More Toy Fair News: New LEGO Star Wars Summer 2019 Sets Announced

Note: The image above is from 2009’s LEGO Star Wars The Battle of Endor (8038) set. Following the reveal of the summer 2019 LEGO City and LEGO Technic sets, LEGO has also announced the release of additional LEGO Star Wars Summer 2019 sets, following the announcement of its 20th year LEGO Star Wars commemorative sets. There will be two new series to watch out for, including a subtheme dedicated to the new animated series, Star Wars Resistance. We’re still following the events as covered by LEGO fan correspondent Zusammengebaut at the on-going Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany. Here’s what was revealed so far.

LEGO Star Wars Resistance

  • Major Vanreg’s TIE fighter (75240)
  • Black Ace TIE-Interceptor (75242)
  • Duel on Starkiller Base (75236)

LEGO Star Wars Action Battle

  • Endor Assault (75238)
  • Hoth Generator (75239)
  • Echo Base (75241)

2019 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar (75245)

Star Wars D2C set (75252)

Rumors of a LEGO Star Wars Resistance subtheme were making their rounds recently across LEGO fan forums, and it is now confirmed that this such the case. It is also interesting to note that after 6 years since the last time we saw them in the D2C set LEGO Star Wars Ewok Village (10236) and 2015’s LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar (75097), we get to see the Ewoks once again in the Endor Assault (75238).  I’m not really sure what’s the deal with the Action Battle series, but judging on the way the sets are presented around this subtheme, it looks like it’s a collection of sets that you can bring together and connect. This first offering of LEGO Star Wars Action Battle sets kind of remind me of the not so well received Assault on Hoth (75098) set from 2016. I do hope LEGO is not tempting fans to recreate this failed D2C set once again in piecemeal format.

Lastly, this wave of new LEGO Star Wars summer 2019 sets will also include a tightly guarded D2C set simply referred to as set 75252. We have no hint whatsoever on what this set could be, but I do wish this is not another rehashed set of sorts. We’ll know soon enough.

From the Rumor Mill: LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary Sets and Minifigures Identified

2019 is a special year for the majority of LEGO fans since this year marks the 20th year milestone of one of LEGO’s longest running licensed theme. LEGO has already revealed its intention of coming up with an exclusive line of LEGO Star Wars commemorative sets when it unveiled its special, 20 Years of LEGO Star Wars logo. Needless to say, whatever sets and minifigures that will make it to the cut of this prized, limited-edition anniversary sets will closely be monitored by the excited majority of LEGO Star Wars fans. Thanks to intel gathered by German LEGO fan site Stone Wars, we now have an idea on what these LEGO Star Wars 20th anniversary sets are, and how their minifigures will look like.

03 lego star wars anniversary

It should be noted that though LEGO has released and rehashed many LEGO Star Wars sets in the past, the LEGO Star Wars 20th anniversary sets are unique in themselves because of certain commemorative minifigures included with them. According to Stone Wars, these are the upcoming LEGO Star Wars sets that will have the special commemorative minifigures.

It is also rumored that these commemorative minifigs will also retain the exact same look of their predecessors from 20 years ago: they will sport the original yellow skin tone (except of course for Darth Vader and Lando), and the same torso and leg prints. Now I understand that devout LEGO Star Wars collectors may be shaking their heads in disappointment considering how their precious collection may depreciate in value because of this. However, LEGO was kind enough to include one very distinctive feature to these commemorative LEGO Star Wars minifigures. They will all have a special print on the back of their torso in big bold characters that say: ’20 Years, LEGO Star Wars’. Collectors will surely welcome this nice gesture from LEGO, and it will definitely help in distinguishing these new LEGO Star Wars minifigures from their original prototypes from two decades ago.

Other than the special print at the back of these minifigures, each of them will also come with a commemorative minifig display tile similar to those included in the LEGO CMF line, the difference will be that the studs from the former are placed near the edge of the tile. The minifigure stand also features the same unique print, and the name of the LEGO Star Wars minifigure emblazoned on the larger part of the tile.

Just a bit of a disclaimer though: as the title of this story suggests, this is all but a rumor until such time that LEGO confirms these LEGO Star Wars 20th anniversary sets and minifigures, or a barrage of official images starts to come in. As of now, we’ll keep our radars open and I’ll update you accordingly as new info comes in. While waiting, be sure to check out this year’s newest LEGO Star Wars sets at shop.LEGO.com

RUMOR: Possible New LEGO Star Wars Yoda Statue Coming Late 2019

I have to say, the LEGO Star Wars line has been hitting some high notes with some of its set releases being buildable figures and statues. Articulated, ultrabuild figures of recent years may have had some tough luck in appealing to wider LEGO Star Wars fans, but brick-built figures such as the ‘highly polarizing’ LEGO Star Wars Porg (75230) may seem to have gained some following regardless of our relative displeasure towards it. Somehow related to this, we now have a rumor (first we covered in some time!) about their being a new LEGO Star Wars Yoda statue in the works, depicting the old, wise Jedi Master. This would make it an update on an already-released LEGO Yoda set from 2002 – a LEGO Star Wars UCS Yoda (7194) no less – but more evolved in design.

