A Look at All the LEGO Vidiyo Minifigures We Know So Far

The LEGO Vidiyo sets are now officially revealed. And while they are currently listed over at LEGO Shop@Home, I couldn’t help but admire what LEGO did with its line-up of LEGO Vidiyo minifigures. Aside from the six LEGO Vidiyo BeatBoxes that were announced as part of its first wave of offering, LEGO has also introduced the LEGO Vidiyo Bandmates Series 1 (43101) and its roster of colorful, beat-vibing characters.

As I’ve mentioned before, I do appreciate what the LEGO designers came up with these minifigure series. Strictly speaking, they’re not part of an official LEGO Collectible Minifigures series (CMF) but I’m sure LEGO fans (me included) have a special spot for these guys on our display shelves. I guess it’s safe to say that if ever there is a ‘musical’ LEGO CMF series, then this one will easily pass for it.

So what do we know so far about this roster of new minifigure characters and what can we expect them? Thankfully, Brickset has updated its database to now include the names of these new LEGO Vidiyo Bandmates minifigures, together with those included in the BeatBox collection. Let’s take a closer look at all eighteen of them.

With 18 minifigures and a handful of BeatBits tiles to collect, this first wave of LEGO Vidiyo minifigures sure had a strong start. Brickset has listed other sets in this new theme that are yet to be revealed. Will it be a larger set, somewhat similar to a concert stage? Or perhaps a recording studio? Well, I’m pretty much inclined to think towards that. Whatever is the case, the minifigures in this wave will surely be added to my collection. Who is your fav character so far? Let us know in the comments below.

The LEGO Vidiyo sets are scheduled to be released this March 1st, 2021, and are now listed over at LEGO Shop@Home.

LEGO Vidiyo Sets Officially Revealed – Slated to be Released in March

After spotting them in the wild a couple of days, LEGO has finally made it official and has now unveiled its first wave of LEGO Vidiyo sets. As per the LEGO Group’s press release, this announcement just came in time together with the upcoming debut of the very first official live-action version of the LEGO Vidiyo DJ Llama minifigure, aka L.L.A.M.A. (ok… that’s pretty creative).

This first series of LEGO Vidiyo sets puts the spotlight on the theme’s minifigure characters in the form of BeatBoxes and their pretty neat cases and variety of BeatBits accessories. As mentioned before, these special 2×2 scannable printed tiles overs a wide variety of audio-visual enhancements when used in conjunction with the LEGO Vidiyo app. Much the same way as how the previous Nexo Knights shield pieces work.

But I guess the highlight of this series for me is the LEGO Vidiyo Bandmates Series 1 (43101). I simply love how LEGO designed this bunch as they can easily pass as a new collectible minifigure (CMF) series. But since they are not arriving in the usual blind polybags but instead in mystery carton boxes, I really don’t know how you can get the character that you want just by holding their packaging. However, I’m looking forward to what LEGO has in store when they offer a complete set of these characters. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Additionally, each Bandmate comes with 3 BeatBits tiles, and if you’re looking to gather all these nicely printed tiles, then be aware that there are a total of 92 pieces to collect.

This first LEGO Vidiyo offering is expected to arrive in LEGO brand stores and online starting March 1. For more info on these upcoming sets, you may click on the following LEGO Shop@Home affiliate links below. Which one is your favorite LEGO Vidiyo character? Let us know in the comments below.

LEGO Ideas Minifigure Keychains Now Available at LEGO Shop@Home

Well, here’s one way to gather your LEGO Ideas Central Perk minifigures. In case you missed it, LEGO Shop@Home has been updated with new minifig-inspired gears in the form of several LEGO Ideas minifigure keychains featuring the characters of the iconic hit TV series F.R.I.E.N.D.S. And in case you’re into collecting the minifigure characters, then grabbing these dangling accessories is a no-brainer.

This series of minifigure keychains consists of Ross, Chandler, Joey, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe. For some reason, LEGO opted not to include a minifigure keychain version of Gunther (the Central Perk’s ubiquitous manager). I guess it’s a marketing strategy for adult LEGO fans to get the LEGO Ideas set itself (wink, wink). Whatever is the case, getting these LEGO Ideas minifigure keychains is a great way to add them to your collection if you’re not planning to purchase the LEGO Ideas Central Perk (21319) set.

You may click on the following affiliate links below to know more about these keychains, with each of them retailing for $5.99.

