It was submitted to LEGO Ideas no later than last year. It earned 10,000 supporters by April 2018. It joined the Ideas First 2018 Review Stage the following month, and was one of two chosen by reviewers for production, come October. The official set was teased last week, and it was even showcased in the recent New York Toy Fair.
We’re of course talking about LEGO Ideas Flintstones, based on an original submission by Andrew Clark. Set 21316, now listed online at Shop@Home, is scheduled to be released on the first of March. But for LEGO VIP members, say “YABBA-DABBA-DOO!”
That’s right: LEGO Ideas Flintstones (21316) can now be had early by LEGO fans on the VIP program. Considering the timetable, it puts them at just over a week ahead of regular buyers who will need to wait until next month; it’s not much of an advantage, but who can say no to early availability?
At 748 pieces for US$59.99 the LEGO Ideas Flintstones set (21316) is a good deal for both Ideas collectors and fans of good old TV animation and Hanna-Barbera. Four other major regions of Shop@Home – Canada (Eng/Fr), UK, Metropolitan France and Germany – also have it ready for interested LEGO VIP members.
Print media, as we have talked about before, is one of the integral components of a “complete” LEGO experience. This is most particular when the LEGO material in question is reference books. Thanks to their publishing partnership with UK label Dorling-Kindersley (DK), there’s always been a number of “visual dictionaries” coming out every year, detailing current LEGO product lines from sets to the collectible minifigures.
Well, way back in July of the year before, LEGO and DK announced that the latter’s “LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary” was going to get a new edition. The book originally came out in 2009 and again in 2014 as the “Updated and Expanded” version.
In the same vein as so many LEGO hardbound volumes, the upcoming “LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary New Edition” will come with an exclusive character minifigure. Readers have had their time speculating who it might be all the rest of year 2018; now, Amazon has revealed who that character is.
The global online retail giant has added new information and images to their item listing for the new visual dictionary. For a brief period, their shot of the front cover showed the included minifigure to be First Order trooper-turned-Resistance fighter Finn, suited in the bacta tank as seen in his first appearance in “The Last Jedi,” healing from his injuries sustained during “The Force Awakens.”
Amazon must have realized that the cover photo was a spoiler, and has since replaced it with a blacked-out minifigure version. Thankfully other LEGO news sources have caught it before the change; this image down below is courtesy of Brickset.
Quite obviously, the additional content added to the “LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary New Edition” covers the new Disney-Lucasfilm media: “The Force Awakens,” “The Last Jedi,” and even “Solo.” The volume will be released this coming April, but an Amazon preorder now will shave 33% off the $14.71 price listed.
Ask fans who keep up to speed with LEGO news which new licensed property that they make sets for now stands out the most, and maybe they’ say it’s “Overwatch,” the awesome multiplayer first-person “hero” shooter from Blizzard Entertainment. The new sets they announced last year, now all available for purchase at the usual channels, have been remarkably popular sellers.
In fact, they’re so sought-after that certain retailers carrying them have thrown discount sales for their LEGO Overwatch sets. Amazon in particular has decided that it’ll join in on the fun, with the recent release of a new patch that adds Paris as a multiplayer assault map on the game.
You can check out Amazon’s LEGO Overwatch price cuts right here, but we’ll help out by enumerating the current discount rates for the available sets right now. Some of the products might have already had reduced prices before, but have been trimmed even further now:
Tracer vs. Widowmaker (75970) – 129-piece set for US$12, down from $14.99
Hanzo vs. Genji (75971) – 197-piece set for US$15.51, down from $15.99
Dorado Showdown (75972) – 419-piece set for US$23.99
D.Va and Reidhardt (75973) – 455-piece set for US$30, down from $39.99
Bastion (75974) – 602-piece set for US$39.99, down from $55.95
Watchpoint: Gibraltar (75975) – 730-piece set for $72.00, down from $99.50
Omnic Bastion (75987) – 182-piece set for $35, all the way down from $51
With that down, we’ll leave you guys with this quirky LEGO Overwatch video from the company itself on their official YouTube channel. If you need further confirmation that the “Overwatch” game is big, and the LEGO Overwatch line of sets is hot, then watch this video and believe.
