The LEGO Movie 2 Sweet Mayhem’s Pod (853875) Revealed

Hot on the heels of the LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Pod (853874), the same Promobricks reader who shared images of this newest collectible set, has also revealed that the LEGO Movie 2 theme will not have one, but two LEGO pods as well. Thanks again to Promobricks, we now have our first look at the LEGO Movie 2 Sweet Mayhem’s Pod (853875).

853875 1

853875 2

853875 3

Coming in at 28 pieces, the LEGO Movie 2 Sweet Mayhem’s Pod (853875) comes in a white-colored pod with, of course, Sweet Mayhem herself. The pod also sports a lenticular front panel showing the LEGO Movie 2 title and an image of Sweet Mayhem with her helmet on. I’m curious though on why LEGO did not opt to include Mayhem’s helmet in this particular pod, choosing instead to include her pony-tailed hair accessory.

853875 4

853875 5

853875 6

The special parts included in the pod itself are quite interesting: from the heart-shaped plate to several clips and hinges. I’m not really sure what the pod is trying to replicate with these very limited parts – it may be like a mini-cockpit of some sorts, but I’ll leave this to your imagination on trying to figure this one out.

853875 7

Similar to the Emmet’s Pod, the LEGO Movie 2 Sweet Mayhem’s Pod (853875) was accidentally released earlier than expected, with several displayed sets immediately returned to the storeroom until their official release date sometime in February. Unlike Emmet’s minifigure which you can practically get from almost all LEGO sets, the Sweet Mayhem’s Pod (853875) offers a good opportunity to get this particular minidoll version without breaking the bank. An alternate version of Sweet Mayhem, where she particularly wears a helmet, can be found in the following sets: Introducing Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi (70824); Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship! (70830); and MetalBeard’s Heavy Metal Motor Trike! (70834).

Once again, a big thanks to Promobricks for sharing these images.

LEGO Introduces its First LEGO Minecraft Steve and Creeper (30393) Polybag

LEGO Minecraft is here to stay this 2019! And other than the introduction of new, larger buildable figures of Steve, Alex, and a Minecraft Skeleton, LEGO now introduces its very first LEGO Minecraft polybag with the Steve and Creeper (30393) polybag set. This particular polybag adds to the roster of other sets due to be released this year – particularly those coming from the LEGO City, LEGO Movie 2, and LEGO Marvel themes – whose building instructions were found online by Brickset.

30393

This is a very welcomed gesture from LEGO since the Minecraft theme has been sorely lacking from polybags since its introduction 6 years ago. The LEGO Minecraft Steve and Creeper (30393) polybag features the typical Steve with a sword accessory, and a Creeper minifig, including a buildable TNT box. This simple build also comes with a play feature that allows builders to ‘launch’ the TNT by pushing a lever connected to a Technic pin. Like any other polybag set, this is also a great opportunity to have these two LEGO Minecraft minifigures added to your collection without breaking the bank. For your reference, here are the building instructions for this polybag.

Details are scant though as of this posting, regarding the availability of the LEGO Minecraft Steve and Creeper (30393) polybag, and my guess is that it may be a part of an upcoming promotional at LEGO stores and LEGO Shop@HOme. I’ll keep you posted as more info comes in. Be sure to check out as well the rest of this year’s LEGO Minecraft sets. Just click on the links below for more info at shop.LEGO.com

2019 LEGO Catalog International Version Now Available Online

It’s this time of the year when you can expect the 2019 LEGO Catalog to be rolling out in LEGO brand stores. And in case you haven’t received your copy yet, LEGO has been kind enough to upload a PDF version of this catalog, highlighting more than a hundred sets to watch out for in this first half of 2019. This may not be something new for some of us, given that there are those who managed to have a copy of this catalog ahead of LEGO uploading its online version. Nevertheless, it’s still nice that this is now made available for everyone to see. You may either view or download a copy of the 2019 LEGO Catalog right here.

EN MEA 1

If you have a copy already, let’s take a moment to look at some of its highlights, and of what to expect from LEGO starting this January.

To start with, LEGO is understandably keen in heavily promoting its brick-built film. Gracing the cover of the 2019 LEGO Catalog are none other than the main characters of the LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. The table of contents underscores LEGO’s preference to present their new sets and product in a developmental fashion starting with the LEGO Duplo and Juniors line. Though the latter will eventually be replaced by the new 4+ theme, LEGO is still giving some room for some newer LEGO Juniors sets.

LEGO has also confirmed what we have shared before last November that indeed, Disney and LEGO have teamed up once again to come with another wave of Pixar inspired sets. Toy Story 4 is still far off slated to be released in theaters on June 21, so the details about these LEGO tie-in sets is still under wraps to avoid unintended film spoilers. What we are sure about these upcoming sets, as the 2019 LEGO Catalog suggests, is that it will be released under the 4+ and Duplo themes.

EN MEA 18

LEGO Disney Princess is also here to stay, with LEGO adding a “Build and Swap” play feature similar to modular sets.

EN MEA 31

LEGO Friends also introduces another novelty set with its Heart Box series. This series of stackable builds features minidoll versions of Andrea, Emma, Stephanie, Olivia, and Mia. Each set also doubles as a sort of a keepsake holder where you can keep each minidoll and other related accessories.

EN MEA 33

The heroic firefighters and aerial police of LEGO City take center stage in this first wave of 2019 LEGO City sets. This newest collection highlights new for 2019 features such as a 3-stud multi-shot water cannon, a water pump that launches LEGO water elements, floating minifigure parachute, and the return of the light and sound brick as demonstrated in the new Downtown Fire Brigade (60216) and Sky Police Air Base (60210).

