Get Your Game Face On With the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! Fan Vote Contest

If you recall from late December of last year, LEGO Ideas launched a contest similar to what it did with the Music To Our Ears fan vote contest. And this time around, the contest’s theme centers on our love for sports – whether be it your favorite athlete, team, or for the love of the sports itself. The LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! fan vote contest is now in its crowd vote phase, with 10 outstanding builds that fans can support and vote for.

The mechanics of the contest is pretty straightforward: the contest entry with the most number of fan votes from February 15 to 25 will be declared as the Grand Winner and thus, entitled to receive the following goodies:

And from this pool of 10 finalists, the LEGO Ideas Review Team will select one product idea that has the potential to become the next official LEGO Ideas set. Similar to the mechanics of its previous Music To Our Ears contest, the Review Team’s choice of a product idea is independent of that from the product idea that received the most number of fan votes. If an entry was eventually chosen to be the next official LEGO Ideas set, then the fan designer will receive:

  • 1% of the total net sales of the product
  • 10 complimentary copies of the entry’s official LEGO Ideas set
  • Credit and bio in set materials as the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the finalists for the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! fan vote contest. You may click on the following links below to vote for your favorite sports-themed build. Remember that you can only cast your vote once so be sure to choose your entry carefully. The fan vote phase will also end on February 25 next week.

LEGO Ideas Update: Check Out the Current 10K Qualifiers for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage

While the LEGO Ideas Team has their hands busy working on the seemingly gargantuan task of evaluating 25 project candidates for the Third 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, it looks like their work keeps on getting more challenging. We’re still barely halfway through the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, but we are already seeing twenty-seven (27) 10K qualifiers (and still counting) that managed to gather the needed support to make it move on to the next phase of the selection cycle.

Such an increase in the LEGO fan base has led to numerous approved projects that are now being developed in the LEGO Ideas pipelines and are still waiting to be officially revealed. And on top of this, the LEGO Ideas Team is still hard at work on choosing the next official LEGO fan-made set out of the 25 projects from its latest batch of qualifiers. So, if you’re not overwhelmed yet, let’s have a quick look at the most recent product ideas that managed to get achieve support from 10,000 LEGO fans within the LEGO Ideas platform. Do take note that we still have until April to conclude the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, so expect this list to be longer in the months to follow. Here are they are in no particular order. For the LEGO Ideas sets that are now officially available in the market, be sure to visit LEGO Shop@Home.

LEGO Ideas Second 2020 Review Stage Results Are Finally In

The LEGO Ideas Review Board has finally released the results for its LEGO Ideas Second 2020 Review Results, including a final decision on a project that took a considerable amount of time to be evaluated. These sets were chosen as the next official LEGO Ideas sets among a record-breaking 35 product ideas submitted between May to September of 2020. These proposals managed to get the support of more than 10,000 LEGO fans who wished to see them translated into an actual LEGO product.

The announcement came earlier today through LEGO Engagement Manager Hasan Jansen and LEGO Associate Marketing Manager Piangward Kate Jarupakorn. You can watch their full announcement right here.

First off, among 35 fan submissions evaluated during the LEGO Ideas Second 2020 Review Stage, the honor of being the next official LEGO set has been awarded to Truman Cheng’s (aka legotruman) brick rendition of a timeless masterpiece – Vincent van Gogh: The Starry Night.

starry night

It will be interesting to see how this classic painting will be translated into LEGO bricks especially considering that LEGO has now introduced its LEGO Art series. However, considering that the building techniques employed by Truman in his approved fan submission do not utilize the same kind of pixelated style of the LEGO Arts series, then it will be interesting to see how the LEGO Ideas design team will eventually finalize it as a set. I hope that they will stay true to the concept and building techniques seen in the original submission.

Just a side note – though I’m happy that The Starry Night eventually received a thumb’s up from the review board, I can’t help but wonder why none of the other 34 entries were selected. Like what other LEGO fans have noted, there are other 10K qualifiers in this roster that is quite popular among fans for references to pop culture icons. It will be nice to see for example an official LEGO set for Nintendo’s Animal Crossing considering its playability and appeal to adult and younger LEGO fans alike, or perhaps a set dedicated to the Greendale Community College based on 2009’s hit series Community. I’m sure that there are other worthy candidates from this pool of 35 submissions, and it’s a bit disappointing to see that only 1 was ultimately selected. Perhaps the LEGO Ideas Review Board needs to cut some corners considering the sheer number of approved projects still in development? I really don’t know, so it will be nice if the review team will provide more details on their decision.

