LEGO and Walmart’s LEGO60th Website Offers Brief History Lesson and Classic Set Promos.

Our coverage of the many events relating to the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick continues, this time, with more news of the partnership between LEGO and Walmart. We covered in a previous article some awesome retro LEGO sets now made available in Walmart stores, and now more details have surfaced.

An official website has been launched by Walmart and LEGO that presents a concise history of the world’s most iconic brick set brand spanning a period of six decades. LEGO60th.com also highlights some of the most important developments with LEGO with regard to its sets, including how its partnership with Walmart helped in promoting the LEGO brand.

LEGO60th

Aside from that, LEGO60th also lays down the specific steps on how collectors may grab certain freebies that come with purchasing the LEGO Classic Bricks on a Roll (10715) set. Not only does it work with Walmart branches, but with purchases made online through Jet.com.

When we wrote our previous article on these Walmart exclusives, the website was still having technical difficulties staying up, but it’s fine now and the procedure is up for all to see. Upon buying the LEGO Classic set 10715 from any Walmart store or ordering through Jet.com, they need only to send a photo of their receipt form to LEGO60th.com to get the limited edition collectible booklet with retro building instructions for Bricks on a Roll. Bear in mind, however, that this promotion is only available for US residents 18 years old and above, and will run until March 9, 2018 or until supply lasts.

The website also lists the official release dates for the LEGO Classic 60th Anniversary sets: House (4000028) on February 1, Windmill (4000029) on February 5, and the Truck (400030) on February 9.

LEGO Celebrates it BIG With This 10-Foot Tall LEGO Brick.

LEGO doesn’t mince words (or bricks, for this matter) when it makes a point of publicly declaring its passion for the LEGO brick. Now that we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of this toy icon, LEGO Master Builders made sure that they got their message of admiration and love for the brand across, in a way that people surely took notice.

10 foot brick

Designed and constructed in LEGO’s US Headquarters in Enfield, Connecticut, this giant classic piece is made up 133,000 LEGO pieces and took 350 hours to build. It stood proudly at New York City’s Flatiron District from January 26 to 28, with a simple question posed for onlookers: What Will You Build?

Here’s what LEGO has to say about the 60th anniversary of the iconic brick.

Sixty years ago, the simple idea of adding tubes inside a plastic building brick turned into one of the most exciting and influential toys in the world – the LEGO brick. Since then, LEGO play has been about the joy of building and giving every child the chance to shape their own world through inventive play.

The LEGO Group began producing a plastic brick in 1949, but it was not until nine years later, in 1958, that the LEGO brick we know today was born. It took several years of iterations to find the iconic design, which has not been changed significantly since. The unique design and the uncompromised focus on quality and safety during the past six decades ensures that two LEGO bricks produced 60 years apart can still fit together.

As an added treat in case you missed this brick-built monolith, LEGO Fan Tube shares a speed build video of how this anniversary monument was made.

Walmart To Offer LEGO 60th Anniversary Vintage Brick Sets.

2018 is the year to give thanks for six decades of LEGO; that’s in case you’ve forgotten. The LEGO Group, of course, is churning out one celebratory gesture after another. A 60-years Commemorative Set (40290)? Check. A special event at The Home of the Brick in Billund? Check, too.

But LEGO hasn’t even begun to bring out the sum total of their retro sets. Here’s a series of classic oldies that are going to be exclusive stock at Walmart. And when I say oldies I mean old, with the retro packaging and the most basic construction imaginable. Here are the first three announced.

4000028 1

First is the pretty basic and elementary House (4000028) set, all slim and perfect background material for any LEGO neighborhood setting, even if minifigures look quite large next to it.

4000029 1

Next is about a step up in complexity from the House (4000028) but still an iconic build: the Windmill (4000029).  It technically has two floors and bright red blades, easy to get an observer’s attention. Both this and set 4000028 will be exclusively available at Walmart for just $19.99 a box.

