Official Packaging Design for LEGO Bricklink AFOL Designer Program Revealed

On September of last year, the LEGO-selling platform and building community Bricklink announced a LEGO partnership to host a set Designer Program for AFOLs. The number of submissions by interested AFOL designers was then pruned to 16 finalists. Preordering these neat sets began last February, and this week we get to see their official boxes.

It’s understandable that the packaging be showcased now. The Bricklink AFOL Designer Program preorder period will only be until April 15 after all. With each of the finalist sets being of varying sizes, so to for the boxes the LEGO bricks will be stored in.

To further sell just how unique these AFOL Designer sets are, they come with a “Thank You” card from Bricklink and the designers. In addition, they each come with large foldable and incredibly beautiful backdrops. As seen above, the background really makes Legopard’s Wild West Saloon even more imposing looking.

At the latest, 13 of the 16 AFOL Designer finalists have reached the needed preorder support to go into production by Bricklink. We offer congratulations to the well-supported designers and hope the prospective buyers enjoy their supported Bricklink sets when they arrive. Remember, preorder support ends next week, April 15.

Tuesday Marks 20th Anniversary of LEGO Star Wars Product Line

We at The Brick Show and all our fellow LEGO news sources have already shared that this year marks 20 years of LEGO Stars Wars. But when exactly does this anniversary of one of LEGO’s hottest product lines fall? It happened this week, April 9.

This past Tuesday, LEGO kicked off a milestone celebration of their IP franchise partnership, which eventually became one of their bestselling product lines. With over 700 sets released and more than a thousand different individual minifigures too, this is a big celebration. We’ve already seen an earlier beginning to the 20^th Anniversary craze with their anniversary-edition LEGO Star Wars sets.

“LEGO play and Star Wars is a dream collaboration for us,” says LEGO Star Wars Creative Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen. “This 20-year milestone is really a dedication and testimony to our loyal fans who have built, reimagined, battled and shared their LEGO Star Wars adventures with us for two decades.”

Speaking on behalf of Lucasfilm, Licensing VP Derek Stothard answers, “Our collaboration with the LEGO Group remains a huge success because it allows people to explore the Star Wars galaxy in a very unique way. Whether you’re meticulously building the Millennium Falcon for a display shelf or reimagining the battles with LEGO Star Wars models, the LEGO Star Wars range allows us to engage with fans of all ages who find the Star Wars galaxy as special as we do.”

Next LEGO Architecture Set “Trafalgar Square” (21045) Up for Signing Event at Leicester Square LEGO Store this April

The last significant things we heard regarding LEGO’s Architecture line was from last year. Two sets comprising what was supposed to be the first releases for 2019 came out November 2018 instead. We got nice skylines of San Francisco (21043) and Paris (21044) out of that. Now, word of a new set’s been (accidentally) revealed.

At least that’s how it seemed with an announcement by LEGO of a set signing event on their official Facebook page. The set in question is the latest Architecture set, numbered 21045. Rather than another skyline collection of a city’s famous structures, this one focuses on a certain London location.

Judging from the box image, LEGO Architecture Trafalgar Square (21045) is a beaut of a recreation. The set’s dominated by the National Gallery due north and Lord Nelson’s Column in the square. Fountains, statues, trees and (abstract) London vehicles on the roadways complete the picture.

LEGO designer Rok Zgalin Kobe will sign set boxes of his work on Architecture Trafalgar Square (21045) this coming April 27. He will be at the Leicester Square LEGO Store in London (naturally) from 11 AM to 2 PM local time. Each autograph seeker can only have two 21045 sets (and signatures) max per turn.

Next DLC for “LEGO DC Super-Villians”: 2 Movie Packs for Newly-Premiered “SHAZAM!”

“LEGO DC Super-Villains” from WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales came out in October last year. But since then it’s been graciously supported by the developers with regular DLC releases. The new downloadable stuff, which includes new costumes/characters and levels, come in many themes. A common theme with DLC releases times them with major Warner-DC films.

Following a tie-in DLC for “Aquaman” last year in “LDCSV,” the latest batch of additional content is now about the newly-premiered DCEU film “Shazam!” What’s even better is that the promotion for this DLC is being done by actor Zachary Levi, who plays Shazam himself in the namesake superhero film.