But if there is any consolation that the LEGO Ideas Second 2020 Review Stage has to offer to LEGO fans, is the fact that the Blue Blur is back and just in time for his 30th birthday. We first saw his official minifig in the now-discontinued LEGO Dimensions Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack (71244) from 2016. And just in case you missed out on him, having an official LEGO Ideas Sonic Mania: Green Hill Zone set along with other iconic characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is certainly most welcomed. I missed out on the first LEGO Sonic minifigure, and I will certainly not miss my next opportunity to get this one.

sonic mania

The conclusion of the LEGO Ideas Second 2020 Review Stage now brings a total of 7 approved projects currently in development:

And while waiting for these approved projects to roll out in LEGO stores shortly, the LEGO Ideas review team already has its hands full for the Third 2020 review cycle with its total of 25 qualifying entries.

LEGO Ideas Kicks Off 2021 With These 25 Candidates for the Third 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage

As we begin 2021 with a lot of high-hopes, these next 25 product ideas sure have something to look forward to as they qualify for the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

The LEGO Ideas blog site has now released the qualifying entries for its next review cycle – original product ideas that earned the approval of more than 10,000 LEGO fans around the world. Continuing the trend of more than 20 submissions that managed to hit that 10K fan support milestone, these are fan-made entries that were submitted via the LEGO Ideas platform from September 2020 to January 4, 2021. On a side note, there are still 35 product submissions that are being evaluated by the LEGO design team, with one from the First 2020 Review cycle still being scrutinized.

Here’s a round-up of these Third 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage qualifiers, with links to their respective product idea pages. Though there are some that I fell may not make it to the cut considering that similar LEGO sets were already released such as the LEGO Creator Expert Colosseum (10276) and LEGO Creator Expert Police Station (10278), there are still some product ideas from this roster that are promising such as the Classic Castle, Viking Village, and James Cameron’s Avatar to name a few.

The Second 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage Features a Record-Breaking 35 Product Ideas

I have to admit that I haven’t covered much of what’s going on over at LEGO Ideas during these past weeks – I only managed to keep track of the first eight qualifiers for the current review stage early in June. But to my surprise this morning, I was greeted by my inbox with this fascinating update from the LEGO Ideas Team. In a record-breaking feat, the LEGO Ideas platform has listed 35 qualifiers for its Second 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. What is even more fascinating is that it even bested its previous record of 26 qualified submissions during the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review which concluded last May.

These current 35 product idea qualifiers managed to garner the needed support from 10,000 LEGO fans from the period of early May until September 7. And for someone who has been following the LEGO Ideas scene during the past years, all I can say is that this is insanely cool! This only shows that no pandemic can ever stop the creativity of our brick-loving, LEGO community.

I can just also imagine the sheer amount of work awaiting the LEGO Ideas Review Team considering that as Hasan Jensen, LEGO Ideas Engagement Manager puts it, they are still hard at work in reviewing the qualifiers from the previous review stage. And with the next cycle of product submissions now officially commencing today and until January 4, 2021, the Review Team must clearly work, double or even triple time.

In case you missed it, here are the 35 qualifiers for the Second 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. Feel free to list your favorites at the comments below, and congratulations once again to all the qualifiers!

The Results Are In: LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review Results Announced

After announcing their awesome giveaway the day before, the LEGO Ideas Team led by Hasan Jensen and Samuel Johnson has just announced the victors of the LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review Results. Out of 12 qualifiers, it turns out that we can now expect three additional LEGO Ideas sets added to the theme’s roster. Check out the video of their highly anticipated announcement.

A huge congratulations to the following LEGO product ideas for making it to this elite circle:

Home Alone. McCallister’s House by  Alex Storozhuk (aka adwind)

LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review Results

Home Alone – is a 1990 Christmas movie… Come on, you guys all know what Home Alone is! Let’s talk about what this movie has become to thousands of us around the globe. To our family Home Alone is a Christmas tradition, symbol, and very warm memories of childhood! So in this project, I and my wife Nadya tried to put as much love and details as we could!

This set consists of 3000 pieces. McCallister’s house has 2 floors full of furniture and stuff from the movie and of course, it features a mansard. There is a small tree house outside with a rope that links it with the main structure to help Kevin escape.

The main roof and kitchen roof are removable and also the house itself is openable to let you recreate scenes and make your own stories!

Here you may see the main hall, kitchen and dining area, brick-built stairs, mom and dad bedroom, Buzz room, 2 bathrooms, storeroom.

There are 3 minifigures: Kevin, Harry, and Marv.

