A Look at the LEGO Wizarding World Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures (71022) Box Distribution

Here’s a timely update on what we’ve learned so far about this next big CMF craze. Following LEGO’s official reveal of the highly anticipated LEGO Wizarding World Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures (71022) a couple of weeks ago, there were earlier impressions that these J.K. Rowling inspired characters will be somehow equally represented among 60 blind bags that each box has.

71022

However, according to Brickset guru CapnRex101, this next CMF series will consist of certain rare figures and one chase minifigure per box very much similar to what LEGO did with the LEGO CMF Series 18 with its Classic Police Officer minifig.  Here’s a breakdown of the LEGO Wizarding World Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures (71022) box distribution:

banner 71022 01

Harry Potter:
  • 3 – Harry Potter (Hogwarts Uniform)
  • 3 – Hermione Granger
  • 3 – Ron Weasley
  • 3 – Draco Malfoy
  • 3 – Neville Longbottom
  • 3 – Cho Chang
  • 3 – Dean Thomas
  • 3 – Lord Voldemort
  • 3 – Dobby
  • 3 – Cedric Diggory
  • 3 – Filius Flitwick
  • 3 – Mad-Eye Moody
  • 3 – Albus Dumbledore
  • 2 – Luna Lovegood
  • 2 – Sybil Trelawney
  • 2 – Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak)
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them:
  • 3 – Newt Scamander
  • 3 – Porpentina Goldstein
  • 3 – Jacob Kowalski
  • 3 – Queenie Goldstein
  • 2 – Credence Barebone
  • 1 – Percival Graves

As you can see from the above list provided by Brickset, the chase minifigure from this series will be the dubious Percival Graves. For a while there I thought that the chase minifigure will be Harry with his Invisibility Cloak. Rumors regarding the inclusion of a chase minifig in this series were circulating around LEGO fan forums for quite some time. Personally, I feel that there are a lot of better candidates to have a chase minifig other than Percival Graves. I guess I will not really understand LEGO’s decision on this one.

71022 22
Percival Graves will be the chase minifigure in the LEGO Wizarding World Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures (71022).

Looking further on the list, we will also see that the characters of Luna Lovegood, Sybil Trelawney, Harry Potter (with Invisibility Cloak) and Credence Barebone only has 2 minifigures for each them, leaving any LEGO CMF completionist having only 2 complete sets per box – less Percival graves of course. With such limited box distribution, I strongly feel that the cost for one complete set of this CMF series will be considerably higher in the aftermarket as compared to other LEGO CMF series before it. I guess we just have to wait and see.

The LEGO Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures (71022) are slated to be released in August across LEGO Stores and at shop.LEGO.com.

LEGO Announces Its Next SDCC 2018 Exclusive: The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Ant-Man and the Wasp (75997)

In case you missed this one, LEGO has revealed via its Facebook and Twitter its next LEGO San Diego Comic Con exclusive set as a tribute to MCU’s tiniest heroes. The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Ant-Man and the Wasp (75997) features an impressive brick-built bust of Ant-Man and a Wasp minifigure. The latter being the indentical Wasp minifigure as seen in Quantum Realm Explorers (76109). Coming in at 218 pieces, this limited-edition Ant-Man bust is scaled nicely to make the Wasp look like what she is in proportion to her counterpart.

75997

Similar to other 2018 SDCC exclusive LEGO sets such as the Millennium Falcon Cockpit (75512) and Aquaman and Storm (75996), the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Ant-Man and the Wasp (75997) comes in a video cassette-style packaging, with a classic, comic-book style box art.

75997

As we reported earlier, the above-mentioned sets will be available for purchase via a lottery system once SDCC 2018 kicks in on July 20. Other than these exclusive LEGO sets, we are still eagerly waiting for the reveal of three LEGO exclusive minifigures all from the LEGO Movie 2, DC and Marvel Superheroes respectively.

Lastly, in case you are similarly impressed with this brick-built bust of Ant-Man, then you may also want to check Build Better Bricks excellent collection of custom LEGO Marvel character busts designed by our resident master builders Tyler and Sean. For a very minimal amount, you may purchase the building instructions to create these LEGO custom busts together with its respective parts list which you can easily export to Bricklink for a more convenient way to purchase the necessary LEGO pieces to build them.

Rumor: Reissues of First Two Set Seasons of LEGO Ninjago Coming

LEGO Ninjago is gearing up to have the ninth season of its animated series start airing this year (the earliest known premiere date being June 30 on Australian TV). It’s therefore surprising when rumors started popping up about the next upcoming Ninjago sets: there’s nothing “new”, they will be rereleases.

This loud speculation sprang out from a post on the discussion forums of Eurobricks just this Wednesday, July 4. The poster, Eurobricks Vassal Bentonton, noted that an anonymous LEGO dealer told him that the company was planning a reissue of all LEGO Ninjago sets included in seasons 1 and 2.

Specific details provided by this unnamed source have some of the sets and minifigures alleged to be coming back: early Ninjago baddies the Serpentine, the Ninjago dragons and Fire Temple. All this information is nebulous at best, though Bentonton says his LEGO dealer informant has actually ordered said sets already.

With regards to what might change from the original LEGO Ninjago S1-2 set releases to these rumored reissues, the likely path will be that there are going to be cosmetic changes to the brick structure, akin perhaps to the alteration of the exclusive Billund Airport set from original to rerelease.

And what will happen to the Ninjago animated series? There’s also been talk that season 9 could be the conclusion to the whole story. The possibly modernized reissues could either signify that the show’s good to go on for longer, or a last hurrah for a big finale. We really don’t know at the moment.

LEGO Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262) Available for VIP Purchase on July 18

The promotional drive being done by LEGO, Aston Martin and the James Bond film franchise to hype up the upcoming LEGO Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262), has been carried out over the past several days with an amazing precision like an SIS/MI6 operation; and they’ve taken the next step. We already know that there’s going to be a major event to reveal the LEGO Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262) set at London’s Leicester Square LEGO Store on July 18. There’s a theory going around that it won’t only be an unveiling but an actual product launch. This theory’s right.

LEGO VIP members can rejoice at their advance opportunity to get their License to Build ahead of the rest because the Creator Aston Martin (10262) is cleared for purchase by them starting July 18, as confirmed by a flyer screenshot courtesy of news source Promobricks.

LEGO Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262)

True, the exclusivity of 10262 to VIP members is only two weeks long before the set becomes generally available. Still, LEGO’s very encouraging with their customers to sign up to be VIPs, as written in the flyer. It’s free after all. Furthermore, they stand a chance to have their sets autographed.

As the flyer also states, the Leicester Square LEGO Event for the Aston Martin DB5 (10262) will be attended by the design teams from both LEGO and the actual Aston Martin automakers, who will be happy to sign sets for the VIP advance buyers. There’s also talk of a special guest for the occasion.

The most ideal bet for that special guest spot is a Bond actor, probably one who did use the DB5. Guesses range from original driver Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and latest Bond Daniel Craig. We guess the attendees at the Leicester Square debut of 10262 will find out soon enough.

LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie Achieves 10K Votes

After 2 years of gathering fan support and approval, we now have our next candidate to qualify for this year’s LEGO Ideas Review Stage. We followed Steamboat Willie’s development since 2016 and it caught our eye because of the Disney legacy that it alludes to. This LEGO Ideas project by szabomate90 pays tribute to early attempts of Walt Disney to bring cartoon animation to the masses, and now the LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie has garnered the necessary 10K fan support in order to qualify for the 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie

Coming in at 156 LEGO pieces, the set features the iconic Steamboat Willie in its classic monochromatic color scheme, with a similarly colored LEGO Mickey Mouse minifigure. Though I’m glad that this set has made it this far especially after two long years of waiting, I’m quite skeptical if this project will gain the approval of the LEGO Ideas Review Team considering that policy changes in the LEGO fan platform requires that all submitted projects must not be a part of any existing LEGO themes. Since LEGO already has an active of Disney-inspired sets, and even has an existing LEGO Mickey Mouse collectible minifigure, I’m not really sure if Steamboat Willie will make it to final cut.

Here’s szabomate90 with more info on his LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie, followed by a feature video about this entry.

Steamboat Willie is the first fully synchronized sound cartoon directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks.

It was the debute of Mickey Mouse in a cartoon the first to be distributed and the third to be produced.

So as an animator and a Lego fan I’d like to pay my respect to that marvelous production, which since was created then inspired a lot of talented artists.

Because Disney Minifigures arrived, I have the luck to create a Mickey Mouse related set with him as well. In addition I repaint the figure to match the original 1928’s appearance.

The model designed to be tiny, easy to build and playable. You can put Mickey Mouse inside the boat also you can play with the cranes.

The LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie is the fourth LEGO Ideas Project that qualifies for the next LEGO Ideas Review Stage together with the International Space Station, SpaceX – The Ultimate Collection, and SpaceX Falcon Heavy.

Limited Edition LEGO 60th Anniversary Commemorative Pen Holder Now Available in LEGO Store Taiwan

The LEGO Store in Taiwan is currently running a promotion from July 6 to August 19 as part of its commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick. The limited edition, LEGO 60th Anniversary Commemorative Pen Holder is a promotional set that comes free for every single receipt purchase of any LEGO sets worth 2,800 TWD and above or roughly 92 USD. This promotional set seems to come with a considerable number of pieces featuring a brick-built pen holder that resembles a yellow 2X4 LEGO brick, a space to hold other smaller items, and a mobile phone stand. The announcement for the said promotional was made via LEGO Store Taiwan’s official Facebook page.

pen holder

Perhaps what could be the best part of this set is the inclusion of the 60 Years commemorative 2×4 plate which is only found in the recent LEGO Classic Building Bigger Thinking sets, and the 421-piece 60 Years of the LEGO Brick (40290) promotional set. Having this collectible LEGO piece in another promotional set such as the LEGO 60th Anniversary Commemorative Pen Holder is a very welcomed move. I like the idea of having a brick-built pen holder, much more so as a great way to show your appreciation to the legacy of the LEGO brick. It’s a cool study or work table accessory that any AFOL must have.

I hope that this promotional makes its way to the US and to the rest of the world. LEGO stores and their affiliates in Asia often run their own promotional sets and contest prizes that I wish were available elsewhere. One example is last year’s TRU Singapore’s exclusive giant minifigure holder/display that can hold 20 minifigures on display, which is a great way to flaunt those 2017 TRU Bricktober collectible minifigs.

Thanks to Promobricks for the heads up.

LEGO Formally Announces Its First Plant-Based Set: the LEGO Plants for Plants (40320)

Earlier this year, LEGO has announced its commitment in helping to curb climate change by reducing their company’s environmental impact. One of the many ways they managed to do this is through the use of a special kind of plastic made out of plant-based components to be used in creating future LEGO bricks and pieces. Though not entirely biodegradable, these new LEGO pieces are made from sustainable sourced sugarcane which means that the impact to the environment caused by producing these bricks will be significantly lower as compared to their usual methods of creating ABS plastic. The LEGO Group is committed in moving towards this direction, and  as scheduled, has now rolled out its very first plant-based product which is aptly named, LEGO Plants for Plants (40320).

LEGO Plants for Plants

Beginning in August, LEGO fans can now have their first set of environment-friendly LEGO pieces in the form of the LEGO Plants for Plants (40320). As mentioned in the LEGO Store August Calendar, this set of LEGO botanical pieces consisting of grass, shrubs, and leaves will be available as a gift with purchase set for every single receipt purchase of any LEGO products worth $35 and above. The set contains 29 plant pieces made of bright lime green and classic green colors.

