The International Space Station Will Be The Next LEGO Ideas Set

After more than 2 weeks of gathering support from the LEGO fan community, the winner of the LEGO Ideas Extraordinary 10 Year Anniversary Fan Vote has been finally revealed. Since May 20, four wildcard entries were selected to vie to become the next LEGO Ideas set on the basis of popular fan support. And although it is with a heavy heart that my favorite blue alien was not voted to be the top choice, I am still glad that the winning entry will give more value to LEGO’s revamped LEGO City Space theme. A big congratulations to the International Space Station by XCLD, for garnering a total of 10,438 votes and now on its way to becoming the next LEGO Ideas set!

International Space Station

With a total of 45.6% share of all the votes cast during the voting period, the International Space Station by XCLD is now on its way to becoming the next LEGO Ideas set which is set to launch in 2020. If there’s any consolation for me and for the rest of those who wish to see Tyler’s (aka legohaulic) creation, I’m glad to see that Disney’s Stitch got the second highest number of votes with 5,739 votes, followed by Sega Classic Arcade Machines by SpacySmoke with 3,788  votes, and Small YELLOW by Nathan Sawaya with 2,924 votes.

In a way, the International Space Station represents what the LEGO community has been looking forward to in a very long time. With the recent announcement of the LEGO City Space sets, together with the LEGO Creator Expert NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander (10266), the International Space Station is like a sort of cherry on top for LEGO Space fans. It is the pinnacle of space exploration and I’m sure that the LEGO Ideas design team will come up with its best version of this winning build.

Again, congratulations to XCLD for a sweeping victory and to all the other contestants who participated.

The LEGO Ideas Second 2019 Review Stage Now Includes Thunderbirds Are Go and Gravity Falls Mystery Shack

In an almost back-to-back triumph, two additional LEGO Ideas projects have now gathered the necessary votes to qualify for the Second 2019 Review Stage. Following the success of the UCS Space Shuttle Atlantis, this original build is now joined by the LEGO Ideas project Thunderbirds Are Go by AndrewClark2, and Figura’s Gravity Falls Mystery Shack.

Thunderbirds Are Go is another LEGO Ideas project from the creative mind of two-time LEGO Ideas winner Andrew Clark. This is the third time that Andrew’s MOC has achieved the coveted 10K support, with his first two projects eventually becoming official LEGO Ideas sets: Doctor Who (21304) and The Flintstones (21316).

thunderbirds are go

The LEGO Ideas project Thunderbirds Are Go is based on the popular British animated series launched in 2015. It takes its cue from the classic Supermarination animated series from the 1960s, giving it a modern twist to appeal to the current generation of sci-fi kid fans. This set features the Thunderbird 2 with its foldable legs, wings, and landing gear plus two smaller vehicles: the Thunderbird 4 and The Mole. It also features the microfigures of the show’s main characters: John, Alan, Scott, Virgil, and Gordon Tracy. Andrew’s choice of using microfigures somehow gives a sense of scale to the entire build.

Second 2019 Review Stage

The next qualifier for the Second 2019 Review Stage is something that is inspired by the Disney XD series, Gravity Falls. It features the show’s main crib, or should I say more of a tourist trap, The Mystery Shack. Here’s a brief description of what we can expect from this brick rendition by LEGO builder Figura.

Come visit Gravity Falls and join Dipper and Mabel in discovering all the mysteries their Grunkle Stan might be hiding from them inside the Mystery Shack.

  • The ground floor features the museum, the gift shop including a curious vending machine and the living space
  • The first floor holds a secret room including some furniture and a dubious carpet
  • The top floor has Dipper’s and Mabel’s shared bedroom as well as various items of mystery – imparticular a book with the number 3 written on it
  • The outside areas show three different porches (the one by the rear entrance including Stan’s couch), the parking lot and the bottomless pit, which apparently is bottomless
  • Parked outside is the little golf cart, which helps Dipper and Mabel escape the monstrous dangers of the surrounding forests
  • Contains 5 minifigures: Dipper, Mabel, Stan, Soos, and Wendy as well as Waddles

To reach all areas of the shack the floors can easily be separated or – for even quicker access – you can fold open the roof. The roof above the gift shop can also easily be lifted. Many of the details and furniture can easily be removed and rearranged to allow different settings.

These 10K-qualifiers now join the ranks of the UCS Space Shuttle Atlantis to be included to the LEGO Ideas Second 2019 Review Stage. Hot on their heels is another original creation by one of my favorite builders: JKBrickworks’s The Pursuit of Flight. If it will make the cut, then this might be Jason Allemann’s third potential LEGO Ideas set following the success of 2016’s LEGO Ideas Maze (21305) and the more recent LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book (21315).

