First, it had sounded like an April Fools’ joke. Then when confirmation arrived, fans of the colorful online first-person shooter title Overwatch from Blizzard Entertainment were in agreement that it was one of the sweetest new franchise licenses acquired by LEGO. The preview of the first LEGO Overwatch sets and minifigures only whetted collectors’ appetites.
Following some awesome previews in online images and at the 2018 Blizzcon, plus the opening of preorders last month, LEGO has gone the extra mile by having the Overwatch sets listed on Shop@Home be addable to your online shopping bag. Well, at least for LEGO fans in the UK.
LEGO Shop@Home UK has all six LEGO Overwatch sets marked as arriving on January 1 if customers will preorder it now. In comparison, the US Shop@Home only has one set marked as arriving on January 2, one day after its UK release. For the meantime, fans in the US may opt to include these sets in their wishlist.
Here’s a list of the upcoming LEGO Overwatch sets and their Shop@Home listings wherever applicable:
One of the losses for the American LEGO fandom with the closure of Toys R Us in the US (before its impending return as Geoffrey’s Toy Box) were the special exclusive sets made available during annual events like Bricktober in October. It certainly made acquiring the 2018 edition 4-minifigure sets a chore outside of brief LEGO promotions and other-retailer availability. By these methods, US LEGO fans had some chance of getting either the LEGO Harry Potter Bricktober minifigures (5005254, via Barnes & Noble) or the LEGO Jurassic World (5005255) and LEGO Ninjago (5005257) packs. But there are four Bricktober 2018 sets. So what about the LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigures (5005256)?
Originally promised to be available as promotional items in LEGO Stores as listed on monthly store calendars, the passing of September, October and November without word seems to indicate that at the very least, the LEGO Bricktober Marvel set (5005256) will never reach the US.
Apparently, the LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigure set (5005256) was only conventionally available for purchase at Toys R Us Canada, in all of North America. That pretty much writes off any chance to get it from stateside; so only three of the four Bricktober 2018 sets came through. It’s too bad not getting those uncommon Marvel minifigures of War Machine, Wong, unarmored Tony Stark and the Winter Soldier.
If you’re resigned to this news, and still haven’t gotten the LEGO Harry Potter set (5005254) from B&N, they’ve got their promo going all the way to December 26, meaning no worries on that front.
We’re a few weeks away before The LEGO Movie 2 sets finally arrive at our doorsteps just after Christmas, and we have 19 of these sets listed at LEGO Shop@Home. If you recall, we reported that there are a total of 19 sets that belong to this first wave of TLM2 sets, and now all of these can be added to your wish list and be made available for purchase on December 26.
As of the moment, it is only Emmet’s (70832) and Lucy’s Builder Box (70833) that are currently available for purchase, both retailing for $29.99 each. If you wish to know more about these sets, like the names of the rest of Benny’s classic Space buddies, then just click on the links below. Last September, LEGO took a significant experimental step in bringing their products closer to customers. Why the company already has so many branded stores around the world, it feels it could do more to extend its reach. Thus were the first LEGO Pop-Up Stores opened that month, on trial basis.
If you recall photos of the Manchester, Connecticut LEGO Pop-Up Store we shared in the past, the entrance had a prominent sign counting down “112 Days Left to Shop Play”. After all, pop-up stores are temporary, and that sign means how long the Manchester store will stay open before closing.
Now, a LEGO Pop-Up Store employee going by maniac4bricks on Twitter and Instagram has revealed that by January 6, 2019 all currently open LEGO Pop-Up Stores will be closing up shop. His revelation on social media was, in his own words, done with permission from his store manager, making it authentic as any announcement could be.
LEGO Pop-Up Stores were different from the full-blown branded outlets by being of course smaller, the absence of Pick-a-Brick walls and Build-a-Mini stations, along with no mini-build activities. Apparently not being a full store has dampened customer enthusiasm where these pop-up shops opened up before.
