SPOTTED: Microscale LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (40289)

A few moments ago, we shared a piece of news that has been circulating among LEGO fans since the release of the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle designer video. Some has been quick to notice that LEGO seems to be teasing on a new LEGO Harry Potter set somewhere in the 7-minute video, and as it turns out, the speculations are now true. A Brickset forum member spotted a new LEGO Harry Potter set somewhere in the aisles of his local LEGO Store in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Based on these box art images, the LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (40289) looks very much the same as the set seen on the background (though blurry) of the designer video. Take a look at these images.

40289 1

40289 2

This micro-scaled version of one of the most famous places in Potterverse consists of five, scaled down models of Gringots Wizarding Bank, Ollivanders, Flourish and Blotts, Quality Quidditch Supplies, and perhaps the most famous in Diagon Alley, the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. It also comes with a minifigure version of Mr. Ollivander, which is quite frankly look far better than his first iteration as seen in LEGO’s  2011 version of Diagon Alley (10217).

40289 3

As Huw from Brickset observes, the size of this micro-scaled version of Diagon Alley perfectly complements the Hogwarts Castle (71043) set to further expand their play features. There’s no word yet about its scheduled release date nor its pricing and availability in other regions such as in the US. It can be expected, however, that it may sell somewhere from $40 to $50. I personally feel that LEGO is trying to expand its current LEGO Harry Potter sets to make it compatible with other similarly scaled sets under its theme. If ever that will be the case, than LEGO may have stumbled upon an idea on how to creatively engage children (and adults as well) to the ever-expanding world of LEGO Harry Potter.

Thanks once again to Brickset for sharing this piece of news.

LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222): First Set in “Master Builder” Series?

By now the LEGO fan community has gotten their first good look at the high-quality images for the LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) set; we don’t have to paint a picture on how awesome it looked. Now that the initial hype’s died down we can focus on smaller details, like some specific text in the product blurb.

Said blurb text notes that Betrayal in Cloud City (75222) will be the first in what’s being termed as the “LEGO Star Wars Master Builder” series. We’re already aware of the Ultimate Collectors’ Series (UCS) which include some of the most complicated LEGO Star Wars sets ever developed, but where does the Master Builder Series fit?

Apparently, the Master Builder Series might be used to designate LEGO Star Wars sets that are designed so that they could be used for play, as compared to most of the sets under UCS which are complex builds that – once assembled – are only fit for exhibition, primarily geared for AFOLs.

It should be recalled that the LEGO Star Wars UCS thing started in 2000 with complex display-only sets, though in following years they added “playable” products like the Assault on Hoth (75098) battleground play-set or the LEGO Star Wars UCS Naboo Starfighter (10026) from 2002.

10026-1.jpg

With the advent of a new labeling scheme, LEGO can now perhaps make a distinction between their Star Wars tie-in sets, with the all-ages playable sets under Master Builder and older-ages display models under UCS. For now, we can be content to wait for further clarification from LEGO, with Betrayal at Cloud City (75222), the first of its kind, coming very soon on October 1.

LEGO Bricktober 2018 Official Images Revealed – Availability in the US Confirmed

After the discovery of the LEGO Bricktober 2018 flyer in Germany, Toys R Us has released the official images of this annual collection of LEGO Bricktober minifigures giving us a closer look at what to expect from them. At first it was thought that the deal is just available in Europe owing to the sad reality that TRU stores in the US are now closed. However, a recent tweet from the LEGO Group suggests that these highly sought after collectible minifigures will also find their way in the US through other retailers. Furthermore, LEGO has previously announced via Twitter that the LEGO Bricktober 2018 sets will be available in Barnes and Noble stores, but later on clarified that ONLY the Harry Potter Minifigures Pack (5005254) will be available at the said bookstore chain.

Regardless of the venue, this is much welcomed news from LEGO regarding the availability of their LEGO Bricktober 2018 minifigures. It may be a bit challenging though to locate each of the minifigure pack in varying locations or retailers other than Barnes and Noble, and it would even be convenient if LEGO brand stores will sell them as well. But since these are exclusive and very limited LEGO minifigure collectibles, perhaps looking at it as a sort of a treasure hunt will make the search for them more fun and enjoyable.

For now, let’s feast our eyes on these official images and take a closer look at each of these LEGO Bricktober 2018 sets. A word of thanks to The Brothers Brick for sharing these images and to Brickfinder for additional info.

All in all, this year’s collection of LEGO Bricktober 2018 minifigure packs is a sure win, with each set containing unique and never-before seen minifigures that will surely catch the eye of the most dotting collector: Prof. Horace Slughorn, Dr. Ian Malcolm, and the Avengers Infinity War versions of Bucky (aka Winter Soldier/White Wolf) and Tony Stark (with his sweater on). Will keep you posted for any developments regarding their availability so be sure to keep us under your radar.