Kind of makes you want a “LEGO Overwatch Movie/Series,” huh?
In the latter half of 2018, LEGO made quite the splash for Halloween with a lineup of brick and minifigure-themed costumes for children and adults. That was the most prominent push by LEGO into wearable apparel that we have recently covered here in The Brick Show.
But it looks like our favorite toy brand giant has even more in store where it comes to clothing, one that they are combining with, of all things, augmented reality tech with help from social media platform Snapchat. The result is a most unusual clothes store that opened in London before London Fashion Week.
As reported by CNBC, the strange LEGO pop-up shop that was launched this Wednesday, February 13, is actually an empty white room in London. The only feature is a pedestal with a physical icon familiar to Snapchat users: a Snapcode. Scanning that code takes users to an AR platform on their devices where they can buy online a selection of LEGO-themed street wear by the company’s latest garments partner, KABOOKI.
Here we have a sample of the new LEGO casual fashion line from KABOOKI, designed as scaled-up versions of LEGO Wear clothes for kids. This was confirmed by KABOOKI’s Birgitte Holgaard Langer, who added that they also wanted to experiment with an AR platform provided by Snapchat to make their clothing available for purchase online.
Why have Snapchat as a partner for hosting the digital AR LEGO Store? Snap Inc. Director EMEA Creative Strategy Will Scougal says that it’s because the users of their social media platform are among the most frequent users of augmented reality around.
“Snapchatters engage with AR naturally, on average 70% of them play with an AR lens every day,” Scougal explains. Adding an e-commerce element to create the LEGO-KABOOKI online store seems the logical conclusion.
The best part about this LEGO clothing store on Snapchat is that prospective customers don’t even need to go to that empty shop in London. Snap Inc. has saved us the trouble with this photo of the AR store’s Snapcode. Snapchat-using LEGO fans have nothing to lose and perhaps some sweet new LEGO-wear to gain just by checking this out.

LEGO has just released a designer video that focuses on its next big set: the LEGO Movie 2 Welcome to Apocalypseburg! (70840). Designers James Ramsden (Senior LEGO Designer), Mike Patton (Graphic Designer), and Ruth Kelly (Element Designer) shared their thoughts as they collaborated in making this awesome set. Watch this.
One of the things that Ramsden highlighted are the multiple rooms in the Welcome to Apocalypseburg! set that showcases how life drastically changed for the citizens of Bricksburg after the invasion of the Duplons. It was a bit of a challenge for them on how to convey this tough, wasteland life while at the same time keeping things more or less familiar to LEGO fans. There’s still the same iconic Coffee Unchained coffee shop where overpriced coffee is still served, though by the less friendly and more tough-looking Larry the Barrista. You also have Surfer Dave and his camper van which is now used as a prop to help the statue stand up on its own. Batman and his daily workout routine at the gym which is actually an old, worn out train, and other locations that are all nicely included in this mammoth-sized set. Needless to say, it’s a carefully planned set where designers thoughtfully planted as many surprises as they can. They even managed to hide a reference that alludes to their favorite chicken parmesan dish.
The choice of minifigures that were included is as excellent as the build itself. The set boasts of 12 minifigures, all new for 2019: we have Emmet, Lucy, Batman, Scribble Cop, Suicide Squad-inspired Harley Quinn (which is unique only this set), Green Lantern, Where Are My Pants Guy, Larry the Barista, Chainsaw Dave, Mohawk, Roxxi and Fuse. One of the more interesting detail about this minifigures has something to do with Larry the Barista’s tattoos. According to Mike, Larry’s tattoos are the same as that of actor Chris McKay who voiced Larry in the first LEGO Movie. Now that’s one cool shout out for an actor.
