It’s finally New Year’s Eve now, and the latest year-end gift shopping activities would be winding down now. Well, except perhaps for the LEGO buyers and collectors. There are lots of new sets debuting January first after all, and even several of them that were actually released early, like the tie-in sets for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. Chances are, almost all the LEGO Movie 2 tie-in box sets that we previewed at the beginning of the month have been available since last week. There are a few exceptions though, like the adorably retro Benny’s Space Squad (70841) that throws back to classic-era space-themed LEGO minifigures like Benny. It’s appeal to AFOLs is unmistakable considering that this is the first time LEGO is re-releasing these classic Space minifigures.
This set is only on back order at LEGO Shop@Home, but some diligent searching online can turn up some early appearances for Benny’s Space Squad (70841). Amazon has it, and while it won’t be in stock until January 9, it’s still sooner than Shop@Home; but there are other, still-earlier listings.
For instance, both Target and Barnes & Noble have the set already available, certainly online and at some of their stores. Thankfully they have a zip code search so you can ascertain if your nearest Target or B&N stores have set 70841 already in stock.
The LEGO Movie 2 Benny’s Space Squad (70841) features the 80s LEGO spaceman/Master Builder Benny and his identical (but differently-colored) teammates Kenny, Lenny and Jenny. The film itself premieres February 8, 2019.
As well-established in the original LEGO Movie in 2014, and its spinoff The LEGO Batman Movie in 2017, minifigure characters based on DC superheroes are prominent in the LEGO Movie-verse (given it’s produced under Warner Bros. which owns DC). We can certainly expect the usual LEGO DC characters when The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part arrives February next year.
One particular DC hero that viewing fans are interested to see is Aquaman, who recently headlined his own solo live-action film this December starring Jason Momoa. While his LEGO rendition was a blink-and-miss-it background cameo in LEGO Batman’s movie, for LEGO Movie 2 he’ll be front and center, and reimagined.
The official LEGO Movie 2 Instagram page just previewed the first image of LEGO Aquaman as redesigned to fit his current iconic look from Jason Momoa’s portrayal. It’s well known since the 2018 San Diego Comic Con that Aquaman voiced by Momoa himself will have an expanded appearance in the sequel. The interesting thing is, he might not replace the default LEGO Aquaman at all.
Seen in the short clip above, shirtless Momoa-Aquaman had just used the comic-accurate yellow-green costumed Aquaman as a surfboard. Having both variants in LEGO Movie 2 opens up lots of possibilities in future film installments.
The LEGO Movie 2 will premiere February 8 next year.

This news has been floating around the internet for a couple of days already, but I feel like it has not caught up wind with the majority of the LEGO fan community. We’re literally counting the days before the year ends, and this means that several LEGO store outlets have already received their share of LEGO catalogs for the first half of 2019. Thankfully, we have one LEGO fan that managed to take hold of a copy of the 2019 LEGO catalog in Polish, and has taken time to upload a video of its contents. And to our delight, other than the January 2019 LEGO sets that we can expect to be available this December and January 1st, we now get to see as well the much-anticipated LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigure Series (71023). Check out the following video, particularly at the 19:10 mark.
Based on a rough Google translation, the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigure Series (71023) is expected to arrive in LEGO Stores in May, 2019. This CMF series also comes with its series of costumed minifigs which will be a sure hit to LEGO fans: Giraffe Guy, Watermelon Guy, and Crayon Girl. It also prominently features the classic characters from the WIzard of Oz such as Dorothy Gale, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, and the Tin Man. We don’t have an official list of character names for this new CMF series, but Minifigure Price Guide came up with a tentative list of names that we can use for reference. I modified some of them to better fit their description.

The LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigure Series (71023) is one of the many tie-ins that you can watch out for in 2019. Be sure to check the rest of the LEGO Movie 2 sets slated to debut next week at shop.LEGO.com.
In this day and age, it seems like the release of new trailers for upcoming films are awaited with the same intensity as for the movies themselves. Viewers of these trailers, who are anticipating the films, tend to want to see more details of the plot and events, sometimes without regard for potential spoiler alerts. Now, Warner Animation Group’s The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part has already gotten a few trailers out. We have a general gist of the plot (Bricksburg turning to a wasteland after the attack of the Duplons, Emmet chasing a Systar General who have kidnapped his friends), and this time the LEGO Movie 2 international trailer seems to “fill in the blanks”, as it were.
