Huge March 1 LEGO Set Launch Recap

Hey, it’s the first day of the month once again. March 1, 2022. By this point the New Year must no longer feel so new. Before we go off track however, we’ll get right down to what this update is about: first-day LEGO product launches. We certainly enjoyed covering these sets when they first officially came out. And like before, for your easy reference we’re collecting their LEGO.com product listings together here. Our big thanks again to The Brick Fan for any March 1-releasing LEGO product we may have missed. Also linked are our past articles, if we caught them.

Creator Expert Vespa 125 (10298) Now Listed on LEGO.com

This was certainly another LEGO set that was heavily anticipated by collectors since the latter half of 2021. After a number of rumors and leaks, LEGO finally has this Creator Expert set’s product listing up. We now have their official word on the long-teased Vespa 125 (10298) as shared to us by Brick Fanatics. Sure, some retailers may have jumped the gun and released it early, giving us our first look. But it’s nothing like getting the info right from LEGO itself. This brick-built rendition of the famous Italian scooter brand is yet another prize item for 18+ LEGO collectors.

And it’s an absolute beauty, have no doubt. Creator Expert 10298 not only replicates the 1960s Vespa Piaggo. It makes the vehicle look like it’s at home in Italy, with the rear basket, flowers and Italian license plate. The helmet and goggles also make for a nice touch. Vespa aficionados celebrating the brand’s 75th year can’t go wrong with this LEGO collaboration. Like many Creator Expert vehicles, Vespa 125 has plenty of mechanical gimmicks. The handlebar steering works, as do the kickstand. Even the scooter engine sports great detail under the removable cover. If you haven’t lucked out with the “early buyers,” then wait for Vespa 125 (10298) to launch for real in March 1.

  • Designed for Vespa fans – To celebrate Vespa’s 75th anniversary, the LEGO® designers have worked with the lifestyle brand to create a model to appeal to lovers of Italian culture

First Image of LEGO Vespa 125 (10298) Seen

It can be testing to one’s patience sometimes to wait for certain LEGO sets first revealed in rumors. In November last year, we first got wind of a Creator Expert set depicting a Vespa scooter. Apparently, this set (10298) would release this year, accompanied by a GWP numbered 40517. We might have spotted the latter in a LEGO Creator set “group picture” last month. As for the main set, it was announced for reveal this coming Thursday, February 24. Creator Expert Vespa (10298) might launch this March 1. But dealers elsewhere have jumped the gun, and now we have images.

As told by Promobricks, an early purchaser has gotten the LEGO 1960s Vespa 125 set (10298). YouTuber MandRproductions reviewed his early acquisition on his channel, where we got this big nice box photo. It seems not to have the Creator Expert logo and may just be a “for Adults” set, judging from the Age 18+. The Vespa has 1,106 pieces to build the scooter itself, plus a helmet with goggles and a rear box with flowers. Earlier rumors of the set being colored primarily green were quashed by the box image’s blue. This set is freestanding thanks to a kickstand.

With this quick update, we risk repeating ourselves for when LEGO makes its official announcement on February 24. Our next word on the LEGO Vespa (10298) may well be its LEGO.com product listing. There’s a possibility we’ll hear also of its still-rumored tie-in GWP (40517). Just keep watching this space.

LEGO Creator Expert’s 2022 Football Stadium Set: Santiago Bernabeu Stadium (10299) Now Listed

People would remember 2020 as the start of the COVID pandemic, but football-enthusiast LEGO collectors might remember something else. That was the year the LEGO Creator Old Trafford – Manchester United set (10272) came out. Camp Nou – FC Barcelona (10284) followed it in 2021. Whoever thought up releasing major football/soccer stadium replicas on LEGO Creator Expert was a genius. Not only were they gorgeous constructs, but they also offered room for extra stuff such as gifts-with-purchase items. LEGO’s football-stadium set fans must’ve been hyped by October 2021 rumors of the 2022 entry: Real Madrid’s home ground. It’s been confirmed.

