Another LEGO Con 2022 Showcase: LEGO Avatar Toruk Makto and Tree of Souls (75574)

We can undoubtedly thank LEGO Con 2022 for putting images to the sets they’ve been teasing for some time. Many of the reveals we’ve covered are things LEGO’s done before. This one’s all-new regarding licensed IPs getting the LEGO treatment. To think that the rumored “Coconut” project would be tie-in sets for James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. The sequel to the 2009 film, Avatar: The Way of Water is coming this holiday season. It’s fair, perhaps, that the inaugural LEGO Avatar Toruk Makto and Tree of Souls (75574) set came out months before that, as reported by Stone Wars.

The LEGO Avatar Toruk Makto and Tree of Souls (75574) is a visually impressive brick-rendition from 20th Century Studios’ Avatar sequel. It depicts a key location on the alien planet Pandora, the Tree of Souls revered by the people of the Na’vi. Also present are Sully, the human in a Na’vi avatar body, his love interest Neytiri and Sully’s Toruk flying beast. The set offers a nice contrast between the decorative Tree of Souls and the poseable Toruk mount. The LEGO Avatar Toruk Makto and Tree of Souls (75574) will officially launch on October 1, although collectors can preorder it now at LEGO.com.

That said, here are the details from the official product listing:

LEGO Lists Tie-In Sets for Disney-Pixar’s “Lightyear”

All the way from the first “Toy Story” film in 1995, fans have been fascinated with Buzz Lightyear’s backstory. We knew he was an action figure based on a hit sci-fi franchise according to Disney and Pixar. They initially conceived the franchise as an in-universe TV show that the “Toy Story” characters watched. Disney-Pixar’s “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command” premiered as a direct-to-video release and animated series in 2000-01. Since 2021 however, they’ve been hyping a new take on the Buzz mythos, with the upcoming CGI film “Lightyear.” And as with major Disney media, LEGO has tie-in sets arriving soon.

Brickset tells us that LEGO’s listed at least three LEGO tie-ins for Disney-Pixar’s “Lightyear,” premiering in mid-2022. In keeping with the more “realistic” designs from the upcoming movie, the upcoming sets feature pretty spiffy tech-builds. We’re looking forward to seeing Buzz and his fellow Space Rangers fight towering robots and flying hyper-spacecraft. Check out some of these official product details:

LEGO.com Malaysia Lists BrickHeadz Buzz Lightyear (40552), Teases Woody and Bo Peep (40553)

Let’s take a brief rest from the LEGO catalog that Germany got and look at some new official LEGO.com listings. Having an upcoming LEGO set debut on another country’s LEGO.com before the major English-language national editions isn’t new. Just recently as reported by The Brick Fan, some new BrickHeadz appeared on Malaysia’s English-language LEGO website. Actually, just one set was officially listed, but its box image spoiled a double-BrickHeadz set following it. To add to curiosity, these buildable characters tie into Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 4,” which released in 2019. But hey, who can say no to BrickHeadz Buzz and more?

Beyond box/product images and printed details, the Malaysia LEGO.com listing for BrickHeadz Buzz Lightyear (40552) is bare-bones. We don’t know the prize (though it might be the usual $9.99) and release date. But at least Disney and BrickHeadz collectors now know that it’s coming. The same goes for BrickHeadz Woody and Bo Peep (40553) too.

New Disney Princess Bundle (5007204) Available at LEGO.com UK

Want to get a head start on collecting LEGO sets but can’t be bothered to hunt them down individually? You could always keep an eye out for the bundles. LEGO and its retail partners tend to release them every once in a while. Just last month, Walmart gave us three LEGO Marvel “Mech Armor” sets in an affordable 3-in-1 Pack (66671). The arctic base LEGO City sets from a few years ago also got bundled courtesy of LEGO.com UK in 2018. It’s their corner of the LEGO online store that brings us this new collection of sets from LEGO Disney.

