It can be tough when tragic occurrences happening in the world around us affect certain events, hobbies and whatnot that we enjoy. Even LEGO isn’t immune to this. Last December they announced how the Architecture set depicting Las Vegas (21038) was delayeddue to the grisly October shooting incident there.
A follow-up article earlier in January expressed optimism in getting LEGO Architecture Las Vegas finally released by the end of that month. It’s now February and that didn’t happen. Why is that? Because LEGO has decided to delay the set anew, all the way back into fall later this year.
The sad news was broken during the ongoing 2018 Nuremberg Toy Fair, as might be the case for other significant LEGO news this week. The reason, as stated, goes back to the October 2017 shooting incident in Las Vegas, where the assailant opened fire on an outdoor concert from his room in the Mandalay Bay.
If you remember our December 2017 article, the Mandalay Bay Hotel is one of the structures depicted in Architecture set 21038. LEGO has decided to scrap that model in the set and return to the drawing board for a new Vegas building, serving as a replacement for the bloodied location.
No word has been given on what the new Las Vegas structure will be swapped for the Mandalay Bay. It’ll have to be as distinctive as its fellows: Luxor and Encore Hotels, and the Stratosphere Tower, among others. LEGO could hold a fan poll, but that might ruffle people’s sensibilities too.
Originally slated to come out at roughly the same time as LEGO Architecture Shanghai (21039), the Las Vegas 21038 set’s new release date is now set for September. Hopefully no further delays will ensue.
Thanks to Promobricksfor sharing the news as it happens at the Nuremberg Toy Fair.
Earlier last January, we reported that a new LEGO theme will be released this June following the debut of Unikitty’s TV series over at Cartoon Network. This time around, the titular unicorn/slash posh kitten will now have a Collectible Minifigure Series of her own, as announced during this year’s Nuremberg Toy Fair. Thanks to Zusammengebaut, who has been covering the event of Germany’s grandest toy fair, we now have a firsthand account that LEGO has indeed confirmed the availability of the LEGO Unikitty Collectible Minifigure series (41775).
This latest CMF series is slated to arrive sometime in August, and will retail for 3.99 Euros per blind bag. Speaking about the series’ blind bags, Andres of Zusammengebaut further describes that this CMF will be a little hard, if not close to impossible of distinguishing one from each other, given that there are 12 colored variants of Unikitty to collect. It’s like feeling your way through the LEGO DFB series blind bags, with only the hairpieces having some distinguishable marks. There were also rumors that the LEGO Unikitty CMF may also bear a sort of resemblance to the now discontinued LEGO Mixels with regards to being brick-built characters rather than actual minifigures. However, given the ‘blocky’ features of the show’s characters, it is highly possible to see LEGO Unikitty CMF characters be made up of several LEGO pieces – after all, Unikitty herself is made up of 14 LEGO elements. I just hope that beyond the 12 Unikitty variants, LEGO will throw in additional characters from the CN series, since its kind of unusual for LEGO to offer a limited CMF with only 12 characters in it.
One thing that wasn’t mentioned yet from Nuremberg is that as far as Zussemengebaut is concerned, the confirmation of 5 LEGO sets under the Unikitty theme (sets 41451, 41452, 41453, 41454, and 41455), including two Cartoon Network inspired sets earlier reported by Brick Show Brian, is still yet to be heard. As a last note, since the LEGO Unikitty CMF is slated to be released in August, it will be quite a while before we see any official images from this set circulating the internet.
Thanks again to Andres Lehmann of Zusammengebaut for keeping us posted.
For many toy collectors, LEGO play sets are already the best there is in their opinion. But even the best can be made better. And how do you make LEGO even better? By giving static models of vehicles for example, the power to move, light up and generally be animated.
This has been the purview of LEGO Power Functions, mechanical and electric components that give certain LEGO models motion and sound. In fact, the brand has already developed a new version of these systems with Power Functions 2.0, and two LEGO City train sets will be the first to incorporate them.
In yet another wave of updates coming from this year’s Nuremberg Toy Fair, word is out that the two latest train model sets carrying the LEGO City line name will incorporate Power Functions 2.0 as part of their inner workings. Expected to be released this summer, the first sets that will incorporate the latest power functions will be the LEGO City Passenger Train (60197) and the LEGO City Cargo Train (60198), which bares a remarkable similarity to previous sets such as 2014’s High Speed Passenger Train (60051) and Cargo Train (60052).
