LEGO Seasonal Year of the Pig (40186) Set Revealed

About three weeks from now, the year will change from 2018 to 2019. And just over a month after January 1, 2019 there will be another year change, this one for the Chinese zodiac calendar. From the Year of the Earth Dog, it’ll be the year of the Earth Pig. We’ve been getting signs of the coming Year of the Pig even in LEGO sets, particularly the pig guy minifigure included in the Chinese regional LEGO set Dragon Dance (80102). But even mainstream LEGO is getting on the act with one 2019 seasonal LEGO set to welcome the piggy-ness; and thanks to Brickset, we now have our first look at this lucky piece of a brick-built set, the LEGO Seasonal Year of the Pig (40186) set.

As expected, LEGO has in readiness one new Chinese zodiac figure (40186) of the coming year’s Animal, a wide-eyed and plump pink piglet carrying the now-familiar yellow LEGO hóngbāo. The big guy’s even standing on a circular platform with growing veggies fit to go into a New Years’ pork feast.

Since this set’s immediate predecessor, the LEGO 2018 seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) was the first made available worldwide (after being an exclusive to the Chinese market), we can expect the Year of the Pig (40186) to follow in terms of availability, likely in LEGO Shop@Home. With this, six out of the twelve Zodiac animals have already been interpreted in LEGO, and with more to probably come in the following years.

New LEGO xtra Polybag Sea Accessories (40341) Arriving in 2019

Back in June we reported on a unique LEGO polybag series that contained plastic elements to serve as extra props and accessories for existing LEGO sets; that’s the reason perhaps for the line name: LEGO xtra. From roadside fittings to food items to even printed play-mats, the xtra polybags served to enhance the brick-building experience. Now, some months after the last LEGO xtra items were released, we get one new polybag of that line coming soon: the LEGO xtra Sea Accessories (40341). And that polybag, in 24 pieces, captures the essence of the sea, from nature’s living creatures to period historical trinkets to modern gear.

This LEGO xtra set contains a pirate’s parrot, a shark and clam figures (the clam can open and shut). There’s also a chest with doodads that could pass for a buccaneer’s booty. And then there’s the swimmer/diver’s equipment of flippers, harpoon, surfboard, paddle, and more. Here’s the official product description for our reference.

LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) Official Images Released

The latest trailer of Captain Marvel has now landed on the web, and you may or may not like how Brie Larson sounded off when she declared that she’ll end the Kree-Skrull war, but I have to say that this does not dampen my enthusiasm in seeing this next MCU instalment when it lands in theaters in March next year. In case you missed it, here’s the 2nd trailer of Disney and Marvel’s Captain Marvel.

Now at around the 1:15 mark, you’ll immediately notice the SHIELD Quinjet that eventually made its way to become a LEGO set, revealed to have been spotted in TRU stores in Canada. The snapped image by an eagle-eyed LEGO Marvel fan shows a sizeable brick-built version of what could be SHIELD’s early version of the famed Quinjet. It also shows Captain Marvel of course and a younger version of Nick Fury together with a Skrull minifigure. This time, thanks to Yahoo News, we now have a better look at this new MCU-inspired LEGO playset in the form of the LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127), including its official product description. Take a look.

Fly with Captain Marvel and Nick Fury to rescue Goose the cat from Talos the Skrull! Zoom over the desert with Fury in his awesome Quinjet. Watch out for the Talos’s stud shooter. Fire 4 missiles at once with each of the jet’s flick-missile shooters and attack with Captain Marvel’s power energy. Then grab Goose, place her in the back of the jet and fly away!

Since the LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) set has already found its way in toy shelves in TRU Canada, then we can expect this to appear anytime soon in the US, hopefully in the first weeks of January. The rumor mill also tells that there might be five LEGO tie-in sets that bear the Avengers logo, though it is unclear if LEGO opted to add another set dedicated to the Kree superhero. From the looks of it, it seems that LEGO intends to bring together all upcoming MCU-related building sets under the banner of the Marvel Avengers. I guess this is great considering how well these upcoming LEGO Marvel sets can be brought together for a massive Marvel universe showdown. We’ll soon find out soon enough.

Disney’s Captain Marvel will land in theaters March 8, 2019.

From the looks of things, LEGO seems to have pretty much laid out its plans for the LEGO BrickHeadz theme next year, and based on these set numbers, it looks like there are still more reveals waiting for these chibi brick creations. What do you think brick fans, are you happy on how these LEGO BrickHeadz sets turned out? Let us know in the comments section below.

The 2018 LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigures (5005256) May Never Come to the US

One of the losses for the American LEGO fandom with the closure of Toys R Us in the US (before its impending return as Geoffrey’s Toy Box) were the special exclusive sets made available during annual events like Bricktober in October. It certainly made acquiring the 2018 edition 4-minifigure sets a chore outside of brief LEGO promotions and other-retailer availability. By these methods, US LEGO fans had some chance of getting either the LEGO Harry Potter Bricktober minifigures (5005254, via Barnes & Noble) or the LEGO Jurassic World (5005255) and LEGO Ninjago (5005257) packs. But there are four Bricktober 2018 sets. So what about the LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigures (5005256)?