Cast Your Most Powerful Brick-Building Spell with this Lize-Sized LEGO Harry Potter Magic Wand

A few weeks ago, LEGO brand stores in the UK and in some parts of Europe began their LEGO Harry Potter Build and Take events to celebrate the recent release of the LEGO Harry Potter sets. Children were given the opportunity to make their own LEGO Harry Potter Magic Wand in-store and to take them home as well. Though this event is still on-going, with some stores running the event until September 1, some places have eventually concluded it already. So in case you missed out in this freebie, or is still waiting for this Build and Take event to happen in your local LEGO store, Promobricks were good enough to share the instructions for this relatively simple, 26-piece brick-built Harry Potter Magic Wand.

lego harry potter wand instructions

This build comes in regular LEGO brick pieces, just 26 pieces in total, consisting mostly of reddish brown and black circular bricks with axle holes. The only unique pieces are the long technic axle and the two 4x2x2 Rocket Step pieces, with the latter found only in recent sets such as the LEGO Classic Build Bigger Thinking Mission to Mars (10405), LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V (21309), and The LEGO Batman Movie The Bat-Space Shuttle (70923). Even if you don’t have these specific parts, I’m sure that you can find alternative pieces to replace these and to give your LEGO Harry Potter Magic Wand its unique look and feel.

Thanks again to Promobricks for sharing these building instructions.

Check Out This Ad Video for LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216)

A lot has already been said about Star Wars: The Last Jedi and its contrasting faces – decent blockbuster and fan-lambasted travesty – that you don’t need me to reiterate them. What we can do however is join in on gushing over the LEGO Star Wars sets tying in to the film. If you could recall, way back in March LEGO uploaded a hilarious abridged video of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on YouTube, summarizing that film (and its predecessors) in just two minutes. It featured LEGO animation of what was later confirmed to be the LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216) set, now finally released.

Apparently an abridging is not quite enough for LEGO, and their official YouTube channel now has another video, a commercial for the LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216). It focuses on the three principal minifigures of the set, and the characters they represent.

The ad features three kids playacting the incredible Throne Room fight from The Last Jedi using the LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216). They eventually get into an argument on which of Rey, Kylo Ren, or Supreme Leader Snoke is the strongest. The (animated) minfigs act out what the kids think of their abilities, until the argument distracts the children from the set and cause the minifigures to look up, unsure what to do. Its always amusing to see how kids can be brutally frank and at point with their commentaries.

In addition to the Snoke’s Throne Room (75216), you may want to check as well other new LEGO Star Wars sets already out at shop.LEGO.com, including the Hoth Medical Chamber (75203), Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter (75214) and X-Wing (75218) among others.

This Custom LEGO Chocolate Frog Card Is Surely Magical

If you’ve been keeping up with our news, then you know that LEGO has a wave of Harry Potter merchandise that has been released or will be releasing soon. From the newly-premiered Collectible Minifigures (71022) to the upcoming Hogwarts Castle (71043), that’s a whole lot of minifigures and nanofigures to pick up. But what do we do with them? Perhaps add them to past LEGO Harry Potter play-sets? But Dutch LEGO fan Daan de Ruijter has a sweet MOC idea: how about mounting the minifigures into a brick-built, custom LEGO Chocolate Frog Card?

If you recall from the books and films, Chocolate Frogs are a popular Wizarding World chocolate brand that includes animated pictures of famous Witches and Wizards in the known Potter-verse, encased in pentagon-shaped trading cards. Daan de Ruijter has conceptualized a custom LEGO Chocolate Frog Card case that’s shaped like the original one as seen in the Harry Potter films.

You can even build your own custom LEGO Chocolate Frog Card, since de Ruijter was kind enough to share the building instructions on how to make this MOC online via his website. Also included on the instruction page are links to the list of the LEGO parts and pieces (and respective quantities) needed to make one of these Chocolate Frog cases, so you can order those parts as needed from LEGO’s Pick A Brick page, or via Bricklink.

With the option to put down the LEGO Wizarding World minifigure’s name on the card case using water slide decals, this custom LEGO Chocolate Frog Card by Daan de Ruijter’s is one of the most awesome ways to jazz up your choice of all the collectible minifigures coming out. We give due credit to de Ruijter for his creation.

Does the Way the LEGO Wizarding World Collectible Minifigures (71022) Blind Bags Placed Per Box Gives A Hint On What You Can Get?

The new wave of LEGO Wizarding World Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast sets are now out, together with the highly in demand LEGO Harry Potter and Wizarding World Collectible Minifigures (71022). As we all know by now, the LEGO Harry Potter CMF 71022 comes with an array of impressively designed minifigs of familiar Potter-verse characters, including a chase minifig of Percival Graves/Gellert Grindelwald. We already reported on its box distribution earlier last month, giving us an idea of the odds of getting that minifigure that you really want.

