More LEGO Jurassic World Sets Slated for 2019

Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the latest installment of their CGI-fest adventure film franchise, premiered back in June, while the official tie-in building-brick sets from LEGO came out on the preceding month. It seems to have simply ended at that, but just because they stopped releasing doesn’t mean there won’t be more in future. Because the film giant itself has already confirmed that we can expect more LEGO Jurassic World sets come next year.

According to License Global, Universal Pictures announced its future plans for the Jurassic World franchise, going well until next year. This includes new toy products in 2019, to be produced by both Mattel and The LEGO Group, an unusual period as Fallen Kingdom has long arrived and its sequel still years off.

In 2019, “Jurassic World: The Exhibition,” which debuted in Paris last year, will stop in Madrid in the fall. “Jurassic World in Concert,” a visual and orchestral experience, will continue its global tour. Universal Games and Digital Platforms will continue to celebrate the franchises’ most recent films with “Jurassic World Alive,” an augment reality location-based mobile game as well as “Jurassic World Evolution,” a dinosaur theme-park management centers console/PC games.

Additional products from master toy partner Mattel and construction partner LEGO will debut at retailers in the U.K. through 2019.

But while this year is still around, Universal and LEGO will collaborate on a LEGO Jurassic World animated special that would air sometime in late 2018. Running 22 minutes long, this animation will be used to help promote the film’s home media release last September.

Aside from the promise of more LEGO Jurassic World sets in 2019, we know there is a 4-minifigure limited edition set Bricktober on Toys R Us Stores (with LEGO Stores in the US). That and the animated special should tie over LEGO and Jurassic World fans until the next year comes.

By the way, the one-off LEGO Jurassic World animation might either be released on home media or aired on Cartoon Network, long the home of various LEGO animated series. The sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on the other hand will be far in 2021.

LEGO Star Wars Kessel Mine Worker (40299) Minifigure Now Available at Barnes & Noble

If a limited edition LEGO minifigure is of the Star Wars line, then there’s a chance that it will be given some extra attention. We’ve already seen this trend over the past year with numerous limited edition LEGO Star Wars minifigures such as the 2017’s R3-M2 (40268) and DJ (40298), and the most recent being Mud-trooper Han Solo (40300) himself. The latter is now available over at Shop@Home for every minimum $35 LEGO purchase, but he’s not the only one and that’s not the only place where it’s going on. And now it looks like it will soon be followed a similar promo offered only at Barnes & Noble: the LEGO Star Wars Kessel Mine Worker (40299).

According to a report by fellow news source,  The Brick Fan, this next exclusive LEGO Star Wars collectible minifigure is currently available as a gift-with-purchase over at Barnes & Noble for a certain minimum amount. To be precise, the Kessel Mine Worker (40299) can be yours to keep for any single receipt, LEGO Star Wars purchase worth $29.95 and above at B & N.

This Barnes & Noble promotion is said to run until October 18. But apparently if you can’t be bothered to by any other LEGO Star Wars sets from them to hit the minimum, then you can apparently buy the Kessel Mine Worker (40299) polybag itself for only $1.27 apiece. What are you waiting for?

Our Next LEGO Ideas Sets Are The Treehouse and Flintstones!

We now have the result of this year’s first LEGO Ideas Review Stage, and it looks like we’re not just getting one, but two upcoming LEGO Ideas sets. The reveal for these next LEGO Ideas sets came in via LEGO Fan Tube’s YouTube channel, as announced yesterday, and as revealed by Ali and Hasan, these are the Treehouse by KevinTreeHouse and the fun, prehistoric family of The Flintstones by AndrewClark2.  Watch the full reveal below.

The LEGO Ideas Treehouse eventually became the LEGO Design Team’s pick, together with The Flintstones and will be both released sometime next year. I have to admit that I was looking forward to have Stitch as the next official LEGO Ideas set but it seems that the likelihood of having a LEGO Ideas Stitch is close to none because of the new LEGO Ideas guidelines concerning existing themes (e.g. Disney) that are now enforced on all future submissions. In any case, the LEGO Ideas Treehouse and LEGO Ideas The Flintstones will still appeal to a large number of LEGO fans, especially those who grew up with the iconic Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

LEGO Aquaman Promotes Warner Bros. and DCEU’s Aquaman Movie In This Latest LEGOlized Poster

Warner Bros. Pictures is fit to do what it can to make it a DC December with the premiere of its next installment in the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. LEGO too has done its part in promoting the hesitant heir to the throne of Atlantis with its early movie tie-in set LEGO DC Super Heroes Aquaman: Black Manta Strike (76095). And with the already available, LEGO has had time to think up a new promo gimmick for Warner-DC’s Aquaman ahead of its release. Not surprisingly, that comes in the form of a LEGO Aquaman minifigurization of the movie’s teaser poster.

First posed on LEGO’s Twitter page, the LEGO Aquaman poster is some expected for the DCEU-themed sets that LEGO has already released so far. This particular LEGO Aquaman minifig is standing (because they can’t “kneel” like Momoa in the original), but this LEGOlized version of the ruler of Atlantis is certainly has plenty of swag, surrounded by a host of LEGO sharks.

LEGO hasn’t made any peep on whether the LDCSH set Black Manta Strikes (76095) will be followed by more Aquaman-centric sets (but most probably it will be the only  tie-in set for this movie, similar to the DCEU inspired Wonder Woman Warrior Battle 76075 set). It has been customary for LEGO to release a set for any of the ‘minor’ films of either the DCEU or MCU, with handful of sets reserved for the ‘major’ films such as the Justice League or Avengers: Infinity War.

