At this point in time, the LEGO Ideas Third 2021 Review Stage now boasts 32 10-K-supported product ideas. The latest addition to this batch for product review comes from a build first submitted only in February this year. Indeed, we have another product idea that garnered the necessary 10,000 supporters in less than a year. This new entry to the latest review stage also increases the number of notable vehicle builds in the selection. While not a fantastical design, the real-world aesthetic and proper minifigure scaling gives it some strong points. Now take a look at this NASA SR-71 Blackbird.
This new 10-K Ideas submission is the brainchild of Brickerbeard. As made obvious, this is a LEGO model of the famed Lockheed SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft. The so-called Blackbird saw action in high-altitude recon during the Cold War decades. When it was initially retired in 1988, NASA took two SR-71s for suborbital supersonic flight tests until 1998. Brickerbeard used around 1,650 LEGO pieces to recreate the aircraft in just the right scale to seat two minifigures. He also went for additional accurate details. The NASA livery is spot on. The same goes for the pilot-navigator team, based on NASA SR-71 operators Edward Schneider and Marta Bohn-Meyer.
This NASA SR-71 product idea may seem barebones with just the plane and two minifigs. But in Brickerbeard’s case, the simple approach is best. We’ll have to wait and see if this 10-K submission makes it through the Third 2021 Review Stage. Said review period will end sometime early 2022.
LEGO Ideas 10-K submissions appear to be busying up once again. We just covered one the day before, and not only has another product idea followed, one earlier submission was missed. Ah, sorry about that. Anyhow, let’s take a look at these latest product ideas that qualified to enter the LEGO Ideas Third 2021 Review Stage.
First, we’ll talk about this modest yet cheeky contribution by SzegoBalint16: The LEGO Emergency Box. As you can see, this is a brick-built emergency case much like one will find in public buildings. It even has an attached hammer ready for use in breaking the glass in case of emergency. What kind of LEGO crisis would need such a contingency setup? Why, the sudden need for a brick separator, of course! There’s an orange one waiting behind the transparent LEGO panels. And at 101 pieces total, this could possibly become the first LEGO Ideas polybag…if it passes review, of course.
Next on our feature is this sweet interior set based on yet another hit TV series. Remember back in 2018, when Fox canceled “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” only for NBC to catch it? At the time, TT Games Global Community Manager Bear Parker recreated the show’s intro using LEGO videogame graphics. It was quite well-received. And if viewers were impressed by the titular NYPD station’s floor layout in that video, BenFankhauser has redone it. His brick rendition of the Brooklyn 99’s workspace could go toe-to-toe with Jaijai Lewis’ “The Office.” Recall that his submission was selected in the First 2021 Review Stage.
This build of 2,500+ pieces also comes with minifigures of the police sitcom’s main cast. While “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” has run its course on two networks, this product idea could become a proper sendoff. Of course, BenFankhauser’s submission must now place itself at the mercy of the LEGO Ideas review team. It’ll have fierce competition alongside SzegoBalint16’s LEGO Emergency Box and twelve other 10-K submissions in the Third LEGO Ideas 2021 Review Stage.
The LEGO Ideas Third 2021 Review Stage is filling out quite nicely with its product ideas. These submissions run the gamut from fantasy to reality, “natural” to artificial and now retro-mechanical to modern cutting-edge. If a fictional military robot given sentience isn’t your cup of high-tech tea, perhaps you’d like real science? Ideas member tonysmyuncle only has one contribution at present. Its technological nature seems to imply which “tony” he’s referring to in his username. This product idea depicts a real scientific instrument going to space less than two months from now. Say hello to the James Webb Space Telescope.
Designed as a potential replacement to the aging Hubble Space Telescope, the JWST suffered developmental setbacks of its own. But if nothing new will hamper it, we can expect NASA to launch this space telescope on December 18. And as if to coincide with that event, tonysmyuncle’s build of the JWST just hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. Looking like a flat mini-“Star Wars” ship topped with a mirror array, the JWST features 18 movable segments. It can fold down into a stored form for “loading” in a rocket. The brick-built satellite matches the scale with its included astronaut minifigure.
