LEGO Officially Announces Star Wars UCS Y-Wing Starfighter (75181), with Photos

You need only to look at their version of the venerable space freighter the Millennium Falcon to know without a doubt, that the Ultimate Collectors Series within the LEGO Star Wars line is one of the most awesome scale models ever. They could even give Japanese plastic models some competition.

On the last day of March, we managed to pick up some of the first images available of the latest LEGO Star Wars UCS model: the Y-Wing Star-fighter (75181). They consisted of photos of the box on a lucky store shelf. This time however, we’ve got more pictures to share.

The official images came in the wake of the formal announcement by LEGO of the UCS Y-Wing (75181). Now, franchise fans who have only followed the movies might remember the Y-Wing as a cannon fodder fighter craft, though its rep is a little bit better in the Expanded Universe/Legends continuity.

Regardless, LEGO’s UCS treatment of this space fighter-bomber is pure technical awesome. The assortment of 1967 bricks and building elements that come together to give form to the Y-Wing makes for one of the best Star Wars ship models yet.

Any mechanical fanatic will appreciate the detailing of the components of UCS Y-Wing (75181), from the placement of the laser turrets and ion cannon on the cockpit block section, to the proton torpedo tubes and the telltale engines. Also notable is the star-fighters color scheme of Gold Squadron from Episode IV – A New Hope, destroyed in the Death Star battle.

Being a Gold Squadron Y-Wing, the model also includes a minifigure of Gold Leader Jon Vander, as well as his trusty astromech droid R2-BHD.

Fun and Frustration: Favorite April Fools’ LEGO News from Last Sunday

We’re well into the first week of April now; that’s two days away from Sunday – Easter to some, April Fools’ Day to many more – when both the real world and the internet can go crazy for a little bit. That’s when some (fun) fake news gets posted online, after all.

Not even the LEGO new community is spared from getting suckered by a whopper or two. Believe me; a few times I started writing articles this Monday, only to stop after discovering the fibs. I figured it might be fun to feature the best April Fools LEGO news this year.

One majorly hilarious offender was LEGO itself, which posted what seemed like their first foray into household appliances with the “VacuSort” brick vacuum cleaner, supposedly able to sort the bricks it sucks up from the floor. To my shame, it being on official LEGO Facebook got me (almost) writing it.

TheBrickFan too had a major April Fools moment with one piece of news that got me genuinely hyped…and crushingly disappointed when I read the end of the article. After all, what collectible hunter wouldn’t be interested about collaboration between LEGO and vinyl figure maker Funko? But it was April Fools’.

LEGO Funko

The next joke LEGO news I’d like to feature comes from Bricks to Life, which may have pulled off the greatest licensed LEGO merchandise gag I’ve yet seen: a LEGO Watchmen videogame from the usual suspects of WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales. Well, it IS a DC title after all.

Finally, Jay’s Brick Blog did an article about another LEGO entry foray, this time into crypto-currency. That’s right; Brickcoin. Then again, having knowledge of Bitcoin’s current status makes this April Fools’ news lose some bite.

There are more of these jokes floating about, but these are my favorites this 2018. Still, I invite you to search around some more to get a few more laughs in, before the week goes on and April 1 is eventually consigned to past memories.

LEGO Harry Potter BrickHeadz are Coming this Fall!

Earlier last month, we mentioned a list of upcoming LEGO BrickHeadz slated this fall, with some of them having set names and numbers that were revealed already. For one, it looks like LEGO is in a roll in offering more sets dedicated to the return of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the more recent Fantastic Beasts series.  This time around, we have confirmation that the hugely popular BrickHeadz line will also carry two familiar characters from the said franchise.

What we know so far based on the set images that we saw, is that there will be two particular LEGO BrickHeadz related to the theme: Harry Potter and Hedwig (41615), and Hermione Granger (41616). These sets are expected to be released sometime this fall. Both sets highlight our classic HP characters during their first days as students of Hogwarts. Set 41615 highlights Harry’s Gryffindor black robe, that comes with a unique 1×1 printed tile for the Gryffindor coat of arms, a printd 1×4 tile for the end portion of his red and yellow scarf, and a wand. The Harry Potter BrickHeadz will also use the newer circular eyeglasses piece which I think was first used in Go Brick Me (41597). Lastly of course, he will also use a unique 1×4 printed tile piece that shows his iconic forehead scar.

