LEGO Apologizes for Brittle, Reddish Brown Bricks – Assures Problem is Now Solved

Designing a system of plastic bricks and pieces that can be assembled, stand up to semi-rough handling, and yet still be disassembled without too much effort is an art mastered by LEGO. It’s these qualities that put LEGO above many inferior copycats. But even this well-established toy brand has off days too. Since the start of 2018, there have been LEGO owners who have noticed that some bricks and building elements of a particular range of color have been, well, less robust than their fellows. They would either snap apart or crumble into fragments when tried to attach to another brick. And these primarily happen amongst reddish brown bricks.

A Common Problem: LEGO Reddish Brown Bricks Are So Brittle!

What is it with these brown pieces that makes them so brittle?
byu/jtown5000 inlego

After a majority of the year without any announcement by the LEGO Group about the problem of brittle, reddish brown bricks, the LEGO Group finally released their official statement addressing the oddities found in these LEGO pieces. Furthermore, they’ve also added that these quality issues are solved.

LEGO Group Apologizes for the Brittle Reddish Brown Bricks

It’s possible that the issue didn’t escalate into something ugly because many owners who encountered the problematic reddish brown bricks were smart enough to go to LEGO Customer Service with their concerns, and received replacement bricks. The LEGO announcement not stating specific sets affected by inferior component bricks was also a positive step.

Anyway, here’s the LEGO announcement:

The LEGO Group has been working hard to address reported issues with Reddish Brown bricks becoming brittle and breaking under use.

The issues have been identified and we are happy to announce that they have been fixed.

The fixes were put in place earlier this year for the LEGO colours 154 (New Dark Red), 192 (Reddish Brown) and 308 (Dark Brown).

We waited until now to make the announcement, as we wanted to be 100% certain all issues had been addressed and fixed.

If you, at any time, have a LEGO element which doesn’t live up to the standard you’d expect from us – then please don’t hesitate to contact Customer Service and we will send you replacement parts.

We are terribly sorry for the inconveniences this has caused our loyal LEGO Fans across the World.

LEGO Overwatch Sets Now Available for Preorder at LEGO Shop@Home UK

First, it had sounded like an April Fools’ joke. Then when confirmation arrived, fans of the colorful online first-person shooter title Overwatch from Blizzard Entertainment were in agreement that it was one of the sweetest new franchise licenses acquired by LEGO. The preview of the first LEGO Overwatch sets and minifigures only whetted collectors’ appetites.

Following some awesome previews in online images and at the 2018 Blizzcon, plus the opening of preorders last month, LEGO has gone the extra mile by having the Overwatch sets listed on Shop@Home be addable to your online shopping bag. Well, at least for LEGO fans in the UK.

LEGO Shop@Home UK has all six LEGO Overwatch sets marked as arriving on January 1 if customers will preorder it now. In comparison, the US Shop@Home only has one set marked as arriving on January 2, one day after its UK release. For the meantime, fans in the US may opt to include these sets in their wishlist.

Here’s a list of the upcoming LEGO Overwatch sets and their Shop@Home listings wherever applicable:

LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office (10246) and Brick Bank (10251) Will Soon Retire

UPDATE: The LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office (10246) is still available for backorder on December 17 via Amazon, for the same LEGO Store price of $159.99. If you’re wanting to add this to your collection without cashing out additional bucks, then now is the best time to do so.

Early last November, LEGO made a series of announcements that would probably have LEGO collectors and fans rushing in to take action at the last moment. This is the news that a number of LEGO sets have been marked for retirement, which means pretty soon they’re going to run out just everywhere. And this time around, we might be seeing the curtain fall for two of the most loved LEGO modular sets around: the Detective’s Office (10246) and Brick Bank (10251).

Normally, the announcement that a LEGO set is to be retired means that it will eventually be removed from the production line, making it more and more difficult to find in any LEGO brand or certified store, with third-party retailers taking advantage of the situation. While the listings on Shop@Home haven’t been updated as of yet, their availability statuses are either “Sold Out” or “Call to Check Product Availability”.