10715

There’s more though. As part of LEGO’s longtime retail partnership with Walmart, they’re offering this sweet promo. After buying the Bricks on a Roll (10715) retro pack shown above, a collector needs only to log on to the special anniversary website www.lego60th.com, upload a scan of their Walmart receipt for set 10715, and LEGO will send over a free collectible LEGO Booklet as well as building instructions for Bricks on a Roll in retro-style.

There’s no specification if online Walmart purchases count, or even if the promo has a deadline, but we’ll keep you updated, as always.

Put A Smile on Thanos’ Face With This Next LEGO Custom Character Bust From Build Better Bricks!

We’re less than 4 months away before the theatrical release of the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War, and just before this galaxy spanning MCU event takes place on May 4, the official trailer has already become the number 1 trending video over on YouTube in just a matter of days, proving how much fans have patiently waited to see our Marvel heroes face off against their ultimate nemesis. LEGO has already covered much of Avengers: Infinity War, with six sets and four LEGO BrickHeadz specifically built for the film. Check out what we know so far about these sets right here.

Very much the same as that from the comic books, MCU’s Avengers: Infinity War follows the trail of destruction led by the film’s main antagonist, the Mad Titan himself, Thanos, as he seeks to gather the Infinity Stones for his bid of subjugating the entire universe under his command. Such power under his control can only mean the imminent destruction of the universe as we know it – well thankfully, it’s just in the comics.

In honor of this iconic Marvel villain, Tyler and Sean decided to have their next LEGO custom character bust dedicated to the purple-skinned Mad Titan. This newest model in their series of character bust features the classic Thanos as he is seen from the comic books. Check out this video from Build Better Bricks as Tyler explains the details of their latest creation. Just forgive Tyler for the Barnie jokes afterwards.

Tyler and Sean’s use of bright light orange and blue pieces really stood out in this custom LEGO Thanos bust. The way they managed to replicate the Mad Titan’s facial expression, with his trademark oversized chin with all its vertical lines is really spot on. At 5.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide, this custom LEGO character bust managed to capture Thanos’ proportions without sacrificing how he actually looks. As always, I like how Tyler and Sean managed to proportionally shape Thanos’ head in such miniature scale, using only 297 LEGO pieces.

Thanos

If you wish to add this unique rendition of the ultimate cosmic warlord to your LEGO creations, then be sure to check Build Better Bricks on how to download the instructions for making this custom LEGO Thanos character bust – and then perhaps, you can put a smile on the face of this Mad Titan.

LEGO Architecture Skylines Las Vegas (21038) Said To Be Released By The End of January.

Last December, we were informed that the next set in the 2018 LEGO Architecture Skylines series will be a bit delayed as expected. The LEGO Architecture Skylines Las Vegas (21038) set was initially thought to have a January release date, just hot off the heels of its predecessor, the exquisitely beautiful LEGO Architecture Skylines Shanghai (21039). However, due to the recent tragic events that unfolded from one its hotels, it was sensible of LEGO to hold off its planned release until supposedly sometime in April. The LEGO Architecture Skylines Las Vegas (21038) comes in at 487 pieces and will apparently retail for 39.99€ or roughly at $39.99.

As it turns out, the delay will not be as bad as it seems. Promobricks managed to stumble upon an eBay posting that shows the set’s official image, and suggests a release date of January 31st. Please take note that this was listed by an eBay seller rather than quoting from an official LEGO source, so it will be wise to take this with a grain of salt. What is interesting, however, is the fact that that seller also posted what looks like to be the set 21038’s official description in German. There is a rough English translation available (courtesy of Google Translate) that gives a hint on the salient features of this set, which you can find below together after its official image.

Also on board is the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign, which shows a desert and a road on a plate-covered base plate – a particularly warm welcome to this detailed replica of one of the most exciting cities in the world! This model from the LEGO Architecture Skyline Product line is a tribute to Las Vegas!

It’s a No-Show for LEGO’s 2018 Summer Sets at These International Toy Fairs.