Hedwig’s BrickHeadz iteration is not to be outdone either: the snowy white owl seems to use a new kind printed of piece for his wings as well. We’ll confirm this once we have a better image of the set. This version of Hedwig also adds to the roster of LEGO’s ever-growing non-humanoid BrickHeadz builds that LEGO came up with after the official reveal of the Jurassic World Owen and Blue (41614) set.

Hermione Granger (41616) also shows a BrickHeadz version of her during her early years at Hogwarts. It features her gray cardigan and tie uniform (there’s a unique printed tile for her necktie), a spell book and a wand. All in all, this collection of LEGO BrickHeadz took their inspiration from the classic, early years of Harry Potter as we can see below.

We do not have an exact piece count, but we can roughly estimate that the LEGO BrickHeadz Harry Potter and Hedwig (41615) will retail for $15, while Hermione Granger (41616) will sell for $10. Both will be available sometime this fall.

No April Fools! LEGO BrickHeadz: Go Brick Me (41597) Available Now

Nobody expected it when it was first announced: a new LEGO BrickHeadz set that boasts of being the first fully customizable one of its kind. The fact that LEGO announced its release date to be April 1 of all times, made it seem like a joke. But no, it’s real.

Sunday, April 1, marks the release date of LEGO BrickHeadz: Go Brick Me (41597). As stated, it’s a customizable set with 708 pieces to create not just one but two blank BrickHeadz figures, which can then be decorated with even more bricks and accessories, just the way you want it.

And it was no April Fools prank. Go Brick Me (41597) is now listed as being available on several iterations of the LEGO Store: US $29.99, UK £25.99, Canada Ca$39.99, Netherlands €34,99, and 270,00 kr in Denmark. Just from those prices alone, you know you’re getting a 2-for-1 BrickHeadz deal.

41597 1

Of course, even if you don’t happen to like making BrickHeadz, this is still 708 extra pieces that can still go into good use for any of your future MOCs. Other than Go Brick Me (41597), other LEGO BrickHeadz released Sunday are the LEGO Star Wars Solo and Marvel Avengers tie-ins.

Banana Guy Summer Minifigure (5005250) Now Available at Promo in LEGOLAND California

Good things do come to those who wait. Towards the end of last month LEGO new circles picked up on a new promotional minifigure, the Banana Guy, being available on LEGOLAND Billund. Further info revealed its product number (5005250), the promo procedure and its price value, plus some quality photos.

One thing these updates didn’t cover is whether or not Banana Guy (5005250) would be available in other markets, and if so, when. This latest bit of news would be very welcome, as it turns out the promotional minifigure has made it stateside. Eagle-eyed searchers found it at LEGOLAND California.

Here are the specifics: the LEGO promotional minifigure Banana Guy (5005250) is available to all annual pass holders of LEGOLAND California. All they need to do is spend at least $35 on their visit to the theme park and it’s theirs free, one for each holder of an annual pass.

The promo for this summer-themed minifigure will run for the rest of April. According to the news source, any Banana Guys (5005250) left afterwards will be sold over the counter for $5.99 apiece. That way, even non-annual pass holders have a chance at collecting it. It’s probably only a matter of time before the minifigure shows up over at Shop@Home.

I Hope This Is Not An April Fool’s Day Joke: LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (40288) Polybag Promotional Arriving In May

We know that there is a new LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod polybag coming out this April, and it looks like there is another similar polybag all set to go in May. Now to be honest, I’m a little hesitant about posting this piece of news, especially that playful fiction has a tendency to become fact in this day of the year. Nevertheless, there seems to be some grain of truth in what the good guys from Promo Bricks have to say. According to one of their most recent reports – actually it was posted yesterday which gives credence to the idea that this is not probably a part of an elaborate pre-April Fools Day conspiracy – LEGO Star Wars fans can expect BB-8 to make a comeback in a TRU-style microbuild polybag.

If you recall from last October, Toys R Us back then offered a build and take home LEGO BB-8 microbuild to conclude their annual Bricktober celebrations last year (I will certainly miss their Bricktober minifigures for that matter). As I mentioned in that post, I sincerely feel that LEGO and TRU could have improved on this particular LEGO BB-8 microbuild, which quite frankly, looks like an underarm roll-on. Nevertheless, the build itself is pretty solid in terms of design but the lack of aesthetics (i.e. some unique printed parts) is a bit of a let-down and is an injustice against one of the most adorable SW droids around.

lego trumaketake bb8 500
Image courtesy of Rebel Scum. Not actual LEGO BB-8 polybag (40288).

