New LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender (42110) Revealed

We’re still several months away before we finally see on toy shelves the latest LEGO Technic sets slated for summer.  And if in case these impressive sets are not enough to fill your LEGO Technic collection, then LEGO still has a huge surprise in store for us this year.  Thanks to online toy retailer Smyths Toys, we now have a glimpse of the LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender (42110) building set.  As tipped by Brickset, this massive Technic set takes it cue from the still to be revealed, next-generation Land Rover Defender.

42110 1

Perhaps similar to its marketing approach with the Bugatti Chiron, LEGO is expanding its partnership with Land Rover to translate in LEGO form the latter’s next-gen models. However, the reveal seems to be unintended since Smyths Toys have taken down their LEGO Technic listing prior to this post.

42110 2

The LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender (42110) comes in at 2,573 pieces and measures at 42cm long and 22cm high. It is expected to retail for 159.99 USD once it arrives in LEGO Stores locally presumably in August or September. Here’s the set’s unofficial product description as lifted from Smyths’ online portal.

This collectible model of the Land Rover Defender really captures the vehicle’s level of refinement with its clean, modern lines and sculpted surfaces, making it a great display piece for the home or office. Developed in partnership with Land Rover, this building toy has working steering, 4-speed sequential gearbox, All Wheel Drive with 3 differentials, independent suspension, detailed in-line 6-cylinder engine and a working winch.

LEGO Technic Summer 2019 Sets Official Images Released

After having a glimpse of the upcoming LEGO Technic Summer 2019 sets as published in the online LEGO Catalog for the 2nd half of this year, official images of these sets started to appear online. Thanks to German LEGO fan site StoneWars, we now have a handful of these images that gives us a closer look at the various functions and play features that these sets have. These sets are slated to be released from August to October. Missing from this collection are those from the Liebherr R 9800 (42100), but I guess its just a matter of time before we see this huge brick innovation up close. For the meantime, let’s take a look at what these other sets offer.

New 2019 LEGO Technic Sets Revealed

Earlier this year during the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany, LEGO gave attendees a glimpse of things to come with the LEGO Technic theme for summer 2019. So far, LEGO has unveiled four sets during the prestigious toy fair and same as before, only teasers and bits of info were shown to attendees. But with the release of the Dutch LEGO Catalog for the 2nd half of 2019 (which LEGO already took down from their site) which gave us a peek at the next LEGO Minecraft and LEGO Movie 2 sets, it also offers us a closer look at these new 2019 LEGO Technic sets as you can see below.

Compact Crawler Crane (42097)

LEGO Technic is also adding a new crane to its ever-growing collection of brick-built, heavy machines. The Compact Crawler Crane features several stabilizers and a working lift function quite similar to those from the Mobile Crane (8053) released in 2010.

Car Transporter (42098)

LEGO is throwing in another huge rig with this Car Transporter set that measures almost 3 feet in length (86 cm long to be exact). To add more play feature to the set, LEGO has also added a blue speedster that looks more like a smaller version of the Bugatti Chiron (42083). This scaled down muscle car build perfectly fits this mammoth-sized transporter.

X-treme Off-roader (42099)

It has been six years since we saw our first LEGO Technic with the Monster Truck (42005) released in 2013. Needless to say, it’s long overdue already and it’s nice to know that LEGO is now giving us a leveled-up version with the X-treme Off-roader. The set is powered and controlled using LEGO’s new Powered Up! Control+ system. You may have a better look at this set’s box images and features right here.

Liebherr R 9800 (42100)

Finally, we have the largest among these new 2019 LEGO Technic sets with the Liebherr R 9800. It also seems to be by far the most complex, and largest LEGO Technic set ever released coming in at 4,108 parts. It also utilizes the new LEGO Technic Control+ system that manages its two (2) Bluetooth SMART Hubs, three (3) XL Motors, and four (4) L Motors. Check out this video demonstration of the LEGO Technic Liebherr R 9800 (42100) courtesy of Zusammengebaut.