71022 24

This time around, an avid collector of this latest LEGO CMF has shared additional info via Reddit that will somehow increase the odds of finding that elusive LEGOF CMF (71022) character that you are looking for. According to Mabubifarti, s/he observes that the way the sixty (60) blind bags of this particular CMF is placed inside its sealed box follows a peculiar pattern. Furthermore, this tendency for a ‘preferred’ arrangement was also observed by Mabubifarti to be applicable to LEGO’s Anniversary Series 18 CMF (71021), particularly in reference to where Series 18’s chase minifig (which is the Classic Police Officer) is located inside the sealed box.

Just in case someone finds it useful, I recorded the order of the minifigures in my Harry Potter CMF box. from lego

Based on the above layout, the upper row of the table represents the back portion of the box, while the row at the very bottom of the table represents the front portion of the box. According to reports from other LEGO Harry Potter CMF collectors, Mabubifarti’s arrangement is quite accurate with 2 other slight variations from the one s/he originally shared. If this is true and you’re still on a mission to complete your very own LEGO Harry Potter CMF (71022), then it will be better to keep in mind that picking up the blind bags from both the front and back end of the box will probably yield a handful of duplicate minifigs. It seems that the best strategy to avoid any unwanted duplicates is to pick things upper column and getting each blind bag per column alternately.

71022

Of course, we must always take such reports with a grain salt, but with almost every collector reporting the same with only slight variations on the preferred arrangement, then it may also prove that such an arrangement does exist. If you’re still in doubt, you should always feel your way through each of the blind bags. The reported blind bag arrangement may only help as far as narrowing down your search, but feeling your way through each of them still gives you a much better chance of landing on that minifig that you really want.

71022 alt1

Speaking of feeling your way through each LEGO Harry Potter CMF (71022) blind bag, The Brothers Brick has published an excellent guide that will help you increase the odds of finding that tricky minifig that you really want. Be sure to check out their feel guide before you head to your local LEGO brand store for your LEGO Harry Potter CMF hunt. Alternatively, you may also visit shop.LEGO.com if you don’t mind getting a randomly selected blind bag.

Here’s How To Build The LEGO Hogwarts Express From Barnes & Noble’s Build and Take Event

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter book in the US, and the eventual release of LEGO’s new Wizarding World sets, Barnes & Noble has launched a LEGO Build and Take this Saturday at select bookstore branches in the US. And just recently, fans who attended the event have now shared several images of this mini LEGO Hogwarts Express and the instructions that go along with it.

I didn’t notice it back then when the event was still being promoted via social media, but thanks to avid LEGO Harry Potter fans, they’ve correctly pointed out that this version of the Barnes & Noble LEGO Hogwarts Express is exactly the same build that can be found in the now discontinued LEGO Dimensions Harry Potter Team Pack (71247).

banner lego mini hogwarts express 2

This particular mini-build comes in at 43 pieces and can easily built using any LEGO pieces that you have. Though the Barnes & Noble’s mini LEGO Hogwarts Express build and take event set was not exactly an exclusive build so to speak, it’s still cool to bring home a piece of the LEGO Harry Potter magic. If you missed out on this event and would still like the make your own mini LEGO Hogwarts Express, you may download the building instructions for the 71247 which you can find from LEGO’s customer service portal. The parts list is also made available so having the right pieces should be a snap.

So what do you think of this promotional set, brick fans? Were you there during the yesterday’s B&N build and take event? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Get Your Flashy Airline Safety Tips From The Quirky Cast Of The LEGO Movie 2

What do movie stars do in between film projects? Star in a flashy airline safety guidelines video, of course! Well, at least that’s what the stars of The LEGO Movie 2 did. Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks and several of their costars in The LEGO Movie and sequel reprise their characters for a quirky and fun aircraft safety video for Turkish Airlines that was recently uploaded online.

It’s also one cool way to hype up the still-in production The LEGO Movie 2 The Second Part over in the Middle East, and in one of its major countries to boot. For the benefit of Turkish Airlines’ international passengers, the safety video is in English (how else to hear the voice talent?), though the video could probably be subtitled when it is issued later on for their aircraft’s use.

In true LEGO Movie fashion, there are some cool visuals all around during the nearly four-minute safety video. It starts with a LEGO Turkish Airlines plane being assembled in the background while Emmet and Wyldstyle are introducing the whole video.

Of course, actual guidelines like luggage storage and seat-belts get interspersed with fun gags like “include shameless cameos in safety video”. Cue LEGO Batman (who discusses the “No Smoking” regulation). Then comes the “flight mode/switch-off” rule for all electronic devices. We also have Lloyd and Garmadon “demonstrating” the oxygen masks.

Finally, the latter part of the safety video consists of Unikitty singing the expected “airline safety video song that gets stuck in passengers’ heads”, with the likes of Alfred and Harley Quinn as backup dancers. After that, the LEGO DC Super Heroes pitch in for the emergency landing procedure portion.

And with the mandated “earnest closing remarks”, the LEGO Movie crew, plus others, gets to sit back and enjoy the flight. After all, it’s a party in the sky with Turkish Airlines, in cooperation with Warner Animation Group for The LEGO Movie 2, coming 2019.
