LEGO Children’s Amusement Park (40529) and Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533) GWP Sets are Now Up!

Last week we got a full-image preview of a rather anticipated LEGO Ideas GWP set. Said set made grand winner of a LEGO Ideas contest from last year, and was created by Ivan “buldoozer” Guerrero. A new creation from the guy that brought Ideas collectors the 123 Sesame Street set (21324) is a must-have. But with this being a gift-with-purchase item, when exactly does its promotional period go live? As it turns out, it starts this week. Even better, the Ideas GWP Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533) isn’t alone in availability.

Cosmic Cardboard Adventures 40533

From German LEGO news source Promobricks, we now know two GWP sets begin their promo period this Monday, May 16. We already know one of these sets, Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533). Now we can confirm that it’s accompanied by the adorable Children’s Amusement Park (40529). But let’s get to the important part: how much in total LEGO purchases for each? Well for Cosmic Cardboard Adventures, collectors will get it for over $160. Children’s Amusement Park, with just 170 pieces to the latter’s 203, will go for $90 in LEGO purchases. GWP set 40529 features a swinging boat ride, hammer-strength tester and ring toss, with two park-goer minifigures enjoying the attractions.

Both Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533) and Children’s Amusement Park (40529) are available as GWPs until May 30. This of course assumes that supplies will last for both of these items.

New LEGO Ideas GWP Teased to VIPs: Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533)

Early last year, LEGO Ideas launched a contest themed after space travel and exploration. The guiding rule for entry submissions was that the builds be “out of this world.” Ultimately the Ideas crew chose as the grand winner the creation of Ivan “bulldoozer” Guerrero. Yep, he’s the same LEGO fan builder behind the nostalgic LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street (21324) from 2020. His entry, The Adventures of the USS Cardboard, would be tapped as the inspiration behind LEGO’s next gift-with-purchase (GWP) set. After a year’s wait, we now have word from the LEGO Group. The Ideas submission-turned-GWP set now has a new name, set number, and promo period in the form of the LEGO Ideas GWP Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533).

Brick Fanatics reports that LEGO has released a teaser for the LEGO Ideas Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533) gift-with-purchase set. A single complete image was found in the official LEGO VIP newsletter. Compared to the original work by Ivan Guerrero, the official Ideas set offers a near-exact replica. The “spaceship” still looks like it was made primarily of cardboard. The bedroom walls serving as background even have nearly the same shade of blue. One notable difference is the lack of robots from Ivan’s version. But now the bedroom astronaut’s teddy bear gets a power-walker harness. All told, this looks like a keeper GWP.

LEGO VIP didn’t specify when the gift-with-purchase period for the LEGO Ideas GWP Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533) set will start. They did reveal that the Ideas mini-set will be available for a total LEGO purchase of $160 up. It may be too late to join the LEGO Star Wars May the 4th bandwagon. Still, Ideas GWP 40533 can’t be that far away. A bold estimate of the promo period is sometime within this May. Let’s wait for LEGO’s official word.

LEGO Super Mario Princess Peach’s Castle (71408) Teased Ahead of Mar10 Day Event

By now, we can perhaps safely say that LEGO Super Mario isn’t just a one-off gimmicky product line. It may well be a new long-running LEGO theme all on its own, with regular set launches year after year. Having electronic buildable characters from the Nintendo videogame franchise electronically interacting with the sets is sheer genius. Every new set released can potentially be a new interactive playground for the LEGO Mario Bros. And if you think the sets launched last January were all there is for 2022, think again. In fact, LEGO Super Mario is soon expanding its playable brick-built characters.

As told by Brickset, LEGO has spoiled us with its next big Super Mario tie-in: Princess Peach’s Castle (71408). A now-deleted post on LEGO’s Instagram inadvertently revealed this bombshell. But we’re sure to get the low-down very soon. That’s because Thursday, March 10, is being celebrated as Mar10 Day. (Mar-10, get it?) The event already graces the front page of LEGO Shop online. No word on Peach’s Castle. Still, other LEGO Super Mario promotions are taking center stage. The upcoming set 71408 features a Castle build inspired by “Super Mario 64.” But it features cross-franchise characters like Bowser Koopa, Ludwig Koopa, Toadette and more.

Mar10 Day Details

Meanwhile, Mar10 Day is bringing back some cool stuff according to The Brick Fan. During March 10-24, LEGO Super Mario purchases worth $40 will again get the Fuzzy & Mushroom Platform (30389) polybag. This GWP already ran in August 2021 so apparently LEGO still has stock left. In-store shoppers can bring their LEGO Mario/Luigi figures to the nearest LEGO Store to receive the Super Mario coin. Finally, LEGO is offering three bundles of past Super Mario sets. Buying them will net not just VIP points (if member) but also Nintendo Platinum Points.

