New LEGO Dots Theme Coming This March

Since 2018, there have been some rumors circling around the LEGO community that LEGO is set to launch a new theme surrounding a brick-built jewelry and accessory lines catering to young girls. Initially thought to be labeled as LEGO iCreate having a 2019 release date, we now have confirmation that this newest girl accessory line is now named LEGO Dots, expected to arrive in LEGO Stores in March of this year.

This confirmation came in the way of the Italian LEGO Catalog for this first half of the year. Similar to LEGO’s announcement of the arrival of five (5) LEGO Minion sets, there’s nothing much to see about this particular page for LEGO Dots. The way the images are laid out suggests that these brick accessories are something that LEGO fangirls will be surely excited about.

LEGO Dots

Perhaps the closest that we can imagine how LEGO Dots will look like is if we go compare it to what LEGO did with its Clikits theme way back in 2003 when it began as a sort of a collection LEGO stationery sets.  Since then until 2006, the theme itself saw as much as 80 and more sets that encouraged younger LEGO fans to mix and match their accessories.

7546 1
LEGO Clikits Tropical Breeze Jewels ‘n’ More (7546) from 2006.

I really don’t know exactly the reasons why LEGO decided to pull the plug on LEGO Clikits after a good 4-year run and 80+ sets released under the said theme. Perhaps for some good reason, LEGO saw it fit to revive a similar theme catering to a new generation of LEGO fans receptive enough for its return. Whatever is the case, it is interesting to see how LEGO will somehow consolidate all of its accessories and LEGO jewelry line under one theme. As a LEGO fan builder, I’m also interested to see if LEGO will introduce new parts that may also have practical value in terms of building, or will it largely be the same as with Clikits which were almost entirely only for aesthetic purposes. We just have to wait and see.

Thanks to Brickset for the heads up.

Add the LEGO Newsstand to Your Sprawling LEGO Town or City!

This week, LEGO has launched its first build-and- take in-store event of the year that most LEGO fans will love to have. The LEGO Newsstand is actually a nice mini build that complements this year’s modular LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop(10270) which was released at the turn of the year. And in case you missed out on this opportunity of grabbing the LEGO Newsstand, you’ll be happy to know that Instagram user theflannelbrick has uploaded and shared its building instructions so let’s take a look.

Coming in at 155 pieces, the LEGO Newsstand features plenty of small parts that can be a bit challenging for newbie LEGO builders. Nevertheless, the final build, notwithstanding the instability of the shelf, is pretty much impressive in itself. As a free set, I really appreciate what LEGO did here: throwing in a minifigure with accessories, two printed newspaper tile, and several hard to find parts like those trans clear blue flag pieces used for the roof. If LEGO opted to make this as a retail set, then it will certainly hit the $10 or more price point, giving us a vignette kind of set similar to what LEGO offers with its seasonal sets. Remember smaller seasonal sets like 2015’s Painting Easter Eggs (40121) and Thanksgiving Feast (40123) and you’ll get the idea.

LEGO Newsstand

As I said, I’m not just quite sure if the rest of the parts are readily available but you can still try to search for them over at Bricklink.

The LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) is currently available at LEGO Shop@Home retailing for $179.99. It features a 3-story modular build that comes with a display window, reading nook, an open-out design, and five (5) minifigs. If you’re still planning to get this set and wish to know more, just click on the link above.

Special thanks to Promobricks for the tip.

Five LEGO Minions Sets Expected To Arrive This Spring 2020

Other than the LEGO Trolls World Tour sets now currently available at LEGO Shop@Home, LEGO is now setting the stage for the arrival of its next Universal tie-in merchandise in the form of the LEGO Minions The Rise of Gru sets. Since LEGO’s official announcement back in June of last year, the arrival of these little yellow scene-stealers in LEGO brick or minifig format has been met with mixed reactions. Unlike LEGO Trolls where we get a substantial number of sets – eight in total – it seems that the LEGO Minions theme will have a lesser number of building sets under its belt. At least that’s what the latest 2020 LEGO Catalog seems to suggest.

Shared by Candidbricks over on Facebook, this particular copy is quite different from the digital version that LEGO released last week. Though this particular page exists from the LEGO 2020 Catalog for the first half of the year (1HF), the text obviously reads differently.

