90th Anniversary LEGO Classic Set 90 Years of Play Listed by French Retailer

The company that gave the world “The Brick” is celebrating nine decades this 2022. We’re talking about LEGO, of course. They’ve been preparing for this near-century milestone since way back last year. And already we’re bracing to see the classic themes voted to be revived in that LEGO Ideas activity.  Of course, it’s not just selected old LEGO themes making a comeback to celebrate their 90th anniversary. New sets from active LEGO themes are on the way too. While LEGO is keeping some of them close to the chest for now, other avenues aren’t. A French retailer’s already revealed one.

11021 1

As told by Brickset, a 90th anniversary commemorative LEGO Classic set has surfaced at online retailer La Grande Recre. The LEGO Classic theme, as you know, replicates the old-school LEGO set aesthetic, where the included bricks can build anything. LEGO Classic set 11021 is no slouch at this, the better to celebrate 90 Years of Play. If the box art is any indication, the included pieces in set 11021 can create builds across multiple established themes. Want to assemble a horse-drawn carriage, or a wheeled duck pull-toy? How about a spaceship, or police station, or a pineapple head? 90 Years of Play (11021) can help you do that and more.

La Grande Recre (before removing the listing) priced this LEGO Classic set at €49.99. We may be looking at comparable price range once 90 Years of Play (11021) gets listed at LEGO Shop US. Furthermore, there was no release date, so that’s another detail to look forward to later on.

“LEGO Bricktales” Puzzle Game from CloudStone Announced for 2022

LEGO has long established a presence in the videogames scene since the mid-1990s, believe it or not. While recent LEGO games from Traveller’s Tales and WB Interactive are considered definitive, they’re not the only ones. Much like the LEGO experience as a whole, there have been multiple genres given the LEGO spin over the decades. The scale seems to go from more action-oriented titles like the upcoming “Skywalker Saga,” to something more cerebral. So this past weekend LEGO announced a new upcoming videogame. As told by The Brick Fan, this title is being developed by the company that brought us the “Bridge Constructor” simulation-puzzle series.

“LEGO Bricktales” is the latest addition to the LEGO gaming library courtesy of ClockStone Studio and Thunderful. Think of ClockStone’s earlier “Bridge Constructor” puzzle games. These involve the player having to build a bridge over a river/ravine. Limitations range from being given a set number of pieces or buying pieces on a given budget. Now give that simulation-puzzle premise a LEGO makeover. Now the situations explode into numerous possibilities across various brick-built locales. Challenges might include, as seen in the trailer below, building a helicopter to rescue stranded minifigures. Can you get it done using the LEGO pieces provided? How many attempts might you need?

The announcement trailer provides no further details on ClockStone’s “LEGO Bricktales” other than it releasing sometime this year. Perhaps like “Bridge Constructor,” this LEGO game could see a multi-system launch. That includes the usual WB-TT videogame haunts of PlayStations, Xboxes, the Switch and PC. It’s already confirmed on Steam. There’s also iOS and Android to consider. Hopefully we’ll get more “LEGO Bricktales” trailer soon so we’ll know more of what to expect from this offering.

LEGO Avatar Theme Confirmed by Disney, Lightstorm Entertainment

New themes for LEGO sets are always welcome for fans and collectors. And if the theme happens to be from a licensed IP, then it’s all the better. Beyond just the cool sets we can expect, licensed IP LEGO themes have the potential to become even more. We’re talking “videogames and TV/movies” more. That’s why recent rumors of a new LEGO theme codenamed “coconut” have generated lots of interest and speculation. First it was the believed return of the short-lived LEGO Indiana Jones. Then it was trumpeted to be LEGO Avatar, based on James Cameron’s sci-fi blockbuster franchise. It may as well be confirmed now.

The Brick Fan tells us that LEGO has indeed scored a license to make sets out of the “Avatar” films. Curiously, this comes not from LEGO but Disney, which now owns 20th Century Films that released the 2009 blockbuster. Its long-awaited sequel “Avatar 2” will premiere in the 2022 holidays. Lightstorm Entertainment, which produced the “Avatar” films, told License Global about their planned merchandising collaborations. According to Lightstorm President Kathy Franklin, they gave LEGO rights to make sets for the original movie and follow-up. They’re supposed to be action sets recreating key moments from “Avatar” and the upcoming “Avatar 2.”