These set bundles can only be gotten on LEGO.com, so grab them if you haven’t already.

2022 LEGO Easter Seasonal GWP (40527) Available Early at Certified Stores in Australia

While LEGO keeps to a timetable in launching their newest upcoming sets, it doesn’t always happen without any deviations. Sometimes some sets or GWPs would be delayed in coming or never show up at all. Conversely, these items might appear on store shelves before their official launch date as given by LEGO. This could happen even in certified or branded LEGO Stores. We even touched on one such case of early availability not long ago. As it happens, a new seasonal GWP set for this year has popped up before its time, just Down Under.

Brickset has it that certified LEGO Stores now have available the Easter 2022 seasonal GWP has appeared in Australia. Said Easter gift with purchase set (40527) can now be found in several Australian certified LEGO Stores. It wasn’t specified however if these items were conventionally purchasable, or have their GWP pricing active. The GWP consists of a buildable Easter egg and two yellow chicks. It’s possible that the egg is big enough to contain the chicks once assembled. Under normal circumstances, LEGO would launch the 40527’s GWP period on April. For Aussie collectors though, they may have an early start.

Don’t confuse this with the purchasable seasonal Easter Rabbits Display (40523), which launched this February.

IWD2022: LEGO Jane Goodall Tribute (40530) GWP Period Now On

It’s International Women’s Day this March 3, 2022. And as they have done so in years past, LEGO has a special commemorative treat to mark the occasion. Of course, it comes in the form of a gift with purchase set. The woman being honored by LEGO in 2022 is a name easily associated with chimpanzee research and conservation: Jane Goodall. The Brick Fan confirms with us that the Jane Goodall Tribute (40530) set is now available as GWP. LEGO buyers can get one with a minimum purchase of $120. That’s from March 3 to 15 or until supplies run out.

A Jane Goodall Tribute Gift

Celebrate an icon of conservation by honoring famous ethologist Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE. Comes with a Jane Goodall minifigure plus 3 chimpanzee figures. As an advocate for species preservation and environmentalism, young builders can pay tribute to her legacy. The set includes elements made from sustainably sourced plant-based plastic. Receive this gift with LEGO purchases of $120 or more, available 3/3-3/15 while supplies last.

Jane Goodall Tribute (40530) GWP for International Women’s Day 2022, Beginning March 3

Never let it be said that LEGO isn’t appreciative of the role of women in the history of the world. Beyond just the theme lines like Friends and such, LEGO has paid tribute to notable women through occasional special sets. Who can recall the LEGO Ideas Women of NASA (now retired) from 2017? Or, more recently, remember the GWP Tribute to Amelia Earhart (40450) from early last year? Speaking of which, there has already been a buzz about a new Tribute GWP. The subject is arguably the world’s most famous expert on Chimpanzees. A LEGO Certified Store has confirmed this.

Brickset reports that a Jane Goodall Tribute (40530) will be coming soon as a GWP in March. Like Amelia Earhart last year, this GWP period covers International Women’s Day on March 8. Confirmation comes from a promo image released by a Singaporean LEGO Certified Store. The gift-with-purchase period starts on the 3rd next month, with a total qualifying LEGO purchase of SG$165. Converted to US$ that would be around 120, so it’s not a hard limit to reach. The set is a diorama featuring Jane Goodall and her chimpanzee friends in a jungle canopy. It’s a nice tribute to one of the great scientists to show us more about primates.

Interestingly, this GWP period somewhat overlaps with LEGO’s VIP double-points event for the US. At worst, it may end just as the VIP promo begins. We’ll just have to see.

Alternative Build Ideas for LEGO GWP Vintage Taxi (40532) on Rebrickable

Late last January, LEGO launched a GWP set that went with its New Year 2022-released Creator Expert Boutique Hotel (10297). It was a cool-retro Vintage Taxi (40532) that came with a buildable roadside taxi stop. Pairing it with the Boutique Hotel building somewhat nailed the setting as a European-Parisian locale. But for those who feel the Vintage Taxi design is too old, never fear. A builder from LEGO MOC website Rebrickable has seen plenty of potential in the GWP set’s component pieces. He has a multitude of building options for 40532 to share, using only the pieces inside the set.

1000x800 sports

This nifty feature is shared to us by Brick Fanatics, which caught wind of Rebrickable member Keep on Bricking’s work. He has an astonishing 16 alternate build instructions for the LEGO Vintage Taxi (40532) set. You think the vehicle’s early-mid-20th Century aesthetic is too old for your own neighborhood build? Why not redesign the cab into a convertible? How about a sports car or SUV? Keep on Bricking even made a mind-blowing Batmobile build, using only the 163 pieces of set 40532. These alternate instructions are sure to pique the Master Builder in many LEGO collectors/players. Just check out his page on the Rebrickable website.