Detective's Office (10246) — LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office (10246)

10251 main — LEGO Creator Expert Brick Bank (10251)

Indeed, the LEGO Creator Expert Brick Bank (10251) is now gone seemingly everywhere online, meaning, if any remain unsold they’re either unlisted or to be found only on some retail shelves. Now, the Detective’s Office (10246), which was a star last Black Friday, only has one set left available on Amazon.

Both these Creator Expert LEGO sets were part of a series of modular building sets that could be built side by side to create an urban street that’s more detailed than usually seen in LEGO City perhaps. The retirement of these two sets will also mean that their aftermarket prices will certainly balloon as well.

LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) Official Images Released

The latest trailer of Captain Marvel has now landed on the web, and you may or may not like how Brie Larson sounded off when she declared that she’ll end the Kree-Skrull war, but I have to say that this does not dampen my enthusiasm in seeing this next MCU instalment when it lands in theaters in March next year. In case you missed it, here’s the 2^nd trailer of Disney and Marvel’s Captain Marvel.

Now at around the 1:15 mark, you’ll immediately notice the SHIELD Quinjet that eventually made its way to become a LEGO set, revealed to have been spotted in TRU stores in Canada. The snapped image by an eagle-eyed LEGO Marvel fan shows a sizeable brick-built version of what could be SHIELD’s early version of the famed Quinjet. It also shows Captain Marvel of course and a younger version of Nick Fury together with a Skrull minifigure. This time, thanks to Yahoo News, we now have a better look at this new MCU-inspired LEGO playset in the form of the LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127), including its official product description. Take a look.

LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127)

307 pieces; $29.99

Minifigures include Captain Marvel, Nick Furry, Talos and a cat figure.

Fly with Captain Marvel and Nick Fury to rescue Goose the cat from Talos the Skrull! Zoom over the desert with Fury in his awesome Quinjet. Watch out for the Talos’s stud shooter. Fire 4 missiles at once with each of the jet’s flick-missile shooters and attack with Captain Marvel’s power energy. Then grab Goose, place her in the back of the jet and fly away!

Since the LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) set has already found its way in toy shelves in TRU Canada, then we can expect this to appear anytime soon in the US, hopefully in the first weeks of January. The rumor mill also tells that there might be five LEGO tie-in sets that bear the Avengers logo, though it is unclear if LEGO opted to add another set dedicated to the Kree superhero. From the looks of it, it seems that LEGO intends to bring together all upcoming MCU-related building sets under the banner of the Marvel Avengers. I guess this is great considering how well these upcoming LEGO Marvel sets can be brought together for a massive Marvel universe showdown. We’ll soon find out soon enough.

Disney’s Captain Marvel will land in theaters March 8, 2019.

Thanks to Hoth Bricks, we now have a closer look at these new 2019 LEGO BrickHeadz Seasonal sets, starting with a festive Party Clown, a Valentines Puppy, and a Dragon Dance Guy that marks the celebration of the Chinese New Year. To be exact, we have official images of the first three sets under this theme followed by a glimpse of other LEGO BrickHeadz Seasonal sets slated for 2019. Check these out.

From the looks of things, LEGO seems to have pretty much laid out its plans for the LEGO BrickHeadz theme next year, and based on these set numbers, it looks like there are still more reveals waiting for these chibi brick creations. LEGO DC Super-Villains Aquaman Movie DLC Available Now

Last week, it was revealed that the LEGO DC Super-Villains video game will get a DLC pack that is directly tied up to DC’s Extended Universe. And today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment unveiled a brand new trailer that marks the release of the game’s first Level Pack DLC that pays homage to the ruler of the Seven Seas. The LEGO DC Super-Villains Aquaman Movie DLC first downloadable pack – Aquaman Movie DLC Part 1 – is now available for Season Pass holders starting today, while the second half of the DLC, Aquaman Movie DLC Part 2, will be available on January 8, 2019.

Check out the trailer below and some of the DLC’s highlights together of course with Jason Momoa and his LEGO minifigure counterpart.

The LEGO DC Super-Villains Aquaman Movie DLC adds six level packs and four character packs that includes playable characters based on the upcoming DCEU film such as Aquaman, Black Manta, Mera, Orm, King Nereus, Queen Atlanna and many more. If you already purchased a Deluxe Edition of the game, then the Season Pass together with its DLC (Part 1) are now available to download for free. However, you may also opt to purchase the Aquaman Movie DLC as a separate bundle for $5.99 starting January 8, 2019 when the Aquaman Movie DLC Part 2 rolls out.

