LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed Mobile Game Coming This Fall

LEGO seems to be investing a lot in mobile games recently. Following the announcement and promotions surrounding the LEGO Tower mobile game which will launch this summer, LEGO has officially announced another upcoming mobile game that will cater to LEGO fans of all ages. Developed in partnership with Gameloft, LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed features a team-battle, role-playing game where the player controls any of LEGO’s iconic and more recent minifigure characters in an expansive universe of LEGO’s original creations and 40 years of minifig history. The LEGO Group and Gameloft promise to deliver a one of a kind gaming experience where players get to be immersed in a vast world of LEGO characters and environments representing past and present favorites.

Check out the teaser trailer for the LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed as introduced by the legendary minifigure Captain Redbeard from 1989’s LEGO Pirates Forbidden Island (6270) set. Read on for the full press release courtesy of Gamespress.

Gameloft and the LEGO Group Unveil “LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed”

LEGO minifigure history at your fingertips: The first bricks of the upcoming LEGO mobile game are out of the box

Paris, May 23rd, 2019 – Gameloft, one of the world’s leading publishers of mobile games, and the LEGO Group today revealed the title of their upcoming game: LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed. This Team-Battle RPG, the first ever LEGO game of this genre, will bring to life 40 years of LEGO minifigure history and universes in a fun and epic way.

LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is set in a whole new LEGO world where players will collect classic and modern LEGO minifigures and sets, form a party and engage in epic and fun team battles and adventures. The game will feature iconic, fan favorite universes from yesterday and today, recreated with incredible detail to please players of all ages, from the passionate collectors to those who want to bring back childhood memories.

A first glimpse of how the signature humor of the LEGO brand has been built into the game can be found in the teaser trailer, also revealed today. The beloved Captain Redbeard from Set 6270 (1989) emerges from his dusty box in the attic and sets sail for adventure after all these years… he may not be ready yet! Indeed, LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is set to be released this Fall, but until then Gameloft Toronto will be adding content and completing features.

The studio has been working closely with the LEGO Group for several years, including visits to the LEGO Vault in Billund, Denmark where all the sets and minifigures ever created are archived. The team has been studying vintage instruction manuals and focusing all its skills to perfectly recreate every tiny detail that makes the LEGO experience so enjoyable and memorable. LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed will be faithful to the fun and creativity that make the LEGO brand one of the most beloved brands on Earth.

“LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is built to bring the enjoyment and fun that you once had, or still have, with LEGO toys,” stated Baudouin Corman, Chief Operating Officer at Gameloft. “We are excited to see these authentic and original LEGO characters from all eras come to life. We have been putting all our efforts, art and craft into this game as we want to delight all LEGO fans, whether their minifigures are tucked away in the attic or proudly shown in the living room.”

Sean McEvoy, Vice President of LEGO Games at the LEGO Group said: “LEGO Games have reached millions of LEGO fans of all ages for over 20 years, extending and amplifying the LEGO play universe. Enabling our fans to play epic battles with minifigures from our history is a great play promise we are delighted to offer. Gameloft has done fabulous work, maintaining every character’s unique personality and reflecting all the fun, creativity and humor of the LEGO brand in a mobile game.”

LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is set to be released in Fall 2019 and will be regularly showcased to fans until then, beginning at Brickworld Chicago on June, 15th and 16th. Be sure to visit http://www.LEGOLEGACY.com to get the latest news on the game.

Check Out These Winners for the LEGO Ideas Design A Virtual Floor Contest for the LEGO Tower Mobile Game

As part of promoting LEGO’s new mobile game, LEGO Tower, the LEGO Ideas Team has launched the LEGO Ideas Design a Virtual Floor for the LEGO Tower Game last March, which eventually turned out to be one of the contest platform’s most popular competitions as of to date. With over 560 entries, the judges weighed in their bets and have now chosen the final six winners that will get to take home a LEGO Creator Expert Corner Garage (10264) and LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313), plus a total LEGO Shop@Home shopping spree worth $200 USD.

These final six winners will also get the bragging rights of having their original creations converted digitally and to be integrated as an actual floor in the LEGO Tower game. Each MOC entry is specifically measured at 32 studs wide, 12 studs deep and 9 bricks tall. It should also have a door wide and tall enough to accommodate a minifigure. Each floor build must only comprise of the room itself without any minifigs included. For the rest, its all up to the builder’s imagination.

