Last September, LEGO took a significant experimental step in bringing their products closer to customers. Why the company already has so many branded stores around the world, it feels it could do more to extend its reach. Thus were the first LEGO Pop-Up Stores opened that month, on trial basis.
If you recall photos of the Manchester, Connecticut LEGO Pop-Up Store we shared in the past, the entrance had a prominent sign counting down “112 Days Left to Shop Play”. After all, pop-up stores are temporary, and that sign means how long the Manchester store will stay open before closing.
Now, a LEGO Pop-Up Store employee going by maniac4bricks on Twitter and Instagram has revealed that by January 6, 2019 all currently open LEGO Pop-Up Stores will be closing up shop. His revelation on social media was, in his own words, done with permission from his store manager, making it authentic as any announcement could be.
LEGO Pop-Up Stores were different from the full-blown branded outlets by being of course smaller, the absence of Pick-a-Brick walls and Build-a-Mini stations, along with no mini-build activities. Apparently not being a full store has dampened customer enthusiasm where these pop-up shops opened up before.
With just over a month left before the LEGO Pop-Up Stores close they are, according to maniac4bricks, looking for final feedback on how best these temporary outlets served customers. Furthermore, with the clock running out, one last big call for shoppers to drop in on these pop-ups has been called.

Just over three months remain before the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel starring Bree Larson, arrives in cinemas. It doesn’t take a genius to know that LEGO also has its hand in the merchandise pie for this future blockbuster. In fact, some of the film’s tie-in sets have already been spotted. Again, a German LEGO news source – Promo Bricks this time – has brought word that once more, Toys R Us Canada has the distinction of putting a LEGO set supposed to come out in 2019 on their shelves now. It’s named the LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127).
This set is centered on a vehicle with minifigures added for an awesome action sequence. The vehicle looks very similar to SHIELD quinjet, as it probably looks like in the 1990s when the Captain Marvel film takes place. It’s armed with a pair of 4 flick-missile launchers.
Its accompanying minifigures include Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, young SHIELD Agent Nick Fury, Carol’s pet cat Goose, and the Skrull infiltrator Talos, who himself is armed with a pistol that has a spring-loaded projectile. Accommodations on the quinjet include a one-pilot cockpit and cargo or passenger space accessible by rear hatch.
For now, the only price known for the Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) is at a Canadian price of $39.94 CAD on that country’s Toys R Us stores. Rough conversions would be US$29.99, £23.65 and €26.62, though there’s no further news on when this tie-in might be available outside Canada. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel premieres March 8, 2019.
Over the past week we have covered the release of the first full images of so many LEGO sets that are officially coming out throughout the beginning of the coming year. Among those lines is LEGO City, which boasted an impressivenumber of upcoming sets, themed around firefighting and police. While the batch updates of 2019 LEGO City sets seem over and done with, individual sets are still being presented, such as this impressive firefighting set featuring the impressive LEGO City Fire Plane (60217). Listed by Toys R Us Canada, the Fire Plane is a shout out to those extreme machines that are deployed to fight forest fires in national parks.
The Fire Plane (60217) evokes the “water-bomber” firefighting aircraft, amphibious planes that can land on a body of water, fill up its internal tanks, then fly over a large blaze to dump the water onto the fire (represented by transparent dome pieces).
Also included in the set is an all-terrain buggy with an all new 3-stud shooter. As for what these vehicles will be trying to put out, the set includes two trees of varying sizes (with a resident skunk), dotted with these awesome “fire pieces” found on the other LEGO City firefighting sets.
The LEGO City Fire Plane (60217) also includes three minifigures: an aircraft pilot, buggy driver, and an on-foot forest fireman. Here’s the set’s product description as mentioned by TRU Canada.

The Holidays are almost upon us, and in LEGO online shopping that means special discounts on particular sets and the release of seasonal ones, usually added free with minimum purchases. And each Shop@Home has their own schedule as to when these special offerings start. These ones are for Shop@Home UK.
First, it looks like Shop@Home UK has put all their LEGO Technic sets on the discount list, each of them getting 20% off their regular prices. This is a prime opportunity to snag some of the Technic sets that have been labeled “Retiring Soon”; there are seven by last count.
Here are some of the best LEGO Technic sets to get by this 20% discount:
Bugatti Chiron (42083) – £329.99 £263.99 HARD TO FIND
Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056) – £259.99 £207.99 HARD TO FIND
6×6 All Terrain Tow Truck (42070) – £219.99 £175.99
Just the purchase of any one of these LEGO Technic sets mentioned above will be enough to get the seasonal LEGO Christmas Carousel set (40293), which goes with the minimum purchase price of £85. This seems to be the first Shop@Home to definitely tell how 40293 will be available for the Holidays, as Shop@Home US hasn’t announced anything yet.