In line with that, we already have rumors of the first four sets for the LEGO Avatar theme. These items carry set numbers 75571-75574, ranging in price from $40-140, and expected to launch this October. Now we know the line’s actually coming. Perhaps the speculation can move onto what film scenes or perhaps vehicles may be adapted into LEGO sets. Meanwhile, “Avatar 2” brings back Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and amazingly Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. Michelle Yeoh and Vin Diesel join James Cameron’s sequel, premiering on December 16, 2022.

LEGO Star Wars Death Star Trench Run (75329) Listed on Amazon Spain

It’s come to our attention that new upcoming LEGO Star Wars set reveals are getting rather spread out lately. You may recall last weekend a set due to be revealed by Walmart on their Collector Con this week. We could rest assured that it wasn’t the only new LEGO Star Wars stuff this time of the year. It was just an assumption that others may be listed online at LEGO Shop. Perhaps that could’ve been how things played out, if not for some early peek-a-boos courtesy of Amazon in Europe.

As told by Brickset, the Spanish Amazon website prematurely listed another hot LEGO Star Wars item. What we got is an awesome diorama depicting the Death Star Trench Run (75329). Who can forget this scene from the very first “Star Wars” film (“Episode IV – A New Hope”) back since 1977? The set features a cross-section of the Death Star Trench. Luke Skywalker’s Red 5 X-Wing blazes through with TIE Fighters led by Darth Vader on his tail. Clear parts suspend the starfighters in dynamic poses. According to the Amazon.es listing, details on Death Star Trench Run (75329) were at least made known. It has 665 pieces and a €59.99 price tag, and will release May.

If you recall, the LEGO Star Wars Trash Compactor set supposed to debut at Walmart Collector Con was numbered 75329. That’s no longer the case now, but apparently the set’s still on. The Collector Con kicks off March 24, and hopefully we’ll get better info on that upcoming release too.

Notting Hill Market by Lepralego Joins LEGO Ideas First 2022 Review

Some locations in the world are so iconic that they feature prominently and often in popular culture. Landmark structures serve as obvious identifiers of locales like London’s Big Ben, or Paris’ Eifel Tower. Sometimes however, a location doesn’t need to be iconic in that sense to get tourists flocking to it. They may be something as simple as a street or neighborhood like Broadway in New York City. You can go further down and have it be a cozy neighborhood that still grabs attention. That would explain perhaps this new 10-K addition to LEGO Ideas First 2022 Review Stage.

ideas lepralego nottinghillmarket 01

The Notting Hill Market is the brainchild of Ideas 10K Club Member Lepralego. Yep, it’s his second submission to hit 10-K support and join the First 2022 Review after the Magical Village. Lepralego replicates a portion of London’s Notting Hill district, particularly the outdoor market at Portobello Road. This section of Notting Hill encapsulates the area’s artistic, fashionable and multicultural character. It’s no small surprise that pop culture has set some stories there. There’s “Bedknobs and Broomsticks,” “Paddington Bear” and 1999’s “Notting Hill” itself starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.

ideas lepralego nottinghillmarket 02

As you can see here, Notting Hill Market is a busy street-scene set. Rows of shops face market stalls just off the roadside curb. And if you think the outdoors are all there’s at, the shop building interiors are pretty sweet too. If Lepralego should see this set approved in review,  then Notting Hill Market could be a potential hit.

ideas lepralego nottinghillmarket 03

No LEGO City build of London would feel completely well-rounded without it. It’s a good dream, and we wish Lepralego luck with this product idea. Hopefully it and Magical Village over the Bridge won’t cannibalize each other’s support to the LEGO Ideas reviewers.

Mind-Blowing Playable Character Number in “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” Revealed in Early Access

The month of March is now on its way to winding down. LEGO videogame fans couldn’t be any more impatient with the passing of time. And we can hardly blame them. WB Games and Traveller’s Tales are bringing their biggest LEGO Star Wars title to multiple platforms in early April. “The Skywalker Saga” will LEGO-fy the events of all nine “Star Wars” films, plus spinoff movies and series as DLC. We’re talking a sprawling space opera franchise with loads and loads of characters. Players can expect a massive playable cast with this LEGO Star Wars game. But how large is the cast we’ll be getting?

It’s plenty massive, according to Brick Fanatics. Their source is YouTube gaming channel Lunar Squadron. They’ve gotten early access to “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.” Earlier estimates of LEGO and gaming news sources confidently number the characters as well over 300. Lunar Squadron notes the game has 380 playable characters available after full unlocking. Was that humongous for you? WB Games and TT are just getting started. Recall the DLC we featured earlier this month. They numbered 38. And that’s not all. One character is digital-exclusive. Three others can be gained from access codes in some certain LEGO Star Wars sets. That’s 422 characters.