James also described how the LEGO Movie 2 Welcome to Apocalypseburg! set offers plenty of LEGO pieces that LEGO fans would love to have. He underscored the set’s generous use of sand green and sun blue elements which are kind pretty cool actually to be used in LEGO MOCs. The set also features new pieces such Batman’s armor made of tire wheels, Lucy’s new goggles, a Mohawk hair accessory, and a barbed wire element just to name a few. The Welcome to Apocalypseburg! set also has plenty of easter eggs, or hidden references to watch out for. One of which is Scribble Cop’s chair-kicking play feature which is a cool reference to the first LEGO film. The set also features plenty of references to the LEGO Batman and LEGO Ninjago movies as well.
Lastly, I couldn’t help but notice this nagging feeling every time I see this particular set displayed in the background. I know that this might as well be one of the designer’s early concept models for the Welcome to Apocalypseburg! set (which is anywhere between 30 to 40 iterations as disclosed by James), but it is a good candidate to be a follow-up set, very much the same as how LEGO did it with the LEGO Ninjago City (70620) and the LEGO Ninjago City Docks (70657). I know that this might be a long shot, but it’s a cool thing to have this nice Mad Max-styled diner alongside the Welcome to Apocalypseburg! set. What do you think?
We’re just three days away before the LEGO Movie 2 hits theaters worldwide this Friday, and adding this set to your LEGO collection is a great way to add some LEGO Movie fun to them. The LEGO Movie 2 Welcome to Apocalypseburg! set is now available at shop.LEGO.com together with the rest of the TLM2 sets, with more sets to be revealed later in the second half of the year.
In case you missed it, the LEGO Movie 2 Welcome to Apocalpyseburg (70840) set is now available online and in LEGO brand stores starting this February. As the LEGO Movie 2’s first, direct-to-consumer set, the Welcome to Apocalypseburg comes in at 3,178 pieces, 12 minifigures and tons of play features for virtually each section of this massive build. It retails for $299.99 in the US and you can purchase it online at shop.LEGO.com
This month also marks the release of the much-anticipated LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023). LEGO fans are looking forward to this collection, particularly for the Wizard of Oz characters that are included in this first wave of TLM2 CMF offering. This newest series of collectible minifigures features 20 minifigs, which are quite easy to catch if you ever happen to stumble on a newly opened box. We know for a fact that this might be the easiest CMF series to collect and complete, considering that each row of 20 minifigure blind bags gives you a complete set of the characters included in this first wave of TLM2 minifigs. Each blind bag retails for $3.99 in the US.
As an added bonus and in celebration of the Lunar New Year, LEGO has already announced its new promotional LEGO Year of the Pig (40186). From today and until Thursday, February 7, any single receipt, minimum purchase of any LEGO products worth $88 and above, entitles you to this exclusive seasonal set. As of this posting, this latest promotional is still up, and is available upon checkout at store.LEGO.com.
2019 is hailed as the Year of the Earth Pig in the Chinese calendar, and LEGO is now commemorating this in its newest promotional set, now live across LEGO brand stores and at shop.LEGO.com. The LEGO Year of the Pig (40186) set is the next promotional item that you can get for a minimum single receipt purchase of $88 and more of any LEGO set or products. This promo has already begun yesterday and will end on February 7 next week or until supplies last, so it’s promo duration is kind of relatively short-lived.
The LEGO Year of the Pig (40186) comes in 152 pieces and is valued for approximately $9.99. Like previous Chinese New Year LEGO promotional, the LEGO Year of the Pig set features a comical, brick-built figure of a pig that comes with poseable ears, arms, and tail. The set also sports a unique 2×2 round, flat tile that represents a snout, which is a new for 2019 piece exclusive to this set. I also like the use of the 2×2 round, flat tiles for the pair of eyes which you can adjust for any kind of wacky expressions. The articulation on the arms adds a sense of humor and character to this build, though I’m not quite sure if the legs are jointed as well based on these images.