LEGO Typewriter by Steve Guinness (aka Steve Guinness)

LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review Results

I have designed and built this replica typewriter, that has a working hand-cranked mechanism. I originally developed the idea whilst I was on the Legomasters TV show in the UK. Since then I have continued to refine the design, making a hand-cranked mechanism instead of a power functions motor that I had originally fitted. I have also had the keys printed up with letters. I believe this would make a fun and unique lego ideas project. I think it showcases the versatility of the Lego brick and would look amazing on any Lego fans desk, at home or even in the office at work!

I hope to add more updates, showing my ideas for the packaging, and giving details on how I developed the working mechanism.

I’m dedicating the idea to my wife Rachael, who is my best friend and an amazing support to me, she always believes in me and is an amazing encouragement to me in everything I do. I would love to be able to walk into a Lego shop with Rachael and my children Daisy and Obby, and see my design on the shelves 🙂

Seinfeld 30th Anniversary by Brent Waller (aka BrentWaller)

LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review Results

This LEGO Ideas project celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the beloved classic 90s comedy sitcom with an accurate recreation of Jerry’s Upper West Side Manhattan apartment using approximately 900 LEGO Pieces.

It also includes 5 minifigures including Comedian and shows namesake, Jerry Seinfeld, neurotic best friend George Costanza, friend Elaine Benes, eccentric but kind-hearted neighbor Cosmo Kramer and Jerry’s arch-nemesis, mailman and neighbor known only as “Newman”.

Though I have to say that I was a bit surprised that the either the Winter Chalet or the Legend of Zelda product ideas did not make it to the cut, I am still happy for the fan designers behind these winning projects. The LEGO Ideas Typewriter is a technically impressive piece of work, while the LEGO Home Alone and Seinfeld sets will surely hit the nostalgic sweet spots of older LEGO fans.

3rd results

It’s too early to tell on when these winning product ideas will be eventually available since the LEGO Ideas design and review teams will certainly be hard at work on these three fan projects. They also have a handful of product ideas to work on as they now enter the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage with its staggering 26 qualifiers. It will surely be a busy year at LEGO Ideas HQ.

LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review Results Are Coming In With A Huge Giveaway

After hinting on the upcoming LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review Results a couple of weeks ago, the LEGO Ideas Review Team has now revealed that the results for this review stage will be up in the next 24 hours. To make the announcement even more exciting for fans, LEGO Ideas Engagement Manager, Hasan Jensen, kicks off the big reveal with an equally huge raffle giveaway.

LEGO fans now have a chance of winning the impressive and much desired LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay (21322) by simply sending in your comment on which among these 10K qualifiers do you think will eventually emerge as the next official LEGO Ideas set.

How do you win?
Let us know in the comments of either this LEGO Ideas blog post or the relevant Facebook post what you think the results of this LEGO Ideas review will be based on the 10K Club submissions shown in this blog post. We’ll draw 1 random winner on each platform from among all those who guess correctly or guess the closest either via the blog post or Facebook. (i.e. 1 winner among comments on the LEGO Ideas blog and 1 winner among comments on the LEGO Ideas Facebook post).

Deadline
We’ll close for guesses at 4pm CET (Danish time) on the 23rd June, 2020, as soon as the results are revealed.

Just don’t forget to post your comment either on the LEGO Ideas blog site, or over at their Facebook page where the above video is found, on or before the deadline at 11 AM EDT or 8 AM PDT the next day.

Truth be told, I’m really hoping for the Legend of Zelda BotW Stables product idea to push through. It will be a good indicator of things to come between LEGO and Nintendo if this product idea is pulled off, especially considering that we already have our official line up of LEGO Super Mario sets.

And while we’re still waiting for the official LEGO versions of the winners of the LEGO Ideas Second 2019 Review Stage in the form of the LEGO Ideas Medieval Blacksmith and Winnie the Pooh sets,  which product idea do you think will make the cut in the LEGO Ideas Third 2019 Review? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

LEGO Ideas Update: Eight Entries Qualify for the Second 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage

Last month we saw a record-breaking number of LEGO Ideas Review Stage qualifiers that represent an astounding 26 projects in all. Now that we have entered the first month of the next 2020 LEGO Ideas Qualifying Stage, it is highly likely that we might see the same trend again. Because in just more than a month, we now have a total of eight 10K qualifiers that are now guaranteed to be included in the Second 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

I have to admit that I’ve not covered much of LEGO Ideas during these past few weeks, but seeing how the community is flourishing amidst this pandemic is truly encouraging. I’m pretty sure that the LEGO Ideas Team has a lot in their hands right now.