LEGO Ideas Space Rocket Ride (40335) Official Images Released

After making a brief appearance in April at a LEGO Certified Store in Croatia, we now have our first official images of the LEGO Ideas Space Rocket Ride (40335). If you recall, this particular set is inspired by the winning entry created by LEGO fan builder mjsmiley for the LEGO Ideas LEGO Moments In Space Contest. The contest intends to inspire LEGO fan builders to come up with their own version of LEGO’s next promotional set. Take a look at the following images.

LEGO Ideas Space Rocket Ride (40335) 40335 2

The LEGO Ideas Space Rocket Ride (40335) is intended to be the next gift with purchase (GWP) set, though the promo mechanics on when and how to avail this set has not yet been disclosed by LEGO, though we can assume that this promotional item might be released next month. Perhaps as a GWP set when you purchase the LEGO Creator Expert Apollo 11 Lunar Lander (10266)? We just have to wait and see.

This set comes in at 154 pieces and in spite of its small size, features a couple of play features such as a rotating crank that allows the Space Rocket to move, a coin slot, and child minifigure with a classic LEGO Space logo printed on its torso.

My radar hasn’t picked up yet where this promotional item will be offered, but you can be sure that I’ll be giving you updates once more info comes in. As someone who collects exclusive GWP sets, this one is certainly on my must-have checklist in spite of the slight controversy that surrounded it a year ago. Special thanks to Promobricks for sharing these images.

********** UPDATE **********

LEGO has confirmed that as a Gift with Purchase set, LEGO Ideas Space Rocket Ride (40335) will be available starting June 5. No price points have been set yet for qualifying purchases as of this publication.

Check Out These Winners for the LEGO Ideas Design A Virtual Floor Contest for the LEGO Tower Mobile Game

As part of promoting LEGO’s new mobile game, LEGO Tower, the LEGO Ideas Team has launched the LEGO Ideas Design a Virtual Floor for the LEGO Tower Game last March, which eventually turned out to be one of the contest platform’s most popular competitions as of to date. With over 560 entries, the judges weighed in their bets and have now chosen the final six winners that will get to take home a LEGO Creator Expert Corner Garage (10264) and LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313), plus a total LEGO Shop@Home shopping spree worth $200 USD.

These final six winners will also get the bragging rights of having their original creations converted digitally and to be integrated as an actual floor in the LEGO Tower game. Each MOC entry is specifically measured at 32 studs wide, 12 studs deep and 9 bricks tall. It should also have a door wide and tall enough to accommodate a minifigure. Each floor build must only comprise of the room itself without any minifigs included. For the rest, its all up to the builder’s imagination.

Check out these awesome LEGO Ideas Design a Virtual Floor winning entries, and be sure to spot them once LEGO’s most recent mobile app game launches this summer.

LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons Will be Our Next Official LEGO Ideas Set

After the thrilling announcement of the LEGO Ideas 10 Years Anniversary Fan Vote where we see our little, blue brick alien making a comeback as a possible LEGO Ideas set, host Ali Plumb and LEGO Ideas Associate Engagament Manager Hasan Jensen, have just announced the next official LEGO Ideas set that will hit store shelves this year. If you’re a dino fan and would love to have your very own brick-built dino museum, then be sure to watch out for Jonathan Brunn’s (aka Mukkinn) LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons.

The Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons topped the rest of the five finalists in the LEGO Ideas Third 2018 Review Stage, besting entries such as the Chemical Plant, Food Stand Diners, Queen Victoria Cruise Ship, and the Playable LEGO Piano.  Though there is no confirmed pricing and piece count as  of the moment, this upcoming LEGO Ideas set is slated to be launched this year so we can bet that we’ll hear some words from the LEGO Ideas Design Team very soon.

LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons

Same as in previous reviews, we have a wildcard of a set so to speak in the form of Donny Chen’s (aka SleepyCow) spot-on, brick-built replica of a Playable LEGO Piano. This intricate model of a Grand Piano is still possible to become an official LEGO set, so let’s cross our fingers and see if it will eventually receive the thumbs up from the review board.

So what do you think of this choice for a new LEGO Ideas set? Do you think its a good call? Personally, I was hoping that the Food Stand Diners will make it to the cut since it would look great besides the LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261) or together with the new People Pack – Fun Fair (60234) minifigure pack for that awesome fairground themed park. Anyways, still our heartfelt congratulations to Jonathan Brunn and for his excellent LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons!

Here’s Another Chance to See That LEGO Ideas Stitch Happen!

