Building Instructions Available for LEGO Brand Store (40528), New GWP for Store Openings

LEGO gifts-with-purchase sets run the gamut from common and easily-acquired, to being uncommonly rare. The latter group goes beyond merely being in-store exclusive for instance, but rather because their availability becomes highly situational. Now, since 2012 LEGO’s been presenting GWP sets available only during the openings of their new Branded stores. The building set depicts, naturally, a brick-built LEGO Store as well, with new iterations introduced every few years. Given how uncommon new LEGO branded stores open worldwide, their accompanying GWPs are limited too. With the retirement of the most recent LEGO Brand Store set (40145), a new version was previewed at last year’s end.

And according to German LEGO news source Promobricks¸ building instructions for the new LEGO Brand Store (40528) are now available. They can be found, as usual, in LEGO.com’s Building Instructions portal. As you can see in the box image, we’ve a fully-enclosed build for the next GWP exclusive for new LEGO Store openings. It doesn’t even feature a single minifigure, but has a sticker sheet included for added details. The introduction of this LEGO Store (40528) GWP couldn’t come at a better time. The previous set 40145 was already in low quantity even before retirement this year.

In fact, 40145’s scarcity the reopening of LEGO’s branded store in Bonn, Germany used another LEGO Store set as GWP. Said micro-scale set (40305) is actually a retail version, still listed at LEGO.com (20% off) but currently sold out. For any new branded LEGO Stores opening this 2022 and beyond, GWP set 40528 is what to expect. Of course, those new stores should open near you if you want a shot at collecting this item. As you know, being a GWP it comes free with a minimum total LEGO purchase.

Rumored LEGO Creator Vespa Seen in Creator High-Speed Train (40518) Rare Promo Image?

You’ve got to love sometimes how retailers sometimes reveal LEGO’s hand before any official product announcements. Towards the end of last month, last year, we got European retailers listing possible LEGO sets in advance. They might be “expected” sets like an alleged upcoming LEGO Marvel buildable character model. Or they might be all-new products from a licensed IP that LEGO hasn’t done before, like “Horizon Zero Dawn.” In any case, these super-early “reveals” are great even if we must consider them rumors prior to official LEGO updates. Speaking of which, we have another one, updating from earlier rumors from late 2021.

Brickset reports that a possible image for a long-rumored LEGO Creator Vespa set appeared in promo images of another set. Said images came from the Creator High-Speed Train (40518), seen first in Hungarian online retailer Kocka. Note that a Creator Vespa set rumored to become a GWP was numbered 40517, one digit off. The image showed a red brick-built Vespa alongside the High-Speed Train and past Creator sets. The Creator London Bus (40220) is there alongside Creator Yellow Taxi (40468) and Tuk Tuk (40469). It looks like a LEGO Creator public transport set showcase. Said image also doesn’t appear in 40518’s official LEGO.com listing.

But if Creator High-Speed Train (40518) is already listed, what about this red Vespa, potentially GWP set 40517? Did LEGO postpone or cancel it similar to their latest Marvel Mech Armors? We could certainly use some clarifications, especially considering there’s another rumored Vespa set. Regarding the larger, potentially Creator Expert Vespa (10298), we heard no further speculation. At least for the moment, the January 1 LEGO product launch blitz isn’t making collectors miss much.

LEGO Creator Skiing Santa Still Active In-Store GWP in UK, Europe Until Dec. 24

When it came to special offers in the vein of GWPs, the December 2021 LEGO Store Calendar was…sparse. Only one item was listed there, and only available in-store instead of online. That would be a Creator polybag with the figure of a jolly Skiing Santa Claus (30580). It could be earned free for every in-store LEGO purchase over $40, from December 1 to 14. Well, that promo period has come and gone since last week, at least in the US. As Brick Fanatics tells it however, Skiing Santa Claus is still around in Europe. And he’s staying until Christmas Eve.

Indeed, it can be seen as such in the Offers & Sale page of LEGO.com for GB. Creator Skiing Santa Claus (30580) remains active in-store GWP not just in the UK but Europe too. As with the now-ended US edition, the buildable figure polybag is earned with in-store LEGO purchases over 40. That’s in pounds or euros depending on where. It also goes hand-in-hand with the full seasonal set Santa’s Front Yard (40484). This similarly long-running GWP goes for both in-store and online orders over £170/€170. Both it and Skiing Santa are available right until December 24, quite appropriate enough.

Never-Released GWP Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ Living Room Getting High Bids on eBay

In this day and age, when a product never gets an official launch, it may still be available elsewhere. Maybe it’s because the item/s are a limited-run free giveaway to a select few. The LEGO employee Christmas gift-sets spring to mind. Maybe the product launch was cancelled for certain production issues. That won’t stop said items from landing elsewhere, like eBay, where they fetch high online prices. As it turns out, that just happened to a certain seasonal holiday LEGO GWP supposed to run this December. Brick Fanatics has it that Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ Living Room (40489) is worth double-digit dollars in online aftermarket.

Believe it or not, the aforementioned Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ Living Room GWP (40489) is now around $735 on eBay. The online listing of this unreleased set has been flooded with bids. All identities are protected by eBay due to the item being privately listed. If this keeps up, this unfortunate GWP could become one of the priciest LEGO sets yet auctioned in that platform.

