEGO set. It’s a great way to spread the joy of playing with LEGO bricks among children who are in need.

Through LEGO® Build to Give, the LEGO Group wants to donate 1 million LEGO sets to children that find themselves in difficult and vulnerable circumstances during the holiday season. For every ornament built and displayed in a LEGO store or shared online, the LEGO Group will donate one LEGO set to a child in need within hospitals, children homes, or underserved communities.

LEGO fans can use LEGO bricks at a LEGO store or at home. The LEGO Originals Pop Up Store and Gallery has opened today in Covent Garden in London, and with it comes the official reveal of a new kind of LEGO collectible – the LEGO Originals Wooden Minifigure (853967). The upscaled 5:1 wooden minifigure display piece is a nod to one of LEGO’s most recognizable pop-icon symbols that began in 1978. LEGO Originals is the company’s new line of products that intends to celebrate the legacy and humble beginnings of the LEGO Group.

London, November 1st: Launching with the LEGO® Originals Wooden Minifigure 853967, the LEGO Group and design specialists Room Copenhagen are introducing a new range of products dedicated to fans who love a bit of LEGO nostalgia and playful interior design. The product was revealed today at a unique LEGO Originals Pop Up Store and Gallery in Covent Garden, London where fans can drop by for a chance to pick up this rare and limited-edition model before it goes on sale more widely to LEGO VIP-members on LEGO.com from November 3rd to 7th, then globally from November 8th.

Founded in 1932 by master carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen, the first LEGO toys were hand crafted from wood. His craftsmanship and attention to detail secured a high level of quality for the products, but when wood supplies became scarce in the aftermath of the second World War, Ole started supplementing his production with plastic toys and the rest is history…

Speaking in 1950, Ole Kirk Kristiansen said: “I have always been committed to making the nicest and most robust objects, and just like other carpenters I believe the best type of advertising is when the product promotes itself. Our purpose is to produce a really good, solid and finely crafted piece of work, and ensure LEGO products always be known for their exceptional quality”.

Respecting our heritage as a producer of high-quality handmade wooden toys, this premium model is handcrafted from FSC-certified oak, with adjustable yellow plastic hands just like today’s LEGO minifigures. The model measures over 7” (20cm) tall, 4” (11cm) wide and 3,5” (9cm) deep. The last LEGO product to combine both wood and plastic was the 1130 Bedford firetruck 60 years ago in 1959.

This 5:1 upscaled version of the classic LEGO minifigure is presented in a premium gift box with a 28-page booklet featuring the history of the minifigure and the story behind the development of this wooden model. Also included are inspiring examples of how LEGO designers personalized their models, as well as inspiration for accessories fans can build using the included LEGO bricks. A number of LEGO designers have already given their take on how to personalize the model, and the results will be exhibited for a limited time at the LEGO Originals Pop Up Store and Gallery in London.

Since its arrival in 1978, there have been over 8,000 different minifigures launched, not to mention the many versions children have created themselves. This new edition is no exception. Owners are encouraged to unleash their creativity to decorate and customize the minifigure in unique ways, display with pride at home or the office and share their creations via social media using #LEGOOriginals.

LEGO to Launch a Collectible Wooden Minifigure

A couple of weeks ago, LEGO VIP members in the UK received an email invitation to participate in the opening of a LEGO Originals Pop-Up Gallery that will be held from November 1 to 2 in Covent Garden in London. Details were still a bit sketchy on what will be the highlight of the event, until today. A report from Campaign Live reveals that the LEGO Pop-Up Gallery will also be a venue for LEGO to launch on what seems to be a collectible wooden minifigure. This wooden collectible pays homage to the LEGO company’s roots as a wooden toymaker in the 1930s.

To be precise, the news item does not specify exactly what this exclusive collectible will be. But based on the images (and online leaks by the way), it seems that LEGO is implying that this LEGO exclusive will be a collectible wooden minifigure. Furthermore, this offering also hints on the fact that this will belong under the line of LEGO Originals products which first appeared as VIP rewards in the VIP rewards center. As a subtheme, LEGO Originals does not exactly fit the category of the typical brick and caters more to adult fans of LEGO that celebrate the heritage and legacy of the LEGO Group. If you recall, LEGO started hinting on this line of LEGO Original products a few months ago, with several prints of the brick’s technical drawings and designs offered as a form of VIP reward. Included also in these prints are schematics of their first wooden toys.

The report from Campaign Live also mentioned that this collectible wooden item will retail for £109.99 giving the impression that it will be a sizeable, limited-edition collectible or wooden display piece. Though the launching event will probably cater more to LEGO fans based in the UK, we can surely expect that this new product will be offered globally in the next few days.

LEGO Batman’s Will Arnett To Host LEGO Masters US

Last July, LEGO fans in the US were thrilled to hear the news that the ultimate LEGO reality TV show is now finally picked up by FOX and it looks like it’s even getting better. LEGO and Fox Broadcasting have finally announced and welcomed onboard the host of the upcoming LEGO Masters US TV show. I have some initial guesses including Chris Pratt and even David Beckham. And I’m delighted to hear that it will finally be LEGO Batman himself – Will Arnett – who will be at the helm of this highly intense LEGO reality TV show.

The multi-talented actor behind LEGO Batman’s brooding voice will bring this contest to an all-new level of brick intensity when he guides pairs of brick contenders beginning February 5. According to FOX, “The series will feature pairs of LEGO enthusiasts facing off in unbelievable brick-building challenges. Throughout the competition, Arnett, alongside expert judges, will encourage the builders, introduce incredible challenges and put the creations to the test until one duo is crowned LEGO Masters.”

The actor behind the brooding voice of LEGO Batman will be hosting the toughest LEGO-inspired reality TV show on FOX – the LEGO Masters US.

