LEGO Technic 2-in-1 Sets Arriving in 2019

It seems LEGO is taking their reveal of new Technic sets for 2019 in stages. Twice before in this week alone, two batches of upcoming LEGO Technic were revealed. The latter group included one set touted as a LEGO Technic 2-in-1, a model that could have two possible configurations at any time.

Wonder of wonders, we have another wave of LEGO Technic sets for 2019, and they’re both of the 2-in-1 style. That’s mighty generous of LEGO to have vehicle models that can be altered with a few pieces being changed around. And the re-configurations seem even more striking here than with the Remote-Controlled Stunt Racer (42095).

Tracked Loader (42094)

The set’s alternate 2-in-1 form is a tracked flatbed truck.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (42093)

You’re no fan of Bugatti or Porsche? Then what do you think about this racing Chevy that can be altered into a retro-style exposed-engine hotrod?

lego technic 2019 42093 0001 lego technic 2019 42093 0002 lego technic 2019 42093 0007

And apparently, there’s going to be more on the way for LEGO Technic as we head towards the end of 2017 2018. Come to think of it, with the Porsche and Chevy sets already announced, what are the chances that LEGO might replicate their life-sized Bugatti Chiron with any of the two? It’s a nice thought.

LEGO Shop@Home Black Friday Discount Page Now Up

Happy Black Friday shopping to the avid readers of The Brick Show. By now, all promo and discounts we have detailed in past articles to happen of Black Friday are in effect. Whether they might be on retailers, LEGO Stores or Shop@Home, it’s your choice now for the best LEGO bargains you can go for. The LEGO Shop@Home Black Friday discount page is now up, and the featured set on top is the LEGO Iconic Chess Set of 2017 (40174), easily one of the most impressive brick-builds for actual gameplay, be it chess with the LEGO-designed pieces or with checkers.

The Iconic Chess Set (40174) sees its $54.99 price cut down to $38.49, no better deal perhaps for one of the best-rated sets on Shop@Home. For LEGO Stores on the other hand, the elusive LEGO Ninjago Bricktober Minifigure set (5005257) is ready for the buying. Don’t let this day pass.

Like the Shop@Home banners say, discounts for Black Friday on selected items can go up to 30%; one exception however is the retiring LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office set (10246). The advertisement we covered yesterday saying 20% off for it got changed somehow. Discount is only 10%; but better than nothing.

First Images of the LEGO Regional Sets Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner (80101) and Dragon Dance (80102) Released

Earlier this month, The LEGO Group revealed its plan of offering regional sets that will be released exclusively in China in honor of its partnership with the said country, and its growing LEGO fan base in the area. Back then, we only had a sneak peek on these two sets which are slated to arrive in January 1, 2019. And this time around, we now have more images of these LEGO regional sets in the form of the Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner (80101) and the Dragon Dance (80102) sets courtesy of Promobricks.

Though it’s nice of LEGO to create sets that reflects the local region of a certain place or country (which it has been doing quite prominently in Asia), some fans in other parts of the globe are still a bit disappointed that they can’t get these sets directly from their nearby LEGO Store. Fans may probably just have to resort in buying overpriced sets from the secondary markets in order to add these to their collection.

In any case, these LEGO regional sets are excellent themselves – the Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner (80101) is vividly colored with various printed elements and stickers, while accentuated with various Chinese symbols that signify hopes of wealth and prosperity. The selling point of the Dragon Dance (80102) on the other hand, is probably its moving mechanism very similar to that of the new LEGO FORMA set. The collection of brightly colored minifigures plus the Piggy Guy from CMF Series 12 makes this set a sure win.

Let’s take a closer look at the images below, and feel free to share your thoughts about these in the comments section below.

2019 LEGO Minecraft Sets Get First Images

Earlier this month, we shared the first details of a new wave of LEGO Minecraft sets due to be released this 2019, courtesy of a German-language source. That comprised only of European prices and descriptions, but no photos of what the sets look like. Well, we can wonder no more. Thanks to a Dutch LEGO news source, Bouwsteentjes, we now have images of the boxes and completed builds of the five 2019 LEGO Minecraft sets revealed to arrive next year. With three articulated brick-built Minecraft character figures and two action play-sets, there’s plenty to enjoy with this new product wave.

They’re all reasonably priced sets and a splendid return by LEGO to one of their most popular licensed game franchises. We still have no word as to when these 2019 LEGO Minecraft sets will be made available to the public, but its most likely to be during the first quarter next year.

More 2019 LEGO Star Wars Sets To Launch This December

Yesterday we had our first look at the initial wave of 2019 LEGO Star Wars sets to be made available next month. And this time around, it looks another batch of new LEGO Star Wars sets will be added to the roster in the form of another Battle Pack, Microfighters, and a couple of 4+ sets completing the initial wave of LEGO Star Wars sets to be offered in the first quarter of 2019. Some fans are divided with regards to LEGO’s choice of sets to herald the new year, except for the minifigure Battle Packs, and the nice rendition of the Dewback in Microfighter form. Let’s check out the rest of these sets, courtesy of The Brothers Brick.