Picked up your jaw from the floor already? At this we can only say bravo to Traveller’s Tales and WB Games for their years-spanning work. “Skywalker Saga” really is the ultimate LEGO Star Wars videogame. Look forward to its release this April 5 on Sony PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, Microsoft Windows and the Nintendo Switch.

The Orient Express Gets 10-K Support on LEGO Ideas

After a lull in submissions, the LEGO Ideas First 2022 Review Stage is filling up with new product ideas again. One of the latest additions is the third train build for this batch of aspiring LEGO sets. We’ve already gotten a magical train to the North Pole and the world’s oldest electric hanging-car elevated railway. What has this new product idea got to make itself stand out? Ideas 10K Club Member LEt.sGO decides to go with historical weight. And what’s more, this LEGO model train will be a hit with fans of old-style detective stories. Have you read Agatha Christie’s?

ideas letsgo orientexpress 1

If that last bit wasn’t any obvious, LEt.sGO has built a cool depiction of the Orient Express. This long-distance train service was begun by a Belgian company in 1883 to bridge Western and Eastern Europe. At its maximum extent, the express ran between London, UK or Paris, France, and Istanbul in Turkey. It actually operated until 2009 (connecting only Paris and Vienna at the end).

ideas letsgo orientexpress 2

The build by LEt.sGO replicates the Orient Express rolling stock circa 1930s, with engine, tender and dining car. The car might be memorable to fans of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” and its film adaptations. The details in all the components are exquisite.

ideas letsgo orientexpress 3

LEGO Ideas First 2022 Review has now passed the 30-submission mark, with no indication of being closed anytime soon. We’ll have to wait and see which of the Polar Express, Wuppertaler or Orient Express trains make it. That is of course not considering the other product ideas in the group.

LEGO Star Wars The Trash Compactor (75329) to be Revealed in Walmart Collector Con this March 24

Usually, upcoming LEGO set reveals are done by the company itself. It tends to go down in their online shop too, for obvious reasons because the product listings go there. But sometimes new LEGO stuff could be unveiled somewhere else, by another hand not necessarily of LEGO’s. This might happen with a LEGO-carrying major retail brand like Walmart. Beyond mere set discounts, Walmart also boasted some exclusive multi-set value packs in the past. But their upcoming event for collectors of toys and more will serve as a stage for an unveiling. Apparently LEGO has a new set to introduce there.

This comes to us courtesy of The Brick Fan. Thursday next week, March 24, will see Walmart hold the Collector Con. This convention will see some new toy releases and launches, including from LEGO. Fancy a new LEGO Star Wars set based in the original movie trilogy? LEGO looks to be dipping far back into the original 1977 “Star Wars” film with The Trash Compactor (75329). Franchise fans will recall Luke, Han, Leia and Chewbacca being momentarily trapped in the Death Star’s waste disposal. We can expect minifigs of the OG “Star Wars” heroes (with Luke and Han in Stormtrooper gear). Possible other features include the compacting walls and maybe a buildable Dianoga trash monster.

Walmart Collector Con will run March 24 to 25. Collectors will be given time windows to order their fave products three times per day. Going by Pacific Standard Time, these will be at 7AM, 12NN and 5PM. Walmart also plans more Collector Con events later on, coinciding with SDCC in July and NYCC in October.

LEGO Creator Expert Back to the Future Time Machine (10300) Officially Listed at Last

Ever since LEGO Cuusoo (now LEGO Ideas) released the “Back to the Future” DeLorean Time Machine (21103), fans knew. They somehow knew, nearly a decade after that set’s release, that the time machine car would be revisited LEGO-wise. Sure, there have been false alarms, like last year’s alleged new DeLorean being a Creator Expert Pickup Truck (10290) instead. But fans of LEGO Back to the Future (repped by long-retired one-off sets) never lost hope. The latest rumors insisted that the DeLorean will return in the LEGO Creator Expert line this year. And so it did.

We’re happy to share thanks to news from Brickset that the iconic DeLorean is back in official brick-built form. Say hi to the Creator Expert Back to the Future Time Machine (10300). Doc Brown’s DeLorean comes with enough accessories to depict its various configurations across the “Back to the Future” trilogy. The Doc and Marty are also available in minifig form, even if their ride isn’t to scale with them. The April 1 release date checks out, and thankfully it won’t be a joke. At last, collectors that have waited some time can soon get their hands on this set. Here’s some official listing snippets:
