The latest Review Stage on LEGO Ideas is filling in rather nicely. The variety of product ideas that got 10,000 supporters in this period already check most general LEGO set types. Structural builds, from modern to old-western to medieval; and vehicles real or fantastic. We even have a buildable animal, a brick-built working clock replica, and…a toilet. All of these are free-standing builds. But there’s one niche LEGO theme that now has representation in the First 2022 Stage: LEGO Art. We can thank Ideas member john_carter for giving us this nifty and artistic set in the form of the LEGO product idea, Tales of the Space Age.
Here we have “Tales of the Space Age,” no less than three LEGO Art pieces created by john_carter. Each portrait-oriented artwork depicts three space-age events in raised relief via LEGO pieces. A rocket launches towards the stars. A lander probe traverses the surface of Mars. Finally, radar telescopes monitor the movement of comets and meteors. They can be displayed individually or side by side. Even their means of display can be varied. Let them stand like plaques on surfaces, or hang on the wall using hook slots made from Technic lift arms. At 10.4cm x 14.7 cm, the works are big enough for prominent visibility.
It’s good that a LEGO Art-esque build has joined the entries for Ideas review this early part of 2022. Whether it’s good and unique enough to convince the expert reviewers is another matter. But we’ve been surprised at chosen official LEGO Ideas sets before. Maybe “Tales of the Space Age” will surprise us later on.
Membership in the LEGO VIP program can open a new world of special benefits and perks. Many of these bonuses can be redeemed with a good amount of points accumulated from LEGO purchases as a VIP. But every now and then, LEGO offers great goodies on their VIP page that don’t even require VIP points. Quite the number of them went live recently, ready for download on the LEGO.com VIP Rewards Center. The thing is, to enjoy them VIP members would have purchased three particular LEGO Art sets. If they have them though, they’re all set for alternative building as The Brick Fan tells it.
Some new zero-VIP point rewards are available on LEGO VIP Rewards Center. They come in the form of alternate building instructions for three sets of the LEGO Art line. In truth, these building instructions have been online for much earlier. The LEGO.com Art theme’s “About” page made mention of the instructions. Interested builders then needed to visit the original Art set’s product listing. The new arrangement put all alternate building instructions in the central hub of the VIP Rewards Center. VIP members can redeem them there without costing VIP points.
These alternative instructions illustrate new designs to be made on the LEGO Art sets in question. Amazingly, one only needs the existing pieces from one set to create the new designs. But what would you expect with a name like LEGO Art? Here are the LEGO Art sets in question, with their respective alternative designs:
The end of any given year marks the traditional date of retirement for LEGO sets. As you know, the old products must make way for new releases after all. Some LEGO product retirements vary from market to market too, so there’s that to consider. Last mid-September Shop@Home UK began listing up their retiring products. The Brick Fan now has the heads-up on LEGO sets also marked for retirement on Shop@Home US. There are some similarities to the earlier UK list, but there are others also. We’re doing a mini-list of the 2021 retiring sets for Shop@Home US. If they got featured here on The Brick Show, we’ll add the articles.
We have a set as old as 2017 here in the Creator Expert London Bus. It was fortunate to have lasted so long, but the time to say goodbye is coming soon. If you want them but still haven’t got them, then better make your purchase soon.
LEGO’s more than just building impressive structures and vehicles/machinery with wonderful moving parts. They lend themselves pretty well to artistic expression too. Look nowhere else for a finer example than the LEGO Art theme. A multitude of multi-colored tiles to stick on a wall-mounted base-frame can result in surprising masterpieces. True, the LEGO Art sets already released have default images to replicate, from Hogwarts logos to celebrities to world maps. But a solo LEGO builder-artist can build these sets alone. Does Art set made for building with friends interest you? Well, LEGO has that covered now.
As covered by Brickset.com, a new LEGO Art set appeared on Amazon UK‘s listings. Say hello to LEGO Art Project: Create Together (21226). At 4,138 pieces this set offers builder-artists the opportunity to create LEGO-tile mosaic art with 36 available patterns. These patterns can be replicated in one of nine baseplates that can combine into larger frames.
Share the baseplates with friends so you can each create artworks. Next, make your own art combinations with baseplates arranged 2×2, 3×2, 4×2 or 3×3. This maximum 3×3 frame can then house a 37th large round-tile mosaic pattern of the classic LEGO spaceman.
For its versatility, the LEGO Art Project: Create Together (21226) costs about the same as most LEGO Art releases. Amazon UK lists it as £114.99, which might be converted to $117-119 judging from its sister sets. Interestingly, the release date (October 1) indicates that set 21226 is already available in amazon.uk. However the platform says “temporarily out of stock.” Brickset.com believes that LEGO itself might release this November 1 instead.
Earlier this week, LEGO has officially unveiled its next big, brick-built display set that lets you reminisce and map out your globetrotting adventures. The LEGO Art World Map (31203) is the next 18+ set that intends to help you explore the world in LEGO pieces, and in the safety and comfort of your home.
By far the largest LEGO Art set ever designed, the LEGO Art World Map clocks in at 11,695 pieces making it the only LEGO set to date with the most number of pieces required to build. It is made up of 40 interlocking baseplates allowing it to be displayed at 25.5 inches high and 40.5 inches wide. It is essentially a brick representation of the classic world map, and since it is customizable, you can add your own LEGO elements to make it more fun and interactive. I can easily see how this can be a great display set and a teaching tool at the same time.
The LEGO Art World Map (31203) is slated to be available starting June 1, 2021, and will retail for $250. You may click on the following affiliate link to know more about this new LEGO Art entry.

If you’re keeping a watchful eye on some of the things that are happening in the LEGO community scene, then you might have noticed that last month was a roller coaster ride of rumors and teases that gave us a glimpse of what we can expect from LEGO next year. Given with such an enormous amount of info from the leaky faucet, let’s take time to sum up everything that we have learned so far about the upcoming LEGO sets for the first half (H1) of 2021.

LEGO Super Mario
And of course, LEGO obviously has more plans for its latest collaboration with Nintendo. In 2021, we can expect another series of Character Pack similar to its LEGO Super Mario Character Pack Series 1 (71361)
71380 Starter Course Set 2 (366 pieces, €59.99)

71386 Character Pack 2 (€3.99 per blind bag)
The names of these upcoming LEGO sets under the Super Mario theme are understandably kept under wraps, but from the looks of it, we can expect a new Starter Course set, 3 Expansion Sets, 2 additional Super Mario costumes, or Power-Ups, and another series of Character Packs. The Starter Course Set 2 is quite interesting and we’ll have to see how this will turn out.
LEGO Harry Potter
Rumor has it that the LEGO Harry Potter theme will receive its Disney-like series of Storybook Adventures, but in this case, based on the various classrooms of the iconic Hogwarts Castle. Each LEGO Harry Potter Storybook playset is expected to retail for €29.99, with a release date of January 2021.
Yeah, I know it may sound redundant already but hey, the Millennium Falcon still holds a special place in LEGO Star Wars fandom. As proof of that, we can expect another LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon Microfighter similar to what we have in set 75193 to be part of a repertoire of upcoming LEGO sets.
This is an exhaustive list though since we can still expect plenty of new information to come in as we approach the last quarter of this year. However, since LEGO is quite mum about these things, for now, I highly suggest that we consider all of these things for the rumors that they really are for the time being. Unless we hear LEGO’s official press release and product reveal regarding its upcoming LEGO sets, then let’s take this piece of news with a healthy amount of salt.
Whether you’re a newbie in the LEGO hobby or a veteran AFOL, LEGO’s latest adult-focused theme has something to offer that will inspire the creative person in you. After officially unveiling its LEGO Art theme earlier this month, LEGO has now released an accompanying designer video that gives us an inside look at the creative inspiration behind one of its offerings. Check out the LEGO ART Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) designer video below.
LEGO Designer Chris Stamp shares with us the inspiration and design process that goes with LEGO ART, particularly to that of MCU’s Iron Man. The LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) allows you to recreate three particular versions of Iron Man as we remember him on the big screen, each of which somehow presents a particular milestone in the evolution of Tony Stark’s superhero persona. Set on a 48×48 frame, LEGO fans can choose to recreate the Mark 3 that appeared in the very first Iron Man movie. You can also opt to recreate a pixelated image of the Hulkbuster if you wish to memorialize Iron Man’s historic bout with the Hulk and their subsequent team-up as the world’s mightiest heroes in the form of the Avengers. And finally, as a fitting tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of the “genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist” we all cried for in Endgame, the LEGO Design team saw it fit to have the Mark 85 as the final representative for the LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man mosaic.
You can choose to display all of the three different versions of MCU’s Iron Man as seen above. Bear in mind that you need to have three sets of the LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) in order to do this.
As you may have known already, what is also cool about the LEGO Art theme is that you can combine several copies of the same set to recreate a larger, more impressive LEGO mosaic. You can combine three of these LEGO Art Marve Studios Iron Man and you can have an almost 4 feet long LEGO mosaic art that you can proudly display at home. The combined, three 15.5 inches panels recreate the ultimate Iron Man in an awesome, dynamic pose. You may also opt to display all three separate designs like a sort of a timeline that covers the significant events in MCU’s Iron Man.