The Brick Fan has it that LEGO has officially listed Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabeu Stadium (10299). It’s the third of their massively magnificent football stadium series on Creator Expert. LEGO plans to have the set’s launch coincide with two milestones. The year 2022 sees Real Madrid’s 120th and the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium’s 25th anniversaries, respectively. Like its predecessors, this set is accurate in layout detail and CF branding. Creator Expert 10299 is of the same price as Camp Nou (10284), and will release March 1. Let’s have the LEGO Shop official product listing elaborate further:

Rumor of LEGO Creator Expert Vespa (10298) for 2022, with Tie-In GWP (40517)

LEGO boasts a multitude of product lines and themes featuring vehicles, for their gear-headed collector customers. What set theme to choose depends on how you like your fave rides depicted in LEGO bricks. Do you want small and speedy Speed Champions? Do the mechanical details in LEGO Technic  sets fascinate you? Or do you favor the artistic quality of Creator Expert releases? The third line has wowed us with Porsches and Camper Vans and Pickup Trucks this year alone. What might the Creator Experts teams have in store for their faithful collectors next year? Fancy another two-wheeled LEGO vehicle building project?

Brick Fanatics got this rumor courtesy of brick_clicker on Instagram. Their post details an alleged new set releasing early next year, for the Creator Expert/LEGO for Adults/18+ line. It will be a scooter build depiction of Italy’s iconic Vespa luxury brand, numbered 10298. brick_clicker pegs its launch sometime in early 2022 for the price of $100 (or $99.99 more likely). Also included, apparently, is another Vespa-themed promotional set numbered 40517, releasing at the same time. Brick Fanatics believes it to be a GWP. The setup is similar to the Creator Expert Camp Nou (10284) with the GWP Barcelona Celebration (40485). It’s rumored to repeat with Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

With that info out of the way, we must now close with the disclaimer. This tidbit is a rumor and should remain so until LEGO eventually confirms or debunks it. But that shouldn’t discourage collectors from hoping that it’s real.

LEGO Rumor: Creator Expert Set of Real Madrid’s Stadium for 2022?

Are we going to get a new major-league football/soccer stadium LEGO set released year by year now? At the start of 2020 LEGO brought us a Creator Expert build of Manchester United’s home stadium, the Old Trafford (10272). This year they did it again. Surely you can still recall the sweet Creator Expert rendition of FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou (10284). Once might be a stroke of fortune and twice, a coincidence. But LEGO pulling a hat trick would totally be deliberate. At least that’s how it looks considering a new “stadium set” rumor brought to us by Promobricks.de in Germany.

Here’s the buzz: another LEGO Creator Expert set of a football stadium. The surprise part: it’s the home of another heavyweight Spanish team. After FC Barcelona we’re apparently getting the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu of Real Madrid. Check out these details:

  • Set #: 10299
  • Age: 18+
  • Release: 2022
  • RRP: €329.99/$383.14 (direct conversion)

No number of parts given yet. Actually this does bring up a question. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is under renovation (since 2019, with operations unhindered due to modernized Roman building techniques). Will LEGO depict the stadium as it did before the start of changes? Or will they flash forward to the finished product, due next year (possibly earlier due to COVID closure)? Promobricks also included rumors of a GWP (40541?), just like with Camp Nou (10284).

You know the disclaimer. The above info is just rumor at present. Maintain your salt diet until LEGO gives word.

Rumor of LEGO Creator Expert Modular 15th Anniversary Set: Hotel & Art Gallery (10297)

In 2007 LEGO released a set, the Café Corner (10182).  This was the beginning of a series of LEGO building sets that were modular in function. Since then some 16 sets have come from the “Modular Buildings Collection.” They could be put together to form a city street’s worth of shops and establishments. We got the latest of these, Police Station (10278), way back in January, too. With its start in 2007, it means the Modular Buildings Collection turns 15 years old in 2022. Surely there’s no better way to celebrate that milestone than by a new modular set release.