LEGO Masters has been a huge success both in the UK and Australia and is expected to have a warm welcome from millions of LEGO fans across the US. A website has been launched last July to facilitate auditions for the TV show, but my guess is that the roster is already complete and we will get to hear the final list of LEGO Masters US contestants anytime soon. Personally, I’m hoping to see Tyler and Sean join the fray, but I guess we will soon find out.

Similar to their UK and Australian counterparts, LEGO Masters US will stretch the limits of our builder-contenders as they figure their way out of the craziest, nearly-impossible LEGO building tasks that will be thrown at them. We’re still yet to see who will be given the most daunting task of judging these creations. For LEGO Masters Australia for example, the arduous task was given to Australian LEGO Certified Professional Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught. It was definitely not an easy task being the show’s judge and we’ll have to see to whom this sobering mantle will fall in.

Another 2020 LEGO Speed Champions Set Revealed

Earlier this month, we saw the debut of the first 2020 LEGO Speed Champions set in the form of the LEGO Speed Champions Formula E Panasonic Jaguar Racing GEN2 Car & Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY (76898). This time, it looks like it will be joined by another dual-pack set which marks the beginning of another exclusive partnership with LEGO and a world-renowned car brand.

Earlier today, Lamborghini and the LEGO Group has revealed it’s first-ever LEGO Speed Champions dual-pack set: the LEGO Speed Champions Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO & Urus ST-X (76899).  The announcement was made in a launching event in Spain. According to a press release from SportsCar365, this new 2020 LEGO Speed Champions set features two of Lamborghini’s most recent racing vehicles: the first being the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO with its signature shark fin, airscoop, and front diffuser, while the Urus ST-X is the company’s  first racing super SUV to compete on the track and off-road beginning next year.

“Fortunately, 2020 marks the start of a new chapter for LEGO Speed Champions with the evolution to the more accurate ‘8 Studs Wide’ design and we felt that we could now do the popular brand justice.

“Especially the wide body of the Huracan Super Trefeo Evo, and with the awesome Urus ST-X we also introduce our first super SUV into the theme, which fans will hopefully be just as thrilled with as we are.”

The LEGO Speed Champions Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO & Urus ST-X (76899) will clock at 659 pieces and will include 2 driver minifigures and several start lights on the track. It will also feature an 8-wide stud design that will allow more room for two minifigs to be placed inside the driver cockpit, and a wider build profile never seen in previous set designs.

We don’t have any official images as of to date, save for these ones courtesy of Stone Wars. But we can expect this latest addition to the 2020 LEGO Speed Champions sets to arrive in LEGO stores and online starting January 1, 2020 retailing for $49.99 USD. The LEGO Speed Champions Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO & Urus ST-X (76899) is the second out of five sets included in this 2020 collection.

Coming in at 87 pieces, there seems to be no exclusive LEGO piece needed to build this set. It’s kind of a basic build actually, and I understand why not all LEGO Star Wars fans are into this kind of thing. But the thought behind this particular build is what makes it more interesting. It’s nice of the designer behind this make-and-take build to feature in using as few as 80+ LEGO pieces the entire Luke Skywalker Timeline as we see him in the events of Episode IV to VIII. Though made up of basic bricks, each rendition of the iconic Star Wars Jedi is easily recognizable. I like how old man Luke was nicely rendered with all the gray beard, hair and sand yellow bricks to represent his current garb as seen in The Last Jedi. The October 2019 LEGO Store Calendar has just been released by LEGO, and it underscores everything that we can expect from this week’s Triple Force Friday celebrations. October 4-6: Free Exclusive Battle of Endor (40362) Micro Build

For qualifying LEGO Star Wars purchases worth $75 and above, you’ll receive this free LEGO Star Wars Battle of Endor – 2oth Anniversary Edition (40362) added to your cart. Just be quick with the mouse trigger though if you will order online at LEGO Shop@Home because this exclusive freebie is only available from October 4 to 6 or until supplies last.

 

October 5: Join a Special Luke Skywalker Timeline Make-and-Take Building Event

It’s nice to hear more info about this Triple Force Friday promotional make-and-take event. On October 5, adult fans of LEGO will be treated with another freebie by participating in-stores to create a brick memorabilia of Luke Skywalker’s timeline across the Star Wars films. Take note that this building event is intended for adults ages 18 and above, and will require a pre-registration in-store on October 1st. Fans are also encouraged to come inside LEGO stores dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters from October 4 to 6. Special treats will be given to those who will participate on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

October 16: Visit Your Local LEGO Store to Build a UFO

Visit your local LEGO Store to build and take home a UFO minibuild. Same as with LEGO’s previous monthly minibuilds, this building event has limited space and registration is required. In-store signups start on October 3 and are intended for children ages 6 to 14 only.

Come into your local LEGO store to decode hidden building instructions using a pair of special glasses. Build your ship as fast as you can and race your siblings, a parent, or new friends. This experience is intended for all ages, and no registration is required. Do take note that this in-store experience may not be available in all LEGO Store locations.

 

October 31: The LEGO Hidden Side Newbury Juice Bar (40336) Freebie is Back

Just in time for Halloween, you can stop by at your local LEGO store in your spookiest costume for some trick or treat fun. Plus, you can also receive once again the LEGO Hidden Side Newbury Juice Bar (40336) for a minimum single-receipt purchase of any LEGO merchandise worth $50 USD and above both in-store and online.

 

Other than the latest LEGO Star Wars sets that will be offered this week, LEGO fans can now also purchase the LEGO Creator Expert Gingerbread House (10267), LEGO Technic Liebherr R 9800 Excavator (42100), and the new 2019 LEGO Overwatch sets starting today.