High Speed Passenger Train (60051).
Cargo Train (60052).
The expected Power Functions 2.0 add-on features haven’t been specified just yet, but Promobricks, who also happened to be on the floor at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, reports that this new feature will do away with the old, infrared remote control system, and will make use of a newer Bluetooth wireless protocol that allows the train to be controlled remotely using an app on any mobile device. Pretty cool, right? The only caveat is that the new Power Functions 2.0 is not compatible with its predecessors. Meaning that the old plugs of the previous system will not fit the new Smart Hub.
The future reception of these upcoming LEGO City sets 60197 and 60198 will be the first major product test for Power Functions 2.0, so model train enthusiasts would be among those who need to keep an eye out for these sets when they do come. Original Power Functions accessories will still be available in LEGO stores that carry them, as well as on shop.LEGO.com, so that’s that for now.

LEGO has always been about expressing one’s building creativity – whether working with bricks, minifigures or any other LEGO set that anyone can customize. Now it looks like fans of the chibi collectible theme, LEGO BrickHeadz, will also have some leg room in customizing their faved set.
Zusammengebaut, the German fan site covering the events as they happen at the LEGO booth at the 2018 Nuremberg Toy Fair, has just dispatched a new handwritten note concerning a new customizable LEGO BrickHeadz, aptly named Go Brick Me (41597).
When it was originally launched by LEGO, the BrickHeadz line seemed to be the brand’s attempt to take a page from the popular bobble head vinyl figures of Funko Pops. Most BrickHeadz releases have been depictions of popular characters from licensed franchises after all. You just needed to build them first.
The LEGO BrickHeadz Go Brick Me (41597) set is going to be launched sometime in the summer, but whether or not it will take off on its own is still something of an open question. While fans and collectors have enjoyed the licensed characters given the BrickHeadz treatment, imaginative builders have taken BrickHeadz figures apart to create custom or original characters well on their own.
Given that token, a dedicated “make your own” LEGO BrickHeadz figure like Go Brick Me (41597) might come off as a superfluous extra. For now, until the new set takes off, one can simply purchase multiple existing BrickHeadz from stores or online and do their own customs by mixing and matching parts. We’ll see how that changes with Go Brick Me.
Our coverage of the many events relating to the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick continues, this time, with more news of the partnership between LEGO and Walmart. We covered in a previous article some awesome retro LEGO sets now made available in Walmart stores, and now more details have surfaced.
An official websitehas been launched by Walmart and LEGO that presents a concise history of the world’s most iconic brick set brand spanning a period of six decades. LEGO60th.com also highlights some of the most important developments with LEGO with regard to its sets, including how its partnership with Walmart helped in promoting the LEGO brand.
Aside from that, LEGO60th also lays down the specific steps on how collectors may grab certain freebies that come with purchasing the LEGO Classic Bricks on a Roll (10715) set. Not only does it work with Walmart branches, but with purchases made online through Jet.com.
When we wrote our previous article on these Walmart exclusives, the website was still having technical difficulties staying up, but it’s fine now and the procedure is up for all to see. Upon buying the LEGO Classic set 10715 from any Walmart store or ordering through Jet.com, they need only to send a photo of their receipt form to LEGO60th.com to get the limited edition collectible booklet with retro building instructions for Bricks on a Roll. Bear in mind, however, that this promotion is only available for US residents 18 years old and above, and will run until March 9, 2018 or until supply lasts.
The website also lists the official release dates for the LEGO Classic 60th Anniversary sets: House (4000028) on February 1, Windmill (4000029) on February 5, and the Truck (400030) on February 9.
A listing of other LEGO Classic products is also included for online ordering. Visit www.LEGO60th.com for the products on offer, and stay for the nice history lesson.

The 2018 Nuremberg Toy Fair is now in full swing, and just when we thought that the apparent news about LEGO’s no-show on this year’s line-up of prestigious international toy fairs will somehow dampen the excitement, it seems that LEGO still have some cool surprises under its sleeves. Announced today at Germany’s largest toy fair expo, LEGO motor heads and super car connoisseurs will be delighted to know that this year’s next LEGO Technic supercar will be the classy yet sophisticated, Bugatti Chiron.
The LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) comes in at 3,599 pieces and LEGO’s second offering under its LEGO Technic Ultimate Series, following the likes of 2016’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056). The Bugatti Chiron (42083) is also similarly designed at a 1:8 scale, in collaboration with Bugatti Automobiles SAS. As expected, images of this latest LEGO Technic supercar were not shown, except for the teaser image that was revealed at the Toy Fair.
Here’s LEGO’s press release and teaser video uploaded via LEGO’s social media page, with the set’s release date slated on August 1, 2018.
The LEGO Group is pleased to announce today the partnership between Bugatti Automobiles SAS and LEGO Technic. As part of this collaboration, a LEGO Technic model of the celebrated Chiron super sports car in scale 1: 8 – the second set from the LEGO Technic Ultimate series. For Niels Henrik Horsted, LEGO Technic Marketing Director, partnering with a company like Bugatti is the ideal choice: “Following the success of the LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS model, it was very important to us to find a partner with an iconic vehicle unique in the automotive industry. That’s exactly what we achieved with Bugatti and the groundbreaking Chiron. “Wiebke Stöhl, Head of Licensing and Marketing at Bugatti Brand Lifestyle, is also excited about the cooperation between the two companies: “We are very proud of the Chiron and we are honored that there will now be a LEGO Technic version of this exceptional supercar. Our designers and engineers have enjoyed working with the LEGO Tehcnic team together. The result is an authentic replica of the Chiron “. The 1: 8 scale Chiron model from LEGO Technic will feature 3,599 LEGO elements and will be available on August 1, 2018.
As you already know, the 2018 Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany goes on from the end of January to the first week of February. Already some major reveals have gone out from there, including the first three tie-in LEGO and Duplo sets for Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
And then, there are some bits of news that have been so restricted by LEGO’s efforts at photography restriction, that info on them has to be literally jotted down. German LEGO news source Zusammengebaut cleverly did that to tell the world of some of the new upcoming LEGO Architecture sets for this year.
According to his hastily handwritten note (apparently LEGO overlooked this prohibition for the Toy Fair), two LEGO Architecture sets are going to be released later on in 2018, at the heels of the already-announced Las Vegas Skyline (21038). Included are the official set numbers and pricing in Euro.
First is the LEGO Architecture Great Wall of China (21041), a potentially long-winding structural set that’s priced at 49.99 Euros. But even that pales in comparison to the LEGO Architecture Statue of Liberty (21042), which, judging by its 99.99 Euro price, must be humongous indeed. 21042’s price point also suggests that it might be on the same scale as that of 2016’s United States Capitol Building (21030) which also has the same price range, coming in at 1,032 pieces.
Time will tell if later on during the Nuremberg Toy Fair, LEGO will opt to show the public what those Architecture sets must look like. They did the same for the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom sets after all, so we’ll see.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2015 sequel and comeback film of the Jurassic Park series, is set to premiere in the middle of this year. And as we reported on back in December 2017, LEGO’s going to release tie-in sets in line with the movie for franchise fans.
The first major look at these LEGO Jurassic World sets was finally granted at this year’s Nuremberg Toy Fair. LEGO and Universal announced that the first salvo of 13 product releases consists of several LEGO sets, a Juniors set and a Duplo set for younger ages. Here’s the official press release straight from Nuremberg.
NUREMBERG, Germany, Jan. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Universal Brand Development (Universal) and the LEGO Group announced today the launch of their largest Jurassic World partnership to date, offering an expanded line of construction sets, all-new animated content, and, for the first time ever, a lifestyle collection. In anticipation of the upcoming global theatrical release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in June, Universal is building upon the success of LEGO Jurassic World, with the debut of construction sets that span every LEGO age category, as well as two all-new, animated videos, and a collection of soft lines and publishing to reach audiences beyond the toy aisle.
“Fans embraced LEGO Jurassic World with our initial product launch, and we couldn’t wait to come back and give them more of what they love with new ways to play and new opportunities to interact with the brand,” said Vince Klaseus, President of Universal Brand Development. “The expansion of our partnership reflects Universal’s objective to create lifestyle programs and engaging fan experiences that reach every age category, 365 days-a-year.”