LEGO Minions

If this version of the LEGO Catalog turns out to be true, then we can expect at the most five (5) LEGO Minion sets, all slated to be released in May. In fact, Brickset has already listed certain set numbers for these sets, ranging from set 75546 to 75551.  Additionally, Stonewars also reports that the first two sets in the LEGO Minions theme will have the 4+ branding, while the last one will be a sizeable, 3-in-1 build of Kevin, Bob, and Stuart. Perhaps this last set will be similar to the builds offered by LEGO in its newer buildable Minecraft sets. Here’s what we know so far about these sets as of press time.

  • LEGO Minions 4+ (75546) – 87 pieces | 19.99 Euro
  • LEGO Minions 4+ (75547) – 199 pieces | 29.99 Euro
  • LEGO Minions (75549) – 136 pieces | 19.99 Euro
  • LEGO Minions (75550) – 310 pieces | 39.99 Euro
  • LEGO Minions (75551) – 876 pieces | 49.99 Euro

Again, it will be better to treat the above info as rumors until such time we hear LEGO’s official word on it. It’s understandable that details about these sets are still under wraps considering that we are still several months away from the film’s theatrical release. Stay tuned for more updates!

Check Out These Cool LEGO Taiwan Chinese New Year Promotions

The LEGO Certified Store (LCS) in Taiwan is currently running a promotion to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year. Though these are obviously regional exclusives not found in any other LEGO brand store, these are pretty impressive themselves and worth having in your LEGO shopping cart. Let’s take a look at these cool LEGO Taiwan Chinese New Year promotions.

Frankly, we’ve seen a couple of LCS-related promos in the Asia Pacific Region that are impressive in themselves, reflecting the unique culture and traditions of the country. If you recall, there are last year’s Toys R Us Bricktober promos found in TRU stores in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan. We also saw LCS Taiwan’s LEGO 60th Commemorative Pen Holder promo which is both a nice desktop and display set rolled into one. And now to mark the celebration of this year’s Chinese New Year on January 25th, LEGO fans in Taiwan have the following collectible sets to look forward to, guaranteed for every single-receipt qualifying purchases.

LEGO Taiwan Chinese New Year

LEGO fans who will make qualifying purchases from January 1 to 12, will be entitled to a free buildable LEGO Traditional Drum as seen below. Similarly, those who will opt to make their next LEGO purchase from January 13 to 22 will also get an exclusive LEGO Red Candy Box; while those who will make qualifying purchases from January 1st until the 22nd will also get the LEGO Flower Vase. The way the promos are scheduled suggests that purchases made on any single date during these promo periods will allow you to claim at the most, two LEGO freebies.

Currently, the LEGO Traditional Drum promotional is now live in LCS Taiwan and if you want to give it a try and build yourself one, Brickfinder was kind enough to share the building instructions for this set. Hopefully, we can also have similar building instructions for two remaining promotional sets. I’m particularly looking forward to that LEGO Flower Vase once it becomes available.

Thanks also to The Brick Fan for the tip.

Third 2019 LEGO Ideas Product Qualifiers Announced

It has been a while since I last visited the LEGO Ideas community, not because I lacked the interest (I’ve always been a fan of original LEGO creations coming from the community), but with so many things going on in this side of LEGO fandom its kind of hard to keep pace at times. So when the announcement finally came in rounding up the final list of LEGO fan submissions that got that overwhelming 10K support during the Third 2019 LEGO Ideas Qualifying Period, I just need to put the spotlight on these cool brick creations.

Let’s take a quick look at these 12 qualifiers and what we can expect from them.

The LEGO Ideas Review Team will surely have a bit of a challenge in determining which among these original creations will eventually end up on store shelves as the next official LEGO Ideas set. They’re all excellent in themselves and we even have our own favorites such as the Clockwork Aquarium and its fun play features. We just have to wait and see until the Review Stage is concluded sometime during the third quarter of the year.

Third 2019 LEGO Ideas

We’re also waiting for the LEGO Ideas Review Team to wrap things up with the Second 2019 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, and hopefully, we can get a final word from them during the next few days in which among the ten sets from this batch will emerge as the next LEGO Ideas set.