New scenes featured in the LEGO Movie 2 international trailer flashes back to the end of the first movie, where Emmet and the gang first encountered the innocent-looking Duplons. Emmet tries to make a peaceful first contact (creating the ‘Piece Offering’ we see in the same-named Emmet’s ‘Piece’ Offering polybag). Obviously, it fails and we get to see its result later on.
Other scenes that elaborate on the storyline include fight sequences during the Duplon invasion of Bricksburg, plus Emmet asking Rex Dangervest to “teach him how to be tough”. Good luck, Emmet.

Hey, we’ve got another report concerning The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. We hope you’re not bored with them yet, especially as this one relates to the film itself, rather than the tie-in sets we’ve been featuring in days past. In particular, this concerns The LEGO Movie 2 promotional cinema standee.
Many major Hollywood blockbusters usually go beyond just cinema posters for hyping their movies and include freestanding ads like cinema standees. LEGO news source Brick Fanatics has shared an image of the LEGO Movie 2 standee (courtesy of Flickr member Penciller Zero), featuring a LEGO-spaceship already familiar to fans that have seen the film’s other promotional images.
Remember that image of the starship with the round window? That’s the vessel of the Systar General Sweet Mayhem, who abducted several of the LEGO Movie master builders including Emmet and Wyldstyle. The ship is rendered in the standee, with the captive master builders Batman, MetalBeard, Unikitty and Benny inside the window. Plus Mayhem, Emmet and Wyldstyle freely standing outside and to the vessel’s sides.
It’ll be great to see this impressive LEGO Movie 2 promotional cinema standee being set up in a major theater near you as we all look forward to the release of The LEGO Movie 2 in February next year. We hope your local cinema gets one of these for those brick-loving groupies.
Some good things never last, and sometimes the end comes all of a sudden. For the majority of LEGO fans who are looking forward to next year’s LEGOLAND LEGO Star Wars Days, then it might be prudent to consider that there is none to expect any more from Merlin Entertainment (owner of the LEGO Star Wars Days hosting locations). A report from LEGO and Star Wars insider Rebelscum mentions the sad news that the much-anticipated celebrations will no longer take place in all LEGOLAND locations, with the very last of these events held last month at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester, NY.
Rebelscum states that they’ve received official word from Lucasfilm that says, “2018 would be the last year they do them”, referring to the highly attended LEGO Star Wars fan event. Word on the streets has it that Lucasfilm and Disney are now focused on preparing to reset the longstanding franchise, with expenditures being rechanneled so as to minimize and limit Star Wars exposure. It seems to be part of a master plan to somehow help the Star Wars faithful move on from the Star Wars that we used to know, towards new and unchartered territories that will somehow reboot the decades-old franchise.

It is also possible that Disney is now consolidating all of its Star Wars related properties and theme parks in order to bring them under one roof. Only time can tell if this will be the path that Disney and Lucasfilm have chosen. But what is sure right now is that fans of the LEGOLAND LEGO Star Wars Days is better off not to look forward to another event like this, that yielded so many attractions such as a large-scale LEGO Millennium Falcon made out of 250,000 bricks, and several hard-to-find minifigure promos.
We now have our second LEGO Movie 2 polybag hot on the heels of the recently revealed Mini Master-Building MetalBeard (30528). Brickset has recently updated its database, and we now get to see the sequel’s second tie-in polybag in the form of the LEGO Movie 2 Star Stuck Emmet (30620) polybag, If you recall from the official trailer, we get to see Sweet Mayhem causing havoc in the already torn down city of Bricksburg in pursuit of Lucy and Emmet. The battle-ready citizens of Bricksburg run for cover as they flee towards the Bat Cave. The moment that Emmet, Lucy and Unikitty finally made their way to Batman’s fortress, one of Sweet Mayhem’s Star Bombs got stuck in between the massive gates of the Bat Cave.
Unfortunately for our heroes, Emmet can’t resist the adorable, seemingly hurt Star Bomb and eventually gave in and opened the gate. Eventually, LEGO managed to capture those huge gates in microscale form with the LEGO Movie 2 Star Stuck Emmet (30620) polybag. Though Emmet is present in almost all upcoming LEGO Movie 2 sets, making it relatively easy to get one, this new polybag a cost-effective way to grab that new Emmet minifigure.
Small as it may seem, this set also features a moveable gate that opens and closes using a gear and wrench piece. It also replicates the massive gates using several sand green Nexo Knights shield pieces and includes two printed tiles that show two alternate expressions of the Star Bomb.
