It’s September and it means that LEGO’s latest promotional inspired by the LEGO Hidden Side is now up! As announced in the LEGO Store September 2019 Calendar, the LEGO Hidden Side Newbury Juice Bar (40336) is the next promotional set that comes free for qualifying LEGO purchases.
The nice thing about this freebie is that it will appear in your cart at shop.LEGO.com as a free item for a relatively low price point of $50 USD. And qualifying purchases doesn’t necessarily require to be those from the LEGO Hidden Side sets. The Newbury Juice Bar (40336) set comes in at 127 pieces and features minifigures of Parker Jackson and a Bartender. Like other Hidden Side sets, this small build also highlights a couple of play features: a haunted Juice Bar that transforms from humble-looking stand to a ghoulish refreshment joint, and a minifigure bartender that also changes to a scary fun baddie.
If you have some LEGO sets that you are eyeing to purchase this month, then be sure to take advantage of this opportunity. Other than the Newbury Juice Bar, other promotions that are available as of this posting are the seasonal sets LEGO BrickHeadz Bumblebee (40270) and the LEGO Year of the Pig (40186). Now is the best time to make that LEGO purchase since these free sets are still available for a single purchase, all at the same time, when you proceed to checkout. Be sure to visit LEGO Shop@Home for more info on the latest LEGO sets around.
Mark your calendar on September 5th, because something BIG is arriving. Well, this is what LEGO promises to give us next Thursday. According to a recent 10-second video teaser that LEGO released via Twitter, all galactic rumors seem to suggest that a new LEGO Star Wars UCS set is on the horizon. If you recall from last week, we mentioned that having a new LEGO Star Wars UCS Imperial Star Destroyer (75252) is within the realm of possibility. And this time, it looks like LEGO is now giving us hints on its imminent arrival
The video teaser begins with a view inside a typical home, amidst the crescendo of the Imperial march which we are all so familiar with. The obvious takeaway from this teaser is the pointed shadow cast from the looming ominous figure. The image is enough to evoke overwhelming fear, even for a rubber chicken. All signs lead to the possibility of seeing the return of the iconic Imperial Star Destroyer, which had it’s first UCS release back in 2002 clocking in at 3,096 pieces at that time.
The LEGO Star Wars UCS Imperial Star Destroyer (10030) from 2002.
This current iteration of the Imperial Star Destroyer (75252) will come in at 4,784 pieces, retailing for $700 USD. The chief complaint that most fans have over this set is the ridiculously high price tag that LEGO attached to it if in case the rumors are true. Without further info, the price per piece ratio seems to be too expensive as compared to the largest UCS ever made – 2017’s LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) with 7,541 pieces and selling for a hundred dollars more as compared to the upcoming rehash of the Imperial Star Destroyer. Unless the latter is equipped with LEGO Powered Up functionalities or some new, out-of-the-box features, then a $700 price tag is quite unreasonable.
LEGO promises to make the big reveal on September 5th, and with it perhaps the official announcement of the LEGO Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker tie-in sets that were leaked on social media a week ago. In any case, LEGO will certainly push through with its promise of a BIG reveal, so be sure to stay tuned here on The Brick Show.
The LEGO Group is now taking the play and build experience a step higher. With its goal of making the LEGO system of play accessible to all, TLG today announced a new initiative that will allow children and individuals with visual impairments enjoy the experience of playing with LEGO bricks. The LEGO Audio and Braille Building Instructions utilize artificial intelligence in interpreting visual building instructions in a usable verbal and tactile format. This initiative was first developed by long-time LEGO fan Matthew Shifrin who also happens to be blind. This was later picked up by LEGO where the latter took the initiative of coming up with a soft launch of LEGO Audio Instructions.
The LEGO Audio and Braille Building Instructions are still in its early stages, with four easy-to-build sets receiving its first resources for the blind. LEGO promises to release more building instructions for the visually impaired by 2020, and for other future LEGO sets to be released with such similar free support. Just click on the following links below to know more how this is done.
If you recall, LEGO is very much intentional in making sure that all children benefit from the value of playing with LEGO bricks. Earlier this year, we saw the launch of LEGO Braille Bricks where the LEGO Group aims to develop the love for using Braille among children with visual disabilities. And having an accompanying set of LEGO audio and Braille building instructions and other resources for the blind will give children an opportunity for a new way to build, and to make playing with LEGO bricks more inclusive.