The JWST becomes entry number 11 in the ongoing Third 2021 Review Stage. We at TheBrick Show continue to be amazed at the fast 10-K entry of product ideas in these. Who knows; maybe they’ll even match the milestone 50+ submissions to the First 2021 Review Stage. Anything’s possible.
After going through 25 product ideas, the LEGO Ideas Review Team has finally made its selection with the announcement of the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage results. Among 25 product ideas that reached 10,000 supporters over at the LEGO Ideas website from September 2020 to January 2021, the review board is finally ready to share their decision.
The title and honor of becoming the next official LEGO Ideas set goes to the original creation of LEGO fan designer Sandro Quattrini (aka Roses Must Build), the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse. You may watch the official announcement by LEGO Ideas Engagement Manager, Hasan Jensen, and LEGO Ideas Design Manager, Samuel Johnson right here.
Though this is not the first time that LEGO offered a brick-built lighthouse, the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse will be the first to be featured on such a large scale with automated functionalities. Sandro’s original concept is to create the lighthouse up to 47 cm. tall, making it up to scale with nanofigures. It also includes Power Functions to make the base of the light brick rotate on top of the lighthouse. Watch the video demonstration below to have a better look.
As a LEGO Ideas fan, I am truly supportive of LEGO fan designers who took the time and effort of designing and promoting their original creations. Love it or hate it, the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse is no doubt a work of art and a testament to the ingenuity and skills of LEGO fan designers. It’s impractical to expect that everyone will be happy with the decision of the LEGO Ideas Review Board, but at the end of the day, the LEGO Ideas platform is a celebration of the talent and skills of LEGO fan builders and the overwhelming support that they receive from the community. So again, a huge congratulations to Sandro for this original creation.
Looking forward, the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is about to be wrapped up, with a record-breaking total of 57 entries being currently in review. The results of this review cycle are slated to be announced sometime this fall, and I’m pretty excited at what original creation or creations, will eventually be selected to become the next LEGO Ideas set(s).
A total of 57 product ideas are vying to become the next LEGO Ideas set, slated to be announced this fall of 2021.
And while waiting for these results, and if you haven’t done so yet, I suggest that you take a closer look at the recently offered LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327). For more LEGO Ideas sets, you may also take a look at LEGO Shop@Home. Again, congratulations to Sandro and to his LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse!
The First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage started on a high note with the announcement of yet another record-breaking 57 product ideas. And hot on the heels of this batch of qualifiers are the first product ideas that managed to enter the Second 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.
The Movie Set by Castor-Troy, and Imperial Island Fort by 10K Club Member BrickHammer, are the two initial product ideas that gained the support of more than 10,000 LEGO enthusiasts, qualifying them to enter the Second 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. The former features 8 facades and movie props that give your favorite movie that funny LEGO twist; while the latter takes its inspiration from the classic LEGO Pirates Eldorado Fortress (6276) from 1989.
The Movie Set product idea is a cool way to bring your minifigure filming up to a new level with its diverse selection of brick-built background props. And fans of the classic LEGO Pirates theme will certainly appreciate the Imperial Island Fort if perchance this MOC qualifies to become an official LEGO Ideas set, similar to its predecessor the LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay (21322).
Read on for more details about these Second 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage qualifiers, and what their respective creators have to say. You may also click on their links to know more about these entries. Congratulations to their respective builders as well!
The set includes 8 facades, movie props, and figurines, for a total of 2900 pieces. This creation is not based on any license. We made some visuals to suggest ideas of presentation and playability. The facades are 16 studs wide and include supports at the back that allows them to stand on their own, and to be combined at will. We focused on the aesthetics and design of the facades while making sure that the set offers a lot of possibilities and playability for the AFOLs :
For those who like to display their LEGO set, the Movie Set will be an optimal choice, as it makes optimal use of pieces for that purpose
The set can be used to reproduce scenes from cult movies by combining the different facades,
For those who like to take pictures or make brickfilms, the set would make a great background scenery
You can make a tracking shot with your smartphone over 1 meter long, thanks to a cart specially designed for that purpose,
For those who have a LEGO city, the Movie Set would make a very nice background
Finally, for those who like big LEGO buildings, all facades can be put together to form a single building that would fit well together with other modular buildings.