Brick Fanatics tells us that LEGO.com for UK now lists a Disney Princess Ultimate Celebration Bundle (5007204). Sounds cool for a Disney fan, huh? Then again, the bundle consists of just one LEGO Disney Princess set. The other sets are from the LEGO DOTS theme, plus two Disney key-chains and two early 2021 VIP rewards. Consider this list of contents:

All these could be had from LEGO UK at £74.99/€84.99. Adding the individual prices of the above gives us the total £92.93/€103.93, so the bundle price is a good deal. The LEGO Disney Princess Ultimate Celebration Bundle (5007204) is available now, ahead of Black Friday. If you’re in the UK and fancy these items then it’s best to get the bundle now. Getting two VIP rewards is a nice bonus.

LEGO Lands Multiple Nominations in 2022 Toy of the Year Awards

Every year the Toy Association honors the best products in the industry through its annual Toy of the Year Awards. It doesn’t take a follower of these events to know that LEGO is a regular nominee and awardee here. Being one of the biggest toy brands in modern history is a perk in itself. Furthermore, many of the sets they release year after year deserve nominations and wins. The 2022 Toy of the Year Awards is no exception. Of the 16 possible categories, LEGO has representation in at least eight. Some of these categories even have multiple LEGO nominees.

Here are LEGO’s 2022 nominated products:

Collectible of the Year

LEGO Marvel Series Collectible Minifigures (71031)

2022 Toy of the Year

Construction Toy of the Year

LEGO Friends Heartlake City Grand Hotel (41684)

Specialty Toy of the Year

LEGO – Everyone is Awesome (40516)

STEAM Toy of the Year

LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Ferris Wheel (31119)

31119 1

Vehicle of the Year

LEGO Icons Porsche 911 (10295)

2022 Toy of the Year

It’s amazing that one set from LEGO’s misfiring Vidiiyo theme also made it in. Then again, that would be the Toy Association’s call. Maybe the accolade (and a possible award) may reinvigorate interest in the Vidiyo line. Who can tell? Anyway, we wish LEGO’s 2022 Toy of the Year Award nominees the best of luck.

LEGO Disney Sets for “Encanto” Revealed

Disney’s latest animated film, “Encanto,” is due to premiere in cinemas this coming November 24. It revisits Latin America through the magical Disney storytelling lens since 2017’s “Coco,” set in Mexico. Now “Encanto” will take viewers to Colombia and introduce the Madrigal Family. Their family members are blessed with various magical powers due to the house their ancestor build. Only Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz) possesses no abilities among them. But when the Madrigals’ magic begins to fade, Mirabel might be the only one who can save them. It’s an interesting premise, right? Soon LEGO Disney fans can play the movie out with these official set tie-ins.

First heard as rumor late in October, LEGO now officially lists three “Encanto” sets online. One is based on the magical house of the Madrigals. The other two are portable sets that pack up into book-shaped cases with door designs. Being LEGO Disney sets, characters from the movie are rendered in either mini-doll or micro-doll forms. And they’re all so cute, wouldn’t you agree? All sets are due to launch next month, on December 1. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at them:

Impressive “Hocus Pocus” Sanderson Cottage Gets 10-K Support on LEGO Ideas

With Halloween coming up really soon, it feels appropriate that the newest LEGO Ideas 10-K submission involves witches. And these are not just any witches, but the most notorious trio of hags from Walt Disney Pictures. Remember the 1993 film “Hocus Pocus”? Watching Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the comedic yet villainous Sanderson Sisters was a treat. They made you laugh and freaked you out at just the right moments, if you saw the movie. Their memorability not only made “Hocus Pocus” a cult classic, it also inspired this product idea.

sanderson cottage sisters

TheAmbrinator presents this “Hocus Pocus” Sanderson Sisters Cottage set, which has gained 10,000 supporters. An earlier edition of this product idea did not pass a Review Stage despite outside media attention. Now TheAmbrinator’s determined that this updated build will go through. With all the crazy details to be found here, how could it not? Optional elements can convert the set between the 17th Century Sanderson cottage or the 1993 Sanderson Witch Museum. Key props include the Black Flame Candle, Sanderson spell-book, cages, potion cauldron and a manually-operable waterwheel. Even the grave of a key character is conveniently located close by.