The Aquaman film arrives in cinemas on December 21. Though DCEU films may seem to have its own brand of unpopular humor, director James Wan promises a great fun and action-packed superhero adventure that fully embraces both the high and lows of his character . We’ll just have to wait until then.

Life-Sized LEGO Bugatti Chiron Showing in Paris Motor Show this October

In months past LEGO set out to prove their promise that one can “build for real” with LEGO pieces. They proved that concept beyond the shadow of a doubt by trumping their LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) set  by recreating an actual, life-sized car using only LEGO Technic components and lots of Power Function motors forming an engine. Ever since the reveal and test drive (slower than the real Chiron, but who cares?), the life-sized LEGO Bugatti Chiron built on 1:1 scale has been going around on a grand European tour. It already had two stopovers in Germany – Dusseldorf and Munich – and for its third stop, it’s going to Paris, France next.

And it’s not just any display; the life-sized LEGO Bugatti Chiron will dropping in on nothing less than the Paris Motor Show, where it will have a place of honor next to all those real cars that clock speeds more in line with the actual Chiron’s 248 mph. It’s bound to be the star anyway.

Probably helping is the fact that several automakers are not showing up in Paris: Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen and more. This is more because of a declining interest trend in automobile show participation and not a one-off phenomenon for this.

So LEGO will be sharing the exhibition with the likes of Audi, Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes, Porsche, Suzuki, Toyota and many others, up until October 14. That’s a great time for motor-heads and LEGO fans to see the Technic Bugatti up close, a testament to building for real by LEGO.

3 in 1 LEGO City Super Pack Found in UK Retailer Tesco

Every now and then, LEGO would go an extra mile (or set) for retailers by releasing “Super Pack” collections that bundle multiple sets into one. These sets usually belong to a common theme or line, with a little extra, and sold at a reasonable collective price. LEGO is no exception. One such deal is now available, particularly with the LEGO City Super Pack spotted in toy shelves of UK’s grocery-general merchandise retail chain Tesco. The LEGO City Super Pack carries with it the Monster Truck (60180) and Speed Record Car (60178). The third bundled set however is a delightful surprise.

Rounding out this LEGO City Super Pack 3-in-1 is the LEGO Classic Bricks on a Roll (10715), originally available via Wal-Mart as part of their celebration for LEGO’s 60th Anniversary. The bricks from 10715 might be good for building backgrounds for the accompanying LEGO City sets, which are vehicles, especially if they’re the only ones you’ve bought thus far.

Bundled together, the three sets of this LEGO City Super Pack at Tesco is priced at £40, though a quick calculation of the individual regular prices for each, total up to £42.97, meaning a savings of around 3 pounds.

If you’d rather look for the components of this LEGO City Super Pack as individual sets, then both LEGO City Monster Truck (60180) and Speed Record Car (60178) are still available online at Shop@Home, both in the UK and US.

Toys R Us Looking at Possible US Revival

It had been a sad passing when toy retail giant Toys R Us closed its doors in the very nation of its birth. That was sad for LEGO too, as TRU was one of its major retail partners with plenty of promotional events activities tied to them. And while the brand continues on in Canada and continental Europe, it just doesn’t feel quite the same.

But what if we told you that it may not last; that Toys R Us might ape the Ironborn adage from Game of Thrones to, in paraphrase, never die but rise again? It seems a revival is in the cards.

When last we heard of TRU US, it was on the block for a bankruptcy auction of its brands and assets by the hedge funds acting as its controlling lenders. Said lenders have abruptly pulled the plug on the auction, opting to revitalize the brand.

The controlling lenders now want the company, currently operating as Geoffrey LLC, to lend its brand instead to “a newly established, independent US business” using both the Toys R Us and Babies R Us branding. Rather than reopen the closed retail operations, it will be a new start for all.

Granted, the fact that the company is still saddled with outstanding debts and had let go of so many employees will make reviving TRU stateside a hard sell. But for the many LEGO fans that have relied on the retailer for their LEGO shopping, this could be very welcome news. One can only hope for the best with the attempt.

LEGO and IBM Teams Up for AI-Powered Interactive Advertising

If you thought the recent collaboration between LEGO and China’s Tencent Games to launch a new mobile title was pretty much already out there, then perhaps you haven’t seen everything yet. It’s amazing just how much brand power LEGO can wield when your next collaboration involves using AI for advertising. To this end, LEGO and IBM teams up to boost the former’s advertising to a whole new, interactive level utilizing IBM’s Watson Ads Omni. To get technical, these ads use “hyper-personalization at scale along with actionable insights”.

What that means is the new LEGO ads can actually sell particular sets to fans currently browsing on their sites, particularly Shop@Home. They can “talk” to the AI, perhaps via typed-in text. The AI will ask them questions on what LEGO sets they’d like, then make a list of recommendations.

IBM’s press release on the work they’ve done with LEGO claims that the AI-powered ads are “empowering the brand to have meaningful one-to-one conversations at scale with consumers wherever they may be in their path to purchase”. At the least, they can smartly recommend from 35 possible best-selling sets available. Its like having a virtual LEGO Brick Specialist assisting you.

“We’re always looking for innovative ways to cut through the clutter and provide meaningful brand interactions for shoppers,” remarks LEGO Systems Senior Director (brand relations) Michael McNally. This LEGO and IBM team up is not just expected to increase LEGO’s profit margin, but most importantly, will provide a better, “personalized” experience for online shoppers once the holiday season shopping spree kicks in.

When these smart AI-powered advertisements will be online, however, wasn’t quite answered yet. We just have to wait and see, and keep tabs with LEGO Shop@Home.