If you want to add this to your collection of LEGO Chinese New Year sets, then be sure to set your LEGO purchases throughout this week. LEGO has also released a collection of regional exclusive LEGO sets such as the Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner (80101) and Dragon Dance (80102).
Happy building and a prosperous New Year to everyone!
LEGO has a new promotional offer that makes the LEGO Movie 2 experience more awesome. For a minimum, single receipt purchase worth $40 and more, you’ll get three free packs of the LEGO Movie 2 Trading Cards featuring your favorite minifigure characters in the film. Each pack contains four cards, including one special foil card. There are a total of 36 cards to collect. As of this posting, these promotional trading cards are not for sale, though shop.LEGO.com lists them with a $2.99 value per pack. Doing the math, it means that you need to get all 9 packs in order to complete this trading collection (which you can get if you make a total of $120 worth of LEGO products), and this is if you don’t pick up duplicate copies since they are placed in blind foil packs.
LEGO VIP members also get an additional perk in the form of a free collector album with purchases worth $15 and above. The LEGO Movie 2 Trading Cards promotional started today and will run until February 24, or until supplies last. Though this is not the first time that LEGO launched a collectible trading card series with the introduction of the LEGO Create the World Collectible Trading Cards featuring 140 cards in all, the conditions and time frame in which the LEGO Movie 2 trading cards are offered is somehow falling short. Considering that you need to spend more than a hundred dollars in order to complete all 36 cards, without duplicates, and only within a one-month period is quite challenging.
FREE THE LEGO® MOVIE 2™ Trading Card! (5005775)
Get three free packs of your favorite characters and collect all 36! Look for special foil cards in each pack. LEGO® VIPs can add the cards to their free collector album with purchases over $15! Each album includes an exclusive VIP card, details from the movie and quotes from the characters. Offer Details: Valid 01/16/19 through 11:59pm EST, 02/24/19 or while supplies last only; available on shop.LEGO.com and at LEGO Stores.
I’m not much into trading cards, but since this is a freebie then I have no complaints about it. However for completionists, getting all these cards might prove to be a challenge. For the complete line of LEGO Movie 2 sets currently being offered, be sure to visit shop.LEGO.com for more details. The LEGO Movie 2 CMF (71023) series will also be available starting February 1, so you may want to check out on this well.
LEGO has officially revealed the upcoming LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) via its Facebook page. We are also aware that each box contains 60 minifigures, however, we don’t have an inkling on how the 20 minifigures in the series are distributed. Much so if LEGO opted to throw in a certain chase minifigure, similar to what it did with the LEGO Movie CMF Series 18 (71021) Classic Policeman minifig. But thanks to PromobricksandBrickSanity, we now have an idea about the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) box distribution, and how many complete sets can we get out of each box.
Thankfully, it is confirmed that there are three complete sets included in each box of 60 minifigures. And to make it even easier, Promobricks has also confirmed that each row of 20 minifigs corresponds exactly to one complete series, virtually removing any efforts of feeling your way through each blind bag if ever you can get your hands on an unopened box. This is a much-welcomed gesture from LEGO, and as far as I remember a first one of sorts.
One thing that you’ll notice is that the blind bag for the LEGO Movie 2 CMF is also considerably larger than its predecessors, similar to the size of the LEGO Unikitty Collectible Figures (41775). Furthermore, according to Promobricks, the material used for the blind bag is somewhat thinner than before which makes feeling your way through each minifigure relatively easier.
Since the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) box distribution has already been revealed, making it much easier to acquire a complete set, we can expect a lot of LEGO collectors rushing their way to LEGO Stores at the end of the month to be one of the firsts to get an unopened box. The LEGO Movie 2 CMF (71023) is not yet listed at shop.LEGO.com, but you can bet that some LEGO physical stores already have them stocked in their storerooms.