The LEGO Store September 2019 Calendar is now up online and we can see a handful of promotional events that you may want to catch on with. From Hidden Side goodies to buzzin’ BrickHeadz, there’s a lot to take away from the LEGO Store this month. Let’s break down each of them.
Free LEGO Hidden Side Newbury Juice Bar (40336)
I already reported that this latest freebie from the Hidden Side theme will soon arrive next month, though we haven’t had a clue on the promo mechanics of how to avail it. Thankfully, the LEGO Store September 2019 calendar finally confirms how we can avail the Newbury Juice Bar (40336). Every single-receipt purchase of any LEGO merchandise from equivalent to $50 USD and above entitles you to bring home this freebie. This promotional will run from September 2 to 15, or until supplies last. It was previously thought that this promotional set is only limited to any LEGO Hidden Side purchase, but it’s a good thing that it applies to any LEGO merchandise as well.
Free LEGO Storage Bucket (5005630)
From reversible canvas bags to picnic blankets, LEGO seems intent to provide us an array of outdoor accessories with this next offer. From September 23 to 28, LEGO fans with purchases over $100 USD will receive a free LEGO Storage Bucket (5005630) while supplies last. It’s a great way to bring with your LEGO sets to the park or at the beach for some outdoor fun. Just be sure you don’t mix it up with your snacks.
Free LEGO BrickHeadz Bumble Bee (40270)
I saw this promotional ad appear in my email just a few moments ago, and it’s nice of LEGO of throwing in last year’s seasonal LEGO BrickHeadz Bumble Bee (40270). In case you missed this set, this can be added to your shopping cart for free for any purchase of any LEGO merchandise or set totaling $65 USD and more. This promo began yesterday and will run until September 8 or until supplies last.
In-Store Make and Take Triceratops
It seems that LEGO Stores are still continuing the tradition of offering Monthly Mini Builds, in one form or another. Be sure to visit your local LEGO brand store on September 18 to build your very own Triceratops. Like previous make-and-take events, this building event has limited space and pre-registration is required which will begin on September 5 in stores only. This activity is intended for younger LEGO fans ages 6 to 14, and build dates may vary from store to store so be sure to get in touch with your local brick specialist for more details.
Wanted: Ghost Hunters!
For the entire month of September, from September 2 to October 3, join Professor J.B.’s team and build a ghost-hunting vehicle. While you’re at the LEGO Store, you’ll also get a chance to try the augmented reality (AR) play features that the LEGO Hidden Side sets have to offer.
LEGO Life Meeting: Batman’s 80th Anniversary
Mark your calendars on September 21 because this next LEGO Life meeting is quite a unique one. This month, LEGO Stores will be celebrating Batman’s 80th anniversary with a fun Bat-Vehicle and villain getaway car build. Adult fans also get to try and build their own Bat-Vehicle starting at 3PM. You’ll also get a chance to win a $50 USD LEGO Store gift card by uploading your creation using the LEGO Life app. Be sure to sign-up on September 5 though since this event has limited space as well.
The month of September also marks the general release of the exciting LEGO Disney Train (71044). Featuring LEGO’s latest Powered Up technology, this set comes with its own control hub and motor that can be controlled remotely using the LEGO Powered Up app, in any mobile device. This set comes in at 2,925 pieces and retails for $329.99 USD.
Another set slated to be released on September 1st is the LEGO Ideas Central Perk (21319). Taking inspiration from the hit 90s TV show, this building set includes all the main characters from the FRIENDS sitcom including Ross Geller, Rachel Green, Chandler Bing, Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, Phoebe Buffay and Gunther.
These were not mentioned in the LEGO Store September 2019 calendar, but be on the lookout for the LEGO Year of the Pig (40186) promotional for every qualifying purchase of the seasonal LEGO Dragon Boat Race (80103). If you recall, the Year of the Pig set was first offered at the start of this year as a New Year seasonal set, and it’s a good thing that its returning as a promotional item once again. The LEGO Star Wars Mini Droid Commander gift-with-purchase set was also missing from the store calendar, but I’m pretty sure that it will pop-up as a freebie anytime soon in September.
Check out the entire LEGO Store September 2019 calendar below, or you may download it in PDF format right here.