First Look at the LEGO Technic 4X4 X-treme Off-Roader (42099)

Earlier this year, LEGO has revealed a new line of LEGO Technic sets at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany. We even had a glimpse of one of the larger models in this new series with the introduction of the Liebherr 9800 (42100) and its new play and power functions. Since then, we only knew some of the set names of these new LEGO Technic sets and a possible release date of August 1. And now thanks to German toy store Wagner’s Spiel+Technikwelt GmbH, we now have our first look at LEGO Technic 4X4 X-treme Off-Roader (42099) box art, and a peek at the new LEGO Technic Control+ logo.

42099 1

42099 2

From what we can see, the 4X4 X-treme Off-Roader (42099) will require a smartphone or tablet via a Bluetooth connection and includes one (1) L motor, two (2) XL motors, and one (1) Bluetooth-controlled SMART Hub which uses six (6) standard AA batteries. It comes at 958 pieces and will sell for 229.99 Euros in Germany and the rest of Europe. Once built, this brick-built Off-Roader will measure more than a foot long, and at almost 8 inches tall.

According to the German toy store, LEGO provided them with this display set for customers to see ahead of its supposed August release date. The use of remote control devices is not something new to LEGO Technic sets. However, LEGO continuously pushes the boundary of certain innovations that integrate brick-built play with modern, mobile phone apps.

It is interesting to see how versatile these new app functions are, and how they give a new meaning to play. Now that LEGO has released copies of the LEGO Technic 4X4 X-treme Off-Roader (42099) to retailers, its just a matter of time before we get to see our first official images.

Thanks to Promobricks for the heads-up!

Fan of Rally Driver Ken Block Recreates LEGO Technic Version of His Custom Ford Mustang RTR

LEGO fans who also love awesome cars were the target of last month’s latest Creator Expert release, the legendary Ford Mustang (10265). The number of build options for the set, and the extras that were had during purchase, made it a sweet acquisition for collectors.

Still, some might had hoped that the Mustang was interpreted in another, more complex line. We need look no further than LEGO Technic for samples of magnificent automobiles. Let’s recall the Chevy Corvette ZR1 (42093), Porsche 911 RSR (42096), and the car/myth/legend Bugatti Chiron (42083). A LEGO builder just put together a Technic rendition of a particular Ford Mustang variant.

56514042_10156285877710765_1113525208414683136_n

Lachlan Cameron has recreated the trusty ride of professional rally and stunt driver Ken Block from the Hoonigan Racing Division. His creation is the mighty Ford Mustang RTR “Hoonicorn” V2, a black 1400hp racer made out of LEGO Technic pieces.

56439074_10156285877795765_8527658429496426496_n

All the indicators that this custom Mustang is that of Ken Block’s own are there: chrome finish, number 43, accurate decal stickers and flared fenders. The detailing is so accurate that Ken Block himself featured Lachlan Cameron’s work on his Facebook page. And why shouldn’t he be impressed? The build has functional steering and transmission, all-wheel drive, in-board suspension and lights, all via Power Functions.

For any LEGO Technic builders with pieces to spare, you can try building Ken Block’s Ford Mustang RTR “Hoonicorn” V2 yourself. Cameron has offered the building instructions for sale on the Rebrickable platform, if there are LEGO car enthusiasts interested.

New LEGO Technic Summer 2019 Sets Revealed

Following the reveal of the LEGO City 2019 summer sets at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, German LEGO fan correspondent Zusammengebaut continues his coverage of the events as they unfold at the LEGO showroom at the prestigious European toy fair. We’ve heard the first line-up of summer 2019 LEGO City sets, and this time, we now know that we will be getting four additional LEGO Technic summer 2019 sets slated to be available in August 1.

  • Spider Crane (42097)
  • Car Transporter (42098)
  • Off-Road Vehicle (42099)
  • Liebherr 9800 (42100)

The Car Transporter (42098) is interesting since Zusammengebaut describes it as  2 builds in 1, with one build as the same size as that of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (42093),  and another for the Car Transporter itself. This set is second to the largest of the four sets coming in at 2,493 pieces.

The Spider Crane (42097) is another 2-in-1 set that comes in 920 pieces, while the Off-Road Vehicle (42099) comes with the new CONTROL+ system, three Power Functions motors, and independent suspensions.

lego technic 42100

The last set in the list could be the most complex among the four LEGO Technic Summer 2019 sets. The Liebherr 9800 (42100) comes at 4,108 pieces and includes seven Power Function motors that are individually controllable allowing for a wider range of movement. It also has two smart hubs and features the new digital CONTROL+ system.