Since I was a child I have been a big fan of pirates and the old pirate Lego theme! Now as an adult I am still an avid fan of history! This small island fortress is therefore supposed to be a blend of nostalgic classic Lego red coat fortresses like the Eldorado Fortress and actual real-life Caribbean architecture!
The Build
The island consists of a big main castle on top of a rocky cliff and a pier beneath it. The castle contains a gatehouse tower and the governor’s house!
The pier beneath the castle is fortified with 2 cannon bastions to guard the island from incoming pirate ships or Armada attacks!
They just keep on coming, and I love it! The LEGO Ideas fan submission platform has just concluded with another record-breaking high, with a total of 57 product ideas qualifying for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review stage, as announced over their blogsite. These 57 submissions managed to get the necessary 10,000 fan votes needed to progress for this year’s first LEGO Ideas review.
Since the start of the pandemic, the LEGO Ideas platform saw a steady increase of fan submissions, largely as a result of increased LEGO building at home. As I’ve mentioned before in a previous related article, this is a testament to how LEGO building as a hobby, turned out to be a positive outlet for most LEGO fans as we strive to cope with the series of lockdowns and stay-at-home orders.
I’ve always been a fan of LEGO Ideas, and I’ve covered and supported some of its fan submissions that eventually found their way to becoming official LEGO Ideas sets. And I also intend to continuously cover every LEGO Ideas fan submission that reaches that 10K support milestone. However, the recent influx of review stage qualifiers is just kind of hard to keep track of! I guess I just have to double down on keeping them on my radar. It will always be a pleasure to see the creativity of the LEGO fan community spring into life, so be ready with the scroll wheel because this will be a very lengthy list.
Additionally, it should be mentioned that there was a particular fan submission that didn’t make the cut even though it managed to reach 10,000 supporters. The Stadium Tour did not eventually qualify for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review because it failed to follow the platform’s stipulated guidelines, particularly on “intellectual properties”.
As a last note, the Third 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is about to be concluded, with the announcement of the winner slated to happen sometime this summer. We have to wait a lit bit more to see which among the 25 qualifiers in this particular review stage will go on to become an official LEGO Ideas set. For now, let’s take a look at what these new 57 product qualifiers for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage has to offer. Which is your personal favorite? Let us know in the comments below.
If you are actively into supporting LEGO fan creations over at the LEGO Ideas platform, chances are there are a lot of product ideas that you voted for that eventually did not made it past the Review Stage. And this time around through a collaboration with BrickLink, some of these disapproved LEGO Ideas projects may still have a chance to become a LEGO set soon.
Dubbed as the BrickLink Designer Program: 2021 Invitational, 31 LEGO Ideas 10K club projects were chosen to be included in this crowdfunding initiative. Through this, these qualified but disapproved LEGO Ideas projects will go through pre-production, crowdfunding, and production stages where BrickLink members who pre-ordered these sets will have the chance of having these delivered to them.
For more information on what these 31 LEGO Ideas 10K projects are, you may head over to BrickLink’s website right here. You may also go through the details and FAQs provided by the LEGO Ideas blogsite.

KICKING OFF THE BRICKLINK DESIGNER PROGRAM: 2021 INVITATIONAL
As communicated in December 2020, we planned to invite a selection of LEGO Ideas members and their 10K Club submissions to participate in the pilot program, the purpose being to realize more of the amazing fan designs that are submitted to LEGO Ideas.
The result has been that 27 members have agreed to participate in 31 10K Club projects. We’re thrilled at the response we got from the invited members with almost 100% of the invited members deciding to accept our invitation.
The designers are already very busy at work on their designs in the “pre-production” phase. In this phase, designers must re-work their designs to fit a few program requirements, such as having to build their creations digitally in BrickLink’s Studio using a particular palette of LEGO bricks and colors, resizing their designs to fit between 400-4000 elements and more.
The pre-production phase, which ends May 31st will also include testing phases. Submissions must pass the pre-production phase and deadline to have their design(s) eligible for crowdfunding.
On the BrickLink landing page, you can find the overall timeline for the program as well as an in-depth FAQ that can hopefully assist you with answers to your questions. The BrickLink team will also be available to answer your questions.
FAQ
WHY WERE SO MANY OTHER 10K CREATORS NOT INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BDP 2021 INVITATIONAL?