LEGO celebrated 2019 as the Year of the Earth Pig with its first seasonal set offering in January. The LEGO Year of the Pig (40186) came as a freebie for every single-receipt purchase of any LEGO products worth $88 USD and above. It had a short run though, as it was only offered in stores and at shop.LEGO.com only for just a week.
This gift-with-purchase follows LEGO’s New Year tradition of offering promotional sets that follows the Chinese zodiac calendar. And if in case you missed out on this opportunity to add this to your shopping bag back then, you’ll be glad to know that here’s your chance to bring home one. From August 26 until September 8, you’ll get to see this cute New Year piggie in your shopping cart if you buy the LEGO Dragon Boat Race (80103), or until supplies last. From the looks of it, this promotion is only limited to the qualifying purchase involving the Dragon Boat Race set. It might sound a bit restrictive but at a $50 USD price point, I guess its a sound deal of bagging two seasonal sets. Here’s the complete promo mechanics from the LEGO Shop@Home website.
Free LEGO® Year of the Pig (40186) offer is valid for orders online at shop.LEGO.com only, from 08/26/2019 through 11:59pm EST, 09/08/2019, while supplies last. Qualifying purchase must include the Dragon Boat Race (item 80103) only. Bricks & Pieces orders are not valid for this promotion. One set per household. Cannot be applied to previous purchases or combined with any other discount, offer or free gift. One free set per household. Item is valued at approximately a $9.99 (US) / $12.99 (CA) / 189.0 (MXN) retail value and cannot be exchanged or substituted for any other item or cash value. Item is available exclusively through this offer; additional sets cannot be purchased. Offers not valid at LEGOLAND® Parks or LEGOLAND Discovery Centers. The LEGO Group reserves the right to cancel or modify these promotions at any time without advance notice.
Coming in at 152 pieces, the LEGO Year of the Pig (40186) is a fun, comical build that packs a couple of play features such as posable ears and eyes and a movable tail. Its a must for every collector of LEGO’s Chinese New Year seasonal sets, but in case you want to try and build your own using LEGO pieces that you may already have, the building instructions for the Year of the Pig (40186) is now available online. The parts seem to be pretty common, except for the unique circular pig nose tile that is exclusive to this set, so I guess you have to improvise on this one.
Here’s your chance to catch the seasonal LEGO BrickHeadz Bumble Bee (40270) once more in case you missed it. Though it is still listed for sale at LEGO Shop@Home for the usual 10 bucks, this set now comes as a freebie for every qualifying purchase of any LEGO products worth $65 and more.
This promotional is available both in-store and online starting August 26 until September 8 or until supplies last. This 140-piece seasonal BrickHeadz set first appeared in 2018 just in time for Valentine’s Day. It features a bright yellow BrickHeadz bee with movable wings, a detachable heart decor, a pot of honey and a couple of flower elements.
Build your way to someone’s heart with this cute LEGO® BrickHeadz™ construction character. Check out its cute pink cheeks, movable wings, detachable heart decoration, pot of honey and flowers. It also comes with a buildable collector’s baseplate with a seasonal calendar and BrickHeadz logo.
BrickHeadz™ Bumble Bee (item 40270) offer is valid on shop.LEGO.com and at LEGO Stores. Offer valid from 08/26/19 through 11:59pm EST, 09/08/19 or while supplies last only. Offer excludes Bricks & Pieces and backorder items. Cannot be applied to previous purchases or combined with any other discount, offer or free gift. One free set per household. Item is valued at approximately at $9.99 (US) / $12.99 (CA) / 199.0 (MXN) retail value and cannot be exchanged or substituted for any other item or cash value. Item is available exclusively through this offer; additional sets cannot be purchased. Offers not valid at LEGOLAND® Parks or LEGOLAND Discovery Centers. The LEGO Group reserves the right to cancel or modify these promotions at any time without advance notice.
Actor Matthew Perry seems to be having a blast with the new LEGO Ideas Central Perk (21319) that he couldn’t help but crack up a joke that is well too familiar for fans of the hit 90’s TV sitcom. After declaring that the upcoming LEGO Ideas set features Chandler as the most handsome minifigure around, he pushes the humor up to a notch when Matthew Perry decided to don his minifig alter-ego with a Batman costume. The result is nostalgically hilarious.
I built the Friends lego set. I made myself Batman. But that’s neither here nor there. I’m Batman.