The official LEGO statement cancelling Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ Living Room (40489) only stated quality issues as reason. Brick Fanatics theorizes that the “quality issue” might be the Santa minifig. Not only is he carrying a “Naughty List,” his facial expression also seems sour. Santa carried a “Nice List” on Santa’s Sleigh (40499), possibly making this GWP complementary. Whatever the reason, 40489 never went active this December. LEGO reran Santa’s Front Yard (40484) GWP instead.

“Missing” Black Friday GWP Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ Living Room (40489) Cancelled by LEGO

Among the promos we got for LEGO’s Black Friday-Cyber Monday event last November were the expected Holiday seasonal GWP’s. After all, Christmas was just the following month – this current month, now. While the Santa’s Front Yard (40484) gift-with-purchase set was quaint, longtime LEGO collectors might have felt it incomplete. LEGO tends to give away two (not in-store) GWPs for Black Friday, but 40484 was all we got. There was supposed to be a complementary set, called Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ Living Room (40489). It never showed all BF-CM weekend, and isn’t being hyped this December. What happened to this GWP?

The Brick Show gives us the answer. Apparently LEGO decided not to make Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ Living Room (40489) available as GWP at all. For all intents and purposes this set may well be cancelled. According to their official statement, this seasonal GWP set failed to meet quality standards. That’s too bad. Looking at the build, you could join Santa’s Front Yard (40484) to its left (“outside” the window). It would make for some improvised modular dynamics. Given LEGO’s announcement, either we’ll never see this set released, or it might be revamped for the next Holiday season. We’re sorry you can’t join us this year, Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

(Sparse) December 2021 LEGO Store Calendar Out Now

It may come across as somewhat ironic, but during December LEGO Store Calendars are remarkably bare-bones. Sure, new sets release on the first of the month for Holiday shoppers to hunt down. But in terms of promotions and events the store calendars aren’t filled out. We have this on good authority from The Brick Fan, which also revealed the December 2021 LEGO Store Calendar. We’re also pretty sorry for running slow on that compared to previous months. Anyway, here’s the December calendar so you can see for yourself. It does only have one unique promo.

0001

Gift with Purchase
  • Santa Claus (30580)LEGO purchases over $40, in-store only, Dec 1-14 or while supplies last

0002

And that’s all she wrote. True, there is a LEGO Holiday Truck Tour event, but that’s really location-dependent. You can check here if you want to confirm. There are some LEGO sets launching right this December 1, like the Disney “Encanto” movie tie-ins. Enjoy getting that buildable Santa Claus set (pictured above) as a reward for doing your Holiday LEGO shopping early.

LEGO Retro Tin (5007016) GWP Still Active Until Nov 25

Last Saturday and Sunday the LEGO VIP Weekend gave way some sweet promotional items (GWP or VIP point redemption). One item, Santa’s Front Yard (40484), will return for Black Friday through Cyber Monday. The rest did not…or at least so we thought. One item from that VIP Weekend wasn’t even a LEGO-brick set at all. It was a nifty tin plate, artificially aged, and sporting an old LEGO logo. The LEGO Retro Tin (5007016) required an above-average minimum purchase threshold to be acquired as GWP. Apparently enough people liked it, or there are still leftovers, that LEGO extended its promo.

As Brick Fanatics tells us, redemption of the LEGO Retro Tin (5007016) went beyond the VIP Weekend window. As of this writing VIP collectors can still claim it for a minimum LEGO purchase of over $250. The extended promo will last until this Thursday, November 25. Yes, it’ll end before Black Friday. But the operative word might be “probably,” especially if not enough people are getting the item to clear supplies. Still, there are enough big-priced LEGO sets to get right now to reach $250. Let’s find out if LEGO decides to extend this GWP redemption anew later this week.

LEGO Black Friday Deals Revealed for VIP Weekend

We all know this is coming. With us now in the middle of November, Black Friday draws ever nearer. With that highly-anticipated event come the expected special deals and new releases courtesy of LEGO. In fact, some of those surprises are already known. LEGO’s got big sets like the Star Wars UCS AT-AT (75313) accompanied by multiple GWPs. But the rest remain unknown; or at least they were. LEGO.com Australia revealed even more deals for Black Friday this past weekend according to Brickset. We make note of them even as the other LEGO.com portals officially list the same by now.

Officially, the Black Friday/Cyber Monday period runs November 26-29. But if you’re a LEGO VIP member then the fun starts earlier for you; one weekend earlier in fact. VIPs can get these special deals from November 20 to 21. They will rerun for everybody on the weekend after that. Here’s what LEGO’s got lined up:

  • Doubled VIP Points (naturally)

Gryffindor Dorms (40452) GWP Still On Until November 19

It feels like only yesterday at times, when LEGO Harry Potter collectors thought they missed out on a GWP. That October 2021 LEGO Store calendar offered two LEGO Harry Potter items as GWPs. The key set of the two was Hogwarts – Gryffindor Dorms (40452). It was a modular set that also doubled as a display space for Wizarding World tiles. These were included in all 20th Anniversary LEGO HP sets. But as it stood, the GWP period for Gryffindor Dorms (40452) ran from October 25 to November 7. That was despite being “removed” from the second October store calendar. At least, that was the GWP period before it came back.

40452 1

Brick Fanatics tells us that LEGO’s online store has brought back LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts – Gryffindor Dorms (40452). That’s great news for those who missed it as a GWP. It would be like the promo period never stopped. Collectors now have until November 19 to claim this nice little set featuring Harry and Ron in their rooms. The deal remains the same too. LEGO Harry Potter purchases over $100 (also £ and €) will net you the Gryffindor Dorms (40452). As far as GWP goes, this is one of the best among the recent offerings.