Specifically, the “Shazam!” pack for “LEGO DC Super-Villains” adds one stage based on the movie. It also adds Billy Batson and his foster-brother Freddy Freeman as characters. Billy can transform into his superhero alter ego Shazam, with Superman-like powers plus lightning attacks. In a film spoiler, the lame Freddy also gets the ability to transform via the power of Shazam.

With Billy/Shazam and Freddy in the spotlight, the stage is set to battle the sinister Dr. Sivana, host of the Seven Deadly Sins. Four of these sins can also manifest as separate monsters for the player’s characters to take down.

The “LDCSV” DLC pack for “Shazam!” comes in two parts. The first is available now to the game’s Season Pass holders (and owners of the Deluxe Edition). The second part arrives later on April 23.

Amazon Sale Discounts LEGO Star Wars Clone Scout Walker (75261) 20th Anniversary Edition

With so many LEGO sets having come out during this part of the year, having retailers discounting them is expected. For instance, Target has held sales of several tie-ins for “Avengers: Endgame” premiering this month. Amazon too has its fair share of new or recent LEGO sets at reduced prices.

Now, the global online marketplace has added another new LEGO set to its discount lineup. This is the LEGO Star Wars Clone Scout Walker – 20^th Anniversary Edition (75261). This is part of a legacy product lineup released just last week, celebrating two decades of LEGO Star Wars for franchise fans.

While priced at $29.99 over in Shop@Home, Amazon has helpfully done its usual 20% price knockoff on the set. LEGO Star Wars collectors can thus get the Anniversary Scout Walker (75261) for $23.99 on Amazon. It’s a beautifully intense throwback to the Clone Wars saga as rendered in LEGO form.

The LEGO Star Wars Clone Scout Walker – 20^th Anniversary Edition (75261) is full of great builds. Aside from the walker itself, there’s also a Separatist war machine and a Kashyyk Wookie gun mount. Minifigures include a Wookie, Kashyyk Clone Trooper, Battle Droid, and a 1999 edition Darth Vader collectible minifig.

More “Toy Story 4” LEGO Sets Not in Initial Previews Discovered in Target

We knew tie-in sets for Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” were coming as far back as last year. In February we even got to see the first images of them. The previews showed some simple sets geared for young builders. But those were only the first wave, with the next products actually released without much fanfare.

Two additional LEGO Disney “Toy Story 4” tie-in sets recently were found already available on retail. The discovery was made at a Target store by LEGO-fan YouTuber Just2Good. Both sets are of the 4+ designation. Still, while basic in construction they offer lots of features.

First on the reveals is Duke Caboom’s Stunt Show (10767). This set features a motorcycle stunt spectacle featuring Evel Knievel expy Duke Caboom, with Woody a reluctant hanger-on. It features a ramp, two parked obstacle cars, ring of fire, a promo board, and a motorcycle ridden by Duke Caboom and Woody for the big jump.

Next we have the Buzz and Bo Peep’s Playground Adventure (10768). It features a nice playground gym build with climbing wall, ladder bridge, slide, a go-kart and merry-go-round. Aside from minifigs of Buzz Lightyear and the missing Bo Peep, they’re also joined by the warm yet sinister talking doll Gabby-Gabby.

The Target store pricing for 10767 is $19.99 while the larger set 10768 is $24.99 instead. Just2Good hasn’t shared any further info regarding where else these nice “Toy Story 4” LEGO sets might be found. Still, Target’s a good place to start looking for them.

Promo Details Out on How to Get LEGO Marvel Avengers Tower (40344)

Normally when we hear about LEGO “gift-with-purchase” promotions, we think of little polybags or small box sets. But once in a while they throw in something big too. Last month a LEGO Store flyer from Spain revealed a LEGO Marvel Avengers Tower set (40334). It too was labeled a gift-with-purchase.

It needs to be said that more recent LEGO promotions are more difficult to pin down due to LEGO Store Calendars no longer listing them. Weeks have passed since the flyer reveal without word on the promo that’ll give away the Avengers Tower (40334). Last weekend, we wondered no more.