We’ve taken a look at Rebrickable quite recently before too. That was with Viv Grannell aka toastergrl, creator of the LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog (21331). She offered some alternate building ideas for the set’s buildable characters like Doctor Eggman.

LEGO Star Wars Defense of Hoth (40557), GWP Vintage Taxi (40532) All Available

Last week, some LEGO Star Wars stuff that got held back from the January 1 release blitz finally became available. One of them, Clone Trooper Command Station (40558), complements the massive UCS AT-AT (75313) from last year. That vehicle build has a massive passenger section to carry multiple Imperial Stormtroopers for a Battle of Hoth scene. Of course, that key event from “The Empire Strikes Back” wouldn’t be complete without Rebel Alliance combatants. Thankfully, as The Brick Fan reports, the Rebel counterpart of the above set, Defense of Hoth (40557), officially launched this past Wednesday.

In a heroic mirror to Clone Trooper Command Station, Defense of Hoth also features three Rebel troopers. Like the Stormtroopers from 40558 with their command station, the Rebels from 40557 are augmented with heavy-weapon emplacements. Both sets are also priced at $14.99 for proper symmetry. Collect both to play out the heroic but doomed defense of Echo Base from the Original Trilogy, or change things around. It’s up to you.

On a more recent note, the gift with purchase for LEGO Creator Expert Boutique Hotel (10297) is active. That would be the Vintage Taxi (40532) set we showcased earlier this week. As Brickset reminds us, this GWP goes for LEGO purchases over $200 from Friday, January 28 to February 13. This is a LEGO-fied depiction of the 1930s Citroen Traction Avant, which goes nicely with Boutique Hotel’s retro styling. Collectors who’ve already purchased Boutique Hotel (10297) might be bummed at the late arrival of Vintage Taxi (405320). Still, surely there are other new LEGO sets that might be enough to get you the needed threshold.

Next LEGO GWP: Vintage Taxi (40532) Coming Jan-28

Late last year, we got the first bits of news regarding an upcoming LEGO Creator Expert set, a modular one. Said set would mark the 15th anniversary of these modular building sets that began with 2007’s Café Corner (10182). This was unveiled in December 2021 as the Boutique Hotel (10297) that launched this January 1, 2022. But the earlier rumors noted that the set would be paired with a 15th anniversary GWP, numbered 40532. Boutique Hotel came out without word of 40532, which was said to become a GWP sometime this month. As January comes to a close, we finally have info on this item.

Courtesy of German LEGO news sources Promobricks, we now know GWP set 40532 as Vintage Taxi. To match with the retro aesthetics of Boutique Hotel (10297), Vintage Taxi (40532) does look like a classical taxicab. The vehicle is all yellow and black with room for driver and a backseat passenger. Said cabbie looks like he drives in the streets of Paris a few decades ago. The 163-piece GWP set also includes elements to make a roadside taxi stop and garbage can. This GWP will supposedly launch on January 28. It’ll be available with minimum LEGO purchases of €200, which matches Boutique Hotel’s European SRP (US$199.99).

Do note that this GWP info must be considered a rumor until LEGO gives us official word.

Chinese New Year LEGO Sets, GWPs Now Available in US/Canada

As January 2022 goes on, LEGO is moving on from the Holiday seasonal and New Year product launch blitz. Next on the special occasion agenda: the now LEGO-elevated Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations. And back in 2021 we saw what we could expect from LEGO to mark the event. Like Brickset, we’re now getting this straight from LEGO.com itself, in lieu of the now-discontinued monthly Store Calendars. It’s a slight change in routine but that’s all. And now, with the 2022 Chinese New Year seasonal sets available, so too is the accompanying GWP since Monday.

The Animal Zodiac LEGO GWP Year of the Tiger (40491) went live this past January 10. Its launch coincides with the availability of the official 2022 Chinese New Year LEGO sets in US and Canada. For those needing a refresher, they’re the Lunar New Year Traditions (80108) and Lunar New Year Ice Festival (80109). Either of these will suffice to clear the $85 LEGO purchase threshold for the Year of the Tiger GWP. Alternatively, buying over $40 worth in LEGO Monkie Kid or Ninjago sets will net a second GWP (polybag). Monkie Kid’s Underwater Journey (30562) could be yours if you favor the above themes.

While the LEGO Monkie Kid polybag has a GWP period end (January 27), Year of the Tiger (40491) doesn’t. In any case, this month is the golden time for getting your choice seasonal sets to claim the gift. Chinese New Year 2022 falls on February 1, for reference. That in mind: Go get ‘em, Tiger.