More LEGO BrickHeadz Licensed Themes Coming in 2020

After revealing its initial offering of LEGO BrickHeadz sets for 2020, it seems that more is expected for this year featuring some of the most iconic characters that we grew up and love. Our friend Lukas from Stone Wars has shared some bit of LEGO insider info that points to the highly probable release of more LEGO BrickHeadz licensed themes for 2020.

Though these sources may be treated as rumors until they are confirmed by LEGO, a similar report and thumbnail images shared by Promobricks corroborates the release of these sets. And from the looks of it, we will be getting two additional BrickHeadz inspired by Disney classic characters that we are very much familiar with.

UPDATE: The Brickfinder was able to get his hands on several official images of these new BrickHeadz so I opted to update the images on this post as well.

LEGO BrickHeadz Donald Duck (40377)

LEGO BrickHeadz Goofy and Pluto (40378)

214 pieces | $14.99

LEGO BrickHeadz Licensed Themes 40378 2

Though we really can’t see the finer details of these sets based on these thumbnails, these pictures are enough to give us a general impression of what to expect from these new Disney-inspired sets.  As a fan of classic Disney animation, I’m certain that these blocky versions of Donald, Goofy and Pluto will look great standing beside a pair of LEGO BrickHeadz Mickey (41624) and Minnie Mouse (41625) sets.  Aside from this trio, we might also get additional LEGO BrickHeadz licensed themes as we go through the year. Here is a listing of both confirmed or released 2020 BrickHeadz sets, together with those that we can expect later on.

  • LEGO BrickHeadz Valentine’s Bear (40379) – 150 pieces | $9.99 USD
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Wedding Bride (40383) – 306 pieces | $12.99 USD
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Wedding Groom (40384) – 255 pieces | $12.99 USD
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Lucky Cat (40436) – 134 pieces | $9.99 USD
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Sheep (40380) – ??? | $9.99 USD
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Donald Duck (40377) – 90 pieces | $9.99 USD
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Goofy and Pluto (40378) – 214 pieces | $14.99 USD
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Rubeus Hagrid And Buckbeak the Hippogriff (40412) – ??? | ???
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Falcon and Black Widow (40418) – ??? | ???
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Hogwarts Students (40419) – ??? | ???
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Minions (40420) – ??? | ???
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Minions (40421) – ??? | ???
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Frankenstein (40422) – ??? | ???
  • LEGO BrickHeadz Nutcracker (40425) – ??? | ???

It’s quite obvious that we’re still missing a LEGO BrickHeadz Star Wars candidate from this list, so I’m still crossing my fingers if stories of a LEGO BrickHeadz Jabba the Hut and Salacious Crumb will still happen this year. And if the above listing ends up to be true, then it only reaffirms the fact that this collectible theme still has it going with LEGO fans.

Are you excited about these rumored, upcoming sets? Do you think they will most likely happen? Comment down below. Special thanks to Ben for the heads up.

LEGOLAND Fire Academy (40393) Exclusively Available at LEGOLAND Parks and Discovery Centers

If you have plans of visiting any of LEGOLAND’s nineteen (19) Parks and Discovery Centers, then be sure to check with their own LEGO Store for this year’s first park exclusive building set. It has been customary for LEGOLAND to offer a couple of limited-edition sets that sees the park’s main attractions rendered in brick form. And for the start of this year, they are offering the LEGOLAND Fire Academy (40393).

LEGOLAND Fire Academy (40393)

Since 2016, we’ve seen a stream of pretty nice exclusives offered by LEGOLAND. We have the LEGOLAND Train (40166); the LEGOLAND Castle (40306) from 2018; and two set offerings from last year, the LEGOLAND Driving School (40347) and self-titled LEGOLAND (40346).

Like those before it, the LEGOLAND Fire Academy (40393) is based on the park’s Fire Academy attraction where visitors can ride a fire truck and shoot down some make-believe “fire hazards” over windows and buildings. To bring home a piece of this park attraction, then you may want to head over at the LEGO Store inside the park. The LEGOLAND Fire Academy (40393) comes in at 221 pieces with 3 minifigs, and you can purchase this set for $17.99.