Check out these awesome LEGO Ideas Design a Virtual Floor winning entries, and be sure to spot them once LEGO’s most recent mobile app game launches this summer.

Are We To See More LEGO BrickHeadz Sets in 2020?

Fans of the 3-inch tall, brick-collectibles may soon have more reasons to be glad in 2020. The LEGO BrickHeadz theme had its share of highs and lows since it was introduced in 2016. At that time, the majority of LEGO fans were quite divided on how they should appreciate the blocky, bobblehead-like replicas of their favorite LEGO characters – whether they were original LEGO characters or licensed ones. It also came to the extent where this theme was rumored to be ending in 2019 due to reported underwhelming sales. However, the tide seems to have turned when in December last year, LEGO surprisingly announced 8 new BrickHeadz to watch out for in 2019.

This most recent LEGO BrickHeadz overview guide is courtesy of the LEGO BrickHeadz Community Facebook page.

Now that the majority of the 2019 LEGO BrickHeadz were already revealed, and with Lady Liberty (40367) as the most recent offering, fans are now pondering the nagging question once again: are we really seeing the end of this unique LEGO theme? Well actually, the answer may be quite the opposite.

The LEGO BrickHeadz Lady Liberty (40367) is set to be released on June 1, 2019.

In a most recent interview by Zusammengebaut’s Andres Lehman together with LEGO BrickHeadz creator and designer Marcos Bessa, the latter has confirmed that there are still plenty of these blocky collectibles being worked in the pipeline just in time for their debut in 2020.

Andres was fortunate enough to meet Marcos at the 2019 LEGO Fan Media Days in Billund to discuss the future of this LEGO theme. Marcos eventually revealed that fans should clearly expect more LEGO BrickHeadz sets by next year and he was careful enough not to spill the beans on what they’ll be. From the looks of things, LEGO seems to be moving forward with original designs while continuing its seasonal offerings. In fact, BrickHeadz started 2019 with a wave of original creations such as the Birthday Clown (40348), the Dragon Dance Guy (40354) and a handful of seasonal sets. Furthermore, according to Marcos, more seasonal sets will be introduced in the second half of this year. We can also expect that LEGO will continue to offer carefully selected licensed themes that will hopefully appeal to a diverse range of LEGO fans. The popularity of these sets was likened by Marcos to those of the LEGO collectible minifigures and hopes to see that the LEGO BrickHeadz line will win more fans and LEGO enthusiasts.

So what do you think about this brick fans? Are you excited to see more BrickHeadz sets? What licensed character are you hoping to have the LEGO brick treatment? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

LEGO City Space Satellite (30365) Polybag Spotted

Hot on the heels of LEGO’s latest tease about the next LEGO Creator Expert outer space set, it looks like the latest rehashed LEGO Space theme will be having a polybag to complement its NASA-inspired sets. Spotted by a LEGO fan in Austria, and shared over Reddit, we now have a look at the LEGO City Space Satellite (30365) polybag, as you can see below.

Found this set in Austria for 2€(supposed to release in August) from lego

As shared by Reddit user generic9yo, this particular polybag takes its cue from the famous NASA space station spacewalkers. The obvious takeaway from this polybag is the astronaut minifigure donned with a golden helmet. It’s a great way to stack up on those astronaut minifigs for that latest space mission MOC that you are working on. As of the moment, this minifigure is only made available in three out of seven 2019 LEGO City Space sets, namely together with Satellite Service Mission (60224), Mars Research Shuttle (60226), and Lunar Space Station (60227). It was in 2015 when we last saw this astronaut minifigure, so its a great move from LEGO to re-introduce this little fella.

Similar to previous polybags, the LEGO City Space  Satellite (30365) polybag will most likely be a LEGO promotional that goes with the release of the LEGO City Space sets once they’re made available this summer at LEGO stores and at shop.LEGO.com. Nevertheless, we’ll keep you posted once we hear some words about their availability which we expect to be sometime next month.  Thanks to the Brick Fan for the tip, and to Brickset for the featured image.

LEGO Teases The New LEGO Creator Expert NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander Set

LEGO is definitely looking forward to revive the LEGO Space theme in one form or the other. After the successful launch of the new LEGO City Space sets, LEGO has now teased via social media another large set that caters to LEGO and NASA enthuasiasts. Now if you’re actively involved among LEGO fan forums and sites, chances are, you have an encountered already what this mystery set is. In fact, LEGO has given out some images of this set to several European retailers for marketing purposes. Though taken down already, eagle-eyed LEGO fans were quick to capture a snapshot of the new LEGO Creator Expert NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander in all its golden glory.