That, coincidentally, is the subject of this new rumor from German LEGO news source Promobricks.de. Said set, numbered 10297, will have a commonality with the originating product, the Café Corner (10182). That set comprised the aforementioned corner café paired with a hotel. 10297 will also feature a hotel building, only this time it’s paired with an art gallery. In addition, the shape of the brick-built structure tapers off instead of having four 90-degree corners like its predecessors. A comparison can be made to New York City’s Flatiron building, which houses a LEGO Store. The Flatiron also had an earlier LEGO Architecture set adaptation, now retired.

Some specs about this set according to Promobricks are the presence of street arches, nougat-colored pieces, and 6 minifigures. This LEGO Hotel and Art Gallery (10297) will release January 1, 2022 alongside a 15th anniversary GWP (number 40532). Or at least the rumor says so; and that’s what we must treat this info for now.

Creator Expert Pickup Truck (10290) Designer Video Now Out

The LEGO Creator Expert Pickup Truck (10290) had one of the earliest set reveals recently. We first learned about it in July, well before it officially released this past October 1. It being a rather key LEGO set release, it was just a matter of time before we got the designer video. And so we have, this past Wednesday, on the 13th. The arrival of this video felt comparatively late. LEGO Queer Eye – Fab 5 Loft (10291) got its designer video October 5; note the numbering. But that may be just semantics at this point.

As seen above, LEGO designer Pierre Normandin takes us through the paces of this set’s features. AFOLs who have been around since the 1950s would likely find the descriptions of this vehicle as nostalgic. The time period also lends to the Easter egg that is the LEGO logo on the tailgate. It uses the logo font from that particular decade. The Creator Expert Pickup Truck (10290) also boasts some of the mechanical interactivity one might expect from a Technic set. Having a steering wheel that can turn the front tires and an adjustable rear-view mirror makes the set feel “real.” This set is a prime candidate for immediate purchase by LEGO VIPs this week, with Double Points still in effect.

NBC’s “Tonight Show” and “SNL” Mention LEGO Creator Expert Titanic (10294) (and its Price)

The moment LEGO officially announced its existence what came next on TV media could be considered inevitable. The LEGO Creator Titanic (10294), with 9,090 pieces, is already a 1:200 scale model of the massive doomed ocean liner. But that scale conversion still leaves it as one of the biggest LEGO sets ever made. It needs that size to visibly show its amenities and mechanical features, all lovingly recreated in brick form. The price tag also caught a lot of attention. Perhaps that factor serves as the primary contributor of the ribbing LEGO Titanic’s been getting.

As told by Brick Fanatics, The LEGO Creator Expert Titanic (10294) has been the subject of TV media scrutiny. Last weekend the set got mentions in two NBC programs: “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Saturday Night Live”. In the former, host Jimmy Fallon pointed out the $600+ price tag and claimed Titanic was part of LEGO’s “Horrific Disaster” collection. He also name-dropped the Hindenburg and Fyre Festival as part of that “theme.” The latter isn’t even a disaster in the “crashed/sunk passenger vehicle” sense.

The same deal went on at “SNL”. During the Weekend Update, hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che also mentioned the LEGO set 10294 (and fired shots at the pricing). One mean gag the show made about the Creator Expert Titanic was the assertion that the pieces used to assemble it are “frozen Irish minifigures.” The actual passenger liner was built in Belfast, Northern Ireland (1909-11), and some of its doomed passengers had been Irish too.

Hopefully the $629.99 asking price of the LEGO Creator Expert Titanic (10294) doesn’t scare off all collectors. It really is an impressively put-together model. Pre-orders will begin on November 1, though LEGO has yet to confirm its official release date.

End-2021 “Retiring Soon” Sets Revealed on LEGO Shop@Home US

The end of any given year marks the traditional date of retirement for LEGO sets. As you know, the old products must make way for new releases after all. Some LEGO product retirements vary from market to market too, so there’s that to consider. Last mid-September Shop@Home UK began listing up their retiring products. The Brick Fan now has the heads-up on LEGO sets also marked for retirement on Shop@Home US. There are some similarities to the earlier UK list, but there are others also. We’re doing a mini-list of the 2021 retiring sets for Shop@Home US. If they got featured here on The Brick Show, we’ll add the articles.