By evolved, we mean it’s been rumored that the new LEGO Star Wars Yoda statue will be similar in style to the aforementioned LEGO Star Wars Porg (75230). There will likely be some movable parts for this new brick iteration of Yoda, maybe an articulated arm that could hold either a cane or a lightsaber.

But that’s merely speculation right now. And of course, all LEGO-related rumors we discuss here on The Brick Show will be considered as only rumors, until LEGO itself makes an official statement to confirm or debunk these. The LEGO Star Wars Yoda statue is said to release in late 2019, perhaps just in time with the planned tie-ins for Disney’s epic conclusion on the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: Episode IX.

LEGOLAND LEGO Star Wars Days Rumored to be Cancelled

Some good things never last, and sometimes the end comes all of a sudden. For the majority of LEGO fans who are looking forward to next year’s LEGOLAND LEGO Star Wars Days, then it might be prudent to consider that there is none to expect any more from Merlin Entertainment (owner of the LEGO Star Wars Days hosting locations). A report from LEGO and Star Wars insider Rebelscum mentions the sad news that the much-anticipated celebrations will no longer take place in all LEGOLAND locations, with the very last of these events held last month at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester, NY.

Rebelscum states that they’ve received official word from Lucasfilm that says, “2018 would be the last year they do them”, referring to the highly attended LEGO Star Wars fan event. Word on the streets has it that Lucasfilm and Disney are now focused on preparing to reset the longstanding franchise, with expenditures being rechanneled so as to minimize and limit Star Wars exposure. It seems to be part of a master plan to somehow help the Star Wars faithful move on from the Star Wars that we used to know, towards new and unchartered territories that will somehow reboot the decades-old franchise.

It is also possible that Disney is now consolidating all of its Star Wars related properties and theme parks in order to bring them under one roof. Only time can tell if this will be the path that Disney and Lucasfilm have chosen. But what is sure right now is that fans of the LEGOLAND LEGO Star Wars Days is better off not to look forward to another event like this, that yielded so many attractions such as a large-scale LEGO Millennium Falcon made out of 250,000 bricks, and several hard-to-find minifigure promos.

New 2019 LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book Listed at Amazon UK

Here’s another DK offering that will appeal to LEGO Star Wars fans. After the reveal of the LEGO Harry Potter Build Your Own Adventure book a few days ago, Amazon UK has now listed a similar LEGO DK book that takes its cue from the LEGO Star Wars theme. The LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book Galactic Missions is now available for pre-order via Amazon UK, and I hope that it will find its way soon in the US.

LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book

Like other Build Your Own Adventure books, this upcoming release also comes with an exclusive LEGO Star Wars build and a minifigure. It also gives plenty of suggested alternate builds that you can create using the free LEGO pieces that goes with it. Understandably, the exclusive LEGO Star Wars build that comes with this book is still yet to be revealed, and we only have an outline of its image placeholder to speculate on. I couldn’t help but notice how similar it is to the shape and form of the Cloud City Patrol ship found in the recent LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) set. The pieces also shown on the cover of the book, if this is the actual pieces to be used for the build, also hints on the predominantly dark red color of the ship.

The LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book Galactic Missions will be available on August 1, 2019 – a good nine months from now – and will retail for £19.99. That’s kind of a very long wait, but if you don’t mind the long wait, then I’m sure this book will eventually pop up at other Amazon regional sites very soon. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect from this newest LEGO DK title.

Rumored 2019 LEGO Star Wars Polybags Celebrate 20 Years of Product Line

In 1999, George Lucas brought out the culmination of his promise to make a back story movie for Star Wars’ most infamous Sith Lord, Darth Vader, with Episode I: The Phantom Menace showing his origin as a Tatooine slave boy in the person of Anakin Skywalker. To coincide with the debut of the first Star Wars prequel, LEGO also released its first licensed theme set, which later became one of its most lucrative line of building sets: LEGO Star Wars. Now that the theme will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, we can certainly expect LEGO to highlight this milestone – and intel suggests that one of the ways LEGO will celebrate this is by offering a new line of 2019 LEGO Star Wars polybags.

LEGO insider Sir von Lego via Eurobricks has dropped the names of at least three 2019 LEGO Star Wars polybags that will come out in 2019 as tribute to 20 years of The Phantom Menace and the LEGO Star Wars line itself.

2019 lego star wars polybags

Micro versions of the Naboo Starfighter (30383), Snowspeeder (30384) and Anakin’s Podracer (30461) are expected, their labels and numbers having been corroborated by news source Rebelscum.

Longtime collectors of LEGO Star Wars might recall that the three vehicles to get a polybag version are also among the very first sets released in the original 1999 launch of the LEGO Star Wars product line. Particularly Anakin’s Podracer (7131), Naboo Fighter (7141) and Snowspeeder (7130).

That’s a neat touch, and we can definitely expect more sets to come which we hope to reveal anytime soon.