Fans of the FRIENDS TV show will immediately recognize the humor in Matthew Perry’s tweet. It is a callback to one of the show’s episodes when Chandler and Ross were arguing regarding whose tuxedo is way cooler: Chandler’s tux that was actually worn by Pierce Brosnan, or Ross’ Val Kilmer Batman tuxedo which the latter worn in 1995’s Batman Forever. Needless to say, Chandler needs to make sure that his wedding with Monica will feature him in the most eye-catching tux ever, and he has his sights on that ‘Batman tuxedo’.
The LEGO Ideas Central Perk (21319) set is slated to be released on September 1st, retailing for $59.99 USD. It comes in 1,070 pieces and features the iconic cafe where the FRIENDS stars hang out in the hit 90s TV series. It features the minifig versions of Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Joey, Phoebe and Central Perk’s long-suffering manager Gunther. Be sure to check with LEGO Shop@Home next week if you’re eyeing to add this LEGO Ideas set to your collection.
Last month, LEGO celebrated the release of its latest LEGO City sets by challenging builders to come up with their most imaginative builds that will bring us closer to the dream of space travel. The LEGO Ideas Moon to Mars building contest is now on the Winner Announcement Phase, with four entries being chosen as the best among the numerous entries that were submitted throughout the month of July. Eventually, it all boiled down to 2 Runner-Ups, 1 Grand Prize Winner, and another wild card entry awarded with a Bonus Prize. Check out these impressive, out-of-the-box, space-worthy creations coming from the innovative minds of our LEGO fan community.
The Starship Jordan Miller is the culmination of the hard work and cooperation of 16 countries coming together with a single purpose: go from the Moon to Mars. This spacecraft was inspired by the friendship and cooperation of 2 brilliant spaceship designers, Jordan and Miller. The Starship is propelled by a single nuclear engine in the back and powered by 11 main solar arrays with additional support from the solar arrays of the docked spacecraft. There are 8 docking ports along the main body. 2 Russian Korolev Deep Space Crew Transports bring the crew from earth to a Lunar Retrograde Orbit to dock with the Jordan Miller. There are also 3 Infinity Cargo Supply spacecraft (grey spacecraft with the gold circular arrays) from Japan and Spain docked to supply food, water, and other necessities for the long journey to Mars. At the front are 2 MDAVs (Mars Descent Ascent Vehicles) to explore Mars. It also has 3 robotic arms. It has a crew of 20 people.
“The Lunar to Mars Embedded Spacecraft” (LME) is built within the core of a dislodged moon rock. The rock, being rich in ice, is used as both a shield and a fuel source. The LME is designed to carry smaller spacecraft with it on its long haul to mars. These included: two scout ships, the Verdigris Landing shuttle, and the Jupiter rover. During the trek, they will be used for maintenance and ice mining. Once the LME reaches mars orbit, the Verdigris and Jupiter will be used to land on and explore the surface. The initial launch will be a slingshot maneuver around the moon after which the engines keep a steady thrust on route to Mars!
Once LEGO City had set up a permanent research station on the Moon, they knew it was time to aim for Mars. They created the Lego Moon to Mars Initiative, an International Organization dedicated to sending Minifigure kind from the Lunar surface to the Red Planet. Scientists from Lego City, Bricksburg, and from across the studded seas in Bricklandia, came and designed the most powerful Slingshot ever. This method saves enormous amounts of fuel normally required for escape velocity, and is only possible on the Moon, where gravity is less than Earth’s. Four Astronauts were chosen for the mission, and after years of training, they are finally ready. Buckle up. It’s gonna be a ride.
The world’s leading private Space Agencies have joined forces with NASA to create the Solar System’s ultimate interplanetary human transport spacecraft.
Hop aboard the MMTS, a futuristic transport system designed to hold passengers in comfort for the long-haul between the space docking stations of the Moon and Mars.
Designed for lengthy journeys, the MMTS includes:
Solar arrays
An observatory
Rotating centrifugal force-based gravity belt with a combination of mechanical gears and a magnetic propulsion system
Space garden dome dedicated to relaxing, health and wellbeing, a glass-covered pond, and hydroponically grown plants (also featured in living quarters)
Science and research labs
Café and dining areas
Comfortable living quarters with advanced adjustable privacy glass enabling passengers to gaze into space from the comfort of their beds whilst filtering out light and harmful solar radiation
Most of us are no stranger to the LEGO lifestyle. We know very well what it means to live out our love for the brick, and LEGO knows that as well.