It’s a pretty straightforward consisting of a fire truck, a two-story building facade, a stud shooter-equipped water cannon, and a mini-map. LEGO Customer Service has uploaded this set’s building instructions if you want to give it a try recreating this set using your own LEGO pieces. I guess the only limiting part will be the newer Dark Stone Grey Botton Wagon Assembly which is also available in the LEGO City Barbecue Burn Out (60212). Of course, you can opt for other similar color variants that are more readily available. Check out this parts list and see if you can complete all the required pieces.

Check Out the International Version of the 2020 LEGO Catalog (January-May)

If you haven’t received your physical copy of the 2020 LEGO Catalog (January-May), then you might be glad to know that it is now available for download right here. I still yet to receive a physical copy of the catalog from my local LEGO store so it will be nice to leaf through this digital copy for the meantime. Here’s a quick look at what to expect inside.

2020 LEGO Catalog 2020 LEGO Catalog

Much of its contents are, should I say, common knowledge already to most of us especially that this week marks the release of more than a hundred new-for-2020 LEGO sets over at LEGO Shop@Home. Same as before, the 2020 LEGO Catalog for the first half of the year features a mix of both previously offered and upcoming sets. Noteworthy are those from the LEGO Creator series such as the Monster Burger Truck (31104) and the Townhouse Toy Store (31105). The Trolls are also prominently featured in the 2020 LEGO Catalog with their LEGO Trolls World Tour sets such as Volcano Rock City Concert (41254) and Pop Village Celebration (41255) taking the center stage. Other popular, non-licensed themes such as LEGO City and Hidden Side also have their share of new-for-January sets that are included in the catalog. On top of my must-have lists are the Ice Cream Truck (60253), Tuning Workshop (60258)Haunted Fairground (70432), and Lighthouse of Darkness (70431) just to name a few.

Love them or hate them, another point of interest for some is LEGO’s official announcement of the arrival of the LEGO Minions Rise of Gru tie-in sets. There is no specific release date mentioned since the initial info went out from June of last year, but LEGO confirms that these sets will be on store shelves beginning this summer.

2020 LEGO Catalog

With 2020 coinciding with the release of LEGO CMF Series 20, LEGO has also confirmed that its next wave of LEGO Collectible Minifigures will come out this May. Though this is not entirely new since some LEGO fan sites have pointed this out when they got an early copy of their catalog last December, seeing that LEGO consistently confirms the release of its next CMF in May surely builds up the hype.

Needless to say, there are a lot of things to look out for this 2019 and I’m excited to see what LEGO has in store for us in the next few months. Be sure to check with LEGO Shop@Home for all the latest sets that are available now. Comment down below your first-for-2020 LEGO set purchase this January. Which one tops your list?

Orange LEGO Classic Spaceman Minifigure Coming In October 2020

Here’s something that will put a smile on Benny’s face. Amazon UK has listed a new LEGO book offering from DK Publishing and it comes with a freebie that LEGO fans of the classic Space genre will be raring to have. The LEGO Minifigure: A Visual History (New Edition) will be released later this year with an exciting new minifig that most of us will love to have – an orange LEGO Classic Spaceman minifigure!

01 orange lego classic space minifig

This new LEGO book chronicles the journey of the iconic LEGO minifigure, with an updated roster of the best minifigures around since 1978. Like most LEGO books released by DK, its quite obvious that the huge selling point of this upcoming book is the exclusive minifig that goes with it. Aside from having a cool reference material to the evolution of the LEGO minifig, this orange variant of the LEGO Classic Spaceman is a must-have for fans of the classic theme. If you already own the LEGO Movie2 Benny’s Space Squad (70841) set, then be sure to keep this DK offering under your radar. It will surely be a welcome gesture if LEGO will eventually consider re-releasing it’s Classic Space theme, similar to what they did with their 2015’s series of Pirates-inspired sets. But for now, other than Benny and his gang from the LEGO Movie 2, the closest that we currently have similar to this will be the LEGO City Space sets from last year.

Amazon UK is already accepting pre-orders as early as now, with the LEGO Minifigure: A Visual History (New Edition) tagged at £30.00. I’ll provide you with updates once this book appears in US stores or at Amazon US. Here’s a quick blurb of this new LEGO book.