While waiting for the announcement of our next official LEGO Ideas set which is slated to happen anytime soon, let’s take a look at these next batch of 10K qualifiers. What I also find interesting about these entries is that most of them were submitted during the time when most of the world is still in lockdown, and managed to gather the needed 10,000 votes in just a short period of time. Indeed, our creativity will not be stifled even by this pandemic. Check this out.

Given this trend of submissions and approval, it is probably right to assume that before the Second 2020 LEGO Review Stage actually commences we might have a total number of qualifiers that may outnumber those from the last review stage. We can probably expect a longer turnaround time with regards to their review until such time that LEGO Ideas Review Team can come up with a way to work around such a volume of entries.

26 LEGO Ideas Projects Qualify for the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage

I haven’t covered much of LEGO Ideas recently, so looking back at how things went during these past few weeks are certainly quite a surprise. A groundbreaking, 26 LEGO Ideas projects all qualified for this year’s First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. It’s unprecedented, considering the fact that we only get to see around a dozen entries or so every review stage.

I guess its a testament on how active the LEGO fan community has been lately considering most of us are forced to stay home during these times. Whatever is the case, I’m glad to see this many projects qualify and I’m sure it will be a considerable challenge for the LEGO Ideas Review Team to select those that will eventually come on top as the next official LEGO Ideas set. I also reckon that it will take some time before we can hear the outcome of these results, considering all the fan interviews and IP concerns that need to be hurdled.

I also have my personal selections, and I’m hoping product ideas such as the Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone, Knight Rider- KITT or The Iron Giant will eventually become official LEGO sets. Though in the meantime, I will settle for Build Better Bricks’ excellent rendition of the 90’s popular robot. You may want to check it out as well.

I’m sure you have your own bets, so let’s take a quick look at these First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage qualifiers that made the cut. Click on the links below for more details, drop us a comment, and let us know which among these is your favorite.

This is really quite a list, and I’m very excited about how things will turn out for this batch. The LEGO Ideas Review Team also mentioned that they are now wrapping it up for the Third 2019 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, with a total of 12 projects that qualified. I hope we can hear from them soon in the next few weeks.

LEGO Ideas Knight Rider – KITT Enters This Year’s First Review Stage

Fans of this NBC classic TV show will surely want to see this AI-powered car rendered into LEGO bricks. The LEGO Ideas Knight Rider – KITT is our next qualifier for this year’s LEGO Ideas First Review Stage, and it’s a cool way of celebrating the 80s show that most of us grew up with.

LEGO Ideas Knight Rider

Designed by LEGO fan builder Jimmi-DK, the LEGO Ideas Knight Rider – KITT (or short for Knight Industries Two Thousand) consists of 883 pieces and is the 13th entry to qualify for the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. It measures more than 13 inches in length and comes very close to the LEGO Creator Expert Ford Mustang (10265) in terms of its physical dimensions.

In fact, this is not the first time that LEGO will be coming up with a Knight Rider inspired set. If you recall, the now discontinued LEGO Dimensions theme also offered a Knight Rider Fun Pack (71286) as a way of expanding its toys-to-life ensemble in 2017. However, the mini builds that go with these Fun Packs are a far cry in terms of accurately portraying their real-life counterparts. Hopefully having a LEGO Ideas Knight Rider set will fill in that gap that LEGO fans of the TV show would like to see.

LEGO Ideas Knight Rider

In case you’re not familiar with the classic TV series that inspired this qualifying entry, NBC’s Knight Rider first aired back in 1982, with David Hasselhoff’s starring in his breakout role as an LA police officer.  He played the role of a cop that is out for justice against those that are otherwise considered above the law. He is helped in his mission by an AI-powered supercar sidekick in the form of KITT.  Think of Siri or Alexa on wheels and you’ll get the point. The car itself is based on a modified 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am model, hence the sleek curves on this brick design. I can just imagine how gorgeous it will look in black LEGO pieces if perchance the LEGO Ideas design team works their LEGO magic on this product idea.

Here’s what Jimmi-DK has to say about his entry. The LEGO Ideas Knight Rider – KITT joins The Great Fishing Boat together with eleven more qualifiers to enter the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage which will be concluded very soon.

Knight Rider – KITT

LEGO Ideas Knight Rider

As a kid in the 80s, I was, and still am, a huge fan of the TV series Knight Rider. I had a big poster on the wall with KITT and Michael Knight. The idea of having this cool looking self-aware car, that could drive itself, talk and jump over obstacles was very fascinating. KITT, which stands for Knight Industries Two Thousand, was a modified 1982 Pontiac Trans Am.
With this LEGO model, I have tried to capture the shape of the car and various details, such as the seats and other interiors.