It definitely looks like LEGO is levelling up its next generation of Technic sets following these new innovations. I’m not so much into LEGO Technic, but this are surely exciting sets to watch out for in August.

Stay tuned for more updates! Special thanks once again to Zusammengebaut for keeping us in the loop and sharing these images.

2019 LEGO Technic Set Images Revealed

After the reveal of 2019’s new batch of LEGO City and Creator sets, now comes another wave of reveals this time from the LEGO Technic line. Snapped again by avid LEGO fans over at store shelves of Mastermind Toys stores in Canada, we now have our first look at these new Technic sets courtesy of Brickset. These new 2019 LEGO Technic sets are expected to be available worldwide sometime this December.

From  the looks of it, these seems to be the smaller LEGO Technic sets that are slated to be released next year, with two larger sets – a Corvette and a crane similar to that to the Forest Harvester – yet to be officially revealed.

Let’s take a look at these new sets and let us know what you think of them in the comments section below.

LEGO Stunt School Ad Features Ace Racer Ben Collins

The LEGO Technic line doesn’t just simply go for near-authentic mechanical functions for their sets; they can also include the odd gimmick now and then. This is illustrated in the new LEGO Stunt School ad video on YouTube, which showcases the long-released Technic sets WHACK! (42072) and BASH! (42073), plus a special guest.

Said guest is celebrated British racer Ben Collins, who also appeared on BBC’s Top Gear both as himself (presenter) and as one of the stunt performance drivers under the collective identity of “The Stig”. The video presents him as “driving” both the WHACK! (42072) and BASH! (42073) sets as open-faced and tinted-helm versions of himself.

The LEGO Stunt School video depicts a boy playing with the LEGO  Technic WHACK! (42072) and BASH! (42073) sets, with clever camera editing that makes it look like both Technic sets have Collins on the wheel. Footage of the sets in motion are real, with the models running via their pull-back motor action as they wend their way around several other Technic sets, culminating in a neat sequence demonstrating the central sets’ primary Technic stunts.

42072 1
The LEGO Technic WHACK! (42072)
42073 1
The LEGO Technic BASH! (42073)

At one point the BASH! (42073) car collides with a wall, causing its engine to pop out – the other primary feature of it and its brother LEGO Technic set aside from its pull-back running function.

In interview, Ben “Stig” Collins remarked on the video, “This film was created not just for the awesome stunts but also to inspire children to think outside of the box when it comes to creative play. By showcasing my skills as LEGO’s official stunt driver, I hope to open children’s minds to the endless potential LEGO Technic offers when building.”

Collins says his children are big LEGO fans and the toy brand’s a major part of their family life. “It’s been a real pleasure to be able to combine my love of stunt driving with my love of LEGO in The Chase. I hope it inspires kids everywhere to create their very own epic stunts!”

Check out the entire LEGO Technic range at Shop@Home. None of the sets are retired yet; just out of stock if not listed as available.

Life-Sized LEGO Bugatti Chiron is Headed to the UK on November

The hype may have long died down at this point, but we’re sure lifelong LEGO fans can still remember the warm reception given to LEGO’s unbelievable achievement of using Technic pieces to create a working replica of the life-sized LEGO Bugatti Chiron sports car. By now that life-sized LEGO car may perhaps be more popular than the actual LEGO Technic Chiron (42083) introduced earlier in June.

We know that LEGO has sent their brick-built Bugatti Chiron on a European tour, making stops at racetracks or car shows along the way. The last we heard was that it was an “honored guest” at the Paris Motor Show this early October. Its next stop: across the English Channel.

16 Bugatti Ehra Photo Max Earey 60

Indeed, the life-sized LEGO Bugatti Chiron that impressed even veteran professional drivers despite its sub par top speed will now be making its way across the UK. On the first day of November it’ll be on proud display at the Westfield London.

Next, brick car will move to Westfield Stratford on November 3, before finally arriving at the Bluewater Dartford on November 8. So next month it’ll be England’s turn to get a closer look at The LEGO Group’s proud creation. Visitors will be allowed to rev the Power Functions-powered engine and fiddle with its other features.