This is a great way to start the morning (coming from this side of my world, that is)! Just saw this on my Twitter feed where LEGO Ideas just recently opened another round of voting for previously chosen LEGO Ideas projects as part of their LEGO Ideas 10 Years Anniversary – Fan Vote. Since its debut in October 2016, Tyler’s LEGO Ideas Stitch product idea has caught my attention being a fan of Disney’s little blue alien. After actively campaigning for Lendy Tayag’s LEGO Ideas Voltron, I wouldn’t have second thoughts on seeing an official LEGO Ideas Stitch standing beside my prized brick robot. However, it seems that the LEGO Ideas may have shot down my brick dream when the design team opted for the The Flintstones and The Treehouse as the winning sets for the Second 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.  Imagine the agony of not seeing Stitch in all of his LEGO glory! Well truth be told, I somehow felt this coming not because that I don’t believe will turn out to be a great LEGO Ideas set, but because it might be potentially at odds with the contest platform’s product idea guidelines.

I guess my fears have been finally slayed when this time around, we can have another chance of seeing LEGO Ideas Stitch happen! Check out what the LEGO Ideas Review Team has to say.

LEGO Ideas Stitch

Why the Special Review?

This all started as we reminisced on these past years, the product ideas that had been turned into official sets and all those that hadn’t. It led to the realization that we definitely wanted to celebrate those past product ideas that hadn’t made it, for one reason or another, even more and thereby to give them a second chance. All these thoughts kickstarted the special anniversary review, where we had to determine which product ideas still had the potential to become an official set based on our usual review criteria that encompasses aspects such as brand fit, build quality, feasibility, licensing possibilities, expected demand, current and future LEGO products and much more.

The internal review of these previous product idea entries resulted in 4 finalists: we have the International Space Station by XCLD, SEGA Classic Arcade Machines by SpacySmoke (which is also one of my favs), Small YELLOW by LEGO Certified Professional Nathan Sawaya, and (drum roll please) LEGO Ideas Stitch by our very own Tyler Clites (aka legohaulic).

LEGO Ideas Stitch

LEGO fans have until June 4 to vote which among these four can become an official LEGO Ideas set. The product idea that gets the most votes (cast through secret balloting) during the fan voting stage will qualify for the product development phase until we see it as an official LEGO product. What is great about this second chance is the fact that it is now entirely on the hands of the LEGO fan community to see which among these four entries will land on LEGO Store shelves.

If you desperately need to see that LEGO Ideas Stitch happen as much as I am, then let’s do Tyler a favor and head over to the LEGO Ideas page and cast your vote. If you do not have a LEGO Ideas account, then creating one is as easy as doing the Thanos Snap. Just have a valid email address ready, and then follow the on-screen instructions at the LEGO Ideas website, and please help us spread the word for LEGO Ideas Stitch by following us on Facebook and Twitter. Ohana!

LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street Project Finally Reached 10K Support

To have a LEGO Ideas submission that we’ve promoted here on The Brick Show and seeing it getting that necessary 10K support is certainly exhilarating. When it does happen, we’re sure as happy as the creators themselves for this outstanding feat. This one also happens to match two prevalent themes in the latest Review batch. What’s expected to be the LEGO Ideas Second 2019 Review Stage is full of either building sets or TV settings. And the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street product idea by Filipino builder Ivan Guerrero (aka bulldoozer21) covers both. It’s both an apartment build and a location for one of the world’s best-known children’s shows.

LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street

If you recall, we first covered this product idea back in November of 2017. A follow-up on its support-gathering progress was posted early last month. By then it had over 8,000 supporters with over 200 days left for completion. By April’s end, it achieved the goal it took over a year to reach.

Perhaps interest on Ivan’s project was sparked anew by his updated design (leaving it at 55 short of 3,000 pieces). And Maybe it’s because Sesame Street is celebrating its 50th birthday this 2019. Whatever the case, the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street is now lined-up for the First 2019 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

sesamestreetanniversary7-27-2018-20180727062606763

Still, even if it did make it past the Second 2019 Review Stage, it probably won’t be until later this year. And then production and release might not be until 2020. Considering that, this set’s situation might be similar to the LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie (21317). It was created to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th Anniversary in 2018, but released the year after instead.

Are you excited to see the 123 Sesame Street product idea as an official LEGO Ideas set? Let me know in the comments below.

The Classic LEGO Pirates May Have a Comeback With This LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay Product Idea

Before LEGO Ninjago and more esoteric building systems like Technic, before the proliferation of licensed sets, LEGO themes were basic. There were City sets and Knight sets. Then we had the Pirate sets, usually comprised of ic0nic brick-built ship designs that sometimes had cloth sails. In what can only be a beautiful love letter to the old Pirates sets, LEGO Ideas member Pablo Jimenez or Bricky_Brick at LEGO Ideas submitted this incredible build. And while longtime internet explorers might cringe at its name, everyone can agree that LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay product idea is a sweet assembly. The possibility of having this as an official LEGO set now that it passed that highly desired 10K fan support certainly makes LEGO Pirates feel like it never went away.

LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay

Rather than make another pirate ship for his product idea, Pablo decided to tackle another signature locale of pirate lore. That would be the island hideout. The Pirate Bay sees a band of buccaneers turn a flat island into a fortress using wrecked ships and assorted flotsam. You have to agree the results are impressive. Pablo also did great in working in various setting details to sell that this island post can be somewhat self-sufficient for its pirate garrison. There are trees left on the island, and the proposed LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay set also keep a combination of pigsty and chicken coop. They also have cannons on hand for that extra fire power.

LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay

Home, in this case, is comprised of a captain’s quarters, kitchen, tavern, and jailhouse. There’s also a sandy dune to bury a stash of treasure in, as well as secret compartments under the captain’s bunk and galley, in case quick escapes are needed.

6077943-P-thumbnail-full

There’s also a lot of characters and critters to populate LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay with. The set provides for a six-person pirate crew (one peg-leg captain, three mates and two wenches); a lone navy sailor castaway; a dog, parrots, monkey (with minifigure limbs), pigs, chickens, and a crab; and finally some hazards like a scorpion and even a great white shark.

With over 9,000 supporters and more than 700 days left, we can probably expect Bricky_Brick’s The Pirate Bay to gain the need 10-K LEGO Ideas support sooner rather than later. If it can make the deadline for the First 2019 Review Stage it’ll join the likes of the Museu Nacional – Rio de Janeiro, Anatomini, and NBC’s “The Office” product ideas.

ADDENDUM: Scratch the request for supporters. “The Pirate Bay” has hit the magic 10-K and is now part of the First 2019 Review Stage batch. Congratulations to Bricky_Brick and best of luck with the review crew.

Here are The Five Product Ideas That Qualifies for The LEGO Ideas Third 2018 Review Stage

The LEGO Ideas Review Team has officially announced the five product ideas that qualify for the Third 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage which began from September 2018 until early January 2019. It may not be as many as of those from early review stages, but these selections represent a pretty diverse collection of product ideas that appeal to almost all LEGO fans. These are LEGO product ideas that garnered the support of more than 10,000 LEGO fans in the idea-sharing platform during the aforementioned dates.

I have to say that this is a rather tough decision to make, considering that almost all of these product ideas are my personal favorites. But if I really have to choose which among these do I really like to see happen as an official LEGO set, then I have to say my vote goes to FrostBrick’s Food Stand Diners. Here once again are the five product ideas that qualified for the LEGO Ideas Third 2018 Review Stage.

The LEGO Ideas Review Board is still currently working to give us their verdict and results of the LEGO Ideas Second 2018 Review Stage, with 10 awesome product ideas vying to get that seal of approval to be the next official LEGO Ideas set. In case you missed it, here are the qualifiers currently reviewed from this period.

Playable LEGO Piano Qualifies for LEGO Ideas Third 2018 Review Stage

If you recall last October, we featured a LEGO product idea that will probably impress even Mozart if he is alive today. The LEGO Ideas project, Playable LEGO Piano, by builder SleepyCow has gained a lot of support since then and now ranks among the LEGO hopefuls to become the next official LEGO Ideas set alongside four qualifiers. For its Third 2018 Review Stage, the product ideas that have gotten 10,000 supporters during this period are a varied mix of themes – from dinosaur skeletons to a chemical plant, a set of fast-food stalls and a cruise ship. And now the latest addition to these LEGO product ideas now appeals to the musician and builder at heart.

It’s always amazing whenever a LEGO builder does a MOC that includes some mechanical function and non-traditional materials. Ideas member SleepyCow has done just that with a small-scale playable LEGO piano that actually plays thanks to actual strings attached to the keys, and pedal dampers.

lego piano

The sheer amount of detail SleepyCow put on this playable LEGO piano product idea is mind-blowing. Aside from the aforementioned working 25 piano keys (with hammers hitting correctly-tuned strings) and pedals, the whole setup has legs ending on scaled piano wheels, the player’s bench is adjustable, and it can be converted into a player piano via Power Functions.

Such advanced LEGO mechanics (that don’t require Power) are not so common in mainstream LEGO sets, so it’s only fitting that it’ll come out via the more imaginatively conceptualized LEGO Ideas line. First, we’ll need SleepyCow’s playable LEGO piano to beat its fellow Third 2018 Review Stage submissions, and who knows what other sets make in. Check out his demo video below.