However, LEGO is still holding on to its horses pending a full reveal of this next Creator Expert set. Check out this 5-second video clip that highlights the first giant leap for LEGO minifigs in space.

I love how the small minifig print appears on the surface of the moon, imitating mankind’s first moon landing. The LEGO Creator Expert NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander is expected to be available sometime next month, with an official reveal to happen any time next week. As a Creator Expert set, this new real world set is expected to consist of more than a thousand pieces and will retail for almost a hundred US dollars. The fact that this new LEGO set is set to be released in June celebrating the 50th year anniversary of NASA’s moon landing, makes this set more appealling to fans.

It is also said that this set will be accompanied with a special promotional item in the form of a commemorative patch, similar  to what LEGO did when when it released a limited edition promotional keychain that accompanied the LEGO Creator Expert Ford Mustang (10265).

LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons Will be Our Next Official LEGO Ideas Set

After the thrilling announcement of the LEGO Ideas 10 Years Anniversary Fan Vote where we see our little, blue brick alien making a comeback as a possible LEGO Ideas set, host Ali Plumb and LEGO Ideas Associate Engagament Manager Hasan Jensen, have just announced the next official LEGO Ideas set that will hit store shelves this year. If you’re a dino fan and would love to have your very own brick-built dino museum, then be sure to watch out for Jonathan Brunn’s (aka Mukkinn) LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons.

The Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons topped the rest of the five finalists in the LEGO Ideas Third 2018 Review Stage, besting entries such as the Chemical Plant, Food Stand Diners, Queen Victoria Cruise Ship, and the Playable LEGO Piano.  Though there is no confirmed pricing and piece count as  of the moment, this upcoming LEGO Ideas set is slated to be launched this year so we can bet that we’ll hear some words from the LEGO Ideas Design Team very soon.

LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons

Same as in previous reviews, we have a wildcard of a set so to speak in the form of Donny Chen’s (aka SleepyCow) spot-on, brick-built replica of a Playable LEGO Piano. This intricate model of a Grand Piano is still possible to become an official LEGO set, so let’s cross our fingers and see if it will eventually receive the thumbs up from the review board.

So what do you think of this choice for a new LEGO Ideas set? Do you think its a good call? Personally, I was hoping that the Food Stand Diners will make it to the cut since it would look great besides the LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261) or together with the new People Pack – Fun Fair (60234) minifigure pack for that awesome fairground themed park. Anyways, still our heartfelt congratulations to Jonathan Brunn and for his excellent LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils Skeletons!

Here’s Another Chance to See That LEGO Ideas Stitch Happen!

This is a great way to start the morning (coming from this side of my world, that is)! Just saw this on my Twitter feed where LEGO Ideas just recently opened another round of voting for previously chosen LEGO Ideas projects as part of their LEGO Ideas 10 Years Anniversary – Fan Vote. Since its debut in October 2016, Tyler’s LEGO Ideas Stitch product idea has caught my attention being a fan of Disney’s little blue alien. After actively campaigning for Lendy Tayag’s LEGO Ideas Voltron, I wouldn’t have second thoughts on seeing an official LEGO Ideas Stitch standing beside my prized brick robot. However, it seems that the LEGO Ideas may have shot down my brick dream when the design team opted for the The Flintstones and The Treehouse as the winning sets for the Second 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.  Imagine the agony of not seeing Stitch in all of his LEGO glory! Well truth be told, I somehow felt this coming not because that I don’t believe will turn out to be a great LEGO Ideas set, but because it might be potentially at odds with the contest platform’s product idea guidelines.

I guess my fears have been finally slayed when this time around, we can have another chance of seeing LEGO Ideas Stitch happen! Check out what the LEGO Ideas Review Team has to say.

LEGO Ideas Stitch

Why the Special Review?

This all started as we reminisced on these past years, the product ideas that had been turned into official sets and all those that hadn’t. It led to the realization that we definitely wanted to celebrate those past product ideas that hadn’t made it, for one reason or another, even more and thereby to give them a second chance. All these thoughts kickstarted the special anniversary review, where we had to determine which product ideas still had the potential to become an official set based on our usual review criteria that encompasses aspects such as brand fit, build quality, feasibility, licensing possibilities, expected demand, current and future LEGO products and much more.