LEGO Vidiyo Sets Spotted In the Wild

Last month, LEGO has launched its new augmented reality inspired theme in the form of LEGO Vidiyo sets. From what we learned so far from The LEGO Group’s official press release, this latest theme fuses LEGO’s top-notch AR-tech with music offered by Universal Music Group, allowing LEGO fans to create their own unique music using special LEGO BeatBits tiles and a proprietary app.

This time around, thanks to LEGO-loving mom @marleylego, she managed to bag some of these sets and shared her discoveries over on Instagram. She spotted these LEGO Vidiyo sets placed on an early sale at a Meijer store considering that they are still expected to be released on March 1st.

Thanks to this early discovery, we can now confirm how three of these LEGO Vidiyo sets will be like. As I’ve mentioned before in my earlier report, it seems that LEGO intends this theme to consist of an entirely new collection of minifigure characters that can easily pass as a CMF series. Based on the media assets that LEGO has shared, and now confirmed by @marleylego, these LEGO Vidiyo sets will have their own unique roster of interesting minifig characters.

Aside from its appealing aesthetics, there are also plenty of play features that go along with these LEGO Vidiyo Beatbox sets. The pretty cool LEGO Vidiyo minifigure characters also come with their own set of Beatbits printed tiles. These decorative 2×2 tiles somewhat function similarly to the scannable Nexo shield pieces that came with previous LEGO Nexo Knights sets, offering a ton of special audio-visual effects when used together with the LEGO Vidiyo app. Another thing worth noticing is that the LEGO Vidiyo Beatbox sets come with their own stage and minifigure case. I like what LEGO did here by adding a collectible case that doubles as a carrier designed as a headset.

I hope to see more of these LEGO Vidiyo minifigure characters anytime soon as we approach its launch date on March 1st. I’ll give you updates once LEGO Shop@Home uploads more info. Special thanks also to Promobricks for the tip.

LEGO Bags Four Wins at the 2021 Toy of the Year Awards

In a virtual gathering of play professionals and toy fans around the world, The Toy Association’s 2021 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards were held online, and LEGO once again dominated several of the Toy Awards’ categories. Considered the Oscar Awards of the toy industry, the annual awards are usually held in New York City where enthusiasts gather together to witness what toys in 16 categories will have the prestigious title of being the toy of the year. However, due to the current pandemic, the event was live-streamed enabling more people across the globe to witness the event.

Last year saw LEGO bringing home the trophy for three categories in the 2020 Toy of the Year Awards, including Construction Toy of the Year (LEGO City Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control 60228), Specialty Toy of the Year (LEGO Stranger Things 75810), and STEM/STEAM Toy of the Year (LEGO BOOST Star Wars Droid Commander 75253).

And this time around, LEGO’s winning streak continues in 2021 with 4 out of 16 awards eventually bagged by The LEGO Group, besting 117 outstanding finalists in various categories.  Check out LEGO’s winning entries below. You may also click on the following affiliate links if you wish to know more about these winning LEGO sets.

Winner: Collectible of the Year – LEGO Super Mario Character Packs (71361)

2021 Toy of the Year

Winner: Construction Toy of the Year – LEGO Star Wars The Razor Crest (75292)

75292 1

Winner: Playset of the Year – LEGO Super Mario Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle Expansion Set (71369)

2021 Toy of the Year

Winner: Specialty Toy of the Year – LEGO Ideas Grand Piano (21323)

21323 1

Eventually, the highest and most coveted Overall 2021 Toy of the Year Award went to Hasbro’s Star Wars: The Child Animatronic Edition Toy. This Hasbro creation was also awarded the Innovative Toy of the Year Award for 2021.

If you recall, the last time LEGO managed to receive the Overall Toy of the Year Award was back in 2017 where the visually stunning LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster (41130) was awarded the best toy of the year by the majority of retailers, consumers, media and TIA members at that time. It will be nice to see a LEGO set bagging the overall toy of the year award once again, and we’ll have to see if LEGO can pull it out for the second time in the next awards.

What do you think about this year’s winners? Do you have a LEGO set in mind that you think should have made it for the 2021 Toy of the Year Awards? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.

Six New 2021 LEGO Monkie Kid Sets Revealed

In case you missed it, six new LEGO 2021 LEGO Monkie Kid sets are slated to arrive this spring. The news of their arrival came from another third-party retailer, Momoshop, in Taiwan. Though their images have been eventually taken down by the website, eagle-eyed LEGO Monkie Kid fans were quick to take notice and took it to social media to share their discovery.

If you recall, LEGO somehow teased on the arrival of this 3rd wave of LEGO Monkie Kid sets when the Monkie Kid’s Team Dronecopter (80023) was first revealed during one of China’s trade fairs from last year. During which LEGO also revealed that it has seven (including the Team Dronecopter) 2021 LEGO Monkie Kid sets slated to arrive in the first quarter of the year.