EN MEA 45

And of course, the current CMF rave is still looking more awesome in the 2019 LEGO Catalog – the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023). What makes this latest CMF series more exciting is the inclusion of the main Wizard of Oz characters and several costumed minifigs. While the LEGO Movie 2 CMF is expected to hit LEGO Stores sometime next month, the 2019 LEGO Catalog already teased on the arrival of the LEGO CMF Series 19 sometime in May. Expect more news to come in about this next wave of collectible minifigures as early as next month, especially that the Nuremberg and New York Toy Fairs are just around the corner. For the rest of the LEGO Movie 2 tie-in sets, be sure to visit LEGO Shop@Home for details.

EN MEA 56

And of course, the epic conclusion to the finger-snapping catastrophe that Thanos brought to the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe will finally be revealed in Avengers: Endgame scheduled to be in theaters this April. The LEGO Marvel fandom can hardly wait on what LEGO has in store to celebrate the release of this grand film. Suffice it to say, LEGO and Disney are keeping a tight lid on any potential spoilers (which often comes from other third-party resellers) that may come along. So for the time being, the 2019 LEGO Catalog only has a single page, “Avengers Coming Soon” reminder for all of us. Perhaps the upcoming Toy Fairs hold the keys to unlocking these secrets – we just have to wait and see.

EN MEA 65

Aside from what was mentioned above, there are a great number of sets that you may want to watch out for this January. Racing from the Speed Champions theme, I do hope to get the 1967 Mini Cooper S Rally and 2018 MINI John Cooper Works Buggy (75894). If you’re a fan of the classic LEGO Ninjago sets, then you’ll definitely don’t want to miss out on the new LEGO Ninjago Legacy series, particularly Cole’s Earth Driller (70669). LEGO Star Wars fans are also in for a treat with LEGO’s new wave of Microfighters Series 6 – the Escape Pod vs. Dewback Microfighters (75228) is definitely a must-have for me. Finally, LEGO Technic is still going strong this year with an impressive number of new sets kick-starting 2019. I’m not really a fan of the larger Technic sets, but I like the idea behind the Getaway Truck (42090) and Police Pursuit (42091), and how they get to be combined together similar to 2018’s WHACK! (42072) and BASH! (42073).

75894 1
1967 Mini Cooper S Rally and 2018 MINI John Cooper Works Buggy (75894)

So there you have it – the 2019 LEGO Catalog from January to June sure has plenty of sets to offer to everybody. With more than a hundred sets to choose from during this first half of the year, it’s a bit of a challenge to zero in on that one set that will top your LEGO “must have” list. Which among these will top your own list? Let me know in the comments below.

LEGO has finally released a stash of official images and complete product description of the mammoth LEGO Movie 2 Welcome to Apocalypseburg set (70840). True enough, it was on eBay where we first spotted this earlier last month (the post was eventually taken down as of this writing), while at the same time, a certain YouTuber is now exploiting a technical-legal loophole that allows him to keep his review video up in the video sharing platform in spite of the embargo mandated by LEGO. Amazon Australia Names LEGO as The Best-Selling Toy Brand During The Holiday Season

It’s now the post-Christmas period of the overall year-end Holiday season. As the days count down to the end of 2018, businesses and retailers start taking stock of their earnings even as they fire off some last-minute promo or other. And LEGO, according to Amazon Australia, was a major seller. The Australian arm of the global online retail giant Amazon has reported some new records in terms of online shopping following the major December Holiday occasions of Christmas and Boxing Day 2018. According to their estimates for the past several weeks, LEGO was deemed Amazon Australia’s best-selling toy brand overall.

Amazon_AU_logo._CB1198675309_.jpg

To further elaborate, among the most sought-after LEGO products in the year-end rush that endeared LEGO to be the best-selling toy brand are sets from the LEGO Harry Potter and Star Wars themes, both licensed LEGO lines that have had major set releases in this year, including the massive Hogwarts Castle (71043) and the Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (75212).

71022

And on Amazon Australia’s Boxing Day Sale event, the best-selling toy was the LEGO Minifigures Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Collectible Series (71022). It just goes to show how strong the LEGO fandom is down under. One can optimistically hope that the same goes for LEGO in other Amazon markets.

Some Formerly-Exclusive LEGO Polybags Now Seen Conventionally Available on Retailers

With the Holiday season rolling into what could be termed its final phases, LEGO is pulling out all the stops in order to get their products out to consumers, from the big box sets to the little plastic polybags with their simple builds. And some of these used to be difficult to find in stores.

To elaborate, some of the LEGO polybags that are now finding on retail shelves used to be exclusive items at either Shop@Home or other sources. For example, the LEGO City Arctic Ice Saw (30360) was initially only ever packaged with an issue of Nat Geo Kids Magazine over in the UK, but has now been spotted for sale at Wal-Mart.

legocity30360

Next we have the LEGO Friends Friendship Flower (30404) polybag. Original part of a “gift with minimum-purchase” offer at Shop@Home this February, it apparently became available on Toys R Us before its mid-year shutdown. Target stores now have it available.

legofriends30404

Last but not least, there is the LEGO Creator Pelican (30571), a polybag featuring 62 pieces that can be assembled into three possible configurations, all of animals. Like the Friends Friendship Flower (30404) above, one might be able to find this on Target.

These LEGO polybag sightings were courtesy of a regular follower on our fellow LEGO news source The Brick Fan; kudos to them.