If at First You Don’t Succeed: “A Christmas Story” Model Once Again Submitted to LEGO Ideas

Late last year, twrt0es submitted a build on the LEGO Ideas platform in the hope that it might become an official set. His theme was the cult classic Holiday movie A Christmas Story, particularly the house that was its primary setting. It passed for the 2017 3rd Review, but failed to impress the panel enough.

Well, the creator feels it was a good idea that shouldn’t be forgotten after one setback. So twrt0es has completely revamped his A Christmas Story House idea and created a more generalized multi-component set for LEGO Ideas. There are less bricks but more play-acting fun.

Instead of a whole house, the new set only comprises the first floor of the Parker residence, though it makes sure to include the plot-relevant details such as the fireplace, radio and the big lamp. New to the set is a rendition of the iced-up flagpole scene, and the Christmas tree-bearing family car to boot.

For minifigures twrt0es has expanded the original set (bunny-PJ Ralphie, Randy, and the parents) with a cowboy-variant Ralphie, two hounds from the Bumpuses and Flick who got his tongue stuck on the flagpole. All in all, the possibilities of playing and posing are upped despite the lower LEGO piece count.

The original Christmas Story House managed to get up to 10K support in time for the 2017 Holidays. Now, twrt0es is hoping that the old supporters might be willing to support his new spin on an old project one more time. We wish him well.

The LEGO Movie Streaming For Free on Black Friday

By now it’s plain to the LEGO community – and perhaps the cinema-going community as a whole – that The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is a major big deal. Considering the runaway success of the original back in 2014, it’s no surprise that the anticipation for it’s gone fever pitch. And perhaps, the excitement for the LEGO Movie sequel can only be escalated even more by a most generous gesture from LEGO and Warner Bros. in time for Black Friday. They’ve inked a deal with video-sharing giant YouTube to do something incredible: to have The LEGO Movie streaming for free.

Oh, yes. LEGO-Warner and YouTube are going big when it comes to hyping up the further adventures of Emmett, Wyldstyle and friends by giving fans a free viewing of the first big film from this epic franchise. It’ll help everybody refresh their memories of four years ago, in preparation for the sequel’s coming next year.

To avail of the free LEGO Movie streaming, fans need only visit YouTube on Black Friday, watch the latest trailer for The LEGO Movie 2, and clicking the ad to watch the first LEGO Movie, free of ads (because it’s inserted as an ad itself). Speaking of TLM2’s newest trailer, you may want to check out our review and fan theory surrounding the sequel’s official trailer

But remember! This window lasts only for all 24 hours of Black Friday/November 23. In addition, it may only be available within certain territories, not worldwide (a big bummer, really). As for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, don’t forget that it premieres next year on February 8, 2019.

Names Revealed for Other Members of “Benny’s Space Squad” from “LEGO Movie 2”

By now, the second big trailer for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part has come out, and with it the reveal of the 2019 official tie-in sets for the film also releasing with it next year. The fact that it involves “aliens” from space would explain the prominence of new character Rex Dangervest and returning face Benny the spaceman.

One the LEGO set front, Benny’s sudden importance is reflected in the set “Benny’s Space Squad” (70841), a marvelous throwback to LEGO’s 1980s space line, with basic-build space vehicles and additional astronaut minifigure buddies for Benny, the titular Space Squad.

To further hype this particular LEGO Movie 2 tie-in, film executive producer and LEGO VP of Design Matthew Ashton revealed the names of Benny’s Space Squad teammates, which would also be known through the back of their box. Besides Benny we now have Kenny (yellow), Lenny (pink) and Jenny (white).

Perhaps the comedic part of this is that all members of the Space Squad are identical in appearance barring uniform colors (and the wear-n-tear on Benny). So it’s quite surprising that the pink astronaut isn’t named Jenny; seriously the names can be easily mixed up, which may be the point.

legomovie2nd70841back

LEGO Movie 2 Benny’s Space Squad (70841) comprises Benny and his team, plus a robot buddy, a lunar buggy, one-man shuttle and various tools including Jenny’s gun (emphasized in the product description). Priced at only $9.99 it’s a steal for fans of The LEGO Movie 2, premiering February 8, 2019.

Retiring LEGO Creator Detective Office Set (10246) Being Kept in Reserve Until Black Friday Sale

If you’ve been keeping up with LEGO news here with us on The Brick Show, you may recall an update detailing the first wave of announcements on LEGO sets soon to retire. One of them is the LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office (10246), which is also currently listed as being out of stock on Shop@Home.

But wait. According to this other report, the Detective’s Office (10246) is supposed to be one of the spotlight sets for LEGO’s Black Friday Exclusives and Sales; specifically, it’s to be discounted by 20% from November 23 to 26. How’s that going to happen when it’s out of stock not just online but reported at LEGO branded stores as well?

The answer’s rather simple: LEGO’s holding units of 10246 from being sold. All sets announced as “retiring” have in fact already stopped being manufactured; so LEGO believes they may not have enough “Detective’s Office” sets left to keep from selling out with Black Friday’s discount.

Considering 20% off means the LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office (10246) is going to be worth $127.99, that’s a major markdown for a set that’s going to be running low. If collectors miss it now, they might miss it forever.

Alternatively, one might find that Amazon has its own stock of Detective’s Office (10246) that can be gotten via Prime shipping. It doesn’t seem to have a discount here, but it’s probably better than nothing.