By now, it’s been over a month since WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales released LEGO DC Super-Villains, and thus far it’s been a hit like most of its fellow titles that has shared the same general game mechanics all these years. Its current popularity surely lies in having DC baddies front and center this time.
But as a DC game, even with villains as protagonists, the heroes are still there (the Justice League get five bonus levels even). And since they’re present, they can get DLC that’s tailor-made for them, particularly one hero with a movie premiering not long now.
If you think the Aquaman featured in LDCSV is cool enough now, wait until WB-TT rolls out its latest DLC themed after the DCEU Aquaman movie coming out in December. It’ll consist of new levels and costumes to turn Aquaman into the Jason Momoa version, with similar changes to all characters featured in the movie.
For owners of LEGO DC Super-Villains with season passes they can receive the first batch of Aquaman DLC level packs in December 4. After they’ve played this and watched the film next on December 14, the second DLC pack will come January 8, at which time the two DLC packs will also be available bundled.
The Aquaman DLC includes 4 character packs and six playable-level packs all inspired by the film. LDCSV is available now, for Microsoft Windows, Sony PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
The action-packed Aquaman movie packs offer players the chance to control DC’s legendary pair, Aquaman and Mera, in the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. It’s up to them to lead their people against Aquaman’s brother, Orm, who seeks to unite the seven kingdoms against the surface world. The packs expand the main game’s already large roster of over 150 iconic DC characters. The first pack adds new playable characters Aquaman (Gladiator), Black Manta (Movie), Mera, Orm (Gladiator), King Nereus and Queen Atlanna. The second pack adds new playable characters Aquaman (Movie), Vulko, Trench Creature, Murk, Brine King and Orm (Movie).
When the official images for the Ferrari F40 Competizione LEGO set (75890) was revealed just days before, it was the assurance that the Speed Champions line of brick-built high-performance cars wasn’t going to fade quietly just yet. And the F40 itself is a magnificent sight with plenty of swappable options. LEGO hinted at more Speed Champions sets arriving in 2019 than just the Ferrari, and we now have the rest of the 2019 LEGO Speed Champions respective box art images . There are two more single-car sets and two dual sets due to arrive next year.
We’ve had the privilege of sharing with our readers the official pages of the first 2019 sets for the LEGO Friends series quite recently. They included some sweet building and vehicle sets plus character-specific Heart Box kits with the cute minifigures of the circle of girl friends from Heartlake City.
Apparently, those are only the “big” LEGO Friends sets to expect next year; there are also the “small” products to expect from the Heartlake gang. By that we mean LEGO Friends polybags are also on their way, with one already found in advance at a toy store in Bonn, Germany.
This Friends polybag is numbered 30409 and features Emma with her pet cat. The descriptive name for the product hasn’t been discovered yet by German LEGO news source Promo Bricks, but it does feature Emma and her pet riding bumper cars: one minifigure-sized for her, and the other one kitty-sized.
For its pricing in Europe, the LEGO Friends polybag 30409 is €3.99 – about the usual to be expected from a polybag of this size. The appearance of this item is proof that perhaps despite being earmarked for a 2019 official release, LEGO fans can have this and other new Friends sets before the year’s end.
Warner Bros. Interactive and Traveller’s Tales are just on a role when it comes to their multiplatform videogame series based on LEGO, its product lines, and its licensed franchises like Marvel, DC, and Disney. This year alone LEGO gamers have enjoyed titles based on The Incredibles and DC’s Super Villains.
Back in 2014 Traveller’s Tales division TT Fusion adapted the hit LEGO Movie into videogame form, sharing the same general themes and mechanics as those of its numerous siblings. With sequel installment The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part coming next year, having WBI-TT make a game sequel sounds obvious.
And indeed the developers aren’t going to keep this development ambiguous. While the information they have announced isn’t much – the teaser image above, a release date, and the game platforms (no real spoiler) – it’s enough to generate interest for the title, considering its predecessor The LEGO Movie Videogame wasn’t as successful compared to the rest.
Gamers can expect The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame from WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales is expected to be released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and PS4 on February 26, 2019 or almost three weeks after the premiere of the movie itself. The Switch version follows a month later, March 26.
“Packed with fan-favorite and exciting new characters, mysterious locations and action from both the sequel and the original blockbuster The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is a wild adventure for kids to explore…Players must scour the stars for rare items, materials and tools to complete their collections and help their journey across the LEGO universe, experiencing a wide array of amazing environments, wacky vehicles and incredible creatures along the way.”
Arthur Parsons
Head of Design, Traveller’s Tales
“The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is a one-of-a-kind experience full of fantastic characters and open-world adventures with a strong emphasis on creative solutions to puzzles and building within the film’s universe…LEGO fans of all ages will have fun rebuilding their own world using tools to create roads, change the landscape and build structures to unlock more rewards and missions.”