In support of the theatrical launch of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Universal and the LEGO Group will globally launch 13 constructions sets that span across the various LEGO® play categories: LEGO Systems (ages 6+), LEGO Juniors (ages 4-7) and LEGO DUPLO (ages 2-4), plus a collectability offering with LEGO BrickHeadz, available this spring only at Walmart. The sets will hit shelves in April, with retailer exclusives at both Toys “R” Us and Walmart. Additionally, fans will find new soft line and publishing offerings available later this year.
First up is the LEGO Jurassic World Blue’s Helicopter Pursuit (75928). Priced at $39.99, this set will have Chris Pratt’s dinosaur-wrangling character Owen Brady try to reunite with his last surviving raptor Blue, by catching her first on his quad-ATV, with help from a helicopter piloted by Ken Wheatley (Ted Levine) and a DPG pilot.
LEGO Jurassic World Blue’s Helicopter Pursuit (75928)
Builders can unite Owen with his lead Velociraptor in this set designed for fans, ages seven and up. The set includes a quadbike, helicopter, featuring rotating blades and dual searchlights. The set also includes three minifigures: Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Ken Wheatley (Ted Levine) and a pilot, plus Blue, the Velociraptor.
Next is the LEGO Juniors T-Rex Breakout (10756), which depicts probably the original Jurassic Park T-Rex busting through an electrified gate while Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and panicked Dinosaur Protection Group staff try to evacuate their gate outpost in a van with some dinosaur eggs and a baby. It’s priced at $49.99
LEGO Juniors T-Rex Breakout (10756)
Children as young as four can play along and build a posable T. rex, opening gate and a truck with Quick Start chassis. This LEGO Juniors set includes easier building instructions and quick start elements as well as three minifigures and a baby dinosaur figure. Minifig characters include Claire (as played by Bryce Dallas Howard)
Finally, there’s the LEGO Duplo T-Rex Tower (10880). For $29.99 you’ll get another easy-build set that you and your children of four years and up can enjoy assembling together. The set includes a Jurassic World watchtower, a T-Rex figure with opening jaw and a more detailed Duplo minifigure of Owen.
LEGO Duplo T-Rex Tower (10880)
This new LEGO DUPLO set is suitable for builders, ages two and older. This easy-to-build dinosaur features large building bricks and is great for creating endless role-play stories! Toddlers and their parents can build this set together, which features a T. rex with opening jaw, revolving lookout tower, car and an Owen LEGO® DUPLO® figure.
As Jurassic Outpost pointed out, it seems that LEGO is already giving us a hint not only about the other dinosaurs that we will find in this upcoming wave of LEGO Jurassic World sets, but also about the much-talked about the villainous hybrid creature in the film. Take a closer look at the box art for 75928.
The dinosaur that is featured on set 75930 bares a very close resemblance to the rumored Indoraptor that will be introduced in the film. It looks like another one of those hybrid experiments that have gone awry. Other than the Indoraptor, the box art also suggests that we will be having a Carnotaurus (75929) and a Stygimoloch (75927) added into the theme.
And that’s the first batch of LEGO Jurassic World tie-in sets for the movie. More products will be revealed in February during the New York Toy Fair. The film arrives in cinemas on June 7.
As you know well by now, the LEGO brick that we all grew up with and loved is celebrating its 60th birthday. Since the day when Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, the founder and inventor of the LEGO brick, filed the original patent on January 28, 1958, thousands of LEGO sets built on that single iconic brick meant countless and priceless smiles among kids and adults alike. Perhaps the coolest thing about the LEGO brick is that even though it has expanded and evolved in a myriad of shapes and sizes, it hasn’t changed in its fundamental design and building principle. Which means to say that the very first brick created in 1958, will still perfectly fit onto modern LEGO pieces that we have today.
To celebrate the occasion, the LEGO Group posted three vintage film recordings from the bygone era of LEGO’s humble beginnings: from the designing the first LEGO sets, and even the patient sorting and boxing of its plastic pieces and elements, this collection of videos gives us a glimpse of how things were done inside the LEGO factory back then.