Unlike the Mini Master-Building MetalBeard (30528) polybag which was reported to have been spotted at several Walmart stores, we don’t have any word yet on where to find the Star Stuck Emmet (30620) polybag. We’ll let you know once more news comes in, or feel free to give us a tip if ever you spot one of this. This next eBay listing finally puts all doubt to rest with regards to a LEGO Movie 2 D2C set. As early as September, we already made mention of a possible a direct-to-consumer (D2C) set that is tied-in with the LEGO Movie 2 sequel. It is somewhat expected considering such a large and promising theme such as this one. Though LEGO has already released a huge stash of new TLM2 sets slated to be available in January, we are yet to see what the theme’s D2C set will be. As it seems, we don’t need to wait that long to have a glimpse at this year’s first direct-to-consumer set. Coming in at 3,178 pieces, we now have our first glimpse at the LEGO Movie 2 Welcome to Apocalypseburg! (70840) set, and a handful of minor spoilers that are revealed through this set. Check out the following images taken from a post uploaded by eBay seller suaresaman.
Though not exactly scaled as that from the movie (which will be rather difficult and huge if it will be rendered to an actual LEGO set), the designers were able to accurately copy the head of the Statue of Liberty and add some impressive details on it. Welcome to Apocalypseburg! (70840) also sports several play features that are put together in a modular style building. There are also some interesting building techniques that are highlighted in this set, such as how the arm of the Statue of Liberty is also used as a ladder, and building the head of the statue in such a tilting manner.
But what could be the most interesting aspect of the set is its large selection of minifigures: we get to see Scribble Cop, Larry the Barista, Fuse Fulminant, “Where Are My Pants?” Guy, Roxxi, Chainsaw Dave, Mo-Hawk, Harley Quinn, Green Lantern, Wasteland Batman, Lucy and Emmet.
As mentioned in the trailer, everyone (perhaps with the exception of Emmet) in the once peaceful and thriving town of Bricksburg was definitely affected by the events of Taco Tuesday. The attack of the Duplons really left an impression in the lives of Bricksburg’s minifigure residents. We even get to see a battle-ready Scribble Cop, which frankly, came in as a surprise because as far as the cast is concerned, it is still yet to be revealed whether or not Liam Neeson’s minifigure character will return for the sequel. From the looks of it, we’ll be seeing the split-personality cop once more though it is quite uncertain if he will have a larger role to play in the film.
It’s also a welcome surprise to see “Where Are My Pants” Guy in a new mean-looking garb. He still has his floral shirt on, but now with several leather straps, and of course, minus the pants. By far, it also looks like that this is the first, and perhaps the only set, where we can have Mad Max versions of Larry the Barista and Surfer Dave (now dubbed as Chainsaw Dave). We also get another Wasteland Batman, which first made its appearance in the Battle-Ready Batman and MetalBeard (70836). Overall, it a nice selection of minifigures that complements the wacky tone of the Welcome to Apocalypseburg! (70840) set. I was just hoping that LEGO could have added the Sewer Babies just for good measure.
The eBay listing is still up as of this posting. But at $450 in the secondary market, I guess we’re better off waiting for the official release of this next D2C set. Thanks to Scott for the tip.
We’ve waited several months on end to learn what the subtitle would be for MCU’s Avengers 4, the conclusion to the finger-spanning-ly tragic Avengers: Infinity War last April. Now, we know it’ll be called Avengers: Endgame, bringing Phase 4 of the MCU franchise to an end nearly a year to the day after the last one, on April 2019. Seeing as the MCU, and Marvel in general, are quite popular subjects in licensed LEGO sets, it was inevitable that not only the company itself but its solid fandom would start paying tribute to this long-awaited monumental superhero film. And they’re doing it through these fan-made LEGO Avengers: Endgame trailers.
Two particular versions of these painstakingly produced fan-made LEGO Avengers: Endgame trailers using real LEGO bricks and minifigures have now garnered attention over on YouTube. They’re both the work of stop-motion LEGO animators with longtime channels on the video-sharing platform.
First off, we have this all-natural no-frills interpretation courtesy of Bricky Studios:
And then we have this enhanced brick-rendered trailer from Huxley Berg Studios, which blends the plastic actors and sets with some rudimentary but appropriate special effects to blow minds:
That’d give Brickfilm Day’s Bohemian Rhapsody trailer a good run for its money in effects-blending. Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame is set to premiere on April 26 next year. For comparison’s sake, we’re linking the official movie trailer here for you.