Nevertheless, this news from Promo Bricks, if proven to be true is expected to be of similar build but will have a marked difference. The LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (40288) polybag will have printed parts particularly for the side of its head. Now it is not really uncommon to see BB-8 in brick-build form since we already have the UCS-like LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi BB-8 (75187) set. The challenge therefore is to recreate this set in such a small scale without compromising BB-8’s outstanding features, and the best way to do that is to offer some printed parts.

Admittedly, Promo Bricks does not have the polybag image to share as of the moment, but they promise to give us an update as soon as it is available. Will keep our radars open for this one and will keep you posted as well.

Here’s A Look At The LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod (5005376) Polybag Promotional

DISCLAIMER: This is not in any way related to April Fool’s Day just in case you got overly concerned with my spoiler laden LEGO Marvel Superheroes The Death of Loki set. 😉

Now that April is officially in, LEGO is now geared up for another round of promotional freebies to sweeten your LEGO shopping. Its launching was not that all smooth given the fact that The LEGO Group temporarily suspended the release of this set last December. But thanks to the LEGO Store April Calendar, we’re now sure to expect the much-awaited LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod (5005376) polybag this month. This next LEGO Star Wars promotional gift with purchase set is slated to be given away from April 13 to May 3, with a corresponding LEGO Star Wars purchase of $60 and above.

With that out of the way, eBay reseller princess_789 gives us a first look on how this polybag promo will look like come April 13 in the US. Coming in at 36 pieces, the set comes, of course, with a LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader minifigure, together with gateway like arch with several nice printed pieces.

lego darth vader pod 5

lego darth vader pod 4

Promobricks also managed to share some images that show how the pod looks like from the outside. As mentioned in earlier articles, the pod seems to have a metallic outside casing probably because of its glossy effect and its lenticular printing.

lego darth vader pod 2

lego darth vader pod 3

The fact that this promotional is already in the secondary market is a likely indication that it is now available in US LEGO brand stores and is just awaiting the go signal for distribution. The LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod (5005376) polybag is also a great way to bag the minifig version of the iconic Sith Dark Lord. I really couldn’t figure that much from the polybag image, but it seems to me that this minifigure is a likely combination of two previous Darth Vader releases. For the helmet, the new minifig seems to borrow from 2016’s Vader’s TIE Advanced vs A-Wing Starfighter (75150), while the torso and leg prints seems to suggest a version of Vader from 2014’s Imperial Star Destroyer (75055). Whatever the case is, I’m quite positive that this will be one of the most sought after LEGO pods of all time. What do you think?

What Do You Want To Find This Easter Sunday? Why Not Start With This Brick-Built Crème Egg

While this side of the globe is waking up to the sights and smells of a wonderful Sunday morning, the rest of us are busy preparing for the hustle and bustle of preparing for the time-honored Easter Egg Hunt. For young ones and the young-once, we still get a kick out of the excitement in searching for that egg-shaped goodie with the promise of being handsomely rewarded in the end. For LEGO builder extraordinaire Chris McVeigh, the reward comes in a Brick-Built Crème Egg as you can see from his original creation below.

Creme Egg//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

The moment I first glanced on this set, I have to admit that I was enticed right away on how Chris managed to seamlessly combine the ‘caramel and cream’ LEGO pieces inside this perfectly shaped chocolate egg. For some unknown reason, my mind seems to subliminally tell me that I need to gobble on some chocolate cream eggs right away. I will definitely not mind stumbling on this LEGO chocolate egg this Easter – I just have to remind myself not to eat them.

So in behalf of the entire Brick Show Team…

HAVE A BLESSED EASTER SUNDAY EVERYONE!

LEGO Marvel Superheroes Infinity War The Death of Loki (76110) Set Description Leaked!

This piece of news came in totally unexpected. We’re now just counting the days before MCU’s Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27, and with a slew of LEGO Superheroes Infinity War sets now available, the impression is that LEGO has already revealed everything that is has to offer. However, as it turned out, LEGO is still keeping something under its sleeve. From the same anonymous and reliable source that provided us with the Russian set descriptions of the LEGO Infinity War sets last November, we now have new information that shows another particular set with a lot of spoiler warnings attached to it.

The set in question has been translated roughly from Russian so as to say The Death of Loki (76110). Now that is one heck of a spoiler. According to a rough Google Translation, the set description are as follows:

Send the Hulk back into Earth using the Space Stone and alert the rest of the Avengers! Stand your ground against the Black Order and protect the Space Stone at all cost.

Have Proxima Midnight’s Supernova Spear ready for execution of the Prince of Mischief, while Odin receives his wayward son at Valhalla. What lies ahead for Loki against the might of the Black Order? His fate is for you to decide.

The set comes with the minifigures of Loki, Odin, Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, and Cull Obsidian. Get this set and gather Thanos’ infamous Black Order.

Now if this is indeed confirmed, then this is one awesome set where you can get all the members of the Black Order in just one swoop. This move is unprecedented as far as LEGO is concerned, and it looks like the company’s top brass are being overly generous in offering this one. Traditionally, LEGO has opted to distribute its licensed characters across a good deal of sets in order to entice buyers to purchase almost an entire theme. But with the LEGO Marvel Superheroes Infinity War The Death of Loki (76110) set, you can easily have the entire Black Order gang, plus, a never-before-seen Odin minifigure which I suspect will be on a high demand among collectors.

gallery 1521206234 loki infinity war

Other than the huge number of collectible minifigures that goes along with this set, it seems that this latest LEGO offering is also hinting on the possible death of MCU’s most loved villain. If the Google Translation will be accepted for what it is, then we can expect that we are now seeing the last days of Loki as an MCU character.

According to our source who managed to take a peek the back of the box art as well, there is another surprising piece of info that LEGO was keeping under the lid as far as The Death of Loki (76110) has revealed – the set in itself can be combined with another yet to be disclosed set which is peculiarly among all things, entitled, Faking the Death of Loki (70401) which is a reference to that dramatic scene in Thor: Ragnarok where Matt Damon and Luke Hemsworth played the theatrical roles of Loki and Thor respectively. For what it looks like, the combined sets which features two different versions of Loki, will give a sort of a tribute to the significant contributions of Asgard’s Prince of Trickery in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a last note, our LEGO insider also mentions that because of certain plot points, major spoiler alerts, and the possibility of a very real lawsuit from Disney if these sets go on shelves before the expected date of the film’s release in April, The Death of Loki (76110) set will be released exactly a year from now which is on April 1, 2019.

Well, anything can happen between then and now… but for the meantime, let’s just enjoy a  wonderful Easter Sunday, and an awesome April 1st.  😉

LEGO The Incredibles Video Game Announces Its First DLC

After Warner Bros. Interactive officially announced the arrival of its Disney Pixar inspired video game, it looks like the LEGO Incredibles 2 video game will be getting its very first downloadable content (DLC) at the same time the main game is released. Those who will opt to pre-order the digital version of the game will be treated with a FREE Parr Family Vacation Character Pack DLC currently available for the Xbox, Playstation and Steam (PC). We’re still waiting for Nintendo to confirm this DLC Character Pack for the Switch as of this posting, but I’m pretty sure they will also be including this one since it is not a console exclusive.

Here’s what we know so far about the Parr Family Vacation Character Pack as described on each platform’s online store.

Pre-order now and get early access to the Parr Family Vacation Character Pack! Experience the thrilling adventures of the Parr family as they conquer crime and family life through both Disney-Pixar films The Incredibles and The Incredibles 2, in a LEGO® world full of fun and humor.

LEGO Incredibles 2

Here’s a list of all the expected characters included with this DLC as shared by The Brick Fan.

  • Bob Parr (Vacation)
  • Helen Parr (Vacation)
  • Violet Parr (Vacation)
  • Dash Parr (Vacation)
  • JackJack Parr (Vacation)
  • Lucius Best (Vacation) aka Frozone

One particular point of contention that most veteran LEGO video games aficionados have regarding Incredibles 2  is the fact that the film itself does not necessarily offer much character development, and has a very limited roster of superhero characters. Unlike its hugely successful LEGO video game cousin, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2, this Disney Pixar sequel is seen as not really a fertile ground to spawn new characters unlike the former’s massive collection of over 200+ in-game playable character. Well the truth is, it’s kind of too early to tell if that is really the case with Incredibles 2 so I will suspend my judgment for the time being until the game is out on June 15 alongside its cinematic release.