Thanks to Momoshop and later on to Promobricks, we can see what to expect from this 2021 wave which is expected to launch on March 1. Check out these images.

There are a couple of sets here that will surely end up on my LEGO wishlist which includes the Lion Guardian and Arachnoid Base. Now with a total of 22 sets since its introduction last year, the Monkie Kid theme certainly looks better than ever. We still have another set waiting to be revealed, tagged as set 80017, and a polybag in the form of the Mini Monkey King Warrior Mech (30344) which could be in the form of a promotional. Whatever is the case, we can expect LEGO Shop@Home to be updated in the next few days to include all of these new 2021 LEGO Monkie Kid sets so stay tuned!

Mega Construx Will Launch its Own Brick-Built Fender Stratocaster

In a rather perplexing turn of events, rival building bricks company Mega Construx has now made it official that it will be launching its own version of the iconic Fender Stratocaster. In a recent tweet by the company, it has announced to the world that it has collaborated with Fender, and will be having a pre-sale from February 13-14 this weekend.

I really don’t know if there will be any IP-related issues or conflicts that might arise from this one, considering that LEGO has now made it official that it will also release its LEGO Ideas Legendary Stratocaster. But from the looks of it, Mega Construx has the advantage of an early release considering that they’ve already announced their pre-order offers. Mega also opted to give a sort of teaser image of what we can expect from this set, which is quite impressive actually. The scale and other fine details of this set and how the Stratocaster’s curves have been emphasized are spot-on.

mega construx fender

Though Mega Construx has plenty of third-party licensed IP sets under its belt such as its line of buildable Pokemon, Call of Duty, and Halo sets, I am still looking forward to seeing LEGO’s own version of a brick-built Stratocaster.  Not really sure about the legalities of it all but it begs the question, is it really possible to have two brick-built versions of the same branded musical instrument offered by two rival companies? If that is the case, then will it be possible to see a line of LEGO Nintendo Pokemon sets in the future? It’s enticing to reflect on this question considering that we have seen that a LEGO-Nintendo collab is entirely possible with the introduction of its LEGO Super Mario sets. And now that LEGO and Mega Construx has somewhat agreed to offer their own version of the Fender Stratocaster, then it might be possible in the future that they may agree on the release of other similar titles or IPs. Well, we can only speculate at this point.

The LEGO Ideas Legendary Stratocaster is one of the seven (7) approved product ideas that the LEGO Ideas Team is currently working on. These include soon-to-be-revealed sets such as Seinfeld 30th Anniversary, The Earth Globe, Home Alone – McCallister’s House, Typewriter, Winnie the Pooh, and the recently announced Sonic Mania: Green Hill Zone, and Vincent van Gogh: The Starry Night.

Special thanks to Stone Wars for the tip.

LEGO DQ Institute is Here to Teach Children About Digital Citizenship

In this day and age of unprecedented internet activity, it is a breath of fresh air to have an advocacy that centers on helping children and perhaps adults as well, to understand what it means to be a responsible digital citizen. This is precisely what LEGO had in mind when it recently struck a partnership with DQ Institute – a leading think tank and advocacy group that promotes online safety and responsible digital skills.

LEGO DQ Institute

Taking it a step further from its advocacy of using renewable and sustainable resources in its products, LEGO now sets its vision on helping children and their parents understand what it means to be digitally intelligent. DQ or Digital Intelligence includes building empathy towards others online to be aware, sensitive to, and supportive of one another in an ever-growing online community. And what better way to teach these life lessons is through the introduction of LEGO’s new online hero minifigures. These new characters are currently up over at LEGO’s Safer Internet Day minisite, teaching children several aspects of digital intelligence. The site begins with a quick quiz to help children and visitors know more about what type of online hero they are and presents them with scenarios where they can flex their DQ or digital intelligence. You will be guided throughout by Captain Safety and will be introduced to his team of online heroes.

LEGO DQ Institute

Frankly, it will be nice if LEGO will eventually come up with physical counterparts of these new minifigure characters, and perhaps see a set or two dedicated to these LEGO DQ Institute characters:

LEGO DQ Institute
Sir Hug A Lot – who embodies online empathy.

Butterclops
Butterclops – a representation of online self-awareness.

AeroVision
AeroVision – designed to help children acknowledge the perspectives of other people

AdmiralHighFive
Admiral Highfive – a character created to talk about being kind online.

For more information about this new LEGO Group initiative, you may check out their official press release right here.