The internal review of these previous product idea entries resulted in 4 finalists: we have the International Space Station by XCLD, SEGA Classic Arcade Machines by SpacySmoke (which is also one of my favs), Small YELLOW by LEGO Certified Professional Nathan Sawaya, and (drum roll please) LEGO Ideas Stitch by our very own Tyler Clites (aka legohaulic).

LEGO Ideas Stitch

LEGO fans have until June 4 to vote which among these four can become an official LEGO Ideas set. The product idea that gets the most votes (cast through secret balloting) during the fan voting stage will qualify for the product development phase until we see it as an official LEGO product. What is great about this second chance is the fact that it is now entirely on the hands of the LEGO fan community to see which among these four entries will land on LEGO Store shelves.

If you desperately need to see that LEGO Ideas Stitch happen as much as I am, then let’s do Tyler a favor and head over to the LEGO Ideas page and cast your vote. If you do not have a LEGO Ideas account, then creating one is as easy as doing the Thanos Snap. Just have a valid email address ready, and then follow the on-screen instructions at the LEGO Ideas website, and please help us spread the word for LEGO Ideas Stitch by following us on Facebook and Twitter. Ohana!

LEGO-Volvo Ideas Contests Reveals Winning Construction Vehicle Design: the Rottweiler

LEGO collaborations with vehicle manufacturers are awesome. We’ve got some Technic sets and the Speed Champions line to prove that. You think the LEGO-Bugatti team-up that led to the Technic Chiron (and its life-sized version) was sweet? Volvo, specifically its Construction Equipment division, has done great things with LEGO too.

The encapsulation of this collaboration is the Technic ZEUX Concept Wheel Loader (42081). LEGO and Volvo CE then held a contest on LEGO Ideas last year. Contestants were asked to build their vision for the future of heavy equipment vehicles, using Technic. The winner would see their creation being considered for possible testing by Volvo.

Architect Vida Andras, age 27 from Romania, presented the winning design. It’s a multi-purpose construction vehicle with short quadruped legs ending in tracked feet. The manipulator arm has a 3D-printer, allowing it to literally make the materials needed for construction. Andras calls it the Rottweiler.

screen-shot-2019-05-14-at-14-28-20.png

LEGO and Volvo seem to like it well enough, out of a pool of 122 entries for the Ideas contest. One factor perhaps is that the Rottweiler’s design concept was similar to that of the LEGO-Volvo ZEUX: self-driving capability. If that weren’t a futuristic vehicle element as the contest rules asked for, then what is?

For his efforts, Vida Andras won a LEGO Technic ZEUX (42081) plus several more Technic sets depicting heavy equipment vehicles. His build, along with nine other Ideas submissions, were exhibited at the London Transport Museum. Display lasted until May 16.

1980s Shopping Channel-Style Commercial for LEGO Stranger Things – The Upside Down (75810) is a Riot

In a way, the unveiling of a LEGO Stranger Things tie-in is like the toy-brand equivalent of Disney-Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Before, during, and after its product launch this week the hype’s still intense for The Upside Down (75810). It helps that LEGO’s milking the 1980s aesthetic of the Netflix series for some great promotional material.

One of the LEGO teasers was an eighties-style LEGO TV advertisement. It was followed up on launch day by a designer video made up like a talk show. Both featured era-appropriate graininess and bits of static too. The convention is maintained in this latest commercial.

The ad shows the LEGO Stranger Things – The Upside Down (75810) set. This time it looks like an item being offered in a TV shopping channel. While a smarmy commentator talks about the set’s features, a presenter points them out on the rotating display. Static on-screen text adds atmospheric flavor.

But this is a set based on “Stranger Things,” a show that really masters scary moments. The moment the presenter flips set 75810 to demonstrate the “Upside Down” side, the ad cuts out. For a few seconds, the display is left in the dark, with the show’s mood soundtrack playing.

It disappears as quickly as it comes, though. The presenter carries on with the display gestures while the voiceover is briefly confused. Once the Upside Down (75810) segment is complete, the “shopping channel” tries to present the next item only to go into expected static.

You’d think LEGO’s just become the primary toy merchandise manufacturer for Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” True, they said the set’s a one-off tie-in, but you’ve got to wonder with all of LEGO’s effort in promoting it. LEGO Stranger Things – The Upside Down (75810) releases June 1.