The 2018 LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigures (5005256) May Never Come to the US

One of the losses for the American LEGO fandom with the closure of Toys R Us in the US (before its impending return as Geoffrey’s Toy Box) were the special exclusive sets made available during annual events like Bricktober in October. It certainly made acquiring the 2018 edition 4-minifigure sets a chore outside of brief LEGO promotions and other-retailer availability. By these methods, US LEGO fans had some chance of getting either the LEGO Harry Potter Bricktober minifigures (5005254, via Barnes & Noble) or the LEGO Jurassic World (5005255) and LEGO Ninjago (5005257) packs. But there are four Bricktober 2018 sets. So what about the LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigures (5005256)?

Originally promised to be available as promotional items in LEGO Stores as listed on monthly store calendars, the passing of September, October and November without word seems to indicate that at the very least, the LEGO Bricktober Marvel set (5005256) will never reach the US.

Apparently, the LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigure set (5005256) was only conventionally available for purchase at Toys R Us Canada, in all of North America. That pretty much writes off any chance to get it from stateside; so only three of the four Bricktober 2018 sets came through. It’s too bad not getting those uncommon Marvel minifigures of War Machine, Wong, unarmored Tony Stark and the Winter Soldier.

If you’re resigned to this news, and still haven’t gotten the LEGO Harry Potter set (5005254) from B&N, they’ve got their promo going all the way to December 26, meaning no worries on that front.

LEGO Black VIP Cards to Receive a Commemorative Card-Case Stand

Over a year ago, the LEGO Star Wars fandom sort of went bananas with the release of the now-legendary LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (75192). And even non-Star Wars fans might have fancied getting it if only to receive the highly coveted LEGO Black VIP cards.

How fortunate indeed are those members of the LEGO VIP program that managed to get this exclusive card, with its recognizable Millennium Falcon silhouette design. LEGO announced days ago that they will be sending a gift off to all registered black VIP cardholders. Any day now they’ll be receiving an email with a special code to use at Shop@Home to redeem this special VIP gift.

And what a present indeed, for it happens to be a brick-built display frame for LEGO black VIP cards. Able to stand on its own, the frame also includes an all-black minifigure with the Millennium Falcon VIP card design on its front.

This LEGO Star Wars VIP gift, numbered 5005747, will only be available conventionally to recipients of the LEGO black VIP cards via the code sent to them through email. Any non-black VIP members are out of luck outside of secondary market sources. In a way, this gift set makes all the frenzy and mailing hiccups in getting the black VIP card last year all the more worth it.

The LEGO Movie 2’s Sweet Mayhem Alternate Figure Revealed

The LEGO Movie 2 sets are about to be released this month (right after Christmas exactly), and now that LEGO has listed the first wave of sets for this theme at shop.LEGO.com, it seems that more info is coming in regarding one of the film’s mysterious characters. The person of Sweet Mayhem is still shrouded in mystery, but thanks to LEGO Shop@Home, the character under the enigmatic helmet is now revealed.

There are three sets in particular that includes Sweet Mayhem’s minidoll figure. And among these three sets, we get to see her featured at the back portion of some these sets as posted on LEGO’s shopping portal. To be exact, only two out of three sets actually shows Sweet Mayhem with her helmet off, revealing a personality that is both sweet and chaotic at the same time. Take a look below.

Introducing Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi (70824)

115 pieces | Ages 6+ | $9.99 USD

Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship (70830)

500 pieces | Ages 9+ | $69.99 USD

She kinds of remind me of Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck it Ralph in terms of personality. From the looks of it, my guess is that she can be both emphatic and mean at the same time. Will she turn out to be the film’s lead baddie as we thought she will based from the trailer? Will soon find out in February once the film lands in US theaters.

The LEGO Movie 2 is slated to hit theaters on February 9, and voiced by the same awesome artists from the first film such as Chris Pratt (Emmet and Rex Dangervest), Elizabeth Banks (Lucy), and Will Arnett (LEGO Batman) among others.