For a brief time on the Offers and Promotions page over at Shop@Home, LEGO spilled the beans on the promo details for Avengers Tower (40334). It can be gotten at a minimum $75 total purchase in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes products. The promo period will run from April 19-May 2.

The Avengers Tower set (40334) is a nifty micro-scale built of the former New York Avengers HQ as seen in the MCU. It comes with a micro Quinjet model (suspended by clear parts on the tower launch-pad) as well as an Iron Man minifigure with removable helmet. Its approximate price value is at $19.99 stateside.

Getting the minimum $75 LEGO Marvel set purchase to avail this promo should be easy. There’s rumor that the official tie-ins for July’s “Spider-Man: Far from Home” might release April 22. That should provide enough new-set fodder to spend big.

LEGO Ideas Contest Winner Gift-w/-Purchase Set “Space Rocket Ride” (40335) Found in Croatia

Over a year ago, a certain challenge was held for members of LEGO Ideas. The winner of the “LEGO Moments in Space” would’ve had his creation be turned into an official LEGO set that is “gifted with purchase.” The winner was announced in March 2018, though the actual set production won’t be until this year.

Just when it seemed like Ideas member and challenge Grand Winner mjsmiley’s coin-operated “Cosmic Rocket Ride” may have been forgotten, the official set’s finally been spotted. German LEGO news source Promo Bricks originally reported last month that the LEGO “Space Rocket Ride” (40335) may have surfaced in a Croatian LEGO Certified Store. Now however, they have tangible proof of it.

Promo Bricks has gone to Croatia and actually gotten one of set 40335 from there, as seen in their Instagram page. Interestingly, they made no mention of it supposedly being a gift with purchase. Perhaps they actually bought it over-the-counter?

As can be seen between the original contest build by mjsmiley, and the official set numbered 40335, LEGO expanded on the design. The Space Rocket Ride has a bigger platform base. While likely still operated by a crank in the back, the base also includes a “functional” coin slot to insert LEGO coin elements in.

If this isn’t a region exclusive then hopefully collectors outside Europe can soon find LEGO Space Rocket Ride (40335) on their Shop@Home or local shop. Maybe then we can have definitive knowledge on whether or not it’s a GWP promo or a conventionally purchasable set.

Can’t Get Special LEGO Star Wars Vader Bust (75227) Set? LEGO Releases Official Parts List and Building Instructions

The arguable summit of fandom celebration for the “Star Wars” franchise within a year will take off in full force next week, as Chicago plays host to the annual Star Wars Celebration. There will be plenty of media panels for all existing and upcoming “Star Wars” media, not to mention exclusive merchandise for avid collectors.

As we already know, LEGO has its own stake in the exclusive merch. This is the special LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Bust (75227). Only a select number of these will be acquirable by lottery during Star Wars Celebration, while the rest of the limited numbers will be made available only to Target REDCard members.

But what about those who can’t make it to Chicago bon April 11-16 or don’t have a Target REDCard? LEGO can help with that. The 327 pieces that are assembled to form the Vader Bust (75227) are mostly common LEGO. So what if you only need to know which pieces are needed, and steps on how to put them together?

As of now, the official parts list and instructions sheet has been made available by LEGO. That’s event ahead of the LEGO Star Wars Vader Bust (75227) set coming out on the Star Wars Celebration Chicago event and Target RedCARD.

LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary New Edition 2019 Finally Released

The LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary New Edition 2019 has been finally listed over at Amazon and is now made available to the general public.

As LEGO is a constantly evolving toy line, many reference materials produced in partnership with publishing companies need updating now and then. For instance, the LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary from Dorling-Kindersley UK first arrived in 2009 and received only an expansion in 2014. That promise has finally come.

Here’s What to Expect from the LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary New Edition 2019

It’s just like companies working on products and merchandise related to a major IP to time their releases during a significant milestone. DK Publishing has just released the new and updated LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary New Edition 2019, just in time for the LEGO Star Wars 20^th Anniversary. Amazon has the hardcover reference book listed, and major bookstores carrying LEGO books should already be stocking it on shelves.

We probably didn’t forget but just in case: like most other LEGO books from DK and several other partner publishers, this visual dictionary comes with a bonus exclusive minifigure. Revealed this February, we know it’s going to be Finn in his Bacta Tank suit from Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.