40320

This very first plant-based set marks LEGO’s first steps of making all of its core products (which means all LEGO plastic pieces) and packaging made out of sustainable materials by year 2030. Here’s a press release from LEGO regarding the LEGO Plants for Plants (40320) set, followed by a cool video that highlights LEGO’s mission and commitment of making sustainable plastic bricks.

The new plant-based LEGO elements will begin appearing in LEGO boxes throughout 2018. The new plant-based elements are drawn from the botanical range of LEGO elements – including trees, leaves and bushes- and are made from a plastic produced using sustainably sourced sugarcane, plants from plants!

Some of the botanical LEGO elements are available for the first time in brilliant lime green colour, as well as the classic LEGO green. The elements are compatible with the first ever LEGO bricks made 60 years ago and are an example of the LEGO Group’s continued commitment to innovation while staying true to the quality, play experience and durability that is at the heart of the LEGO system.

The plastic used to make the elements is polyethylene, a soft, durable and flexible plastic made from sustainably sourced sugarcane, in accordance with guidance from the Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance (BFA) and third party certified global standards. The new elements are technically identical to existing LEGO botanical elements and have been tested to ensure the sustainably sourced plant-based plastic meets the high standards for quality and safety that the LEGO Group has, and consumers expect from LEGO products.

The new plant-based LEGO elements will begin appearing in LEGO boxes throughout 2018.

We surely support LEGO on this responsible move, and we are thankful to have toy companies who are mindful of their role towards a healthier and greener environment.

LEGO Friends Pet Go-Kart Racers (5005238) Polybag Spotted in Hungary

LEGO Friends has recently included a new line of sets that saw the girls from Heartlake City take on the sport of go-kart racing. These new sets  had the line’s cast of characters take up go-karting, with appropriate minidolls and set designs. As it turns out, the go-karting craze for LEGO Friends isn’t quite over with these five sets just yet. One new product has been spotted that hasn’t been trumpeted over the major LEGO sites yet. It’s a polybag that works on a silly yet fun concept: the LEGO Friends Pet Go-Kart Racers (5005238).

First spotted on the LEGO Certified Store in Hungary by German LEGO news source Zusammengebaut, the LEGO Friends Pet Go-Kart Racers (5005238) polybag means exactly what it says. It contains two go-karts, two pets (a rabbit and hamster), a fold-up cardboard ramp and a sticker sheet for general use (not decals).

5005238

This sort of polybag design usually means that the LEGO Friends Pet Go-Kart Racers (5005238) is only available in LEGO Stores and not on retail outlets. Of course, we still don’t know when this will arrive on LEGO markets outside Hungary, though the likelihood’s good.

It should make for a great supplementary material if you happen to have the other big LEGO Friends go-kart sets, like the  for other LEGO sets in general.

UK’s LEGO Masters Airing Soon In Germany and Australia

LEGO builders in the UK have had the pleasure of having a LEGO-themed reality TV show in the comfort of their homes. Entitled as LEGO Masters, the show is produced by Tuesday’s Child and airing on Channel 4 since its 2017 launch. It’s proven popular enough that two overseas versions are now on their way.

You know a reality TV show is going to be big internationally when its distribution rights are picked up by the Netherlands-based Endemol Shine Group. That major production company is now developing LEGO Masters shows for two countries in two regions: Australia in the Asia-Pacific and Germany in continental Europe.

First announced to go international back in April, the competition-based reality TV show will soon be having local versions airing on both Australia’s major Nine Network and RTL Television in Germany. Just like with the original UK show, the localized LEGO Masters will have contestants building their best LEGO MOCs in a weekly elimination contest format.

LEGO Masters

Endemol Shine CEO Lisa Perrin is confident in her group deciding to launch the LEGO-themed show internationally with localized versions. “LEGO is a globally renowned and much-loved phenomenon that appeals to people of all ages and LEGO Masters most definitely has the same pull,” she said.

In addition, Perrin believes the family-friendly format of the TV contest will catch the attention of German and Australian viewers like it did with British audiences, and more markets could follow with their own versions. The original LEGO Masters show will air a second season on Channel 4 later this year.