What a cast!

The Sanderson Cottage also boasts a massive minifigure ensemble. Winnie, Sarah and Mary Sanderson fly way of course in their (modern) broom, mop and floor-polisher respectively. Their target: Dani Dennison with her bro Max and his girlfriend Allison protecting her.

sanderson cottage cast 1

The reanimated corpse of Billy Butcherson could turn the tide of this horryfing chase. The black cat Binx guides Dani and the gang to survive. He used to be a 17th-Century boy cursed into his current form after failing to rescue his sister Emily. Oh, and those neighborhood toughies Jay and ErnieIce make up the comic relief.

At 2,992 pieces, this Hocus Pocus Sanderson Cottage is a massive set. Hopefully this revamped product idea gets its day in the sun this time.

LEGO Ideas First 2021 Review Stage Results Announced

Way back in May, LEGO Ideas logged in a record 57 product ideas for the First 2021 Review Stage. A mind-blowing ensemble of original and licensed-IP builds vied for a chance to become an official LEGO set. That’s past tense because the actual review period ended this past weekend, after a few brief postponements. To start off with the results, only three of the 57 submissions survived review. In fact one of them is just a technical passer. Without further ado let’s find out which are the lucky product ideas.

jazz quartet

This submission placed runner-up in the “Music to Our Ears” LEGO Ideas contest. If you like Jazz music and don’t mind a static display, Jazz Quartet is an Ideas set to wait for.

the office

Aka the “if at first you don’t succeed” product idea. Jaijai Lewis really wanted a LEGO set based on “The Office.” Twice his work made a Review Stage; twice it ended there. Not anymore; the third time’s the charm. And the Ideas review crew got the hint. The set depicts the US-produced show on NBC however, not the original UK version on BBC.

snow white

This Disney-based product idea is a second-timer for the Ideas Review Stages. Unfortunately the reviewers continue to have issues with the submission and have placed it under further review. In other words, the last say on whether the Snow White build passes will wait until Second 2021 Review results.

All in all, the Review Stage netted some nice results. We’ve got new LEGO Ideas to look forward to in the future. We also wish “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” the best to ace its “further review.”

LEGO Stores Mexico Provides Clearer Image of LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478)

The Magic (in Mini form) is real. For Disney fans and LEGO collectors who feel the Disney Castle set (71040) is too big, they have an alternative. It comes in the form of LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478), recently confirmed. LEGO even had an image of the box packaging in its official documentation. Of course, being found on a PDF, said image was too small and blurry when blown up. Luckily a better image of the set has surfaced, and from Mexico of all sources.

A big shout-out to Brick Fanatics for catching a recent social media post featuring the Mini Disney Castle. LEGO Stores Mexico posted it on their official Instagram page this past September 6. We get to see the fully-built LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478) with its included Mickey Mouse minifigure. Superimposed on the picture to one side is the box. The promo image’s Spanish slogans translate: “Your favorite castle in miniature,” and “Look forward to it soon.” Gee, the photo tells more but the text keeps mum on further info.

What we know now

Thanks to the clearer image from LEGO Stores Mexico, we can at least discern some new details.  The mini castle, like its bigger 71040 original, sits on a black base. Some colors are different since Disney World likes to repaint their central structure once in a while. Finally, the Mickey Mouse minifigure is actually a bit different from the one with set 71040. The older version had yellow highlights on his tuxedo; this one doesn’t.

The 404 number on LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478) has hinted that this would be a gift-with-purchase. LEGO Stores Mexico however commented on its IG post that it will launch at their stores. There’s a possibility that it could be both, depending on whether it was store-bought or gotten from LEGO Shop@Home. Again, we wait until LEGO gives more clarification.