Considering the maximum number of sets we can produce, only 32 projects were selected among all the unrealized LEGO Ideas projects. No IP-based models are invited to the program as they cannot be produced through this program.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO DESIGNS THAT DON’T MEET THE PROGRAM CRITERIA DURING THE PRE-PRODUCTION PHASE?
Designers of all the participating projects have to revise their original design to meet the program requirements and pass the test building before May 31st. Only the projects that meet the production requirements will be listed for crowdfunding.
HOW MANY DESIGNS WILL BECOME BRICKLINK DESIGNER PROGRAM SETS?
Only the first 13 projects to reach the crowdfunding goal will become BrickLink Designer Program sets.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE DESIGNS THAT DON’T REACH THE CROWDFUNDING GOAL OR ARE NOT AMONG THE 13 QUICKEST TO HIT THEIR GOAL?
The remaining projects in the crowdfunding phase that don’t become BrickLink Designer Program sets will be sold as digital Building Instructions only so that you can still have an opportunity to find your own bricks to build them.
HOW ARE FAN CREATORS COMPENSATED FOR THEIR IDEAS?
Fan designers will receive a 10% royalty fee for BrickLink Designer Program sets, while designers of Digital Building Instructions will receive a 75% royalty fee.
WILL YOU MODIFY THE ORIGINAL LEGO IDEAS DESIGN DURING PRODUCTION?
In the BrickLink Designer Program, we do not intend to change the original designs that are loved by the fans, but there can be inevitable modifications due to production requirements, such as part availability and stability issues. All design revisions will be done by the original designer, and the revision history will be shared on the project’s details page.
If winning the support of the LEGO fan community is not enough for the second time, why not earn it for the third time? Such feat is now impressively accomplished by LEGO fan builder and designer Artem Biziaev with his next product idea that managed to earn the support of 10,000+ LEGO fans – the LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth.
If you recall from last week, I reported on the current status of product ideas that have achieved support already over at LEGO Ideas, even if the First 2021 LEGO Review Stage is yet to commence in April. From this listing, we can find that other projects submitted by Artem eventually entered into that elite circle of 10K product ideas, which includes Hyrule Castle (The Legend of Zelda) and Baba Yaga. And now with the inclusion of his LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth product idea, almost all of his entries virtually advance to the next level.
The LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth features a brick-built version of Tolkien’s map of Middle-Earth, highlighting the many different places that were mentioned in the author’s Lord of the Ring trilogy. And much more, doing it in such a way that makes these locations easily recognizable even at a microscale. Mordor’s black, and infamous landscape can easily be recognized in this sort of 3D map (not to mention the wicked, all-seeing eye of Sauron), including The Shire and the kingdom of Erebor. Artem also included a handful of nanofigures of some of the most popular characters in the trilogy, adding a certain play feature to his product idea. You can chart a course for Frodo and Sam towards the land of Mordor, or you can send Pippin and Merry on a mission to Fangorn Forest. And of course, I love how this minifigure version of Tolkien turned out with several book accessories representing the Lord of Rings series plus The Hobbit.
Here’s how Artem Biziaev describes his LEGO creation.
Hey, Lego fans!
I’m Artem. I really love The Lord of the Rings trilogy. And i’m so excited to show you my little Idea.
Before we start let me ask you: do you know that Minas Morgul is across the river from Minas Tirith? That very close! BOOM! Now you know. And can explore more…
Look at this beautiful Middle Earth Lego map! The legend on your table.
I have placed and signed all the key objects from both trilogies. Now everyone can visually explore the path of the heroes there and back again.
Also here are the pretty travelers microfigures for your convenience.
Put your micro-Frodo and micro-Sam in the Dead Swamps, Pippin and Merry in the Fangorn forest, and everyone else in Helm’s Deep – so you played the events of the Two Towers.
I hope you enjoy my Middle-earth map! 😉
Artem’s LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth product idea is the 30th project to make it to the next LEGO Ideas review stage. Congratulations and I wish him all the best!
After seeing the Jazz Quartet reached its 10K milestone, another product idea reaches the inner circle of the LEGO Ideas Review Stage. Coming from a LEGO fan builder that has one of his LEGO Ideas entries already approved for production, we now have another potential LEGO set in the form of the LEGO Ideas My Totoro product idea.