Or you may opt to have a larger 4-foot panel using three same sets for that ultimate LEGO Iron Man tribute.
What builders may also find interesting about the LEGO Art theme are the new parts that come with them. There’s the new 16×16 brick that allows you to divide the LEGO Art set into 9 separate panels. Such design allows the builder to focus on one section of the set, without being overwhelmed by the rest of the details. There’s also a new and wider black brick separator (which looks cool by the way), designed specifically to remove 4 or 6 tile pieces at a time. Finally, there’s a new hanger piece which is basically a 3×5 panel with a pinhole that allows the completed set to be hung and displayed on a wall.
The new-for-August 202o pieces that were introduced with the LEGO Art series.
With the latest LEGO Art series, LEGO hopes that adult fans of the brick and those that are just starting in the hobby will be able to appreciate what this series has to offer – a sort of a creative break, especially during these trying times.
LEGO has finally revealed its latest line of sets catered to the AFOL community. Last March, I made mention of a rumored series of LEGO wall art sets that are said to be launched in the latter of summer. And this time around, LEGO has unveiled the LEGO Art sets that provide a new ‘canvas’ of creative building expression for older LEGO fans.
Slated to be launched on September 1st, the LEGO Art brings together some of the most iconic personalities and characters of the 20th century, allowing LEGO fans to render them in a LEGO mosaic format.
What is also interesting about these sets are the parts that are included with them. The new LEGO Art series comes with a new and wider black brick separator (which looks cool by the way), designed specifically to remove 4 or 6 tile pieces at a time. Though the media resource that LEGO has released does not give us a closer look at its new baseplate-like piece, I feel that the new canvas for the LEGO Art series is more like a large, singular 16×16 brick with Technic holes on its sides. These features allow the 9 pieces of these large bricks to be connected to each other to create an impressive 40cm square canvas. There’s also a generous amount of round tiles that come in new colors that serve as your brick paint of sorts in coloring your LEGO wall art.
And as a bonus, LEGO is throwing in some pretty neat interview soundtracks or anecdotes coming from the creators behind Iron Man and Star Wars and those individuals who are most familiar with the stories of Andy Warhol and the Beatles.
There are four sets in the LEGO Art theme, all of which will be available sometime between August and September, retailing for $199.99 per set. It should also be noted that although each LEGO Art set offers several options on how you can create your brick canvas, they cannot be built simultaneously. That means if you wish to have all of the Beatles members displayed side by side, then you must have 4 copies of set 31198. Also, it seems that in the case of the LEGO Art Iron Man and Star Wars mosaics, you can combine 3 of these sets to create larger, composite wall art.
Here’s what LEGO has to say about its latest line of products. Read on for LEGO’s official press release for the LEGO Art mosaic sets, followed by their official images. These are now listed over at LEGO Shop@Home, and you may click on the following affiliate links below if you wish to have a closer look.
Transform your passion into art: the LEGO Group puts pop-art back in the picture for adult builders.
New LEGO® ART sets featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters and famous celebrities help adults get into the right ‘frame’ of mind while creating their very own masterpiece.
Billund, July 1st, 2020: Today, the LEGO Group is launching a new canvas for creative expression alongside a series of much-loved partners. Designed for adults who pride themselves on their love of pop culture, four new LEGO® ART sets give creative adults a different way to transform their passion into art.
Those who love Warhol or Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, or iconic characters from the Marvel Universe and Star Wars™ galaxy can pay homage to their idols by creating their very own LEGO artwork portrait to proudly display in their homes, offices or wherever they enjoy their music, film or art.
The LEGO® ART sets offer adults a new creative experience to help them relax and recharge as they transform a blank canvas (or in this case, small interlinking base plates) using LEGO tiles. Each set can be reimagined in several different ways to express the personality of each different builder and to make it easy and simple for pop culture lovers to refresh the LEGO ART piece on display in their house. All four new sets come with a signature tile unique to the set that is worthy of any true work of art, and a new hanging element to make them easy to hang up and switch around.
With new research from the LEGO Group finding that 73% of adults often research new ways to help them relax*, each LEGO ART set comes with a bespoke soundtrack that makes the perfect building companion. Featuring fascinating anecdotes from the creators of Iron Man and *Star Wars*, or those closest to the stories of Andy Warhol and the Beatles, the soundtracks dive deep into the inspiration behind each design to help adults fully immerse themselves in the building experience and unwind while they explore their love of music, art or film in a new way.
The LEGO® Marvel Studios Iron Man set will be available exclusively from LEGO Retail Stores and LEGO.com while the other three sets will be available from retailers from 1st August 2020, or from 1st September in the US. Products may be available to pre-order from 1st July from selected retailers in certain countries.