Originally promised to be available as promotional items in LEGO Stores as listed on monthly store calendars, the passing of September, October and November without word seems to indicate that at the very least, the LEGO Bricktober Marvel set (5005256) will never reach the US.

Apparently, the LEGO Bricktober Marvel Minifigure set (5005256) was only conventionally available for purchase at Toys R Us Canada, in all of North America. That pretty much writes off any chance to get it from stateside; so only three of the four Bricktober 2018 sets came through. It’s too bad not getting those uncommon Marvel minifigures of War Machine, Wong, unarmored Tony Stark and the Winter Soldier.

If you’re resigned to this news, and still haven’t gotten the LEGO Harry Potter set (5005254) from B&N, they’ve got their promo going all the way to December 26, meaning no worries on that front.

The LEGO Movie 2’s Sweet Mayhem Alternate Figure Revealed

The LEGO Movie 2 sets are about to be released this month (right after Christmas exactly), and now that LEGO has listed the first wave of sets for this theme at shop.LEGO.com, it seems that more info is coming in regarding one of the film’s mysterious characters. The person of Sweet Mayhem is still shrouded in mystery, but thanks to LEGO Shop@Home, the character under the enigmatic helmet is now revealed.

There are three sets in particular that includes Sweet Mayhem’s minidoll figure. And among these three sets, we get to see her featured at the back portion of some these sets as posted on LEGO’s shopping portal. To be exact, only two out of three sets actually shows Sweet Mayhem with her helmet off, revealing a personality that is both sweet and chaotic at the same time. Take a look below.

Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship (70830)

70830 70830 2 Sweet Mayhem 01

She kinds of remind me of Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck it Ralph in terms of personality. From the looks of it, my guess is that she can be both emphatic and mean at the same time. Will she turn out to be the film’s lead baddie as we thought she will based from the trailer? Will soon find out in February once the film lands in US theaters.

The LEGO Movie 2 is slated to hit theaters on February 9, and voiced by the same awesome artists from the first film such as Chris Pratt (Emmet and Rex Dangervest), Elizabeth Banks (Lucy), and Will Arnett (LEGO Batman) among others.

LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) Set Spotted in TRU Canada

Just over three months remain before the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel starring Bree Larson, arrives in cinemas. It doesn’t take a genius to know that LEGO also has its hand in the merchandise pie for this future blockbuster. In fact, some of the film’s tie-in sets have already been spotted. Again, a German LEGO news source – Promo Bricks this time – has brought word that once more, Toys R Us Canada has the distinction of putting a LEGO set supposed to come out in 2019 on their shelves now. It’s named the LEGO Marvel Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127).

lego captain marvel 76127 tru 0001

This set is centered on a vehicle with minifigures added for an awesome action sequence. The vehicle looks very similar to SHIELD quinjet, as it probably looks like in the 1990s when the Captain Marvel film takes place. It’s armed with a pair of 4 flick-missile launchers.

lego-captain-marvel-76127-tru-0002

Its accompanying minifigures include Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, young SHIELD Agent Nick Fury, Carol’s pet cat Goose, and the Skrull infiltrator Talos, who himself is armed with a pistol that has a spring-loaded projectile. Accommodations on the quinjet include a one-pilot cockpit and cargo or passenger space accessible by rear hatch.

For now, the only price known for the Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) is at a Canadian price of $39.94 CAD on that country’s Toys R Us stores. Rough conversions would be US$29.99, £23.65 and €26.62, though there’s no further news on when this tie-in might be available outside Canada. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel premieres March 8, 2019.

Here’s Another 2019 LEGO City Firefighter Set – The Fire Plane (60217)

Over the past week we have covered the release of the first full images of so many LEGO sets that are officially coming out throughout the beginning of the coming year. Among those lines is LEGO City, which boasted an impressive number of upcoming sets, themed around firefighting and police. While the batch updates of 2019 LEGO City sets seem over and done with, individual sets are still being presented, such as this impressive firefighting set featuring the impressive LEGO City Fire Plane (60217). Listed by Toys R Us  Canada, the Fire Plane is a shout out to those extreme machines that are deployed to fight forest fires in national parks.

60217 2 60217 1

The Fire Plane (60217) evokes the “water-bomber” firefighting aircraft, amphibious planes that can land on a body of water, fill up its internal tanks, then fly over a large blaze to dump the water onto the fire (represented by transparent dome pieces).

Also included in the set is an all-terrain buggy with an all new 3-stud shooter. As for what these vehicles will be trying to put out, the set includes two trees of varying sizes (with a resident skunk), dotted with these awesome “fire pieces” found on the other LEGO City firefighting sets.

60217 3 60217 5

The LEGO City Fire Plane (60217) also includes three minifigures: an aircraft pilot, buggy driver, and an on-foot forest fireman. Here’s the set’s product description as mentioned by TRU Canada.