Designed by legotruman, the LEGO Ideas My LEGO Totoro is his next creation to get the thumbs-up approval of fans following his approved LEGO Ideas Vincent van Gogh The Starry Night. This next entry features Studio Ghibli’s iconic character based on the anime movie My Neighbor Totoro. The set features a brick-built version of Totoro, a smaller blue version of him, and minifigure versions of sisters Satsuki and Mei. But makes this set stand out other than Totoro is the inclusion of the famous Cat Bus.
The front side of the bus features a well-sculpted cat face and comes with a removable rooftop that reveals spacious bus seats. The bus also comes with six pairs of legs and a sizeable beaver-like tail.
Here’s how legotruman describes his LEGO Ideas My LEGO Totoro.
This is my dream Lego set!
Ever since I was a kid and watched “My Neighbor Totoro” for the first time, I wanted Lego to make a set with Totoro and Cat Bus.
I believe a lot of Lego fans share the same dream 🙂

Features :
LEGO Totoro
To match the original animation, Lego Totoro is scaled to about twice the height of the Satsuki minifigure.
The whiskers are made of lego wolverine’s claws 🙂
The chest pattern is formed with lego parts instead of printed pieces.
I also used a smooth finishing surface to make it look cuter and more like the animation.
– Part count: 116
Cat Bus
Each leg is posable, so your Lego Cat Bus can run and jump as you like!
The left side of the main body has a loose part. You can easily switch the parts to give Cat Bus an open ‘door’, just like in the anime.
The roof is removable so you can easily access the interior, and put minifigures inside for a ride!
The top red panel displaying the destination is a 1×4 brick, multiple Kanji options can be included for changing the target station.
– Part Count: 718
The set also includes
Satsuki and Mei Lego minifigures, with an umbrella to recreate the iconic “raining bus station” scene (See the image above XD)
Blue Totoro
The Bus station, with accurate Kanji print to match the original animation.
– Total parts: 869

LEGO Ideas My LEGO Totoro joins 28 other projects to qualify for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage which is expected to begin late this March or early April.
And the list just keeps on growing. It was only yesterday when I shared how the LEGO Ideas Review Team might be seeing their largest number of qualifying sets to enter a particular LEGO Ideas Review Stage as of date. We’re not even past the halfway mark of the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, and yet, we are already seeing a total of 27 product ideas that managed to gather 10,000 fan support starting January of this year. And this time around, another set is added to the roster of 10K achievers in the form of the LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet product idea.
From the creative mind of LEGO fan builder Hsinwei Chi, this prolific builder managed to wow fans once more with his latest qualifying entry. This is not the first time that Hsinwei Chi’s creations were noticed by the LEGO Ideas Review Team. If you recall, one of his builds won as 2nd Runner Up for the LEGO Ideas Greatest Star Wars Battles Built By You. In addition to this achievement, the LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet was also named as 2nd Runner Up for the more recent LEGO Ideas Music To Our Ears fan vote contest. And as if winning on these contests is not enough for this ultra-talented LEGO builder from Taiwan, his other creation (the Tribute to Youth – Skateboarding) has been chosen as one of the ten finalists in the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! fan vote contest.
What makes Hsinwei Chi’s (also known as lego7 over at Instagram) creations stand out is their natural, almost organic feel that these builds have. It almost feels like we’re seeing a LEGO Miniland set, but upgraded up to a notch. The way they are posed and articulated, while still maintaining a distinct LEGO brick look and feel, stands out among the rest of the entries. Just take a look at his Instagram account where he usually posts his brick creations and you’ll get a better picture of what I mean.
And speaking about his latest achievement here’s what he has to say about his LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet
Speaking of music therapy, free-spirited jazz can be medicine for your mind, with benefits from memory improvement to stress relief.
Jazz Quartet consists of a grand piano, trumpet, double bass, and jazz drum. I would like to use LEGO bricks to express the musical vitality of the jazz band. When you look at this creation, the most familiar jazz improvisation will ring in your head.
The whole set consists of four musicians and a stage. Put it on the bookshelf and let us feel the warmth of jazz music.
The LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet product idea joins the rest of 27 10K qualifiers to make it to the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage which will commence sometime in April.