The 2018 London Toy Fair is ready to kick-off this Tuesday, and as much as many are excited to see what is hot and what is not among various toy companies and exhibitors, it is quite sad to know that LEGO has shied away from attending this year’s London Toy Fair as we reported a few days ago.  Whether due to its underwhelming fiscal year, or as a way of keeping a tight lid on the recent waves of 2018 summer set leaks, LEGO has decidedly written off London from its list of annual 2018 toy exhibits.

toyfair retina 1

Now, for those who are hoping to see LEGO unveiling its upcoming 2018 Summer sets, well, we might not as well put our hopes too high. Brickset has received information that even though the much anticipated New York Toy Fair is just a few weeks away, the LEGO Group has also decisively placed its 2018 summer sets under wraps by not showing any of them during the NYTF. Instead, LEGO will only put on display products that will be launching during the first half of this year or until May. Those who were invited to attend NYTF’s preview party were already told that the LEGO Group will not be showing any of their summer sets from June onwards, and other related products during this event.

only ToyFair Banner OnlinePressRoom

Again, nothing much was said about LEGO’s reasons for holding these back, but we can only speculate that the reason may again, has something to do with their own ill-fated timing of releasing early images to some retailers that eventually led to the waves of leaks that we’ve seen during the past few weeks. From LEGO Marvel Superheroes Infinity War sets, to Han Solo, and even the closely guarded LEGO CMF Series 18, none of these much awaited sets will make their debut at the show floor of the Javits Convention Center in NY.

nuremberg toy fair social

Those residing in Germany and are looking forward to the Nuremberg Toy Fair, should also put in mind that while LEGO fan sites were invited to grace the occasion, LEGO has placed certain severe reporting and photo restrictions over at their booth. It is wise not to expect that much from Nuremberg as well.

All in all, it is a rather bleak and disappointing year for LEGO as far as these reveals are concerned. With even more secrecy thinly concealing what the online community already knows, LEGO fans are feeling the brunt of the prolonged delay of having these 2018 summer sets officially revealed. For the meantime, I guess we just have to make our imagination work for us, as we go through the various descriptions of these 2018 LEGO summer sets, and if you are raring to see these images anyways, then I’m sure you’ll know how to find them.

Glitches in Shipping LEGO Star Wars VIP Cards to Buyers of UCS Millennium Falcon (75912)

We’ve gone over a few times how much the LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon set (75912) was prized by hardcore collectors, and how that huge demand tended to translate into supply issues as retailers and LEGO itself tried to keep it stocked. But there’s another reason for the interest.

Last year, anyone who got to buy the ridiculously awesome UCS Falcon (75912) before the last day of 2017 ended would’ve also gotten the snazzy-looking LEGO Star Wars VIP Card worth a one-year VIP membership. Many of those buyers got their cards, but others haven’t; and there’s a reason why.

ucsfalconset e1510372428203

Apparently there was a glitch in LEGO’s computer systems for their VIP program. It turns out existing LEGO VIP members who bought the UCS Falcon (75912), but had either deactivated or refused to consent in receiving physical mail, ended up not having their LEGO Star Wars VIP Cards not created.

It was a mistake of omission. The stipulations for getting the LEGO Star Wars card was, that it would be mailed physically to 75912 buyers from before the previous year ended. With no permission to mail physically, the LEGO VIP system was spoofed to not make cards for those members.

Thankfully LEGO Customer Service caught on to the goof after VIP members pointed it out, and the withheld LEGO Star Wars VIP Cards are now on their way to the affected people. Furthermore, LCS clarified that any promos accompanying the custom black card are attached to the VIP account itself.

ucsfalcon e1510614873264

That means VIP members don’t actually need to have their Star Wars cards on hand to avail of those promotions when they go active. The special Star Wars-themed LEGO VIP card is a sleek black number with a silhouette of the Millennium Falcon, It’s a nice extra with set 75912.

Remember though, the LEGO Star Wars VIP card will only be available to either those who bought the UCS Millennium Falcon set (75912) before December 31, 2017 or those who preordered before the New Year’s restock. Congratulations to those who were lucky to get it.