With just over a month left before the LEGO Pop-Up Stores close they are, according to maniac4bricks, looking for final feedback on how best these temporary outlets served customers. Furthermore, with the clock running out, one last big call for shoppers to drop in on these pop-ups has been called.
Just over three months remain before the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel starring Bree Larson, arrives in cinemas. It doesn’t take a genius to know that LEGO also has its hand in the merchandise pie for this future blockbuster. In fact, some of the film’s tie-in sets have already been spotted. Again, a German LEGO news source – Promo Bricks this time – has brought word that once more, Toys R Us Canada has the distinction of putting a LEGO set supposed to come out in 2019 on their shelves now. It’s named the LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127).
This set is centered on a vehicle with minifigures added for an awesome action sequence. The vehicle looks very similar to SHIELD quinjet, as it probably looks like in the 1990s when the Captain Marvel film takes place. It’s armed with a pair of 4 flick-missile launchers.
Its accompanying minifigures include Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, young SHIELD Agent Nick Fury, Carol’s pet cat Goose, and the Skrull infiltrator Talos, who himself is armed with a pistol that has a spring-loaded projectile. Accommodations on the quinjet include a one-pilot cockpit and cargo or passenger space accessible by rear hatch.
For now, the only price known for the Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) is at a Canadian price of $39.94 CAD on that country’s Toys R Us stores. Rough conversions would be US$29.99, £23.65 and €26.62, though there’s no further news on when this tie-in might be available outside Canada. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel premieres March 8, 2019.
We’re now on our last leg of LEGO sales and deals, and if you’re one of those blessed souls who managed to bring home their much awaited building sets during LEGO’s Black Friday promos, then you might want to take a look at what the world’s largest online store has to offer with Amazon‘s LEGO Cyber Monday deals.
November 23 – Black Friday 2018 – has come and gone, though some of the sales and discounts may have carried over the weekend. LEGO certainly took advantage of that fact by offering great prices for a selection of sets that have been announced for retirement by next year, jumping up interest.
One such retiring set given the spotlight during Black Friday on Shop@Home was the LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store (21310). The price cut wasn’t only welcome; it was still large enough to qualify for a free LEGO Christmas Gift Box (40292) by itself. Too bad it was just one day.
By now, the Old Fishing Store (21310) is marked as sold out on LEGO Shop@Home, and with the retirement announcement done we can’t be sure if it’ll be restocked over there. Fortunately there are other places to look for it, like Amazon. They’re also offering nice price cuts for it.
With a 23% off courtesy of Amazon, the LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store (21310) can be had for just about $114.99 over there. Granted, it doesn’t come with a free Christmas Gift Box (40292); but when you’re racing against time to get one before its retirement becomes effective with “sold-out” listings, then you’ve got to get it when you can.
Following the release of a good number of 2019 LEGO Creator official set images, we now have crisp, set images for the 2019 LEGO City scheduled to arrive this December. Since spotted at the store shelves of Mastermind Toys in Canada, last week, early rumors are now confirmed that the first wave of 2019 LEGO City sets will follow the usual Police and Firefighter themes that LEGO has released before.
Though the LEGO City theme is beginning to be a bit redundant having the same old themes being released again, one couldn’t help but notice how these sets evolve throughout the years particularly with the inclusion of new pieces and building techniques. Somehow, LEGO managed to release new sets that are based on old themes, and still offer a new and exciting look given their new elements and designs. I’m looking forward to the Downtown Fire Brigade (60216) which is not featured here since there are no official images of this set as of this posting; the Snow Groomer (60222), and the Harvester Transport (60223). These sets include several interesting pieces like the rehashed light bricks and the clever use of Nexo Knights shield pieces, to name a few.
These new 2019 LEGO City sets are expected to be available in LEGO Stores and at shop.LEGO.com before the year ends.
After its debut last month, the ominous LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Castle (75251) was initially offered exclusively via Amazon. The LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Castle (75251) is already listed at shop.LEGO.com though we to have to wait until December 1, 2018 for its public release. It comes in at 1,060 pieces and retails for $129.99.
